for the people who did. That's what I like and respect about him. It's too bad that people like this exist. I think the candidate have their hands full enough with issues without having to deal with something like this now. I hope they find the people who did it and cut off their hands or give them a labotomy or something.

You're right....words are just words...so are Obama's...
...and don't/won't mean anything to many people, myself included.

He is no MLK.

It is a historic moment, of that I have no doubt. And yes, he has come far.

However, one still needs to have strength of character to back the words up for true meaning, and he is sadly lacking in that area.

or in other words, "Greed is NOT good".
nm
Not worth wasting perfectly good words on.
xx
Nothing but words hon, and we know how Obama's words
nm
in other words seeing someone as all bad or all good is not an indicator of high intelligence. Bewa
Now apply that to all the Bush bashers, McCain bashers, and Sarah Palin bashers on this board. I agree, sim!! Oh boy do I agree!! LOL.
All of which are Obama's own words....nm
x
Because those were Obama's own words (sm)

By his own words Obama said he was a Muslim - and
Yes, Obama has been telling people he is a Christian, but he is (or was) a Muslim. You all think its wrong to be a Muslim, yet you have no idea on what a Muslim is (only what is told to you in your buildings you visit each week to get your weekly dose of brainshwashing).

You contradicted yourself when you said Obama is a Christian and supports equal rights, then turned around and said the Christians are the gay haters. So which is it, do they support equal right for gay people or are they the gay haters.

Lastly Obama is telling you he is a Christian because that's what most Americans want for President. The fact of the matter is he was raised in a Muslim family and studied in a Muslim school (then he went to a non-muslim school after that, but he originally went to a muslim school). He even said himself by his own words he is a Muslim. I know a lot of you will say "oh that, that was just a mistake. A slip of the tongue". Ask yourselves this....do middle eastern muslims slip and say "my christian faith"? No! This was no slip of the tongue.

BTW - I am pagan. Used to be a christian but then I woke up and wanted to learn the truth and not just follow what the carpet-layer guy posing as a minister was telling everyone.
Obama's words in his own book
Not trashy words, unless you think his book is trash?  It was a great way to sell out his own grandma, wasn't it?
wow that's harsh.
zx
Wow, that is HARSH......
calling someone a waste of oxygen? Look, President Bush and I disagree on a lot of issues...but the veto is as much the Dems in Congress' fault as it is Bush's. He did not veto the program, he vetoed expanding it to the tune of 6 billion dollars. I don't know about you, but 30-40% off the top of our gross income is ENOUGH already. Why NOT give businesses a tax cut to provide insurance to employees at a lower cost than now, and why not give individuals a tax cut for premiums so they can afford their own insurance? Why on EARTH tax us more? I agree with what you said about prioritization, and I have posted on this board ad nauseam that I felt they should prioritize social programs' money and kids' insurance should come FIRST. Not a SINGLE person agreed with that. You are the FIRST one to say that also. Do you know what they meant by "expansion?" The Dems want to open it up to illegals' kids in a LEGAL way, even though it is already clogged with illegals as it stands, taking money and benefits that should go to American children. That is one of the reasons it was vetoed. Another reason it was vetoed is that it expands coverage to a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids) making $80,000 a year. I'm sorry, but that is NOT low income. I'm sorry again, but I don't see why a family making $80,000 a year cannot afford to insure their children. I say give them a tax cut so there is a benefit to spending the money to insure their children. But, you say tax cut to a Democrat and they go ape-crazy.

I mean, let's get real. Are they going to expand the program again in 5 years to family of 4 making $120 a year because THEY can't pay for kids' insurance because they are being taxed to death? We really, really, REALLY have to stop entitlement, tax, entitlement, tax, entitlement tax....before ALL of us have to have entitlements to PAY the taxes!!!

Bush (and again, I don't agree with him on everything, and a true conservative he is NOT), practically begged the Dems not to do it this way, tried his best to get them to compromise, and they would have nothing of it. He asked that they extend the program as-is, with all the children covered who have been covered for the last 10 years the program has been in existence, while they worked out a better compromise. But they would have NOTHING of it. Sorry, but I cannot lay the blame for this at Bush's feet. I think Congress has to bear the burden as well. He has been telling them all along he would veto it, but rather than compromise and get most of what they wanted but not ALL, they chose to send him a bill they knew he would veto. If brains were dynamite they couldn't collectively blow their own noses. But...I stop short of calling them a "waste of oxygen." Jerks, YES, but not a waste of oxygen.
Read Obama's two books, his own words...
and then come and tell us he is not a socialist leaning heavily toward Marxism...with a straight face. Just admit it, you know he is a socalist, leaning Marxist, and you don't care. Be honest with us and yourself.

The first time either Obama or Biden have to face other than softball questions and they run under the porch whining.

Whether or not someone leans Marxist is a valid question. That neither one of them has answered. Obama KNOWS what he is. He just doesn't want YOU to know what he is.
I agree with that. It is too harsh a...
sentence, especially since the guy was a drug smuggler and only had a wound to the rear-end. That is why I am now leaning to a pardon....but why am I thinking there will be some nutjob judge who will actually grant that illegal compensation from the US govt (he is suing). THAT is what I mean that illegals should have no legal standing in this country. Period. SIGH.
She can be harsh, but she tells it like it is.
nm
I answered you, sam. You are putting words in Obama's mouth
show me where O said he would give rebates to people w/o income and show me where he said they would get a tax break. This question has been answered already. Read the previous post BEFORE you throw out another dodge to my still unanswered question about progressive tax system being socialist, the rebate and your outlandish claims about what you think Obama said.
Well...here is a harsh dose of reality....
yes, he said that...however...he was also endorsed by terrorists (Hamas) and Iran...that in and of itself should be concerning. Why do you think they said that? Perhaps because he also said that if the winds turn ugly, he would stand with the Muslims, and they took him literally? Or perhaps he meant it literally? Who knows what he really means? He lived his way one life up until he ran for President, and then turned away from all that as each issue was brought up, because he knew it would hurt his candidacy. So who IS the real Barack Obama? Do YOU know? That is not dark and foreboding. It is being vigilant, it is asking for trust and respect to be earned...adoration is fine, but please be vigilant as well. For YOUR own good.
Ann can be harsh, but she is so smart and tells
nm
Little harsh, Bradley, but I agree with the tax issue,

Obama Plan Jeopardizes Thousands of Coal Jobs/his words

Obama Plan Jeopardizes Thousands of Coal Jobs

Fred Jackson - OneNewsNow.com - 11/3/2008 7:35:00 AM

The nation's coal industry is in shock today with word that Barack Obama plans to put such severe penalties on coal-fired power plants that it will bankrupt them. A coalition of business leaders says such a move would jeopardize the jobs of hundreds of thousands of people who work in the coal industry.

Senator Obama's plan for putting severe financial penalties on coal-fired power plants has been made public on a YouTube video which contains audio of comments he made in San Francisco in January 2008.

"What I've said is that we would put a cap-and-trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there," the Democratic presidential candidate said. "I was the first to call for a hundred-percent auction on the cap-and-trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases that was emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted-down caps that are imposed every year.

"So if somebody wants to build a coal power plant, they can," Obama concluded. "It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greeenhouse gas that's being emitted."

A press release from the Western Business Roundtable is calling on politicians of all stripes to denounce such a plan, and encouraging voters to hold those politicans accountable for whether they support the coal industry.

Those types of words are unnecessary and actually ARE racist words. sm
Those types of phrases are offensive and are intended to be offensive. This election should not be about race. If it is about race for you, then you are probably one of the ignorant people using those words. Very rude!!
It was definitely good for a laugh! I Obama's got

Good for him! Kudos to Mr. Obama!

That would be a good question for Obama
since he's the one who referenced them in his reply.  I'd just call them terrorists.  No distinction.

Why Obama's speeches are good
Obama has better speech writers. That's it. While I give Obama credit for giving excellent speeches, you also have to know he does not write them himself. He is an excellent presenter and public speaker. Probably due to his years in law, where you have to be an excellent speaker.

The difference between Obama and Bush (imho) is that Bush is not a good speaker. It's the tone of the voice. Obama has a good strong, deep, calming voice (he'd be great in an emergency situation trying to calm someone down), however, he does not write his own speeches, he just presents them.

Also he depends too much on the teleprompter and not enough time reviewing the speeches before hand. I don't know if he is so busy and has himself spread so thin (what with going on all the TV shows - which by the way is just wrong, do we have a President here or a celebrity making the round on the local TV shows), but he really should spend some quality time reading the speeches. As we saw with the huge error when he was giving a speech and someone put the wrong speech up on the teleprompter and he was reading the other countries leader's speech instead of his own and he didn't even realize it, even when he was praising himself up and down.
Good for Fox News...they refused to run an ad against Obama...

put together by a private citizen (not the McCain campaign), the same guy who was behind the swift boat ads against Kerry.  They could have run it and they chose not to.  Good for them!  I admit, there is cause for concern about Obama's connection to Ayers, but that kind of ad where it is mean accusation and innuendo with no real proof shouldn't be run, in my opinion.  Good for them for stepping up.

Good post! I was very pro-Obama in the beginning (sm)
of the race.  But he does have me feeling more and more scared of what will happen if he is elected.  Thank you so much for being so clear.
The only good thing about Obama being elected
would be that in four years, we can vote him back out. I'm with you, sm, less government, less government spending.
Good thing Obama talked to them
all nice and friendly like.  So much for kissing their back sides Mr. President.  Maybe he should send them an iPod.
It's a good thing Obama promised

not to sign any bills with pork in it....oh wait.....he lied about that and signed it anyway, didn't he?

Yeah...good thing she isn't debating Obama...

Good question.-and it ISNT fair. Notice how Obama
nm
McCain did state to everyone that Obama is a good person and not someone to be feared (sm)
Maybe he didn't mention race specifically because he did not want to further add to this being a race-based election? At least he stood up and said something to defend Obama in that respect. But if people were saying McCain was the Messiah, we would expect him to be man enough to stand up and say that he is not. That is the point here.
Well...if it puts Obama in a good light, it is probably owned by George Soros. nm

Totally digging the food safety overhaul - no more downed cows. Good job Obama! sm

I didn't vote for Obama, I was one of those on the fencers.  But I must say one thing I am impressed with so far is his complete overhaul of the US food safety system and the new rule of no downed cows being put into our food system.

Some things should just be common sense, and they weren't being implemented.  Good job Obama!

Good post....truth doesn't always sound good

Just a few words
For you to even think something like that shows you have it in your brain.  I would never post some of the derogatory posts you and your friends from the conservative board have posted to me and to others.  Does it bother you that much that I post strong opinions and refuse to be cowed by nasty responses?  I have thick skin and I can roll with the punches.  Seems to me every time I post you and your friends just have to respond, no matter what I post.  By you responding so forcefully shows you are threatened by my ideology and the bigger picture, the liberal/democratic ideology.  Be happy with your beliefs and espouse them but stop attacking people for their beliefs..In other words, chill out..you will do your heart a favor.  This is a free country, my opinions are mine and I will continue to have them.  Nothing you say will change my beliefs..so dont waste your time trying..I also must say, if you want to talk about people sounding like lunatics, re-read some of the conservative posts.  A few profess to never attack or call names, yeah right, there is so much back biting and name calling on that board..but hey, its fair game when you are dealing with politics.  they are all just words, nothing more.  My bigger quest is to help turn this country around to the country I knew and loved through grass roots politics, belonging to the local democratic party and making sure the right ones get in mid year elections and in three years.  This is just a politics board, LOL, nothing that gets my blood pressure elevated, that is for sure..The majority of Americans feel we are headed down the wrong track and our priorities are wrong.  The latest poll shows the people losing faith and trust in Bush and his credibility is going down.  The majority think Iraq was a mistake and worry that attacking Iraq made us less secure and more prone to attacks.  Seems to me my opinions and those of most that post on the liberal board (save for the few conservatives who post here to attack and disrupt) are in the mainstream of American thought, fears and concerns. Now, I would hope the attacks will stop, as I will not respond to them anymore.  If you want to debate, post the debate and Im sure many will join in but no one wants to be part of a board where crazy accusations such as you and yours have been posting about me keep getting posted.
Yes, among other words. NM

These were your words.

Still on this board!!!  Tell me how what you said below is the same as:

As far as Iraq, of course, you twisted that all out of context.  Lurker asked if I would go to Iraq to help rebuild and I said yes, if I could I would, but please don't tell the truth and continue to twist because you are twisted.

Yes, I will join. I was there once, I will go again. No problem at all. NM

HER words (yet again):

Yes, I will join. I was there once, I will go again. No problem at all.

Not *would* join.... WILL JOIN.  WILL GO AGAIN.  WILL, WILL, WILL, WILL, WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those who believe in telling the truth can easily see the distortion.

The key words are

*announced* and *Bin Laden.*

Clinton announced to AMERICANS that he was specifically targeting Bin Laden.  Remember him?  HE was the guy responsible for 9/11, and HE is the guy that Bush ignored to instead invade Iraq.

Clinton wasn't targeting average Americans who are trying to pay off their J. C. Penney bills, and Clinton never used intimidating tactics towards American citizens.

Bush doesn't know how to do anything BUT use secrets, intimidation and fear tactics.

Words
Please don't put words in my mouth. I never said I would choose to have an abortion, or choose to end life (which to me, are still 2 different things). I said that I believe in choice.
I have two words for you. SM
Walid Shoebat.  I am willing to bet he knows way more than your professor about the Middle East and he doesn't agree with either one of you.
Wow! In her own words no less. I do not want any
.
Two words
There is a word spelled choose and a word spelled chose. They certainly are confused a lot these days.

Choose is present tense and chose is past tense. They are pronounced differently.

I'm not picking on the poster; just making a general observation about a term many people misuse.
what a way with words . . .

guffaw.

WOW, you use BIG words, just like O!
I am so happy for you!
