A company full of people on a power trip!

Posted By: Your statement says it all on 2006-07-15
In Reply to: OSi for sure!! (sm) - Are they still in business

Absolutely correct, as well as the fact that most people who move up in that company are totally unqualified butt-kissers.

Yep.

FN is a great company full of wonderful people who treat you with respect. SM.
But they only want to pay 4.5 cpl for SR, 5.5 for heme/onc. Can you believe that? Also, workload has been very, very low for a very long time.
I think it is all nearly full-time people now..they may have (sm)
a few people working part-time but I'm not sure.
This board is full of nasty , angry, bitter people. Why? sm
With this economic crisis that the entire world is under, we still have jobs that are fairly secure. We have jobs that pay more than minimum wage. We have benefits, unless IC status. We have good work environments, do not have the risk of losing an arm, leg or life in a piece of machinary or being blown up in a mine.

Yes, there are companies that do not pay. Yes, there are companies that do not pay more than 6 cpl, but we have a CHOICE on who to work for. Don't work for them. There are plenty of good companies that treat their employees well.

Christmas bonus? My husband was laid off last week from a job he has had for 27 years. That was his bonus.

Unemployment is at record highs, prices are at record highs and it does not seem to have an end in sight for many years.

Perhaps a depression would show Americans that nothing is free and people would stop standing with their hands out all the time.

As a society, we have come to expect everything to be handed to us. As a transcription professional, it is disheartening to see all the angry, bitter, hateful posts here all the time.

Transcription companies face the same rising costs as every other company out there and I am sure they feel the crunch too, but they are not telling this every second like other industries.

I am not an MTSO, not a manager, not a troll. I am just an MT who is grateful for her job and skills that will allow her family to survive this crisis without scars.
As below, they do to full time people making 900 dollars per pay period. nm
nm
is WMX an abbrevation or full name of company? sm
I can't find their website. Thanks for the posting!!
Full-time MTs, what LD company do you use for work (if LD is required, of course) ?
nm
I was the *half full* type until my company laid me off.
They said identical things as this DRC acquisition. They told us to just keep working as usual and do your best. Three months later (after the Indians had proper training on our accounts), they laid off the whole US MT force. The particular account I was on DID NOT want their dictations outsourced overseas but this happened anyway until this account caught wind and eventually left. These things do happen out there, and all of these people have the right to feel skeptical. These Indian company takeovers happen more often than not. We MTs need to be less naive about things and more weary to protect our occupation.
Full Circle Transcription in Acworth, GA. Does anyone know who owns this company? SM
Please email me if you do.  I may like to contact them and would just like to know ahead of time whom I'll be emailing.
I used Apex with another company and it was awful. I'd do a full page of transcription and it'
out to be like 30 lines. There is no way. I quit after 2 days. I felt like the reports were easy but I was not working all day for $6 an hour.
Sounds like a company I worked for. I did get paid in full but I sure know how you feel!

Can you post or email me just the initials of company and I'll let you know if this is the same one.  It has happended to me by more than one company in my time as an MT

I agree, if you went to work knowing full well that the company paid 7 cpl no spaces
why on Earth did you accept the job?
RadGuy...you are a trip! sm
Thanks for the humor.
Business trip?
Why would management go to Vegas on a business trip if Dictaphone makes all the business deals?
But if we can slow it down or trip it up, then
NO way of knowing each MT's life circumstances, or why one may wait for work and another might bail. More things come into play here than 'just being responsible for yourself'. Some of these MTs are responsible for the rest of their family, and are the sole breadwinners. They know how expensive it is to just change jobs. Ever hear that old saying, 'A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush?' For some of us, waiting for what WAS a good-paying job to get better, afer it appears to have slipped a bit, was the wiser way to go. In the future, having read about this issue on MT Stars this past week, I would venture a guess that not many MTs are going to fall for this lie again.

I'm in a similar, though different boat. I, too am looking, but I've jumped from the frying pan into the fire enough times in my life that for now, anyway, I'm better off with my current job and a small paycheck, than I am signing on with another big company at this time. ESPECIALLY since so many ex-MDI'ers are now going to be looking, as well. I'm my sole support, and it would be dumb of me to make a move like that without thinking it through.

So you can't just sit there in your own, obviously-satisfactory situation, and tell everyone they should be just like you. Not everyone IS you. Not everyone has the luxury (nor the impulsiveness) to just bail at the first sign of a blip in the workload. It happens sometimes, in ALL corners of MT. When I read their posts about lack of work, because it happened just as summer was getting underway, I assumed it was the usual summer slowdown I see at my own job. SO you can't go saying these MTs are wrong to blame someone other than themselves. They, like most of the rest of us, are hard-working MTs who were lucky enough, for a while, to have a company they actually felt some loyalty to.

Your post was self-righteous and rude.
You guys are a trip--I never said management...

posts ALL of the positive posts.  What I said was that they do post at times.  My God--why does people have to be so confrontational.  I posted what I know and believe happens SOMETIMES, not every time.  Get it??  There is a difference.  Everyone needs to stop judging people for their experiences.  Like I said before, I enjoy my job at Transcend for the most part, but I do believe that management screens this board very carefully, which (like I said before) is a good thing.  At least they know where we are coming from.

IMO, trip to trade show sure not worth having to
nm
Don't cash it at your bank; make the trip to THEIRS
THEIR account will be charged, not yours.
The recruiter has to recover from the Hawaii trip. So exhausting! nm

I usually shoot off an e-mail when I have to make a quick trip
unless it will take longer than 10 mins or so.  I live in a small town so nothing takes much more than 10 mins!  They have NEVER micromanaged me and I highly doubt they will ever start unless I start to become some sort of slacker, which I won't.
Never have I seen such abuse of power
the ones who cake walked into their positions of power don't know what to do with it, there only about 2 really good account coordinators and QA forget that, it is all messed up
power hungry
Couldn't agree more, they don't want any communication going on but through them, because they want to be in charge, probably the reason for the breakdown in communication. No input is ever asked and in fact you are just downright steamrolled over. Everything hush hush, goes on in every company I have ever worked for. Don't know how these folks manage to get themselves to the top, they are the most incompetent idiots I have ever seen in most cases. Must be doing a lot of dusting under the executive desk, way down under.teehee
What power? QA has no real say sm
over whether anyone keeps a job or not.  Your work is either correct or it isn't.  If there are no errors, then QA can't really pick at you, can they?
because Uncle has all the power
and we do not! like it or not, right or wrong. It is illegal to not report the income. I don't guess I'd be making it public knowledge that I did that or was trying to find a way to do that. The fines/ penalties can be expensive. And afterwards, you can bet the IRS has your returns under a microscope.
The Power of ADHI

IMO, is next to nil.  They are not who decides that certification is a requirement.  The industry would have to be on board with that.  Since the MT industry can't agree on what a line is, what an MT is, how payment should be rendered, etc, and since it's heavily impacted by the dollar, it's not likely that you will see mandatory certification any time soon.

Health Information Technology positions will often request certification by AHIMA.  It has taken AHIMA a long time to get where they are and ADHI is still years behind.

I have another profession and yes, for the most part, all fees including continuing education, as well as certifications fall to me.  There are some employers who will reimburse or pay up front, however.

Look at how many ads REQUIRE CMT.  And ask the question, who has not been hired because they didn't have it.

IMO, certification of offshore personnel is going to be designed to placate possible purchasers of those services by certifying legitimacy.  You are more likely to find offshore certification required well before you see it here. (Which is unfortunate because there are many US MTs whose skills are severely lacking just as much as some offshore MTs.)

Maybe you don't have the brain power...Or,
Ever consider those possibilities, hun?

Food for thought, anyway.
Knowledge is power!

I just wanted to thank you all for sharing.  Every opinion and every point of view are valuable.  The truth really will set us free --eventually.

Business trip to Vegas makes absolute sense
I agree  with the above poster.  Management told us in an e-mail that the new accounts coming aboard were clients who pursued TT.  Being that TT has a major account in Las Vegas,  ... now another potential client in the same area.  I have seen this happen many times with services I have worked for.  It is called word of mouth and not that unusual to get clients this way.
thats what ya call girl power!!!
z
like I said below major abuse of power
only 2 account coordinators worth their salt, if they cake walked into their position they are on a power trip and don't know what in beans they are doing, QA is just a mess that is pathetic esp. the upper crust there.
The MTSO has no bargaining power with the

on a net 30 day basis.  If you are lucky they pay sooner but there is nothing that forces them to do that.  They are used to all their vendor accounts being net 30 days and that is just the way it is. That's the way the business world works.  The IC is also in business.

I think it's the MTSO who most often gets the short end of the stick.  I pay my subcontractors every other week whether I get paid or not.  My clients can (and do) take 30 days to pay me.  I still pay my subcontractors.  The clients are happy; their work is done.  The subcontractors are happy; they have been paid.  Me - my mortgage my not be paid because I had to pay my subcontractors.

I currently work for MQ and I am doing everything in my power to get away from them ASAP. sm

I have feelers out to about 5 companies right now and will be sending out another batch of resumes this week also.

Working in the cesspool has taken its toll. I am fortunate in that I do not need health/dental insurance. One of the things that has kept me at MQ was the 18 days of PTO that I earn (yes earn) a year. Unfortunately, I wind up using a lot of that to make up for being out of work, etc, so it winds up not being truly *my time off*.

I just wonder if it is best to look for an IC position and just take time off without pay or try to find a company that has a good PTO plan.

Are there any companies out there that have a good PTO plan (definitely more than 5 days off a year) and how do they calculate PTO pay?

Thanks in advance.

I figure knowledge is power
I agree with you, I believe that it is to your advantage to be a well rounded employee. But, I also know that when you are depending on this as your only source of income (luckily I do not) you want to make as much as you can and ESLs make that difficult sometimes, especially when you receive different ones all the time.

I also believe that the doctors could have a little more respect and at least TRY to enunciate. Some don't even bother.

So I guess I agree with you, but I understand everyone has different circumstances.
Didn't that TransTech email about them going to Vegas and us POOR MT's paying for that trip ju

rub us struggling MT's when she sent out that email to us.  She didn't say how many went to LV -- just bye . . . we're off!

Enjoy the light of the Dictaphone flashlight begging for a job for you, while we enjoy the lights of Vegas !

YUK !  Totally irritated this TT MT.  Sickening, in fact.

Agreed. Nothing worse than Power-Hungry QA - ugh - nm

Then quit. There are other jobs out there. Only you have the power to change your situation.

Way I read it, it give MTSO the power to snoop in

People would rather the company be (sm)
2 days behind in their work to insure work for all.  Doesn't work that way.
Company no, people yes
I don't know about the company itself, but I do know personally people who work there and they are just the kindest, nicest people you'd ever want to work with and for. No, I don't work there, mainly because there are no openings in what I do, but you shouldn't hesitate in applying.
How many people (and for what company) (sm)
actually keep a manual log of all jobs you do?
Perhaps they are the only MT's at the company. How many people
@!&
I liked the people who ran the company
General info needed, such as their general pay rates, flexibility in schedules, direct deposit, pay on time, and anything else that may be helpful.

My pay rate was 7 cpl for an easy ortho acct. I'm guessing it could range between 7 and 8 cpl, but ask and I'm sure you will get an answer. Flexibility wise, they want their work back within the agreed TAT. No direct deposit was available and I don't remember having a late pay. They give you your work and leave you alone, which is good if you don't like to be hounded. I had to give them up because of other commitments, and now work outside the house, but wouldn't hesitate to work for them again if it weren't for me working away from home.
I know 3 people in the company
the owner, Kristal and my immediate boss. I know of no others who work there- I was told when you assume it is usually wrong and this is what has happened with my being taken for an owner?/boss?/higher up? - as far as stealing, have no knowledge of things going on. It is strange the posters seem to have so much more information than me. I do my work, keep my nose to the grindstone and stay out of other's business. I happen to love my job- even after my retirement in a few months I still hope to work there. Prayers going up.
That is exactly how quick this company can get people going.
This company truely is one of the best. I feel like I am honestly part of a great family!
I see people asking what the best company is, so I am going to turn the tables here. What would sm

a company be the best.  What type of rate would you want realistically?  Benefits?  IC or employee?  Direct deposit important?  What pay schedule - weekly, every other Friday, 1st and 15th, once a month?  What makes you stay at a company?  What makes you leave?  Equipment?  Training?  QA?  Etc???

Can someone tell me what ATS stands for for the transcription company that people have
talked about.
Apparently this company takes people for a
xx
So, Yes, they were once OmniMed, meaning the same people. Thought so! BAD company! x
x
Yes, they are a decent company. Different personalites, overall good people. nm
x
in case you were not aware, some people will not work for a company who
outsources overseas. precyse does this quite heavily.

even though this board has 'flip-flopped' and now agrees with this practice, it is still driving our rates way down and has damaged our trust.

I have done two reports on individuals working with homeland security just this past week...hmmm, I wonder if they realize how vulnerable they would be having their 'vital information' shipped overseas for ANYONE to see. bet if they have a choice, their work is done here, and WHY WOULD THAT BE? Why would these people be more important than we are?
Proscript is a wonderful company, great people. nm

Second the motion.. Nice people.. Best company I have worked for.
They really care about their employees and it shows..
