I would have stated who and what they are debating. Kerry was furious. Sen. Sessions (R-AL) doesn't seem to want to work with anyone on "the other side" either.
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nevada) had a really good speech. He went through the whys and why nots of how this whole mess started. He is willing to work with the other side but he stated that the other side has to work with them, too, which so far, is not happening. He stated that the stimulus package was pushed through the house without any debate, without anyone seeing exactly what was in it, and it was the wrong thing to do. He doesn't care that O wants this passed by President's day. It has to be worked out slowly so they don't make the same kind of mistakes that they did with the last stimulus package.
It's not just tax cuts the pubs want. They want some of the spending in there, too, just not the most ridiculous items. They want the infrastructure in but not just 3% of the total package spread out over 4 years. It wouldn't make much of a difference.
Now, on another subject, I had MSNBC on another TV. Surprisingly, they were only allowing sound for the debate when the democrats are speaking. Hmmm.
1000 bucks a month
That is a lot to pay for health insurance. There does need to be reform so that it is more affordable, I just don't see how mandatory coverage is going to do it.

is placed on hiring issues that have nothing to do with the job to be performed. Hire the best qualified, no ifs, ands, or buts.

And I didn't mean we need to start a war with Iran, as that would also be a tragedy, but we sure as hell didn't need to go to war with Iraq. Bush never gave a thought to diplomacy, of course I don't think he ever had a thought, period.... All of his doing comes from behind the scenes, and if he is ever impeached, they better take Cheney out with him, the cause of this atrocity.
To me $1000 health insurance premium is a lot
That's fine you don't care about the fact that many families are working their fingers to the bone just to pay for necessities, including health insurance, but I do. I care very much and am very sad that so many people in this country only seem to care about children that come from upper middle class and rich families. I guess they deserve better health care than the middle-class kids. I don't know how people that feel that way can go to bed with a clear conscience.
People in Congress that we took the time to elect put a lot of effort into negotiating this bill to make both parties relatively happy. YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TAXED FOR IT. THE CIGARETTE TAX WOULD HAVE GONE UP. Keep telling yourself what you need to tell yourself to sleep at night, but the fact is kids with diabetes from a lower-middle-class income family have less of a chance of surviving than a child from an upper class income family. That is a sad, sad, fact.

NEW YORK To mark what it called the 1000 Days of the Iraq war, the London daily The Independent offered extensive coverage today, featuring a by-the-numbers approach.
Here are some of their calculations:

In an accompanying piece from Baghdad, the newspaper's Patrick Cockburn adds one more stat: A BBC poll yesterday showed that half of the Iraqis questioned say that Iraq needs a strong leader--while only 28 per cent cited democracy as a priority.
Iraqis are cynical about their political leaders, Cockburn writes. The election results are likely to show that the great majority of Iraqis will vote along ethnic or religious lines as Shia, Sunni or Kurds. The country is turning from a unitary state into a confederation.
There is no sign yet of the thousand-day war ending. Every month up to a thousand fresh corpses arrive at the mortuary in Baghdad. A new Iraq is emerging but it is already drenched in blood.
Our government is acting
like bad parents who let their kids do whatever because they are their best friends and they don't want their kids mad at them. It is the "they must like me" syndrome. Instead of keeping our defense strong and standing up against bullies, we are wanting to have tea and crumpets with comrades from other countries to talk about our differences. The only way they will be happy if they take over and are the super power instead of the US. The US has had control of the seas since WWII and now China has a weapon that will take out an air craft carrier. We may be arrogant, but we haven't taken crap from people. We always helped others who needed help. Now all these other countries would love nothing more than to see us fall flat on our face and for them to take over and start telling us what to do and no civil discussion held between Obama and any leader of another country is going to change that.....I don't care if Obama actually gives them a good gift that time. They hate us. They want us to fail. They want to be the super power. There is no talking about this as there is nothing to talk about. Obama is dreaming to think that he can talk to these people. They are just biding their time until the US goes bankrupt so they can take over.
Isn't Obama acting just like any
teenager, as far as his reaction to all this? Thinks he knows everything. Thinks his parents (the rest of the country) are dumb as a box of rocks. Won't listen to us. Won't listen to other grownups (certain European leaders) when they say, ''Learn from our experience. What you're doing will come to a bad end.'' Nobody can teach him anything. Takes a certain type of youthful arrogance to think you have all the answers when you cannot even imagine all the questions, to think that your outcome will be better just because of how special you are.
When a parent encounters this type of pumped-up juvenile behavior, the only thing to do is make the kid get a job pay for his own mistakes, take away the car keys, ground him until he's 21 and hope by the time he grows up he may realize we're not as stupid as we look.

What puzzles me is who cares what any actors think about anything other than acting?
Why should I care what Tom Hanks thinks about politics? Or what Sean Penn thinks about Hugo Chavez? They have no particular expertise that makes their opinions one bit more interesting or any more valid than my mailman. In fact, I'd be more interested to know what an ordinary citizen like my mailman thinks.
I can't understand why anyone interviews them or quotes them on such topics AT ALL. Even more, I can't understand why any of us would listen to them or give 2 cents for their opinions.

I only lost $1000 so far-Hubby lost $2000 in a week (sm)
so, I called his financial advisor yesterday and told him to put hubby in a "safe" plan. It's now in a money market fund that is part of his IRA.
I have no choice. I have to stay where I am. I have no "safe" available. Neither of us will be able to retire on what is now in our 401Ks and you're not the only one. We couldn't buy a car with Both our 401Ks, let alone live on it.
We are late starters for retirement not until our late 40s funds (most of our employers did not offer pensions). We are now of the first retirement tier and although we own our home outright, if we live until we are 90, there is no way we can live off retirement 401Ks or SS.
My husband's father told him back in the 50s that we would experience something like what is happening today and stated it would be worse than the ཙ crash. It is sure starting to look that way, but we will survive some way, I hope.
We need to pray for the people on SS now that cannot survive. I, for one, would love to help them, but can't help ourselves at this moment.

I think maybe what poster is trying to say
is that if same sex partners were meant to be in the first place, the body parts would be made to fit as well. Well, they're not, plain and simple. Man and woman were intentionally designed for the body parts to fit for a reason. Man and man and woman and woman were not and no matter how you try to twist that one, they're just not.

There was a poster on here during
the primaries who waxed about how wonderful with Obama as president it would be to walk out to the mailbox and get another stimulus check like the $600.00 one received previously under the Bush administration, although the poster just knew it was going to be much more than $600.00. Life was exciting just to look forward to another check in the mailbox. Sort of like the woman who said, "Obama gonna pay my mortgage and put gas in my car" entitlement attitude.
I guess that old adage is still true: There's a sucker born every minute.
The only thing Americans are going to get from this porkulus package is higher taxes, more lost jobs, and a day of reckoning, the day Obama gets on TV and finally announces what every clear-thinking American already knows, we are bankrupt, and our biggest debt holder, China, is calling in the debt and taking us over. Well, somebody's got to pay the debt to the biggest debt holder. Considering China's treatment of its own people, just how do you think Americans will be treated?

Obama is nothing more than a merchant of false hope. At least 49% of our population had the good sense to recognize it.
After Obama throws at least another trillion dollars we don't have at the economic problems, puts some people to work building new roads, institutes another dozen or so failed plans by the top economists of our day, it will become apparent that he has no real answers to our economic problems. Of course, that is because it is not really an economic problem but a spiritual one.

about Christians hating Muslims. She just said that Islam is being taught in Muslim schools in the US and that those teachings are to hate and annihilate the Christians (infidels). Incidentally, Christians are not the only infidels; anyone who does not profess the Islamic faith is an infidel. Unless you are Muslim yourself, that includes you. I think the other poster is well within her rights to be concerned about a religion whose sole goal in life is to take out as many infidels as possible so that they are assured of their 7 virgins.
Were you educated in a Christian school? I personally don't know of any of the mainstream Christian denominations that teach to hate and condemn specific groups of people. FWIW, I don't hate Muslims. They are, after all, fellow human beings, but I do hate what their religion teaches them to do.
If a certain poster is a liar...
(or if anyone is, from the president right on down)...and of course this is fully documented and there is no question about it...and then they ask us to believe a claim of high personal integrity...well, er, that's asking a little too much. One has to wonder, do they believe their own delusions? Do they really think the house of cards is never going to crash down? Or do they just want us to think it?

I remember a year or so ago when this issue was raised, a journalist was interviewing a doctor who performs these abortions and it was not for the reasons you mentioned; it was simply because the mother requested it, did not want the child, and decided to have an abortion. He performed them. He made no apologies for these murders and as one would expect, he had convinced himself it was not murder.

You stick to your gut instincts. You are right on so many levels. Most of what you say is true and we should all try to buy what is made in this country and discount any companies that have moved our jobs overseas or over the border.
Obama has some wonderful "butterflies and gumdrop" view of thinking he can be everybody's buddy, including Pakistan, which you notice he pronounces much differently than most and that says a lot to me, as well as Venezuela, Brazil, Russian, Cuba; the list goes on and on. Heaven only knows what deals with the devil he will make to get them to like "him" and I can guarantee you he will make this all about him.
The very idea that he tries to portray to the people in this country that 200-250K somehow makes you rich is a very deviant, sneaky, way of trying to mould a picture to the middle class of those "mean old rich folks" who have more than you like that is a terrible thing. How dare someone have something more than you! Isnt' that terrible? Don't you think we should take their money and partake? That way, none of you will have to work hard to achieve anything. If you are so worried about people of another race running our country...... well you are too late. Did you check out the guy that is in charge of the bailout money? He is from Stow Ohio. He is Muslim. Believe it or not there are other Muslims that are already working in our government. So, maybe you should immediately call for the impeachment of Pres. Bush. After all, this is his administration. Also, Palin is associated with some extremists up there in Alaska. The Alaska Independence Group. She supports them, she has hired people into her adminstration from their group, she has funded them. They are anti-government. They want to separate from the rest of the United States. They don't like the United States. Read up on it, since your so into research. They are very questionable. Some of their beliefs may even be considered borderline possible domestic terrorism. Also, she wants to stretch, by her own standards not the constitution, the powers and roll of the vice president. Thats a little scary, putting someone in there who thinks she can do what she wants in her job instead of being confined by the boundaries of the CONSTITUTION. But you dont seem to have any problems with that. Is it maybe because the color of her skin?
