great faxing service

My girlfriend signed up for a new faxing service with Packtel. It's only $3.95 per month for unlimited faxing, I'm getting a fax from her right now on fax machine, and I gotta say that the quality of the print beats to pants off eFax.  If anyone would like to check it out, here's the link:

great service, don't remember it down
I have had AT&T for a few months sine it bought out BellSouth. I had BellSouth for years. I only remember one outage, and that was during aftermath of a hurricane, for about 2-3 days. I really like it, and if you get someone that speaks English, the tech support is knowledgeable and friendly.
transcriptiongear.com has these things, too. Great service. nm

Agree! This company is great! Fast service. Big selection. Willing to help, too. nm

Check out transcriptiongear.com. Large selection, great service. nm

Have had Hughes for 5 years (used to be Direcway) great internet service sm
but truly hate if I have any kind of problem and have to call in. Luckily that is rate to nonexistent.
Faxing
I would use a secure site for sending medical reports such as an FTP site. Faxing is not a secure way of sending and is not HIPPA compliant.
Faxing
I don't know since I have a stand alone fax.  But I have faxed  from my Quick Books and it worked.  I just went to my spread sheet and did the Control P and hit the fax options on the printer selection and it let me go to the Fax Wizard.  I will try it later today with one of my accounts and see if it works.  But you would have to be careful to make sure that only their "selected" part of the spreadsheet gets sent to them just like when you print/fax it to them.  But if you client does not have the Excel program on the computer you are sending it to, then they cannot open it.  I will do more playing around this this later this afternoon as have to go and do pick up and deliveries now.   Patti
faxing $
For all that you would be better off getting a printer w/fax. They are less than $100. Mine is an HP 5610v All In One w/the fax feed at the top, number pad for dialing, etc. Think I might have paid about $70 for it a year or so ago. I think I got it at Walmart.
Faxing
If you are going to do faxing on a regular basis, you should probably purchase a fax machine. That's what I had to finally do. Some time ago, I had to go to a currency exchange to fax something. The charge was $7.00 per page!!
Vonage & Faxing?
I've been wanting to get an internet phone service for a long time now, but am concerned about the faxing capabilities.  I have an account of my own and I use e-fax to send the work back to the physicians.  I've been told that VoIP services do not support e-fax and also that even regular faxing is extremely unreliable with VoIP.  Anyone have any insight into this?  I'd really like to switch, but I have to be able to e-fax!
Internet faxing
Is internet faxing HIPPA compliant?
Faxing via computer

I have faxed documents through the computer at a couple of jobs I've worked in the past; however, I have no idea how this is set up.  I am planning to buy a fax machine, but I was wondering if it would cheaper and/or easier to do by computer.  Plus this would eliminate another piece of equipment on my desk.  Thanks for any advice.

faxing question ...sm

I was using WinFax PRO through the computer for faxing many files rather than the old print and put through a fax machine.  BUT this program seems to be hanging up all the time, not faxing, etc.

Does anyone know of another program like this...where you just click on files and fax through the computer?

THANX FOR ANY HELP

Wendy

Charge for faxing

I am starting to fax reports to various places for my account. Some of these will include multiple pages to the same place and some will be only one page. Can anyone tell me what the going rates are for this service?  Thanks!

online faxing

Does anyone have a recommended site they use for online faxing?

faxing without a fax machine

Several jobs I worked in the past allowed the capability to send a fax through the computer without using a fax machine.  However, I have no idea that program was set up but would really like something similar at home.  I can't figure out where to start.  Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks.

Faxing and HIPAA concerns
I need to know the regulations imposed by HIPAA for MTSOs faxing medical reports to referring doctors.  Thanks.
HIPAA faxing guidelines
Fax only when necessary, always verify fax number and ALWAYS use cover sheet. Do not fax hypersensitive PHI.
Charge for faxing reports (sm)
I did a search and can't seem to find this topic.  An office that I transcribe for has a new type of report that they would like faxed to the referring physician.  I have a fax and am willing to do it, but I'm not sure what to charge.  Would you charge by the page or by the report (mostly 1 page but sometimes 2 plus cover page)?  Thanks much for your input.  KM
We have decided to add this to our current service not have a new service. It will be easier to sm

keep track of and will just be a different department.

It looks like we will work out details over the next 6 months, talking with community college program directors as well as a few of the distance-learning course leaders to work on the recruiting end.

We will train current staff to mentor if they would like to do so and want to work in the office.

We are still working on production requirements, goals to set, pay, benefits and other fine details but we have 6 months to get it all in place with three months to pull it together after that with a tentative start date of 09/01/06.  We need to build the building as well, although that is already at the blueprint stage in a spot next to our current office.

We did not want to cause flames and bashing by listing the company name as there are always so many negative people on this site, but we are national with over 200 transcriptionists, located outside of Chicago (40 miles west) and have the best team of transcriptionists around!

We will have an "official" announcement after the first of the new year.

Thank you for all of your feedback and suggestions!

legal issues w/faxing reports

i have always refusing the faxing of reports to offices..  i believe this is illegal if the MD signature is not on the paper.  if you are a "contractor" for this office, you are not covered in way, shape or form legally under any insurance policy but your own.  I would refuse the faxing of reports.

However, it's illegal in my state to do unsolicited broadcast faxing.
I had intended on doing this years ago, but I was told we can't.
Always! When emailing my resume, my email acts as my cover letter and when faxing, I always have a
Your cover letter says much more about you than your resume ever can.  Your resume lists your education, your jobs, and highlights your skills.  In your cover letter, you have an opportunity to sum up how many years total experience you have and get specific about certain things you've accomplished at certain jobs.
My telephone service is VOIP, but it s through my cable service, along with my cable internet. .
We have had VOIP for about a year now and I love it. I really can't tell a difference in traditional service, except the price. One of the best calls of my life was to Bellsouth to cancel our service!
I am not asking for a service, I AM the service looking for recorders

Saw him on CMT show with John Fogarty. Great, great singer with a neat personality and drop dead
gorgeous without seeming to know it.
Great post. I swear by both Advantage and Frontline Plus-- both work great! - sm
I don't know about "natural" approaches for the house. I have always used flea bombs in the past before the miracle of Advantage and Frontline changed my life. Have not had a flea problem at all since I began using those products about 10 years ago, dose all the dogs religiously once a month with the Frontline Plus except in Dec.-Feb. to save a few bucks and because the ground is generally frozen by then and no fleas are scurring about. -- Hope you get flea free soon.
Thanks to all. Got some great feedback and ecouragement. This board is great.
My rant passed, ate a late lunch, now back to the trenches.
GREAT GREAT SHOW! I still think Ellen Pompeo
should have gotten the Emmy/Golden Globe whatever it was for the show. I like Sandra Ho, her character just needs more depth... Next week looks AWESOME!! Maybe there is still a chance for McDreamy!! First season DVD coming out with deleted scenes! Can't wait to get it & watch it!!
It is a GREAT company and great deal! I've had
Vonage about 6 months now and I love it. The only mistake I made was trying to keep my original phone # - I wouldn't recommend that. You have a temp # for a while, and the other provider can fight for the old #, etc. Go to vonage. com. They have new features all the time! There is even a new soft phone that is a phone on your screen. You don't need a real phone when working - just headset. It has 800 #s you can have very inexpensively - great voice mail. You get emails when you have new messages, etc. I only wish I had used them a year ago! Nothing but good things to say, and I complain about everything!
Sounds like he will do great then. Again, best wishes for great success!

That's great Patti. Thanks. Have a great time at the beach.

You should feel great as a transcriptionist if they think your work is that great!!!
It is not your fault they approached you. I think it would be a different storey if you were the one searching for the job to take away from a company. They obviously want to get rid of the company and if you didn't take the job they would probably ask someone else. You should enjoy the better position and not feel guilty!!
Great post -great job of wording your answer! (sm)
Original poster - I completely agree with this answer, especially the part about finding yourself and using all that you have learned intellectually and connecting that to something that you will also enjoy with your heart!! You have so many wonderful options for your future - much more than many of us.
IT - great program, great support system. nm

Thanks for all the great advice! You guys are great!

It is a service job and they should
help parents with small children and also the elderly. I think a normal healthy person with "more than a bag or 2" should not have them help them out to the car. It causes the cashier to have to bag, therefore delaying the progression of the line.
PS on Cox service
Did anyone ever receive any surprise charges from Cox, as this is what I plan to use to offer online service to others, i.e., long distance, etc.?
Do you have your own service? I ask because
that it is possible, especially since she has some educational background in the medical field. I certainly would not waste money on an MT course in this day and age (at least not if I am gauging the career opportunities available to MTs by what is said on this board).

I am NOT saying that just anyone can sit down and type, and being an MT is as easy as that. We all know that it is not. However, I was able to break into the field almost seven years ago by having a mentor from a local transcription company (I am in GA too, btw). If you are planning to provide her with work and review her work, provide feedback, etc., then there is no reason why she cannot do it, unless she is just not cut out for it, which you would both know pretty quickly. If she is cut out for it, then it sounds like it could be a great opportunity for both of you, if you are wanting to grow your business. If you are not going to do this for her, she will likely have a really hard time finding a job, unless someone else is willing to do so, and if you are working for someone other than yourself, then you likely do not receive a high enough rate to be able to pay her a decent wage and still earn something for editing/mentoring. (Certainly not saying that you don't -- I obviously have no idea what you make, but not many people who are transcribing for others make enough to share that way :).)
My service is actually going to be (sm)

Comcast here in the next couple weeks.  Verizon is offering a 30-day free trial.  In the meantime I will keep my cable internet just in case I'm not happy with Verizon.  My cable internet service has been very frustrating for me, as far as not being available at least once a week for a couple of hours, always during my normal working hours.  So, I guess it's worth a try.

ASP Service
Finally :-)I am negotiating with one doctor to be my direct client. For that I need some ASP service where he can dial in as toll free and I can get dictations thru FTP. Anyone please recommend some best ASP with minimum per line cost & reliable. Thx!
do you still do this service?
If so, are you happy without the middle man?  Right now I don't have extra money to fall back on so maybe I should work PT with my present company and try do 1 account for now until I feel comfortable doing my own.
So what service do
you use for your car?
Could you tell me what the name of the service is?
You know, if it's "AT&T Small Business Plan" or something. I just want to ask for the right thing. About how much do you pay total for it? Thanks so much for the help!
Which service you are using?
I am interested, if it's .07/min.
Every service does it different.
I have found what is correct with one account, is wrong with another. Also, I try to give them what they want. They hired me for my help with their work and they are the boss. If I feel I am making good money, they can have it the way they want. If they want to be that picky, go ahead, as long as it is worth the money for me.
Have been looking into another service as well (sm)
I have Comcast and it is on and off sometimes, depends on if they are working on it. I am dreading the winter weather, because its out more than its on it seems. I looked into FiOS with Verizon, it is not available here yet, but their high speed is and they want a 2 year contract. Won't go that route to lock myself into something I may not be happy with, if u find something, let me know, but Comcast isn't the answer in Bucks County area
I don't know if it's possible with a service. nm

How's that for service?

A strange thing happened today.  My husband, who is a hospital-employed MT who works at home, got a phone call from a doc at the hospital.  It seems the dictation system was down, but he needed to dictate.  He proceeded to dictate over the telephone while hubby transcribed.  He dictated both an H&P and an OP note.

It was strange, but kinda cool.

LD Service
You may want to try magicJack (visit www.magicjack.com) - the service is $20 per year for unlimited long distance.  Phone plugs into your PC via USB port.
For the fax service on your
computer, you have to pay a monthly fee which can add up. If you do a lot of faxing, it may pay off. If you do not fax often, just buy a fax machine. Bought one for $39 recently, saved 70% at new egg.
