Sometimes they send me a list of patients "missing" that I sent to them a week or even two weeks prior! A couple of weeks ago I got a list from them that had patients names and either "dictated" or "not dictated" written out beside it. I verified all had been dictated that they had listed as dictated (which I'd already sent them but they somehow never received or lost or whatever), except for two patients they said were dictated. I checked and rechecked and I found no dictation for those two patients at all for the dates of service they were giving. What do they think? I just decided not to type those two patients? That I decided I'd skip those that day???? In those situations I really don't have an explanation. Maybe the doctor did dictate it but somehow it didn't get to me? They use Idigital dictation phone-in system. Or maybe the doctor thought he dictated (maybe he started to dictate, his cell phone rang or his beeper went off, and he got sidetracked and didn't finish?) I don't know, but I do know that I transcribe every dictation I receive. I have no control over whether they know they dictated it but I didn't receive it. Idigital has a cross-reference website to that I can go to to see how many dictations I got versus how many were actually dictated, which I check faithfully, but that still doesn't make their system infallible, does it? One could fall through the cracks and I'd never know it.
