Guys, I know you all worship at the feet of the Obama false idol, but for God's sake turn the channel every once in while!

Wow! Looks pretty good.

I love the sentence, *Are you tired of boards that claim to stand for Free Speech but delete your posts or ban you outright for speaking your mind?*

Thanks, gt!

This was pretty good.
I agree about the dress, though.  It looks like the same one she wore on the Tonight Show.  Must be her *Today/Tonight* dress.  With her *best-selling* (paltry) 48,000 in book sales, you'd think she could afford to buy another dress.
8 or 9 of them have bitten the dust in Sacramento alone.

I think they are all pretty good at thinking their
Rosie was the worst IMO.

Elisabeth is the best at not getting overheated IMO. Did you see Sherri the day she was responding about Ayers with the whole McCain cheated on first wife with Cindy thing - "Wow" is right as Elisabeth said "when did this get personal.
Pretty good analogy.

Used to be, most military leaders started out in the ranks (followers) and the great ones rose to leadership.  They learned to be effective leaders by following effective leaders. They learned to lead in combat by serving under combat leadership.  In war times, that can still happen - sometimes.

But nowadays, most military officers are 'college boys'  (community organizers?)who have never served in the ranks and don't really know how to lead because they never leaned how to follow.  And in challenging situations, these guys don't inspire much confidence in their troops.

I like the Japanese busines philosophy.  Before you get to be a CEO of an auto company you work 'on the line' learning how to put the cars together, and in other company divisions until you have experience in all aspects of the business.  Then you have some grasp of how to effectively lead the business. Only then are you worthy to sit in the corner office and make decisions that affect the business and every employee in it.

hey, she's pretty good, she got the poor part right!

The auto industry's V6 motor is pretty good

We get 28-30 MPH with it. Why they didn't brag this up, I have no idea. It has power, too. We could keep up with the V8's with no problem. Had a very large luxury Delta 98 LS and it was the best car we ever had...but the frame rotted away, so we kept the motor and put it into a Buick LeSabre.

Part of the problem is the unions. I've always been a union supporter, but they have really killed the industry in this country in the past 20 years. That's why there are no steel industries here anymore. That's why auto workers make a fantastic wage. Once they make good to fantastic wages, they won't back down.

Face it. People are greedy and this is a gigantic wake up call, but if they don't want to, or aren't willing to, take pay cuts, or pay more for their health insurance, then we're doomed to fall into a greater depression than seen in the 30s. A me-first-and-only-me economy doesn't work.

Example:  Teachers in my area are screaming and going on strike because they don't want to pay more for health insurance. They pay $40 biweekly.  I pay $200 a pay and before that, I paid $630 a month.  I'm happy paying $200 a month. Are they? Nope. It's me-me-me. When are people going to wake up?

The size of the lie......sm
The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, because the vast masses of a nation are, in the depths of their hearts, more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad.

The primitive simplicity of their minds renders them more easy victims of a big lie than a small one, because they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell big ones. Such a form of lying would never enter their heads. They would never credit others with the possibility of such great impudence as the complete reversal of facts.

White House Campaign to Intimidate Congress on Iraq Will Backfire
Politicians in Washington and Baghdad Failing U.S. Soldiers With Zero Progress on Political Reconciliation in Iraq

WASHINGTON - November 30 - Former Congressman Tom Andrews, National Director of the Win Without War coalition, released the following statement today on President Bush’s latest attempt to intimidate Congress on Iraq:

“President Bush is once again playing his fear and manipulation card in a desperate move to intimidate Congress into handing him a $196 billion blank check to continue a failed strategy in Iraq. Congress must not be fooled by the President’s rhetoric which is nothing more than the latest in a long line of misleading and false statements this President has made about the war.

“The President’s threats to start layoffs at the Defense Department and military bases around the country – after the Congress awarded him the largest defense budget in American history – does not pass the straight face test. The fact that the Commander and Chief used the Pentagon for political theater and the military as a political ploy is nothing short of shameful.

“The failure of the Administration’s Iraq policy to foster political reconciliation in Iraq is now threatening to unleash a new wave of violence with our soldiers once again in the crossfire. As published reports today indicate, the lack of a plan to absorb returning refugees back into Iraqi communities is about to fuel another wave of violence. The soldiers, who have been asked to sacrifice everything to give politicians in Washington and Baghdad time to achieve political stability, are suffering the grave consequence of President Bush’s failure.

“The President claimed yesterday that ‘The American people do not want the government to create needless uncertainty for those defending our country.’ He is exactly right. The Congress owes our soldiers in Iraq and the people they represent certainty that the endless war strategy of the president is over and will be replaced by a plan to end the war and bring our troops home quickly and safely. It is unacceptable to continue to demand that our brave men and women in uniform be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the failures of politicians in Washington and Baghdad.

“Congress must reject the President’s latest budget busting war funding bill and act quickly to end the war in Iraq.”

How would you know the size?
nm
I don't think the size of the subscribership is the point....

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”  From the Russell Means article below this posting, quote attributed to Margaret Mead.

I think that the important point of GT's post is the fact that the paper is located in Crawford.

Yeah. Their **big tent* is now about the size

LOL
Wondering about Georgia. s/m

Are they like Arkansas?  We may be hillbillies but we have enough sense to step on politicians when they don't deliver.  The Democrat who replaced Mike Huckabee got the mess straightened out in this basically Republican state.  I don't know of any individual cities who have their hand out here either.  Seems like states, cities AND people all want a piece of the free money.  Like all the posts here and elsewhere waiting for Obama to fill their hands with all that free cash.  EVERYBODY needs to wake up:

This is a little story about four people named everybody, somebody, anybody and nobody.

There was an important job to be done and everybody was sure that somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it but nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was everybody's job.

Everybody thought that anybody could do it but nobody realized that everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that everybody blamed somebody when nobody did what anybody could have done.

georgia editorial
This is an editorial that appeared in the Griffin, GA newspaper, written by Pastor Herb Flanders of the United Methodist Church.

Dear President Obama,

As I gather the Sunday before Memorial Day to worship with two United Methodist congregations I pastor in Griffin, Ga, I'll think about some of your recent comments. I'll be thinking of what you told a crowd of about 2,000 in Strasbourg, Germany, as you spoke of our nation's views of Europe - "Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive." The gray, balding heads on the people who worship with me attest to their years of toil and labor on this Earth. They are, as Jesus said, the 'salt of the Earth." They are grandmamas and granddaddies, blue collar folks who worked hard to build a community and raise families, to give to others when they had precious little for themselves. They continue to do these things today.

Salt of the Earth they are and heroes to boot. When this nation called they answered with a resounding 'yes' and went where Uncle Sam asked them. A couple of months ago, we laid John Busbin to rest. Like you, he visited Europe on behalf of the U.S. He beat you there by 65 years and spent his time marking and clearing mine fields, not giving speeches. Rather than being arrogant, dismissive or derisive, John partnered with the French and others to meet a common challenge. Others did the same, sailing on ships, slogging through mud or soaring through the air because evil and tyranny were well on their way to taking over the world.

I wish you'd come May 24th and sit with these folks as we sing America the Beautiful and America. I'd like it if you could sit up front with me when Maxine Bunn and Jerry Turner do a medley of military service hymns and the veterans or spouses of deceased veterans stand when their branch's hymn is played. They grab hold of the pew in front of them to pull themselves to their feet. I know I'm in the company of giants. I'd love for you to meet Janie Worthy and understand those tears that still glisten on her cheeks each Memorial Day Sunday. Janie married John Pershing Botkin in August 1943. Their daughter Gail was born Aug. 10, 1944, three or four months after John shipped out to Europe. Janie, 19, went to St. Mary's, Ohio to stay with her in-laws after Gail was born. One Sunday afternoon in early December, farm families began to call each other as the postmaster's Model A made its way down the country roads. They knew that car carried news that would shatter a family and were trying to figure out where he was headed. He stopped in front of Janie's in-laws' farmhouse. Her daddy-in-law walked out to meet him and learned that John was killed in action Nov. 11, 1944, serving with the Army in Alsace. Cpl. Botkin never saw, held or kissed his little girl. As a father, you can empathize with Janie's salty tears.

Perhaps if you could come you'd see why your words hurt so many so much. America may be many things and she certainly isn't perfect, but heroes with whom I share my life have hardly been arrogant, dismissive or derisive of Europe. They've given themselves to save Europe when Europe couldn't save itself. So, Mr. President, get out of Washington for a weekend and take a trip down to Georgia. We'll feed you some barbecue over in Williamson and I'll introduce you to some friends of mine, some everyday giants and ordinary heroes.

God bless,

Herb Flanders
Based on what is going on right now with Russia and georgia...
I would say looking in his eyes and seeing KGB is pretty much on the mark. McCain knows who and what Russian "management" are. You can see what they think about negotiations. Basically told the world up yours, if we want Georgia back we are going to take it. Why doesn't Obama go visit them like he did Germany and give a speech about how he is a citizen of the world and see how far it gets him. Sigh....Careful what YOU ask for.
Georgia used to be part of the USSR before...
the USSR broke off. It is a democracy now. If Georgia is in NATO now, we would be obligated as a NATO signatory to defend them. That is what he meant. As would other NATO countries.

I really don't think Russia wants to get into a confrontation with NATO. That does not concern me as much as them playing war games with Chavez in Venezuela. That is very concerning.
Sorry, I meant "in Georgia"....nm

Since when is Georgia a blue state?
Just wondering.
forgot - I live in GEORGIA!

Well your in a crowd of a very few
I am glad you and YOUR DH voted for him for those reasons and that his race had nothing whatsoever to do with it. That's why you should vote for someone, but you know for a fact that most people voted for him because of his race and nothing else. Plain and simple. Yeah, I "hope" he does turn around things and makes it better for all Americans (right now I'm seeing it getting better for only a few select - but like I say it's only a month - gotta give him time).

BTW - I did vote for him in the primaries. I believed in him back then. Only until after the primaries ended did I start hearing the truth. In the main election I ended up voting the the constitution party, so I voted for neither he or McCain.
I am talking about the HOPE grant in Georgia
It comes from our lottery money. Will look up the other Hope that you are talking about.
With the crowd you hang with, you probably

what I meant was, this is being said from JM crowd? (NM)

And a hush came over the crowd.
Thanks for the reminder.
Bet we'd recognize each other in a crowd

Spent most of my adult life in Texas but never lost my Arkie accent.  We go to NE OK all the time and they don't sound any different than I do.......now my husband was born and raised in Chicago but he's lost some of that accent. LOL  He loves pinto beans, CFS and mashed taters and white gravy.  He better, I cook it.

That "soda" thing just drives me nuts too.  Hubby has learned that "coke" is any soft drink..even his Dr. Pepper.  When people want a soda I always wonder why they would want to drink Arm & Hammer!!

Judge not does not mean go with the crowd
nm
Yep, the wait-and-see crowd

has not much to say.  We waited.  We saw.  None of this surprises anybody who watched anything other than CBS, NBC and ABC during the campaign.

And remember, Clinton was impeached, but remained in office.  Throwing the bum out is a separate step after impeachment.

so you don't think over 700,000 people are a crowd?
There are over 300 cities participating in these tea parties today. There are thousands and thousands at each of these events.

If you don't think there were that many, well then you weren't watching.

If you put them all in one city like they did with Obama's inaugeration I'll guarantee you there are more than were at the inaugeration.
Yeah, have you seen them talking to the crowd?
nm
Your crowd booed a man in a wheelchair.
nm
I'm in the powerless hazel crowd too. Very sad.
Couldn't we get some blue contacts and work some voodoo, too? That cluck in Brazil would never know the difference.
tell the Hollywood crowd that...they always promise to leave, and never go....nm

Agree. The booing from the crowd today made me

bad toothsayers are the jack-o-lantern crowd - gum flappers!
x
I couldn't get in...crowd already exceeded the fire code.
So, after parking two blocks away and trudging to the party, the fire officials kept us out because the fire code only allows 300, of which there were more than that inside. Then the cops told us we couldn't congregate outside either due to traffic and not having a separate (outdoor) permit.

Not exactly what I'd hoped for since it was a wasted trip for me, but still wonderful.
Obama Justice Department Decision Will Allow Non-Citizens to Register to Vote in Georgia

Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel issued the following statement following the U.S. Department of Justice’s denial of preclearance of Georgia’s voter verification process

Atlanta - “The decision by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to deny preclearance of Georgia’s already implemented citizenship verification process shows a shocking disregard for the integrity of our elections. With this decision, DOJ has now barred Georgia from continuing the citizenship verification program that DOJ lawyers helped to craft. DOJ’s decision also nullifies the orders of two federal courts directing Georgia to implement the procedure for the 2008 general election. The decision comes seven months after Georgia requested an expedited review of the preclearance submission.

“DOJ has thrown open the door for activist organizations such as ACORN to register non-citizens to vote in Georgia’s elections, and the state has no ability to verify an applicant’s citizenship status or whether the individual even exists. DOJ completely disregarded Georgia’s obvious and direct interest in preventing non-citizens from voting, instead siding with the ACLU and MALDEF. Clearly, politics took priority over common sense and good public policy.

“This process is critical to protecting the integrity of our elections. We have evidence that non-citizens have voted in past Georgia elections and that more than 2,100 individuals have attempted to register, yet still have questions regarding their citizenship. Further, the Inspector General’s office is investigating more than 30 cases of non-citizens casting ballots in Georgia elections, including the case of a Henry County non-citizen who registered to vote and cast ballots in 2004 and 2006.

“It is important to underscore that not a single person has come forward to say he or she could not vote because of the verification process. Further, while DOJ argues that the process is somehow discriminatory, the historic voter turnout among Hispanic and African-American voters in the 2008 general elections clearly says otherwise.

“This decision provides a specific example of the inherently illogical and unfair nature of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. It is a sad day for the rights of our state and for the integrity of our elections. I remain committed to continuing the fight for citizenship verification. In the coming days, I will consider every option available to the state, including the possibility of legal action.”

Background:

As required by law and ordered by federal courts in October 2008, the eligibility of new applicants to register and vote is checked against the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) and Social Security Administration databases to ensure that individuals registering to vote report similar information. If information in these databases does not match information reported on the voter registration form, the applicant is asked to clarify the information. Additionally, if the applicant previously reported to DDS that he or she is not a U.S. citizen, that person is asked by a registrar to provide proof of citizenship.

Prior to the November 2008 General Election, Secretary Handel sent letters to 4,771 voter registration applicants whose records at DDS indicated they were not U.S. citizens, asking them to provide documentation of their citizenship. As of March 2009, 2,148 of these applicants still have chosen not to resolve the question about their U.S. citizenship.

In the November 2008 General Election, county election officials reported that 599 individuals cast a challenged ballot because the voter had previously indicated to DDS that he or she was not a United States citizen and had not resolved their status with county officials at the time of the election. Of those, 369 ballots were accepted because the voter provided documentation of their citizenship after the election; and 230 were rejected because the individual chose not to confirm his or her citizenship status.

On October 10, 2008, activist organizations including the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit to attempt to prevent Georgia from verifying the eligibility of applicants to register and vote in the November General Election, including whether those individuals were citizens of the United States.

On October 16, 2008, U.S. District Court Judge Jack Camp denied the motion by MALDEF and ACLU; directed the State to continue the verification process; and acknowledged the State’s requirements to verify information under the Help America Vote Act. In his order, Judge Camp stated:

HAVA requires that Defendant Handel match information in the statewide voter registration database with information from the Georgia DDS and the SSA databases “to the extent necessary to enable each such official to verify the accuracy of the information provided on the applications for voter registration.”

Judge Camp also stated: ...

McCain Camp Buses In School Kids To Fill Crowd

Surely this information is incorrect.

The most cringe-worthy political moment of the day, so far, came when Sen. John McCain called out for his new buddy Joe the Plumber to stand up at a rally in Ohio, only to be greeted with confused silence. Joe the Plumber wasn't there.

But that rally featured another embarrassing moment, one that illustrates a far more troubling dynamic for the Republican ticket. The McCain campaign actually had to bus in school kids from the surrounding area in order to fill the event. As reported by MSNBC:

A local school district official confirmed after the event that of the 6,000 people estimated by the fire marshal to be in attendance this morning, more than 4,000 were bused in from schools in the area. The entire 2,500-student Defiance School District was in attendance, the official said, in addition to at least three other schools from neighboring districts, one of which sent 14 buses.

This happened -- as if a reminder were needed -- less than a week out from the election, when the heat of the campaign should be drawing record crowds.

Good post....truth doesn't always sound good
@
Isn't she pretty?
She looks like a normal person too, not a clueless politican who has never paid a bill.
McCain and his wife scare me but I am so excited about her!
I'm pretty sure
that this post didn't have anything to do with Obama. The topic is McCain/Contra in this post. I can't stand either of them, but thanks for the advice.
pretty much
it is unlikely that we are ever going to agree, and honestly, I just come here to interact with adults. I just moved here, my husband is deployed and I don't know anyone, so it is nice to "talk" to adults. It is all good natured (on my part anyway) and I really just like to argue

I think you pretty much did that all by yourself. nm

So you just pretty much sent me to ...

the bad place with fire and stuff because of a joke that had absolutely nothing to do with religion based simply on the fact that I am an A... (the one whose name shall not be mentioned).

Pretty sure
Pretty certain that you are going to be standing before God too, right?  Or are u exempt?  Anyway, I bet he doesnt like foul-mouthed witch hunters one bit!  I also bet he doesnt like it when his children start fights and are accusatory to innocent people.  You have a high horse, what is it's name?
Pretty sad but just think
how many ignorant people will come back with.....but he is cutting the budget.  LOL.  All his sheeple will hear is budget cut and they are on board with him as per usual.  If Obama promised to stop farting in an effort to lessen pollution.....his adoring fans would praise him from the highest mountain for all to hear.
