don't cheat yourself out a really good experience just because of fear...sm

Posted By: JoV on 2005-12-06
In Reply to: How many of you do volunteer work? I am considering volunteering..sm - anon

I went to Africa in January to volunteer in a medical clinic for 18 days. Talk about leaving your comfort zone. There were two nights in particular where I really, really, really wished I wasn't there.  But turned out to be a profoundly life changing experience. The word is "feel the fear but do it anyway."

Fear of change is worse than fear of not being able to pay your bills? nm
:)
My experience has been good with CCC. SM
They negotiated a lower interest rate. Do some homework before you choose one. They usually charge $50.
Both are good experience.
I started on two accounts, one editing and one transcription, right after I graduated. The editing position paid 1/2 what the transcription account did. I always made more with transcription and I was able to increase my speed much more with transcription wtih the use of Expanders and templates. I liked the editing, but the pay was just too low.
I did also - experience was good (nm)

I had a good experience with them
I had no trouble with the audio portion, got almost 99% on it. I signed on with one of their companies in 3 days' time, start date June 30. Now my dream of leaving MQ is a reality with a company paying more than MQ, no ASR, 10% ESL! Can't wait!
Pretty good experience here
I was worried about switching, too, since I had read here so many people complaining about line counts being down, but for me I notice a small improvement in my line count on DQS, about 30 lines an hour, but I don't work on DQS regularly, just occasionally, and I think my line count would be a bit higher if I worked on it regularly and got used to using the shortcuts more.  There are a few small things I would tweak on DQS per my preferences, but otherwise I think it's pretty decent and easy to use.
Good luck..hope you have a better experience..
than I did with them
I would have to say that $.08/line is very good pay for one year experience.sm
The company I work for raise the line rate every two years.  I rely a lot on my Expander program.  Good luck!
Depends on how much experience you have. I have 26 years, not good for me. nm
nm
Heck, yeah! Good pay for 1-1/2 years experience.

I agree. It's an impossibility for me even with years of experience AND good dictators. nm

why your men cheat
they cheat because you expect it as "it's in their nature."  You must not require more from them.  I mean it's like a dog (not being funny).  If you expect that they will pee in the house and train them to go out, that is what they will do.  If you don't have any standards as to how you want to be treated and what lines they cannot cross, then you will get the bottom of the barrell and be treated badly.  You need to have some self-value and make it known from the beginning what is expected and follow through.
I can certainly see why YOUR man would cheat

I certainly would if I was married to you.

Get over the bitterness and GROW THE "H" UP ALREADY!!!

I'm not trying to cheat either

I just want to be able to eat 2000 calories a day but only have 900 of those calories actually go in my own body and have my husband take the remaining 1100 calories in his body since he's so skinny.  Is that cheating?

I know men cheat, its in their nature. I'm just saying
They don't commit either, and when we get cheated on or rejected it hurts and its just difficult.  I wish they weren't like that, always wanting to go after something younger, better or sexier, but yes thats the way it goes.  Its awful.  Women get the short end of the stick in just about everything.  I'm not saying there are no good men out there, but for the most part, I just cannot ever trust one or give up my life for one ever again.  Its sad.  Guys can find committment and love easily but we women have to claw, grip and lose our minds to find it and hold on to it.
can you cheat and make sm
the stuff you want to stay put as a "header", and that way it's unaffected by the centering of the rest of the document?

Or will someone see that and have a problem with it?

I mean, just do that until you can figure out something else, or until someone more brilliant than my good self comes along ;-)

I'll give it some more thought.

If I read this right, you only want PART of this document centered vertically on the page, right? Just a decorative letterhead? I mean, to me, like I said, I'd just set that up as a header and not give it a second thought. If I'm misunderstanding what you are saying, let me know.

HTH :-)
I wouldn't help someone cheat on a test. sm
If she can't pass on her own, how will she do the actual work?
You're a jerk and a cheat. and a disgrace to MT field. nm
..
You are too funny with the MEN CHEAT post. I had to call my
He's working out of state (isn't that just handy?). He was NOT amused because, of course, HE CHEATS! I am not 100% certain, but he's a lying, dishonest, deceitful person whom I have no trust in whatsoever. He REALLY didn't like your solution to the problem...hee, hee. I DID! It does hurt, though, no matter what. MEN DO NOT HAVE TO CHEAT--it is a CHOICE.  I don't trust any of them anymore.
the majority cheat..those who don't usually find the value in being an employee.

tsk, tsk, tsk..teaching your children to lie and cheat..nice..NOT

And the CEOs keep finding new ways to cheat and bonuse themselves.
while keeping MTs from making any money at all.  We are the ones who pay for the bonuses for CEOs, lawsuits and bad business decisions.
Considering past billing problems, why cheat anyone out of even 2 cents? nm
;
They dont need to cheat now since they have lowered all the lines pay and will probably push like
crazy now to get everything they can on ASR.
Sick of slow systems that cheat you out of lines!

I am just so sick and tired of going to the trouble of testing and listening to recruiters tell you how wonderful the company is to work for only to learn later that the system is slower than molasses, has a sub-rate spell checker and knocks you off after each report you transcribe.  I haven’t come across a user friendly platform yet.  My current job cheated me out of 63 lines the other week and the new job I just started says in the contract they pay for spaces.  I checked the numbers and used my own line counting software – guess what . . . screwed again.  Are there any small companies left in the world, which allow you type in Word and pay on time?

Do not cheat you chose to retire earlly deal with it
That is part of the problem everyone wants everything.  If you took early retirement, stay retired. Do no try to go around the system or the rules.  If everyone pays their full share it is fair.   But when you try to cheat hopefully it will come back and bite you as we do not need this .  Everyone needs to pay taxes on their income whether it is IC or employee.  If everyone pays their share it is fair. You chose early retirement, deal with it.
Fear Factor is a like being an MT.
zz
Never fear, Sandy, because....
your little "problem" meeting TAT is quickly becoming solved with too much overstaffing, etc. among companies. This appears to be just YOUR problem. I would find it extremely hard to believe that an MT would deliberately try to undermine you by not working her committed work schedule. Goodness, all of this "craziness" because of one innocent question by Julia.
I am a single mom and have this fear every day
But, because I have to pay the bills, I cannot sit around. So I work 2 full-time jobs. I am eying my employee job carefully, b/c if it ever slows to the point where I cannot make rent, I will work 3 jobs and then let the 1 go which is faltering. Unfortuantely, I have been through what is happening to you but I was in a marriage. When I had to go out on my own, I realized how a person has to be secure in a job for all kinds of reasons, not just bills but self-esteem. I cannot tell you what to do nor is it my place to do so, I can only tell you where I have been and where I am now. Even if I had the ability to sit around and wait for work, I would not do it. I would first communicate and ask for full-time work. If no response I'd get a second or third job and do all until the time comes where I can judge which is the most consistent to pay bills. This is even if I did not have much sleep and raising a child alone. I am doing this now, and it is difficult, but I would rather lose sleep with a roof over my head and a good self-esteem, than sit and wait for work and let it eat on my bills and my confidence.
Sorry for the long note. Hope it helps. Good luck to you whatever you decide. PS: Listen to your heart.
I am well aware of that - just angry that parents teach their kids to cheat! nm

Has anyone been following Psycho Fear Factor?
I don't think the Bates Hotel looks all that bad - in fact it looks a lot like MY house! So far I think the worst torture was having that newly divorced couple sleep in the same bed! I guess they signed up for the show B4 they knew divorce wuz pending, LOL.
Wow, let's see, I remember when we could play outside without fear SM
and stayed outside and played from morning until night (we only came home for supper)...

When you could be a blue-collar worker and expect to make a living wage, and keep the same job all your adult life...

When going to the movies for 50 cents and sitting in the balcony was fun...

When you could say something without fear of offending someone and getting sued...

Ah, I remember...
I fear what the future holds too...
Those three beautiful souls growing up thinking this is the normal way to live. Call your family today and start planning to leave this creep. It won't be the easiest thing you've ever done, but it will be the smartest.
Not to discount your fear right now, but didn't her doc

advise her that the risks involved with surgery would include perforation of organs, and other complications, including death. Medicine is unfortunately an inexact science, and doctors are, after all, only human. May not be a clear cut case of malpractice, may "merely" be an unfortunate complication.

I've seen many people rush into a lawsuit, only to have their lives and money consumed by them, to find out they don't understand legal concept of malpractice and even if malpractice, if the insurance company has a better lawyer, you can lose anyway.

For now, I would focus my energy on praying rather than suing...

Saying you have to be "professional" to not fear about loss of a job
means all the people sending in posts about outsourcing, losing their jobs, worried about the possibility of such, are nonprofessional. I think this reaches a lot more MTs than just the "nonprofessionals." I hear their fears and know what it is, have been there before. I appreciate the post on my behalf and hope anger management is on hand for those who apparently cannot handle it. My goodness, just think about the season if nothing else...
I fear you tried the company out of Chicago?
nm
Forgot to mention - kids need fear of someone or something sm
that is my job as a mom, to make them fear authority and always try to do the right thing! I don't care how big they are, and my one son is 6'3" tall and weighs 250 lbs, I will still kick his ass and he knows it!
No, that's next week's Psycho MT Fear Factor.
With FranQ substituting 4 Joe Rogan.
Not old but........Primal Fear! Excellent movie.

Complacency and fear of rocking the boat is a big

Totally not MT related, but where is the new season of Fear Factor on NBC? nm

I don't watch fear factor. They abuse animals. I also have better
stuff to do with my time then watch someone eat pig intestines.
I'm with your son, although my faves are SF Rockstar and SF Sobe No Fear. VROOOM ... lol nm

My biggest fear of doing my own file or someone else I knew doing it would be to hear

the dreaded words "obese female" and "looks older than stated age!"  UGH!!!!

I find they give the best, meticulous pt care by far. Why do you fear?
x
Their control obviously isn't putting fear in those that abuse the information though. nm
nm
Fear of change. Kinda like I am when I am faced with learning a new acct.
dd
I wanted to learn it, but I fear the learning curve would be impossible. sm

since I can't take any time off from the qwerty keyboard.  How did you make the conversion?

No social life. I now have a fear going out in public! Working from home for 8 years now will do t
nm
Experience on top, current experience first. Education second. Leave out ALL fluff.
Recruiters don't need your life story. They need to know if you can do the job. If you want, put your current employer, then state "I have 20 years in the profession doing....." Keep it simple; keep it clean. If you want to go into more detail, do it during the interview. A HUGE red flag is to see that you've worked for 10 different companies, for months at a time. I know that someone who has worked for the same company for 2 years or more is going to have some degree of loyalty and will work through issues rather than cut and run.
Correction - Men and women cheat - men get caught - women don't

I know more women who cheat than the other way around, and the difference is that no one knows about it unless THEY tell them.
