i remember having to roll pennies

to buy gas for the car, and it wasn't 30 dollars. Gas was about 1.50 at that time, but doesn't matter how much it is if you don't have the money!  Another time, I had a 25 cent coupon good towards some cleanser...the store clerk forgot to take it off my grocery order, stating that "it's only a quarter!"  I only replied, "I hope you never have to find out just how much a quarter is."  Unfortunately, I found out a few years later that, yes, she found how much a quarter meant.

How do you guys pinch your pennies
Anything, how to save on toiletries, can you mix and match what you use for your hair as well as dish soap, split the toilet paper into two separate sheets?  I absolutely hate using coupons because I end up buying what I don't need just because I have a coupon so those are out.  Any under cover stores to find cheap scented candles?  Cheap produce?  I think if I could cut back it would save me a lot of stress on where my money is going, it just leaves my pocket so easily these days. A way to get all the food groups in without breaking the bank because thats where most of my money disappears, toiletries and groceries.  Advice needed!
Received one also -- saving my pennies

Got my yesterday in the mail.  Thought that they changed their name.  And I thought it was personally addressed to me.  Don't know how they got my name and my business name as I do not belong to the organization.   Anyway gotta get my reservation in by December 20th or so.

How does one go about getting a raise? IC working for pennies needs more $$$

I have been working with my company as an IC for over a year, want to make more $$$$. Make 3 cpl editing and 8 cpl typed.  The first time I asked for a raise I was making 7 cpl and owner said they could give me a penny more for the typed lines but no more for editing, since that would leave the editors with only a penny per line?  I like the flexibility and freedom of working with them and thought it was a trade off but feel unappreciated and underpaid...

thanks for any replies...

Why do they expect perfection for pennies?...
When you work on production to make a decent check you have to push it, and you have all these horrible accents, why, then, do they expect miracles?  Maybe if I had an hourly salary.
physicians pinching pennies

but I live in an extremely rural area were the pay is generally lower across the board for any type of job.  I also drove an hour each work as well, to the next town over. Around years ago the transcriptionists in my hometown were making 7.50/hour.  So I am pretty proud of my 9 cpl job.
Even if they pass, how can they do the work? They will make pennies an hour and
zzzzzz
They wish LOL.. I love to pay pennies to cheap to play anything else. I just figure they want us to

Oh good grief!  What's the big deal?  Act like the professional you are and just transcribe the dang thing; then go on to the next dictation!  Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.  I transcribe for Hollywood celebrities all the time; if I had to stop and tell my supervisor that "I know this person," I'd never get anything done or make any money!

I am being nice.  My advice:  Do research - not just this time but all the times - and it will pay off tenfold.  Now if that ain't nice, I don't know what is, unless you're implying the info should be laid out on a silver platter garnished with parsley, strawberries, powdered sugar, etc.  Now THAT's not nice.

And did anyone ask you to plan the meals in their homes?  No, they didn't!!

I try to tell myself to let it roll off
She just likes to be in the spotlight and wants to make sure no one else gets in, oh well. I shouldn't take it so hard.  It is kind of petty really.  It just makes me so angry that I want to place my foot where it doesn't shine.  Friday as I was leaving to go home super MT and another Obnoxious MT were talking. All I heard was "she this.. and she that and as I got closer obnoxious MT said "bye" and not a friendly bye, have a nice weekend it was more like "get the (bad word) out of here" type bye.  Gee, wonder why she flunked out of nursing school.  I got paranoid thinking they were plotting something to make me look foolish or insignificant in front of the supe, like they did earlier but then again the supe knows how long I have been there, she knows the work I do so why worry....but I do.
Agreed. Roll with the changes in the
be phased out.  Those who refused to switch out of WP5.1 and learn Word or some other windows-based program now have a much more limited set of work options.  The same thing will happen with ASR.  You can learn to work with it and learn to be part of it or eventually be obsolete and out of a job.
I like the Roll-Up Keyboard
I bet it's throwable too!!
So you'd just "leave it alone?" BIG EYE ROLL!

No wonder docs are farming it out overseas!!

sway and roll

If a boat goes by with a pretty big wake -- which they are not supposed to do, you will feel it go up and down.  No one has gotten seasick while visiting.  When the wind comes up  it does remind you of being at the ocean.   We have a fire boat here on the island and when there has been an emergency they have jetted by in the middle of the night and that does wake me up.  But since we are tied off on three sides now to concrete pilings, we don't move like a boat at all, if anything it kinds of puts you to sleep.   The worse time for a rock and rolling though is when you are sitting on the toilet, that is when you notice it the most.  But after 11 years, I barely notice it at all.   Thanks again to all of you,  it may be Saturday but I don't have a lawn to mow at least.   I tease my newphews about coming down to ride the riding lawnmower to mow my lawn, instead I have a paddle boat that we paddle around the moorage in.

just had another funny on - i'm on a roll! sm

typing neurobehavioral tests for my neurologist doc. Part of it is a question regarding knowing the name of the current president.  The patient's answer just slayed me.....

Question: Do you know the name of the current President?

Answer:  "Bambo"

and use primarily are Stedmans Equipment Words, The Surgical Word Book, and HPI's General Surgery/GI Words and Phrases.  I also have the Stedman specialty books, but the only one I really tend to use of those is the orthopedic one, for some reason.  I also use Google a lot and, again, primarily for orthopedics.  That seems to be the specialty that changes a lot....well, that and cardiology but I don't do much cardiology right now.  HTH
Calm down now. I'm just saying the roll works out much more economically for my needs...
I double checked and it's $52 including shipping for 5016 labels (8-1/2 x 1). That's equal to 456 sheets (8-1/2 x 11) or $0.1140 per sheet. Two of your boxes (250 x 2 = 500 sheets) x $28.70 per box is $57.40. That's $0.1148 per sheet plus your time cutting each of those little notes apart. I just print off the sheet and the office separates each note without the chance of losing a little 1" paragraph somewhere before it got to the med rec dept. I have absolutely no problem with curl, as the roll core is fairly large and I use a paper towel dispenser for quick dispensing. Six of one, half dozen of another. The gal from Med Arts Press is the one I was really speaking about. Their prices are nasty. Only if you want custom colors and then I'd go to Compulabel before MAP. And BTW I wasn't trying to step on toes, just trying to help save somebody a buck. Your welcome.
I'm curious. Does it kind of sway/roll with the
Or does the ballast/weight of it keep it very steady?  I've never been on a barge or anything quite like that, so I'm just trying to imagine.  Seems it would be so comforting (rock-a-bye, baby...) if it does move a bit.  Doesn't make any of your guests a little seasick, does it?

OKAY, BUT REMEMBER
Remember, maybe your current employer would pay you a penny more a line (MAYBE), but what about the next employer. Things in this business change quickly, and just because your current employer may up your pay, the next one might not care.

How about those HUGE transcription machines bigger than a desk>>>>I gravitated to MT from KEYPUNCH school...REMEMBER THOSE KEYPUNCH MACHINES!!!!!
I remember
I learned to type on a manual typewriter.  I actually won a county typing contest on one of those, when some of the contestants had brought their electric portables with them.  I won because I relaxed, thinking I did not have a chance on a manual, and had only two errors.  They counted off words for each error.  I got my A.S. in HIM, only then it was Medical Records Technology.   My first job was in a small physician's office, where I had an IBM Selectric.  Dictation was on this little thing with belts.  After that was a machine with small little discs that looked like film, that never came out of the machine, just stacked up like a juke box.  After that came tapes.  My references were a big Dorland's, a Taber's and a PDR.  Of course, like another poster said, I had the chart.  Even with all the bad things about the business, I don't think I would want to go back.
ek, remember ET...

Don't remember where I was

I probably found out about it at night, when the newspaper arrived. It didn't phase me at all.

In terms of my age at the time ... 27.

How do you ever remember them all?
That's my problem
Remember When? SM
I posted last evening and spent time this morning just chuckling over what people have written. I still have the red book, "A Syllabus for The Surgeon's Secretary." It is all beat up and the spine is broken but I will not part with it. Let me quote, "Only when a satisfactory degree of proficiency has been achieved should a student be given actual work assignments. She thus learns by POSITIVE TUTELAGE as contrasted with the outmoded method of trial and error." The 2nd edition, January 1965 is the date of publication. We had no electronic dictionary or medical speller. Everything we wrote had to be correct or it was literally "thrown back at us" to retype. We had to use our "Dorlands" or "Tabers" and one PDR for the use of the whole office. Believe me, these "one of a kind" books were tattered and torn but we used them or else. We "had" to get it right, no excuses. What a wonderful way to start the New Year. Somehow it seems all worth it now, sore back and tired fingers and all. Happy New Year, Everyone. Mary Mc
I remember when...

As a child;

Movies were 50 cents. We went at least every weekend...

We got cable TV...wow, more than 3 or 4 channels!

Our first VCR had a remote...with a cord running across the floor!

I'm old enough to remember standing at the meat counter with my mom watching the butcher weigh out the meat and wrap it and if she wanted a special cut he would step back to a table with the meat saw and cut it.

I also remember long trips on Route 66 before the interstates- getting car sick because I was sitting with my knees on the seat looking out the back window watching the stripes and telephone poles go by- my cousins had a Rambler station wagon and that was really cool cause they got to sprawl out in the back it had a luggage rack on top - oh, boy am I really telling my age
Boy am I old. I remember......
when I was a child, and there was no TV, we actually had one of those big floor model radios, and we actually sat around it and listened to it.  Wow.  When I was a teenager, gas was about 18 cents a gallon, and we used to go out on a Friday night and get a dollar's worth.  I also remember our first color TV.  Everything looked bright pink, bright blue, and bright green.  Probably my most significant memory as a teenager was being on my senior class trip in Washington, D.C. when Kennedy was killed.  We saw the White House flag being lowered.  Car radios were on all over town, people gathered around cars crying.  That was back in the time when everyone was kind of "innocent" - things like that just didn't happen.  Wow, what a memory.
