one or two other times a month, never excessive like a certain company that is rah-rah'd on here. No problem with communication in the two years I have been with them!

Gheesh! Some people have something to complain about no matter what, surprised if even a Keystroke's employee. It is easy to form an opinion when only a handful of employees post here.

I personally prefer Medical Language Specialist...
Even the title medical transcriber doesn't do justice to our jobs with the way they have evolved over the years. We no longer can sit and simply be transcribers. We must be semi-fluent in several different languages, do our best to hone our psychic skills so we don't get penalized for leaving a blank for QA to assist with, we have to perform feats of magic at times attempting to find an ADT match, and the list goes on and on.

Geez, maybe we should just call ourselves *medical magicians* at this point what with all the rabbits we're expected to pull from the many hats we're forced to wear these days.
I personally know of one MT who left, but came back after...
approximately 5 months of working for another national.  She's been back for a few months and it's going well.
Personally, I'd rather be left in the dark than to be bugged to death every
//
I prefer to be off a day during the week so I prefer a Tues-Sat schedule. nm
nm
I hear ya, that's why I left. Well, also the offshore issue
It has turned out to be a wonderful change. Talk about 100% difference. It's really amazing such a company exists.

Instead of email, I will just direct you to the job seeker's board. You will find them second from the top. Everyone told me I wouldn't regret making the move and I haven't.

I didn't want to do the whole application/testing thing again, but I couldn't stay at OSi any longer. The line count still really burns me up. OSi gave me all kinds of excuses, but it still didn't add up. I was at 9 cpl but actually was probably only making about 6. Both companies also use iChart. I now actually get paid for what I type.
Did any of us who left emails hear back from the MT who was highly recommending her
s
I earned more doing MT work but I prefer QA
because I love it. I enjoy the mentoring aspect plus MT took its toll on my bones and I absolutely could not do it anymore if I wanted to because of that.
I work Sun-Thurs and prefer it. sm
My activities are usually on Friday and Saturday and this schedule works out great for me. What if you rotated weekends and just happened to have plans on the weekend you were scheduled to work and then nobody would trade with you? That would suck. This way I'm always off or if there is work available, I will work especially in winter. Would also prefer to work Thanksgiving and Christmas and have the summer holidays off. But that's just me.
As an IC, I prefer pool work.
I have done pool work and been assigned docs and I prefer working a pool. When I was assigned docs, my lines varied so much. I never knew how much I was going to get each day. Some days I would get over 1500 lines, some days only 500. It made it very hard to plan my day as I never knew how long I was going to have to work. I never made enough money, yet I found it hard to work a second job as some weeks I would be loaded down with work from company 1 and not have time to work my commited lines for company 2, yet the following week I would get very few lines. Working a pool, I know I can get in at least 1000 lines a day every day (rarely have issues on my account with not enough work and usually do anywhere from 1500-2200). I don't have to guess how much I am going to make that day as I am in control of how many lines I take versus someone else sending the work.

Also, as soon as I get up, I can start working (like to start my day around 4 a.m. and be done around noon). I don't have to sit around wondering when my reports are going to be sent to me and waste half the day waiting when the company decides to send them at 4 p.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m.

Also, when only assigned 1 or 2 docs, if they take vacation, you are typically out of work for a week or two with little to no notice (at least in my experience). With a pool, you don't have that problem. If a doc goes on vacation, you have plenty of others to transcribe for. I also tend to get bored easily, so I prefer transcribing for multiple docs. I transcribe for about 15 docs now and I am very familiar with each of them and can transcribe over 250 lph. This would be different though if I was transcribing acute care and had 100+ docs though. But in that instance, pool work is better as it makes TAT faster.

Guess it is good that each company does it different so we can each find what works for us.
AMEN! I too prefer to just work sm
and let the crap be handled by somebody else. I have been there done that as they say. The MTs who think the MTSOs have it so easy, no problems, raking in money and cashing the check and usually the same MTs who care about nothing but how much they can put out an hour and quality and patient care be d_____d! If they really understood the business they couldn't even come up with these crazy ideas!
Oops! That s/b I prefer home based work.

I work in Meditech for KS and am VERY happy. I average 300+ lph. I prefer it as sm
it is like WP5.1, which I loved. To each his own.

There are also two types of Meditech, Magic with is like WP5.1 and Client, which is a Word-based program.
As a shift lead I made $15 an hour, but did QA plus lead duties...
I also worked terrible hours with no differential for them. I think it just matters on the company.
1200 lines daily is great if you have the work, personally, I never had enough work so
I left and have NEVER been sorry!
Bad Platform. I personally know of 3 MTs who left because of the platform.
If you are like me, the bottom line is wages and what I get in my check. I have never worked for Amphion, but I personally know of 3 MTs who worked part-time at Amphion before quitting their other service to see what Amphion had to offer before it was too late. All 3 quit Amphion and stayed with their other service because of the Amphion platform. Too hard to make any decent lines.

Something to think about.

Here is one post from a couple days back:

To all of us trying our hardest to grab our work when it is available, and then still only make 24 bucks a day because of the garbage platform.

I work FT for KS and PT for another company too. My lead sm
knows this, as does the coordinator. It is OK.
You need to talk to your lead or to HR because there is work out there. sm
The account I have been on for 4 years has been slow but they rearranged us all so that everyone has enough work and 2 people were put on other accounts. They will work with you; you just need to talk to them.

If you are getting fussed qat by QA, perhaps there is work but there is something else going on. If you are not meeting 98% or better accuracy, they will cut your workload. Find out if that is the problem and maybe ask for a different account if the one you are on is too difficult. They have plenty, unlike most of the companies you read about here. Oh, and they have not cut our rates, lost accounts and have a few new ones. Glad I picked KS over WMX and plan on staying!
Personally I like DSG. I work for them and MQ sm
I know there are people out there who disagree but if you work when you are supposed to and do what you tell them you will, then they don't bother you.  I like them.  Pay is decent.
Personally, I would never work for a
company where I had to pay if certain conditions were not met. What if there is no work and you are short your lines. I would look elsewhere.
Advice: Go over your lead. Go to the next person up. There is work there. sm
I would call the office and talk to Karyn or Becky. Your lead might not be conveying the message for some reason. Sometimes they are too busy, sometimes they don't want to share someone. Just call. That's the only way to make it happen, and you will be glad you did!
Personally, I wouldn't work for them if *sm*
you do have it correct and they do not pay you for an evaluation period. Any work you do for them at all should be paid for. This company just gives me a bad feeling anyway, based on the posts from when they first opened up and started advertising online for help. At that point they weren't paying more than like 0.06 per line. I think maybe you can still find some information over on MTChat.com about them from that time period. I also remember a few posts on here about NSF checks a while back.

I used to work with her at another company. I wish her well. I personally did not sm
care for her or her theatrics but would not wish chemo on anyone. I hope she has a speedy and full recovery.
do you personally work for this company?

If so, and if it is SOOOOO bad, GET A NEW ONE

W A K E    U P

Do they leave you alone to work? I personally
would rather be left alone instead of bothered all day with phone calls, etc.
I work for Shapin as lead QA and absolutely LOVE my job..sm
The owner is the most fair employer Ii have ever had!! She is kind to personal situations. She will help you out any way she can. I make really, really good money working for her. She is looking for more editors, as the company is growing a great deal. If you want more info, please feel free to contact me at MaryC_RI285@msn.com.
I'd ask your team lead. She would know but I will tell you that we're already out of work toda
guess everyone wanted the bonus. I find it sad that we'll get back logged because no one wants to work a regular schedule, yet come a holiday bonus, and everyone is obviously working. It's too bad we couldnt have that bonus rate as a standard. You'd see a lot more motivated people in this business. Most of us are burned out on pounding the keyboard all day and gain so little. I guess so much for a holiday bonus when there is no work. Kind of defeats the purpose..Oh well...I'm vented for today.
Try Keystrokes for ortho. Lots of work. The lead is the best I have ever had. sm
I have two doctors that I am responsible for and love having them assigned because I know what they are going to say before they say it. She is a stickler for reliability and quality, but if you are a good MT, you will love it!
Based on what...do you say that I will be out of work? Have you personally experienced this?
As for meaning and substance, the words speak for themselves. If you are not sure what they mean, Webster's is always helpful.
Not personally, but seen this happen to a few when I used to work in HR at a bank - sm
Sorry you are going through this.  I know when I worked in HR at a bank we absolutely would not consider anyone no matter how nice their resume if they had filed for bankruptcy or even had a bill more than 30 days late.  You may want to consider another alternative.  Best wishes to you.
I personally can't sit for 4 hours at a time. I work 2 hous, sign off and take a short break.

It might just be fixing something to drink or starting a load of laundry.  If you did something like that then you wouldn't have to worry about a disconnect and possibly losing a report.

? for any lead at Keystrokes. What does a lead do?

Do they do QA, mentor, or ....?

You can e-mail me privately if you like.

Some of us choose neither to lead, nor be lead!
I guess I just don't have that 'pack mentality'.
I actually left about a year ago and work for another company that's running out of work. Have to
x
Much good work going to India. Bad work left
xx
I hear you can't get enough work
with accuscribe.
I don't work for TT but when I left my former job I
was hired over the phone with the new company on my first phone interview with them. Companies do not always test if you have the experience and they can tell that you know your stuff when they talk to you.
I left for no work. There is work on some accounts, but NO
work on other accounts.
Thank you! I am glad to hear that there is clinic work with SM

Great company and I hear that work will
soon be picking up. I was hired recently, too, and I am willing to wait on some more work just to have the nice people to work for. Also, they pay half of the social security tax, not half of your taxes. But compared to IC deductions, that is a big help.
Sten-Tel...any QAs here work there? If so, how is it? I'd be happy to hear from ya:D nm
nm
I left MQ and went to work for them. I am level 8 SM
and on an account with lots of ESLs and started out doing DS which for me, not very productive. I put in my 2 weeks notice, and told my team leader why.
I left last year because the work kept
running out. Sorry to hear that the situation hasn't improved--looks like I did the right thing. Oh well...
What work will be left? N-D getting new accounts?
x
Yes, I can't afford to have no work so I left TT
I dislike the turn of events as they were my favorite company. I have nothing bad to say about TT. I simply got another job.
Sure, but what kind of work is left . sm
for straight typing?  VR rejects? 99% ESL and 100% crap?  At this point in time, there doesn't seem to be any reason for the VR MTs to envy the straight typers.
Anybody work for PMSI? Would love to hear your experience.
xxxxx
She left OSi to work for MedWare as an editor. (nm)
(nm)
If even that much work left, and hopefully they will be able to afford aspirin. (nm)
zzzzzzs
I left due to no work for 2 months and they were STILL hiring
when that was going on.  I would stay clear for a while unless you can survive off of 200 lines per day and want to work 24/7 and fight over the lines as they come in.
I left there as they were always running out of work from overhiring.

Are there any companies left that do not work on platforms?
I have five years' experience but have never worked on a platform before.  I have worked straight out of my own version of Microsoft Word and am nervous about my productivity with learning a new platform.  Can you still use Expanders with platforms?  Any info would be helpful. Thanks.
