Site with the latest version of the stimulus bill. sm
Here is the link to the bill:
http://appropriations.house.gov/

Apparently, they are not going to have enough time to read it before the final vote. It is 1,071 pages long and Ms. Pelosi is going on vacation somewhere for eight days.

OMG! Bill O'Reilly was on the View today!!!

Joy was hateful through the whole thing. I used to like her but not anymore.

She's always arguing with Liz and now she even told Bill that she doesn't hate him, she just dislikes him. You know why? He tells it like it is and she even seemed furious that he and Barney Fife got into it on his program. It makes her sound like she likes Barney and she definitely doesn't believe he had anything to do with the downfall of FM/FM.  Bill tried to explain it but you think she would listen? Heck no.  I just can't believe how hateful she can be!

Not saying it is not truly bipartisan, but...
it is almost entirely funded by the Annenberg Foundation..

FactCheck.org is a nonprofit website[1] that describes its own goal as "[reducing] the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics". In its efforts, FactCheck claims to be nonpartisan.[2] It is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and is funded primarily by the Annenberg Foundation.[2]

I found this on Annenberg:
Annenberg Foundation to Make Documents Related to Chicago Challenge Available

The Annenberg Foundation has announced that, along with the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, it will make available all materials related to its Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC).

CAC was part of the $500 million Annenberg Challenge for School Reform that, in the 1990s, brought together civic, business, and university leaders with foundations and other groups in support of school-improvement projects. Following recent news reports that have raised questions about Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's role in the $50 million CAC project and the availability of materials related to it, the foundation has agreed to make all CAC-related documents available to the public by appointment. The majority of the documents are archived at the University of Illinois at Chicago, while others are located at the Annenberg Institute and the foundation's offices in Radnor, Pennsylvania.

Three summative studies of the Annenberg Challenge for School Reform published by the foundation and institute are available on the Annenberg Institute Web site: The Annenberg Challenge: Lessons and Reflections on Public School Reform (61 pages, PDF), Research Perspectives on School Reform: Lessons from the Annenberg Challenge (14 pages, PDF), and The Arts and School Reform: Lessons and Possibilities from the Annenberg Challenge Arts Projects (52 pages, PDF).

Not saying this would make them lean one way or the other...but this is where the money comes from.
Where is all of "O's" big bipartisan rhetoric now?
Obviously that is all it was....rhetoric.  Preached we had to work across the aisle...bipartisanship...to get things done.  And now, with the biggest crisis this country has faced in decades, and he has a chance to put his money where his mouth is...what does he do?  Decides what is best for Barack, and that is the tack he takes.  ANY credibility he had left with me is gone.
If you were really bipartisan you would not have to ask that question...sm
Just campare their experience and their records. I just hope that I won't eventually have to say I told you so.
They said instead of all the talk about it being a bipartisan

effort, it turned out to be a partisan effort (dems against pubs again).

Speaker Pelosi struck the tone of partisanship in this. Failure of Speaker Pelosi .... failure to listen, failure to lead.

94 dems voted NO!

They're going back to the drawing table.

Bipartisan politics at its best! LOL
n
May I be the first to offer resounding bipartisan

When Bill Clinton was in office, OHHH you better believe Bill and Carter have had..sm
their day of mudslinging matches, at the pleasure of a many conservatives. So, no there's not a double standard here.
Please enlighten me...

I say all life is sacred or no life is sacred, no exceptions. You say ** it works for you but not for me and everyone knows it.** You will excuse my reference to Darwinism here but there IS a missing link.  I also believe that all deaths matter, or no death matters at all.

What I am trying to say is every life, no matter when you believe it begins or ends, is sacred, EVERY life, that includes every living breathing person on this planet, even those you really really really don't like or those who have created heinous crimes. All life is sacred or no life is sacred, no exceptions. God, not you or me or W is the real decider.

Now, please advise how did you get from my  simple statement the idea that this **won't work for me and everybody knows it.**

Enlighten....
It is simple. What I meant is, it is a war of words, and how you read it and how I read it are two different things. Either all life is sacred or none is sacred, but you qualify that with life, no matter where you say it begins or ends. We separate right there, and will never agree. The quote is qualified...meaning, all life is sacred or none is sacred does not work for you unqualified. You said: *What I am trying to say is every life, no matter when you believe it begins or ends, is sacred, EVERY life, that includes every living breathing person on this planet, even those you really really really don't like or those who have created heinous crimes.* I agree with that, but substitute life with soul. I do believe every soul is sacred and the same in God's eyes, no matter what the person in their humanity has done. I certainly believe that a man convicted and sitting on death row for unimaginable crimes, should he repent and accept what God offers, his soul should be in Heaven right along with every other soul in Heaven. That, however, not absolve him of crimes committed in his humanity for which he has to atone in his humanity, according to the laws of the land (as the Bible states), be that imprisonment or execution. If we do not like the laws of the land, then we need to change them the way we change any laws, through our representative lawmakers. However, in order for that to work, we need to make sure judges stop legislating from the bench. That is WRONG.
I don't. Enlighten me. nm
.
Enlighten me please
Just what is it that you're "trying to get through" to me?
Please enlighten me since you

obviously know everything....how many detainees have been through Gitmo and how many have been "tortured."

Sounds to me like you have no sympathy for those people who were killed execution style by a former Gitmo detainee.  All you do is consistently show sympathy for terrorists.  Or is it just the fact that the people killed were Christians and so you don't care since you have obvious hate and disdain for anything associated with God.

Bush made mistakes and if you have your way...him and Cheney will be swinging from the nearest tree in no time.

However, how can you be so blind as to allow Obama to hurry up and close Gitmo with no place for the detainees?  Do you want them all released?  Do you want them sent back where they came from so they can start up killing Americans again?  Or how about we put them in our own prison systems so they can recruit within our own country and then later be released here in our own country?

It seems to me that you seem to forgive them killing thousands of Americans in an act of terrorrism and yet you keep harping on harsh interrogations like that is worse than murdering thousands of Americans.  How sad you are!

Maybe you should enlighten yourself....
actually be taught properly, there would be such an uprising in this country, it would put the civil rights uprising to shame!

His website is where the parents go to get homework info, children's grades, etc., and he actually lets them know EXACTLY what is going on in the classroom.... isn't it strange all the parents really like him? Always that one pathetic lost soul who just wants to find problems to gripe about where there are none...

JM credibility on moderate inclusive bipartisan

One would imagine so he can get bipartisan 1st-hand info
It is appropriate that he continues exactly on the course he is following for the moment...cabinet building, prioritizing and preparing initiatives for day one so as to hit the gound running.
Knew it would happen. Bipartisan, my foot.

McCain's amendment that would only cost $450B and provide almost everything for the people failed. Ayes-40, Nayes 57. That's how much the Naysayers care for the people of this country.

I'd join the grassroots movement but I don't even have a car that would get me to  D. C.

Please enlighten me as to what it means.
Considering we will never leave Iraq if Bush plans on placing a permanent military base there.
Nope, Enlighten me.

Please enlighten me with your wisdom.

How do you handle this then?  Terrorists who want us dead and will do anything to accomplish that.  How do you deal with them?  What is the source?  Do we all convert to their religion?  What?  I'm curious as to what your solution is for this mess.

I still would like to see Obama go after the CEOs of these big  corporations and banks the pocketed loads of money and walked away from a failing business.  Why aren't they being investigated and tried for what they have done?  Instead of we going after the past administration even though dems knew what was going on.

As for your information about Mohammed giving info until the harsh interrogations.....there are two sides to this story and until everything is released and looked into, all you go by is what MSNBC says and the rest of us go by facts.

Nancy Pelosi and other dems were brief on these interrogations and they did NOTHING.  The government has only allowed part of the information to be unclassified.  There is still other information out there that they have not brought to light and seem to be not wanting to bring to light.  Wonder why....hmmmm.

The reason behind terrorist attacks is because they are Muslim extremists who believe their religion has called them to rid the world of people who aren't Muslim.  No tea and cookies and friendly talks is EVER going to change that.

Bill Maher Takes On Bill O'Reilly

BILL O'REILLY, HOST: In the "Personal Story" segment tonight, political humorist Bill Maher (search), he has a new book out called "New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer." Of course, Mr. Maher is about as polite as I am and as timid as Dracula. He joins us now from Los Angeles.

You know, you've had some celebrities on your HBO show, "Real Time," which begins again on Friday, talking about policy and war on terror and stuff like that. I get the feeling they don't know very much, but you do. So I'd like to make Bill Maher, right now, the terror czar. Bill Maher, the terror czar. Could be a series.

How would you fight this War on Terror? How would you fight it?

BILL MAHER, HOST, HBO'S "REAL TIME": I think the first and most important thing is to get the politics out of the War on Terror. You know, maybe I'm a cockeyed optimist, Bill, maybe I'm naive, but I thought that 9/11 was such a jarring event that nobody would dare return to business as usual on that one subject after that.

But of course, we found out that nothing could be further from the truth. And your president, my president too, but the one you voted for...

O'REILLY: You don't know that. Were you looking over my shoulder there? I could have voted for Nader. I could have voted for Kerry, but Kerry wouldn't come on the program, so I wouldn't vote. But I could have gone for Ralph. Ralph's a friend of mine.

MAHER: Yes. Anyway, I said the guy you voted for, President Bush, you know, how come this guy, who was supposed to be such a kick-and-take- names kind of guy, how come he has not been able to get the politics out of this?

You know, as a guy who's been accused of treason, I'll tell you what real treason is: Treason is when legislators vote against homeland security measures because it goes against the wishes of their political or financial backers. Treason is the fact that, as a terrorist, you could still buy a gun in this country because the NRA (search) lobby is so strong.

O'REILLY: OK. But you're getting into the political, and I agree with you. I think that the country should be united in trying to seek out and kill terrorists, who would kill us.

But I'd like to have some concrete things that you, Bill Maher, the terror czar — and take this seriously, this could be a series — what would you do?

All right, so you've got bin Laden. You've got Al Qaeda (search). You've got a bunch of other lower-level terrorist groups. What do you do to neutralize them?

MAHER: OK. Well, first of all, you discounted my answer, which is get the politics out, but OK.

O'REILLY: Well, assume you can do that. They're gone.

MAHER: We'll let that go. Keep going. I wouldn't worry that much about bin Laden. I mean, capturing bin Laden at this point, it doesn't really matter whether he's dead or alive. He's already Tupac to the people who care about him and work for him. Capturing bin Laden, killing him would be like when Ray Kroc died, how much that affected McDonald's.

O'REILLY: It would be a morale booster. But I understand. You're not going to send...

MAHER: A morale booster, right. Well, we've had plenty of morale boosting. We've had plenty of window dressing. What we need is concrete action.

In the book I wrote before this one about terrorism, I suggested that we have a Secret Service for the people. I said whenever the president goes anywhere, he has very high-level, intelligent detectives who look around at a crowd. They know what they're looking for. They're highly paid. They're highly trained.

We don't have that in this country. We should have that. We should have a cadre of 10,000 highly trained people who would guard all public events, bus stations, train stations, airports — and stop with this nonsense that this robotic sort of window dressing...

O'REILLY: OK, so you would create a homeland security office that was basically a security firm for major targets and things like that. It's not a bad idea. Costs a lot of money. Costs a lot of money. It's not a bad idea.

MAHER: Costs a lot of money compared to what? If you paid 10,000 people a salary of $100,000 a year, that would, I think, cost $10 billion or something. That's nothing. There's that much pork in the transportation bill before you get...

O'REILLY: Yes, 10,000 wouldn't do it, but I get your drift.

MAHER: Whatever it costs.

O’REILLY: You would create a super-security apparatus. OK, that's not bad. That's not bad. How about overseas now?

MAHER: What we need to do is what I call get Israeli about this. Because the Israelis are not afraid of profiling. The Israelis are not afraid to bury politics in the greater cause of protecting their nation. We don't act that way. You know, I'm afraid 9/11 really changed nothing.

O'REILLY: Boy, your ACLU (search) pals aren't going to like that. You're going to lose your membership card there.

MAHER: I'm not a member of the ACLU.

O'REILLY: Oh, sure you are, just like I voted for Bush. You're a member of the ACLU. I can see the card right in your pocket there.

MAHER: Bill, I'm not a joiner. I'm not a joiner. I don't like organizations.

O'REILLY: They won't have you, Maher, let's be honest about that. All right, now, in your book, which is very amusing, by the way — if you want a few laughs buy Maher's book.

MAHER: Thank you.

O'REILLY: You take some shots at FOX News, which is your wont, and I just want to know why you think we're so fabulously successful here.

MAHER: Well, I think that question has been answered many times. It's because the conservative viewer in this country, or on radio the conservative listener, is very predictable. They like to hear what they like to hear. They like to hear it over and over again.

O'REILLY: All the surveys show that the viewers are all over the map. They're not conservative in a big bloc. Some of them are moderate. Some of them are Democrats. Some of them are Moroccans. I mean, they're everywhere. That's your analysis? That just the conservatives watch us?

MAHER: Well, I think mostly the conservatives do watch you. That's not to take anything away from what you guys have achieved over there. It's a very well-produced broadcast, and they have excellent personalities like yourself, Bill. Who could resist watching you when you get home from work at night?

O'REILLY: Whoopi Goldberg, maybe? I don't know.

MAHER: Yes.

O'REILLY: Anyone who doesn't watch here is misguided. We identify them as such.

But look, I think there's more to it than — you're in TV. You know the ratings game. I mean, if you don't provide a product that is satisfying people, no matter what your ideology, they tell you to take a hike.

There's a guy over at MSNBC. He's a very conservative guy. He was hired and nobody's watching him. They hire liberals. Nobody watches them. Air America (search). Nobody's listening to it.

I mean, there's got to be a reason why we're No. 1, a punch line for you, and No. 2, you know, becoming the most powerful news network in the world.

MAHER: Well, I think, as I say, it's a well-produced product. You know, your program moves along, always at a clip that never seems to bore. You know, you move along to the next topic, the next guest. It never sort of drags. I don't think a lot of people know how to produce that stuff that way.

O'REILLY: All right. It's bells and whistles and my charming personality. That's what I thought it was.

Last thing: You know, one thing I like about Maher is he's not a hypocrite. He drives a little hybrid vehicle. Right? You putter around there. Does it have training wheels? What's it like?

MAHER: Actually, I had the Prius hybrid for three years. I was one of the first ones to get it right after 9/11. And I traded it in a few months ago for the Lexus hybrid.

O'REILLY: I think we should all cut back on our energy consumption, and I think we should all get these hybrids as fast as we can.

Hey, Bill, always nice to see you. Thanks very much. Good luck with the season on the TV show.

MAHER: Continued success there, Mr. No. 1.

O'REILLY: All right. Thank you.

Bill Clinton and his ties to India (yes, Bill),...
and China (yes, Bill) sent a lot of our jobs their way. Google it some time. Even I was amazed.

Look, it is simple economics. The big bad corporations everyone hates...first of all, it is not 5 or 6 rich guys and that's it. They employee thousands of people just like us...and when the government puts those huge taxes on them, if they want to stay in business, they are forced to move offshore. Higher taxes are responsible for more jobs going overseas than "greed." The DNC has told its members for years that "corporations" and "the rich" are the cause of all their problems and they have bought that Marxist rhetoric hook, line, and sinker. Corporations are not the cause of ill in this country. They are the backbone of the economy in this country. That is simple economics 101. And I am certainly not rich...and I certainly am not on the upper echelon of a corporation, but I do understand reality and I understand how the economy works. Yes, there is wrongdoing by some upper level folks in corporations. There is wrongdoing in the government. Where there is power, there will be wrongdoing. But for every Enron there are thousands of other good, solid companies that employ thousands of Americans, but the DNC does not share the success stories, because it does not promote their agenda. In order to control people they want them beholden to government and hating free enterprise. They want big government, total power, and control. And following Alinksy's program...you have to instill class warfare. You have to make corporations the enemy. You have to make classes envy the next rung up. Classic Marxist socialism. It is being played out in this country every day.

It is just that some of us have not bought the myth and jumped on the socialism train.
Did you read the bill? It was a regulatory reform bill...
asking them to regulate, not de-regulate. But Democrats blocked it...no wonder. Fannie was greasing a lot of Democratic palms...and Frederick Raines, the Dem CEO at the time...was in the Clinton administration. They were taking care of their own...and we are paying for it.
Do you know what bipartisan is? Both sides made concessions in order to .sm
make it a reflection of bipartisanship so that both parties would be able to vote for it. Of course there will always be some people that will not be satisfied. That is the nature of things. However, to say that because Nancy Pelosi is responsible for the loss of votes because she made harsh statements about the Bush administration is just ridiculous.
On a lighter note, a bipartisan funny card (sm)

The banks have been the biggest LEACHES sucking everything out of our present economy, the most ravenous pigs going. Perhaps you could enlighten us on the economic crisis suffered by
There is nothing in your chart or context that convincingly explains away the $559 billion dollar surplus Clinton left behind when his term came to an end.

Having said that, most Americans will agree that, when compared to the past 8 years, the middle class enjoyed a prosperous decade in the 90s. I was able to pay off my condo, so it has been foreclosure-proof under W.
Bipartisan (well, kind of) funny video on Hillary. Hope it works.

Hope this works for you all, it's worth it!!

My take on the subject, the short version.
Every country has some form of socialized medicine. Ours is comprised of the poor, the elderly, and those giving service to our country (military and political of which number in the millions) both past and present that encompasses their family members as well through different benefit packages depending on where they fall within the system. I believe the major argument is about extending those benefits in a social manner outside of what is already in place.
Reader's Digest version....
Nancy Pelosi is Catholic, Joe Biden is Catholic. Nancy Pelosi made some comment about the Catholic Church being vague on the issue of abortion (those are not her exact words, the jist of it). Anyway, immediately one of the Catholic Church hierarchy said there was nothing vague about the stand of the Catholic Church (and printed what the stand is) and said if a Catholic supported abortion they should not take Communion. It was mentioned again in Denver when someone asked the Archbishop of Denver about it, as Joe Biden does profess to be Catholic, and the Archbishop said that the Catholic Church believes abortion to be wrong and he would speak to Mr. Biden personally. Bottom line, the Catholic Church defines life begins at conception, they are against abortion, and these Catholic higher-ups are saying that if you publically support abortion you should not take Communion. If you Google Pelosi abortion catholic church you can find a lot of it.

I am not Catholic, by the way. Just answering the question. So I can't get into a shouting match with people about what the Catholic church believes or what they should or should not do. I do agree with them, however, that life begins at conception.

And with that, I will finish.

So I guess what the article meant was that the last thing the Obama campaign wants to have to answer is abortion questions when his veep is catholic and the speaker of the house is catholic and they are being spanked by the church over abortion stance? That would be my take on it. I guess now we will see if Biden will throw his catholicism under the bus too?
Here's a funny (and quieter) version:
Maybe the commercials should all be done by mimes, as well.  Then you wouldn't have to hit "MUTE" on your remote every time one of them came on TV.  And it might even be interesting!
Reader's Digest version....
where do you think the dirt on Joe came from? a background check instigated by the governor of Ohio. Which tramples all over Joe's civil rights.

Now let's make that pertinent to you. If YOU went to a John McCain rally and placed yourself at a rope line for the sole purpose of asking a "hard" question...and you did ask the hard question...which he answered...and then his answer was not becoming so to do damage control the governor of the state launched a background check of you and made all the information from that public...would YOU not be angry and sue? I darned sure would. As big as liberals are on civil rights, and the ACLU is not in sight, and you certainly aren't defending Joe's civil rights either are you?

I guess that only matters to you when a liberal's civil rights are violated?
sorry came out off center. Fixed version.
I decided to post this at the top since things get lost in the shuffle so quickly here.

Right now there are single, low income mothers (and fathers I would assume) who by the time they get the earned income credit and claim head of household do not owe taxes and actually get back more than they paid in to begin with. So why haven't you been carrying on about that all along? (And when people without children are contributing to this with their tax money, why isn't that considered socialism?)

I don't get all the chaos over this issue.

Your version of the truth is skewed.
The Lebanese militia executed the people in the camps, though Israel took the blame for it. Why don't you go whine about the Lebanese, instead of transposing all your vitriol on Israel? Like most of the world, you seem to have given the Lebanese Phalangists a free pass. If you were so 'outraged' about S&S, why don't you actually hold the people who did the killing accountable?

Or are you unsure of the difference between Israel and Lebanon?

And isn't it odd that hardly anyone in the Arab world gave a rip about Sabra and Shatila? While in Israel there were protests and the Israeli government itself conducted an inquiry. (Which proved that, at most, we were only guilty of not forseeing the potential for the LEBANESE MILITARY to do what they did.)

And 3000 is ridiculous. The Lebanese reports were 450 or something, and the Israeli inquest reported 800 (of which I think 35 were non-soldiers). But it sounds better for your propaganda to make it THOUSANDS, so knock yourself out.

And let's not forget that the S&S massacre, by the Lebanese militia, was in retaliation for the murder of the president of Lebanon. Once again, the Pakistani brought wrath down on themselves and then claimed to be the victims.

And I noticed you didn't mention the ྑ attacks on Palestinian refugee camps.

Why? Oh, I know.

Because those were carried out by Muslims, and that just doesn't suit your cause, does it? So the PLO (Palestinias!) can massacre 2000 people and you're fine with that.

But Israel defends itself by returning fire on the Palestinian enemy and you condemn them.

Curious, don't you think?

nope not referring...but Bob's version is better.........NM

Loved the "TV guide" version
Thanks for the countdown to Hillary's speech. Put some comedy into this which is what is needed. I also loved the other post that said a whole Xanax affords you a 2-hour nap. I'm gonna have to get me some of that.

I have learned a few things during this "race". Hillary is driven by power and greed and she won't stop at anything. I've never liked her. Well actually I used to like her when she and Bill were campaigning before he was elected the first time, and I liked her for about a month after she became first lady. Then her true self started to come out and DH and I would be mystified saying, wait a minute...this is not the same lady. I also heard that whenever they hosted dinners at the white house they would tell everyone to be there at a certain time and then they would purposely wait one hour and have everyone gather at the bottom of the steps so they could make their grand entrance for everyone to watch. They seemed to forget they were living in America and the were the president and first lady, not living in England being the King and Queen. So looks like her attitude hasn't changed much. Hillary has always been after uniting the world into a one-world government (or at least Mexico, US & Canada being one country) with her being the leader. Nothing less. I never expected her to end her campaign. After all you never know when such tragedy will hit and she needs to be standing there ready to sleeze in. In the beginning I listened to her because I wanted to know what her plans were if she were to be elected, and it seemed to be more of the same socialist programs she has been trying to pass since being first lady. So I have learned the best way to avoid the stress of listening to her drone on is to hit the mute button as soon as her face "graces" my TV. Now I'm pretty good and can usually hit the channel changer first before a sound from her is even uttered.

Anyway...loved your post. and yes, grilled peach salad doesn't sound too good.
