Work remotely for a hospital - best deal in the industry. nm

I can't find my answer by searching...
I'm looking for opinions on:

CTS (Central Transcription Services)

and

TRX (out of Oregon and NYC)

Thanks so much in advance! Feel free to email me privately.
Stay away from Amherst, NY. Bad deal there. No holiday pay, no weekend pay, and on it goes. They
are control freaks. I unfortunately got transferred there no of my own accord.
Find a hospital. Best deal in the industry.

The MTSOs wonder why they cannot find anyone to stay (sm)

with their company when they keep over-hiring and make people go out and have to get another job.  I just don't understand it.  But MDI has been doing this for years.  It is not a new practice for them.

The the MTSOs sit there and complain because they cannot keep good, reliable transcriptionists and we end up getting the bad reputation for it.  They are creating this cycle and it is all backfiring on us.  Either we cannot pay our bills, or we become job jumpers.

Are you "perfect" enough to work for 7 cpl?

I love it!

7 cpl to start (IC with no bennies) if you have three years' veterinary ophthalmology experience and never ever make a mistake blah blah blah blah.  Whatevah.

I'm not nervous and I cannot say I have been "perfect" either.

It is hard for a person who comes from a position that allows you flex time to come to a company to where you have to work your shift.  That at one time was me. I cannot say that I have never been talked to about taking too long of a break while on the system, as I have.  But I have been with some companies who actually know when the keyboard keys are moving, who IM you all the time to see if you are there and Axolotl management has NEVER done that to me.

Have I been in a report a long time for one reason or another and asked if I was there, yes, but for good reason because the report had been in my queue a while.  It was just taking me a while to type it or I had to go to the bathroom.  You won't get fired for going to the bathroom or getting up to stretch if you need to for 5 minutes or so.

They do run it like a business and that is why they are successful.  But, they do not micro-manage every move someone makes.

Maybe if this deal loses clients, I can work out an at-home deal with one of my current accounts.
Or else get a McJob at McDonald's flipping McBurgers....
Star Stop works better than express scribe. If you want start Stop, yea it is kind of sm
expensive. I wish they did pay their QA hourly as I think they would see better quality work, but they per line and it is higher than the other person posted.

I have never had a problem with management, so I am unfamiliar with what the other person experienced with management.

Pay is always on time (most of the time early). I like the software. I guess you just have to see if it fits for you.
Stop taking these insulting wages and they will stop offering them.

Not even remotely true
In all of the research and reading I did last night, I found out that almost all of the cases that have been won by 'contractors' who are really employees were done under the presence of a signed contract.

There was a huge case with Microsoft that I read about, and another recently with FedEx. And about a thousand billion in between.

If I gave you a piece of paper that said 'done done done can take my kidney out with a rusty knife' and you signed it and gave it back, would that really protect me under the law?

If you're breaking the law, you're breaking the law - it doesn't matter what a piece of paper says.

But - that's doubly not a worry for me. They never sent me a contract (I believe in error, forgetting), and I never signed one.

In any case, please read this PDF I found off the Labor Board site if you want more of the information I have (also known as the truth and stuff).

This link, as well, was very enlightening:

That's fabulous! Do they hire remotely?! LOL ?!?!?! nm
..
I have Googled and called many, so far all have said they don't hire remotely; that's why
I am asking to see if anyone knows of any that do. I have already spent several hours looking.
Their website says the MTs work remotely. Could be local from home or far. nm
s
I think if you are working remotely during a setup would be the only time they can "monitor"
your computer and then you know about it and invite them in and then disconnect it when done with that.  Are you sure whoever is not meaning they can monitor when you are logged on or monitor your lines and work.  I think most any platform allows the company to watch those things.
Try both and see which one fits. nm

Well, if the shoe fits. :)

Did you consider that possibly they do not have anything that fits what you want or that sm
you might not fit what they want for openings they have right now?

Don't take it personally but if you are really upset about it and want to find out what the reason was, ask them. The worst they can do is not tell you, but they might give you insight into something that you are projecting or missing, something that you can correct.
Unfortunately, probably the only way you will know is by taking the job and seeing how it fits. sm

If you have a job already, if possible, do not quit until you work at the other job long enough to know that you are in a better situation.  I have read glowing reports about a company and then signed on to work and thought it stunk to high heaven, and vice versa ... have seen companies trashed that I thought were wonderful.  Each person's experience is unique.

Of course, if you read several people saying they were paid late or not at all, THAT kind of thing, I would certainly avoid that like the plague.  Although I do enjoy what I do, I cannot afford to work for free.

I work for Keystrokes and SmartMed and would be happy to recommend either one if the TTS thing does not work out for you.  Of course, the same thing goes for them -- some love them, some hate them.

Good luck!

It's really not a matter of what fits. sm

I'm not saying that Transcend's policies may not fit some MTs.  I'm saying that I have experiencing with the way they operate.  They'll tell you one thing to pacify you in a conference call and 2 weeks later the facts show the exact opposite of what was said.  For instance, Tara Goehring (Transcend recruiter) posted here in this thread that Transcend does not offshore, yet Larry said in the conference call that they do.

When asked about MDI accounts going to voice recognition, it was said that the accounts would stay the same UNLESS the client themselves wanted VR.  You can bet your bottom dollar Transcend is going to market their own propietary speech software (BeyondTXT) to the client in a way that the clients will be begging for VR.  Their press release announcing the sale was referring to the MDI accounts and said 'including the conversion of some of MDI's business to Transcend's speech recognition-enabled BeyondTXT platform.'

So it's not a matter of what fits for one may not fit for the other.  It's the fact that what is cheered in a pep rally doesn't actually match the facts when everything comes into play.  When we chose MDI as the place to work, we based that decision on certain factors that made our jobs enjoyable.  They are long gone.

Now it's clear why she fits in so well at Diskriter. LOL~~~

Maybe nothing available that fits your skills and what they are looking for. That doesn't mean
You might have come across as difficult to work with if you turned down what they were going to put you on. Maybe there was nothing available for YOU. I did recruiting for another national in the past and would never do that again because this is the most miserable group of people in the world. Jeesh. Get over yourself.
No job fits everyone. I worked there a short while (sm)
and one day got a snippety reply from a QA person I don't know what's wrong with you, most people from the company you came from love it here. Needless to say, good company or not, that one cranky remark set me off. I had worked there a week or so and of course had a couple of format issues.

I do see ads for them fairly frequently, so perhaps they aren't a good fit for everyone.

Use your own judgment, there are many good companies out there, we just have to pick around until we each find our perfect fit.

Good luck.
CPSI is giving me fits...
It's the system the hospital uses, so my MTSO has no control over it...it has either been disconnecting me or is so slow that I can't get anything done.  I have work in my cue, but I can't do it because of this problem, and now it is out of TAT.  No one's working who can fix this at this time of night either.  Of course, this is the first time it's done that.  They need to use a better system then CPSI....I always liked ChartScript.  Now it's almost the end of the work day (not even my normal work day).  Guess I'll have to keep trying.
What you describe here fits my situation to a T
I am resting this afternoon from the stress, and want to see what kind of work I can get at my regular IC job. Maybe that is where I need to stay. It is more flexible too. In my whole career at my original job they never were like that with me, I was never made to feel paranoid about bad worktypes or cherry picking. We just kept running out of work around the holidays. DH and I talked about it and maybe I need to try harder at the IC and maybe pick up something along side it. Just a couple of weeks on this other and the migraines have started and so have the worries.
You hear bad and good - it is what you make of it - if it fits your needs, try it out!
s
My usual VR fits mostly the same time frame
as yours although I have gotten 600+ before but never 800+ and I start usually at 12, started 15 minutes earlier and by 1 o'clock that is what I had. I keep my speed as fast as it will go also, you cannot make any money unless you are able to do that. I was surprised myself, first time for me and perhaps just a fluke but hey, I will take that.
Sad but true. You're asked to work NOW, then asked to stop NOW, then go again and then stop
If you dont get off the minute the hospital asks, even if you have no idea that they have requested that your to be off, then the hospital MTs steal your work right out of your queue and I mean reports you have already done. I dont understand the concept of having a contract with a hospital and then having to fight for work with the hospital MTs. We should have guaranteed work during our shift and enough of the the hospital wants you to help right now and then a few hours later they want us to stop working as the work is too low. It is crazy and I couldnt work like that so I had to quit.
I can't afford to stay with VR. If they paid more, I'd stay.
The situation sucks. I really liked this company when I started there. I know they read these forums, and they are aware that we are unhappy over VR line rates. They stroke us with cute emails and say we're the best, but I can't feed my family on praise. They're turning into another MedQuist, and so I'll be leaving.
Searching
I have a phone interview with them on Monday and I'm just really on the fence here! What I want is to be able to have plenty of work, be left alone to do so, and just go back to how it used to be when being a MT was enjoyable. I'm just so undecided right now!
Searching for...
I am looking for a company that provides a computer, has voice recognition, and doesn't require 1200 lines per day for new part time people.
Searching for
I guess I wasn't very clear.  Some companies want you to type 1200 lines per day within 3 weeks, 6 weeks, whatever and give you ESL docs you can't understand, so how can you put it on paper?  It would probably take me 3 months.
Searching and done with it
You made an honest mistake, you apologized graciously, and you do not deserve the bullying you have been getting. Consider that bullies think they have a lot of power because they are anonymous on the Internet. Don't pay attention to them. Hugs to you!
I did some searching
on Google, saw your post below mine this morning too, and looks like maybe you're right because I see a couple of hits from the past with the two with eTranz and then found some old posts from here about not paying by the one person. But it looks like Full Circle is just the other person? Anyone else know anything about this? Thanks!

Try searching archives.

Also frustrated in searching
Is there anyway you could archive posts sooner, like maybe only keep two pages of current post?  Or set up a search for non-archived posts?
sorry....searching...not searing
:(
Try searching MT Stars itself
Instead of Google, try the search for this site. Type in the name of the company and it should bring up information about them. I hope this is what you mean.
Thanks, searching, I figured that must be why. nm

It was the way you advised about searching
and if you think you were *originally* 'polite', you might want to recheck that definition.

Thank you! I do have a lot of soul searching to do.
What is so frustrating is that I'm really a great Transcriptionist in all aspects other than the production and staying focused for 8 straight hours. If I can overcome those, everything would be perfect.

Thanks again for your kind words and great advice. I appreciate it!
I'm actively searching......
TT used to be one of the best companies to work for, not true any longer. They seem to be all about making money for themselves. No more yearly bonuses, no matching 401K, nothing for MT week but thanks from lower management. There are companies out there that pay 70% of your line rate for speech, that's reasonable. This whole thing is going to backfire on them in the end. I've had several interviews but haven't made a final decision yet. It's not that I want to find a company that doesn't do VR, in reality they all will eventually. I want to find a company that realizes their MTs put bread on the table for managment, sadly that is no longer TransTech.
I've been searching for a prn
position for months! I'll definitely need it now to make up for the lost money due to reduction in pay!
Try searching "CHRISTIAN" rather than DIT
I too got nothing when searching DIT, but when you search the word Christian, a lot of linkage to past DIT posts come up since they always tout themselves to be a Christian organization.

You'll find it very enlightening.

Not easy...been searching for months
I was a recruiter and the company decided to hire a recruiting company...now many of us can't even find positions as there are usually one or two per company and they never leave or some don't pay well. So not easy even with someone with experience.
After searching the archives a bit, not so sure I want to work for them
nm
No. I just happened to be searching & thought I'd
s
It should, but you'll be searching a long
time to find it.  Seems 8 cpl is the going rate and 9 if you're lucky.
Is it? Nuts. I have been searching all over for my contract, but I'm not sure
I ever got a signed copy back from D., though I specifically requested that she send a copy back to me with her signature on it as well.
