People who carry guns are AFFORDED that right under

Posted By: our constitution, not cigarettes BUT sm on 2009-06-23
In Reply to: My grandfather rolled his own - cigarettes and lived to be 93.

we are supposed to be a free country and live our own lives.... so that means govt control should never be in play. The problem is for those who don't have a lick of insurance, hardly ever worked, nothing, have always found a way to buy cigarettes ALL their lives and the taxpayers end up paying for them in their last miserable days with cancer, surgery, oxygen, hospitalized, home health, etc. I realize it's a tough thing all the way around....

but, if the govt wants to do something why not tell ANYONE taking welfare payments that if they spend taxpayer money on cigarettes OR booze for that matter, their resultant healthcare will not be on the taxpayers' backs. Wonder how that would go over!

They have every right afforded everyone else.....
The citizens of the state stood up and said marriage is between a man and a woman. Prop 8 came about because gays were being unlawfully allowed to marry. The decision of whether or not gays should be allowed to marry should always be made at state level and left there. This is not a federal issue. If a state's majority votes yes, then those folks are free to go to that state and marry.

I don't fall for all that gay rights garbage. They have every right I do; it's all about pushing the envelope as far as they can, which is running over everyone else's rights. Believe it or not, those folks who say NO have rights too and they voted NO.
Again, there will still be plenty who will carry her. sm
She isn't going to change and she shouldn't.  She is no more outrageous than Molly Ivins and some of the far left pundits.  She will always have a following.
First time I have been here in days, Demo. Nothing has changed. Carry on. nm

Most women secretly want control of whether or not to carry a pregnancy without govt interference.

we need our guns
x
guns
So you think our guns should be taken away? You think that just because you take the guns of legal, law abiding citizens that the crooks and criminals won't still have them? So when someone breaks into my house out here in the country where the nearest police station is 15 minutes away AT LEAST, I should just call the cops and pray they get here in time before the crook kills me or does worse?

We don't love, love, love our guns, but this day in age, they are a necessity for some of us. Not to mention the farmers that need to protect their livestock and cattle. Our neighbor raises goats and last year a pack of stray dogs attacked his goats and killed 8 of them. If he hadn't shot the dogs they would have killed all 35 of them. (He tried to get animal control to catch these dogs multiple times but they didn't do anything.)

And in this little Georgia town, I have heard plenty of talk about what will happen if O doesn't get elected. And none of it is productive or safe.

Not all change is good.
Guns
The guns rhetoric didn't just start this year, it's been going on as far back as I can remember and that's quite awhile.  The economy is, or should be, the focus of attention.  If that doesn't happen soon, you aren't going to have to worry about your guns.  You won't have money to buy them and more than likely you'll be happy to trade them for FOOD.
I have guns and would use them...sm
if the situation presented itself in order to protect my family and my home. I pray it never comes to that, though.
Who said anything about waving guns around? sm
I was talking about being prepared.
Just how many more smoking guns
Good grief!

take my guns AND take my money???
i was posed to start deducting from my check and putting into IRA again, and this gives me pause. big pause.  geez crime-iny.
she's showing off the guns...
which do look amazing, probably larger than his!
What I meant to say was that's why it's no use waving guns around.
This is no Hollywood movie where the bad guys wear easily identifiable Nazi uniforms or are dressed like ridiculous stereotypes of native americans.  And this is precisely what our military is finding out in Iraq.
He THINKS he's gonna take guns away..
the NRA is one of, if not the most, powerful lobbying organizations in the nation. Don't think many would stand for that.
Guns are not all the "pubs" are worried about....
but it is a legitimate concern. It is a guaranteed constitutional right. Why would you defend other constitutional rights and be so willing to give that one up?

Personally I think all the give me all the handouts you want to at the expense of others posts are getting pretty darned old.
I keep my guns and freedom, you keep the change! nm

I grew up with guns in the house.

My father had gun racks and he always kept one rifle loaded in case someone tried to break into the house.  All three of us kids knew it and we also knew not to touch it.  My dad taught us how to shoot, the safe way to use guns, and what NOT to do with a gun.  I think the problem with a lot of gun related accidents is that parents hide the guns and don't teach their kids the dangers and how to properly handle guns.

If you take guns away from the law-abiding citizens....it won't stop the criminals from getting them and then we will have nothing to protect ourselves with.  That is common sense really.  It will just create an even bigger black market for guns and only the unlawful citizens will buy them illegally like that which will leave the lawful citizens unprotected from criminals.

guns, fear, what a post, blah

Nah, I dont think terrorists will come my way but, however, when I move back to NY next year (cant wait), if a terrorist decides to blow up my beloved subway system or Long Island railroad, I dont think a gun would mean much.  I do suggest Bush check out our borders cause right now Im living in CA, two hours from the Mexican border and it is quite easy to get across, without a problem at all and he should also check out the trucking industry cause there has been a question that possibly they can blow up trucks but, however, you cant live your life in fear.  Im not afraid..Im living my life as I have.  Im not afraid to die..With introspection, however, I am a bit fearful of suffering, so if it ever happened, I would hope I would die, not suffer, ya know?

Guns and nuns and moose on buns - LOL!

crack, meth, gangs, guns
Yea, wanting to be an architect is so Nazi and brain washing compared to the crypts and the bloods, welfare and prisons. Do you know what percentage of black men are in prison? What percentage get shot before they are 40? Give me a break. Needing to prepare for the end is just pure racist and you know it.
If John McCain had stuck to his guns and been...sm
able to run as himself instead of being remolded by the right wing of his party, he probably would have sailed over the finish line. He killed any chance of winning the election when he gave control away.
Lawyers, guns, and money?! no message
?
Hope y'all don't mind giving up your guns

If Obama wins, say bye-bye, and that's just the tip of this iceberg.

Remember what happened in New Orleans?  It was outrageous!

PIx didn't come through - pictures were all of guys waving large guns around...
Guns, guns, guns and threats, threats, threats.
It is weird to post this on a board "im black and i have guns and ammo" wth?
That's just plain odd to post on an MT board. Looking for trouble.

So you and your daughter have no problem with people who wish for people and their children sm
to burn in hell, call people's children ugly, etc. etc.  Well, you might not BE gt, but you might as well be.  Even the liberals don't agree with gt, or hadn't you noticed?  You might want to check that out and while you are at it, the conservative board has been a regular play pen since the liberals stopped their hateful dive bombing.  In fact, some really good conversations are taking place over there between both sides, which DOES NOT happen on this site.
Bored people are BORING people.

Is that how your people justify killing people?

So then you only like to where people who say what you believe have to say.

Pretty sad.  At least the consevatives here weather the storms and stay.  That pretty much says a lot about you and them, too.  It's sure not like you guys never took pot shots over there. Of course, I am sure it wasn't YOU. Right.

gee, 100,000 people vs. 400 people
100,000 = anti-war protesters
400 = anti-anti-war protesters

Statistics from today's White House rally.

Now shoo, run along home now back to your hole or cave or whatever you crawled out of.
I consider the people..
and programs I mentioned fair and balanced. Meet the Press, Hardball, Tyler Carlson on CNN, Face The Nation. They said that they would not accept Drudge as reliable information, not I although I don't but my opinion carries less weight than that of those mentioned above.
100 people
This was a SMALL gathering, and as stated above, Jews tend to support abortion rights more than any other group (15-20%). So this small group hardly speaks for the majority of the Jewish Community.
She has none of those people that we know of ... sm

She just got announced.  I am not saying that there is anything in her background, but it is early and I am sure if there is one iota of a person in her background then we will here about it.  For this whole experience thing, what have we got in the past 8 years and the past 8 before that with all of the so-called experience the Rep. think we need.

Why are we still bring up Rev. Wright?  Can't we just move past that?  We've heard it all.

Sorry, people....
The blame for the way Katrina was handled lays completely with the democratic Louisiana governor, Kathleen Blanco, and the democratic New Orleans mayor, Ray Nagin.

They didn't follow the protocol for disasters.

However, now Bobby Jinda, Republican governor, is in charge, and he is handling things the way they should have been back then.....

Why are people so

focused on outward appearances?  It is a person's heart that shows true beauty......not their face.  A face can change over time, but a pure heart remains and that is what is important.

Are these the same people
who can afford their cigarettes and beer?
people should have been more
people make financial mistakes... perhaps some people wouldn't be hurting so badly right now if they had been living within their financial means to begin with.
Why can't more people see that?
My husband has been saying that same thing for the past few years. I am so sick and tired of working so hard to make a good life for my family, only to have *big government* take half of my money to give to people who won't lift a finger and want government to take care of them. It just makes me sick! I don't know why so many people are so blind to this.
some people say

is the line Hannity uses to introduce such wild statements without accepting responsibility for stating them.  The post says the GROUP endosed McCain -- did not libel McCain.  Simply an example of how people are willing to run with any statement that supports their beliefs against a candidate.

God is in the People

Who are these VERY BAD people....
I'm not coming up with anything when I Google the internets..........
545 people

I'm cutting and pasting from an email my friend sent me.  Thought it was interesting enough to post here.  I really hope the spacing is okay.  The title of the email was "how to become a former columnist"

545 PEOPLE
  By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget.  The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations.

The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, nine Supreme Court justices = 545 human beings out of the 300 million who are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress.   In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.
They have no legal authority.   They have no authority to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing.   I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash.   The politician has the power to accept or reject it.   No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault.   They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall.   No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.   The president can only propose a budget.   He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, (supposedly) the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving
appropriations and taxes.   Who is the speaker of the House?   She or he is the leader of the majority party.   She or he and fellow House members, not the
president, can approve any budget they want.   If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and
irresponsibility.   I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.   When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Marines are in  IRAQ , it's because they want them in  IRAQ .

If they do not receive Social Security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's be cause they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they
can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.   Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like 'the economy,' 'inflation,' or 'politics' that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses,  provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

it's not about the people who can't
x
I want to know why people like
Dodd and Frank aren't being held accountable?  Why aren't the CEOs being held accountable?  It thoroughly ticks me off that this is literally being swept under the rug.  I want to see some punishment here. It is like they all got a get out of jail free card or something.  WTH?  They all lined their pockets with money and we are the ones paying for it and suffering.  People walking away with millions of dollars with no consequences at all while we are left to pay for their misdeeds.  I'm totally disgusted!  I say we clean house and start all over with new people.  I wanna show these politicians that I'm tired of being screwed over by them.  I really feel like this bailout was the rich bailing out their rich friends.
A lot of people are saying
Don't underestimate Gov. Sarah Palin. She knows more than people give her credit for and she's smart as a whip. Looking forward to the debate.

As for McCain's heath, I wouldn't weigh too heavily on that. He's been cleared of cancer now for at least 7 years by his doctor and is cancer-free. To be worried about that would be the same if something was to happen to Barack or Biden - would you really trust Pelosi as president? That would be too laughable if it weren't so scary. I would say if you agree with McCains policies (which I believe are going to be better for the country than Barack Osocialist's policies) then vote for him. Also remember. There are people who direct every president. There has never been any president who has ever done anything without the approval of their bosses. At least John McCain and Gov Palin will be surrounding themselves with the people who know what's going on and how to handle whatever situation arises with better solutions than the people who Obama would surround himself with. I trust that more than anything.
Yep! And yet so many people still want
more government! Unbelievable.
Because so many people are NOT sensible

What you do with this article now that you have read it
is up to you, though you appear to have several choices.

1. You can send this to everyone in your
address book, and hope' they' do something about
it.

2. You can agree to 'vote against'
everyone that is currently in office, knowing that the
process will take several years.

3. You can decide to 'run for office'
yourself and agree to do the job properly.

4. Lastly, you can sit back and do nothing, or
re-elect the current bunch.

YOU DECIDE, BUT AT LEAST SEND IT TO EVERYONE IN YOUR
ADDRESS BOOK,
MAYBE SOMEONE IN THERE WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
Maybe people
who don't put a lot of stock in a name.  Should McCain/Palin be elected, I hope you will like what you get.
It may not be for you but still is for a lot of people. nm
