If Obama wins, say bye-bye, and that's just the tip of this iceberg.

Remember what happened in New Orleans?  It was outrageous!

hope y'all don't miss it...still off by one extra day....

No, he's just giving them HOPE. Something that

heck I wouldn't mind giving illegals benefits if I could
and i'm nervous about my 3 month waiting period at my new job for health insurance!
I hope you don't mind if I cyber

My dad was in WWII, as well, and although the injuries he suffered weren't as severe as your dad's, he responded exactly the same way.  All the purple hearts in the world aren't worth it.  I think they called it "shell shock" or "battle fatigue," whereas in the Vietnam area veterans, they call it "PTSD."  To me, it seems as if it's all the same, just different names, for the demolition of someone's personhood, leaving little more than a badly bruised shell of what used to be.  My dad never got over it, and I'm sure his alcoholism hastened his death at age 65.

Very few of the Vietnam veterans who are my friends have ever gotten over it.  It's something they live with daily, often waking them in the middle of the night with flashbacks leaving them in total horror.  I know of one case personally where a friend of mine who was a Nam vet was visiting with me for a few days.  I lived across the street from train tracks.

I happened to wake up in the middle of the night and sensed something was wrong, went into the room where he was sleeping and saw him huddled in a corner, terrified, because a train went by, woke him up, and his first reaction was that he was back in Vietnam and under fire.

What kind of legacy is going to befall the soldiers who are in Iraq, who, in addition to the regular war activities that cause all the above, ALSO have to deal with terror attacks every single day they are there?

I agree with everything you said and I'm very appreciative of your post.

A necessary war to protect the United States is one thing.  This indeed is quite something else.

I hope you don't mind my intrusion here.

I'm not much of a gardener (could probably kill weeds), but I've been seeing this hanging tomato commercials on TV and they look sort of cool.  Is this what you're talking about, or do you make your own (which seems like it might be kind of easy to do)?

I love me some garden fresh sweet tomatoes in the summer, especially with corn on the cob.  YUMMY!!

Palin, the candidate that just keeps giving and giving...
x
I would come see y'all....

...but I got me a first cousin lives down there and he can run fast enough to catch me.

Seriously though, elsewhere in Ohio foods to be eaten off premises are not taxable, but the soda in the same carryout order is because it is not considered food.  I actually do have a friend who could not buy tomato juice (an ingredient in the soup she was going to make)  with food stamps. And forget about buying anything carbonated.  According to the USDA when it comes to food stamps, hot food, even take-out, is not eligible, unless by the special exemption that is mentioned in that text in my previous post (from USDA site.)   According to that site, seeds for gardening to produce food are even eligible.

But this was on another site:

Restricting food stamp participants’ purchases of foods and beverages high in calories, fats, and/or sugars has been proposed as a strategy to combat obesity. In 2004, the State of Minnesota unsuccessfully requested permission from USDA to prohibit the purchase of candy and soft drinks with food stamp benefits. The proposed modification was clearly intended to promote diet quality by limiting purchase of “empty calorie” foods.

So it seems that in some places, food stamps actually ARE considered sort of a birthday present that you can spend any way you wish.  Maybe y'all should move up here where the mooches are less offensive?

Oh, and sorry about being snappish with you, but I was also annoyed by the Palin remarks.

If y'all can lay all of 9/11
at Bush's feet after 8 months, Obama can wear this one after 2.
If y'all can lay all of 9/11

"yeah, right" to both of y'all
Nice try.
I missed y'all too s/m
Been to Texas to visit the grandkids.  What a time we had!!!!   I'm always interested in politics as well as history.  During our 10 hour trip (both ways) I read "With Fire and Sword" which was about the Civil War in Arkansas, reconstruction and the politics that went with it.  I was surprised to learn that there is really nothing new, corruption and party fighting go back forever.  A good read for anyone interested in historical facts.
Who said anything about Obama? Is that all y'all
nm
Y'all are just jealous he's so popular

and you all can't get a liberal talk show to take.  The Air America crowd can't keep themselves from stealing from their network long enough to try to get a quality show off the ground.

If Rush is so wrong then won't you dispute what he says instead of personally attacking him?

pity party -- y'all.

Thought y'all would enjoy this.

Did you forget y'all were freed? Now act like it!

If y'all have a lot of time to read a 450 page report,

check this out. It has some interesting info: Part 1 is a synopsis and most interesting is pages 8,9,10, and 11. I got as far as Pt. 3 and there is a table of contents on the first few pages to explain everything that is in that part of the report.

"Vol. 1, Comprehensive Report of the Special Advisor to the DCI on Iraq's WMD."

we need our guns
x
guns
So you think our guns should be taken away? You think that just because you take the guns of legal, law abiding citizens that the crooks and criminals won't still have them? So when someone breaks into my house out here in the country where the nearest police station is 15 minutes away AT LEAST, I should just call the cops and pray they get here in time before the crook kills me or does worse?

We don't love, love, love our guns, but this day in age, they are a necessity for some of us. Not to mention the farmers that need to protect their livestock and cattle. Our neighbor raises goats and last year a pack of stray dogs attacked his goats and killed 8 of them. If he hadn't shot the dogs they would have killed all 35 of them. (He tried to get animal control to catch these dogs multiple times but they didn't do anything.)

And in this little Georgia town, I have heard plenty of talk about what will happen if O doesn't get elected. And none of it is productive or safe.

Not all change is good.
Guns
The guns rhetoric didn't just start this year, it's been going on as far back as I can remember and that's quite awhile.  The economy is, or should be, the focus of attention.  If that doesn't happen soon, you aren't going to have to worry about your guns.  You won't have money to buy them and more than likely you'll be happy to trade them for FOOD.
I have guns and would use them...sm
if the situation presented itself in order to protect my family and my home. I pray it never comes to that, though.
Who said anything about waving guns around? sm
I was talking about being prepared.
Just how many more smoking guns
Good grief!

take my guns AND take my money???
i was posed to start deducting from my check and putting into IRA again, and this gives me pause. big pause.  geez crime-iny.
she's showing off the guns...
which do look amazing, probably larger than his!
nope, y'all are sore democrat winners. Obamas are proven bigots and
they'll show their true colors again soon, not to worry.
What I meant to say was that's why it's no use waving guns around.
This is no Hollywood movie where the bad guys wear easily identifiable Nazi uniforms or are dressed like ridiculous stereotypes of native americans.  And this is precisely what our military is finding out in Iraq.
He THINKS he's gonna take guns away..
the NRA is one of, if not the most, powerful lobbying organizations in the nation. Don't think many would stand for that.
Guns are not all the "pubs" are worried about....
but it is a legitimate concern. It is a guaranteed constitutional right. Why would you defend other constitutional rights and be so willing to give that one up?

Personally I think all the give me all the handouts you want to at the expense of others posts are getting pretty darned old.
I keep my guns and freedom, you keep the change! nm
xxx
I grew up with guns in the house.

My father had gun racks and he always kept one rifle loaded in case someone tried to break into the house.  All three of us kids knew it and we also knew not to touch it.  My dad taught us how to shoot, the safe way to use guns, and what NOT to do with a gun.  I think the problem with a lot of gun related accidents is that parents hide the guns and don't teach their kids the dangers and how to properly handle guns.

If you take guns away from the law-abiding citizens....it won't stop the criminals from getting them and then we will have nothing to protect ourselves with.  That is common sense really.  It will just create an even bigger black market for guns and only the unlawful citizens will buy them illegally like that which will leave the lawful citizens unprotected from criminals.

guns, fear, what a post, blah

Nah, I dont think terrorists will come my way but, however, when I move back to NY next year (cant wait), if a terrorist decides to blow up my beloved subway system or Long Island railroad, I dont think a gun would mean much.  I do suggest Bush check out our borders cause right now Im living in CA, two hours from the Mexican border and it is quite easy to get across, without a problem at all and he should also check out the trucking industry cause there has been a question that possibly they can blow up trucks but, however, you cant live your life in fear.  Im not afraid..Im living my life as I have.  Im not afraid to die..With introspection, however, I am a bit fearful of suffering, so if it ever happened, I would hope I would die, not suffer, ya know?

Guns and nuns and moose on buns - LOL!

crack, meth, gangs, guns
Yea, wanting to be an architect is so Nazi and brain washing compared to the crypts and the bloods, welfare and prisons. Do you know what percentage of black men are in prison? What percentage get shot before they are 40? Give me a break. Needing to prepare for the end is just pure racist and you know it.
If John McCain had stuck to his guns and been...sm
able to run as himself instead of being remolded by the right wing of his party, he probably would have sailed over the finish line. He killed any chance of winning the election when he gave control away.
Lawyers, guns, and money?! no message
?
People who carry guns are AFFORDED that right under
we are supposed to be a free country and live our own lives.... so that means govt control should never be in play. The problem is for those who don't have a lick of insurance, hardly ever worked, nothing, have always found a way to buy cigarettes ALL their lives and the taxpayers end up paying for them in their last miserable days with cancer, surgery, oxygen, hospitalized, home health, etc. I realize it's a tough thing all the way around....

but, if the govt wants to do something why not tell ANYONE taking welfare payments that if they spend taxpayer money on cigarettes OR booze for that matter, their resultant healthcare will not be on the taxpayers' backs. Wonder how that would go over!
PIx didn't come through - pictures were all of guys waving large guns around...
Guns, guns, guns and threats, threats, threats.
It is weird to post this on a board "im black and i have guns and ammo" wth?
That's just plain odd to post on an MT board. Looking for trouble.

Good for Joe! I hope so. And I hope he sues...
the governor of the state of Ohio from now to next week. He should. They BIG time violated his civil rights. If this situation was reversed and he was a Dem who had asked McCain a question and a state had had him investigated, the ACLU would be all over this like ugly on an ape. Liberals only care about other liberals...they could care LESS what happens to conservatives. But yeah, they are all about civil liberties. Geez. Pull the other leg awhile.
what are you giving up?
What are some things that you and/or your family are giving up due to the high price of gas and now the rise in food prices?  My family - just me and my husband now - buy 2 large packs of water at Sam's every 2 weeks and drink this, sometimes getting some crystal light or something to put in it.  We eat a meal once a week and that's it.  Needless to say - we are both losing weight.  But to fill up his truck - that's $100 a week - even though he only works 3 days a week now - and I work at home - so I only go out twice a month - to a dr. appointment and then the second time to get the water.
I'm giving up
It is so hard to have a positive outlook on society anymore. I think I should have been born about 100 years ago. This country has no more morals, all people care about is political correctness and not stepping on anyone's toes. The God of this nation has been pushed out, and people want to know why kids are shooting each other. We have become so pompous we think we can take care of ourselves. I want to live in a time when women respected their bodies and didn't just give it up to anyone. Where rapist were few and far between because they would be hanged if caught. They couldn't wiggle their way out of the judicial system on a technicality. Where we didn't need welfare because neighbor helped neighbor and everyone worked hard and worked together. Where there wasn't an obesity problem because kids played outside from after school until "the street lamp came on". Where people knew God and had a relationship with him. Where "love thy neighbor" was not just a commandment, but an action.

At 22 years old, I wonder if there will be an USA when I'm 40? Is it possible for our nation to survive at the rapid rate of decline we are experiencing for 18 more years? I used to pray to Jesus to wait to come, knowing it was selfish, because I knew so many people who didn't know his love and were not saved, including my own parents, and it killed me to think that we may be separated eternally because of that. Now I just can't help but to pray that He comes soon. All these movies about a post apocalyptic United States don't seem so far fetched now, minus all the zombies that is. We have to wake up. We need to fall to our knees and beg God for forgiveness and beg him to come back to our nation. If you don't believe in Him or want to scoff at me for saying this, I am so sorry. I am so sorry that you do not know the love of Christ. I just hope you get to know Him before it's to late.

God help us.
Not particularly.....just giving
the board a good lookover before I go lie down.
Too many with no b*lls giving in to a few who believe

For all those that think O is giving you a tax cut.....what

//

You are giving her credit for something
she will NEVER do.   She will never unite the party.  She will only go on and on and on until it is impossible for a democrat to win this year, making McCain the president.  All she wants is to be president, and if Obama gets in there, she will have to wait until 2016 when she'll be going on age 68.  She doesn't care about the country or the democratic party.  All she cares about is power, not about anything but HER and Bill.  Sad, but the truth.
Um, excuse me, since when did giving

intelligent, well thought-out replies and giving one's opinion constitute bullying?

Gimme a break.  Sam has every right to be here and she brings a lot to this board.  Maybe if those who bash follow her lead in effective posting, the atmosphere here would be shall I say more of a good debate than a circus?

Get used to it. She's the story that just keeps on giving
there will be plenty more where that comes from.
Why are you being so mean to everyone giving the O in Obama a bad name!
nm
I am giving him a chance and I
know that this isn't a quick fix.  I'm realistic enough to know Obama cannot wave a magic wand and make this all go away.  I'm just saying that for a man who hasnt' been pres for a whole week......he has made a lot of promises already with 2 already broken.  I'm not trying to get a lynching mob together.  I just want to stay informed of what my president and the government is doing because I refuse to just assume they are making the right decisions.  Holy crap people.....seriously!  Xanax....try some.
You mean too many with brains giving in.
There is a big difference between intelligence and lack of cahones.
