I've got work available at almost all times of the day,

but I am on Lanier accounts.  I think the wav accounts have a lot more people on them fighting for the work.  Maybe there are people on your accounts doing way above their commitment.  That would throw things off all around.  Perhaps you should inquire about it.  If you try all times of the day and still don't find work available, they should give you another account.  Good luck.  I know it is frustrating running out of work.  I have other accounts that do that and it gets so tiresome.  Some days I just hate this whole industry.  These tight TATs are the root of all the work flow problems.

I've been out of work 2 times today
7 a.m for 1-1/2 hours, and now. I don't count the 1 or 2 reports that slip in. I've worked exactly 3-3/4 hours today in my 8 hour shift.
I've done that many times. That is how..sm
I got my first job. I applied at a company who didn't have any job ads out. They gave me a test, I passed, and they hired me.
They've only had 2 times that the system....sm

was down several hours.  Anywhere you work is going to have unscheduled downtime occasionally.

I think the platform is good and improvements are in the workings to make it even better.

I've had that happen to me a few times...
when I started with a new company about a year ago. But, when I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that my way too was correct, I called the QA on it...and most of the time, I was doing it correctly, just different than they would have done it. However, I conformed to *their* way of thinking, I guess to keep them off my back and finally got used to it.  Don't take it too seriously, just do your best and what you know is right. Good Luck...wonder if we work for the same company???
I've done that several times in the past. - sm
The alternative (insanity? suicide? homicide?) just isn't worth putting up with all that c_ _ p.
I've been burned so many times

I don't understand what is happening in the MT world today.  I've worked as an IC for years, paid my own health insurance, paid my own taxes.  I've chosen to work  as an IC because I want the flexibility to decide my own schedule.  It has always worked for me in the past.  Today, however, that is not happening.  Companies today who hire ICs as well as employee status are requiring that an IC commit to working a 5-day schedule, Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday, specific shift hours, something without doubt beyond the limits of IRS guidelines.  If I wanted a schedule such as mentioned, I would sign on as employee status.  Let the employee status MTs commit to their shifts.  If I make my 1000 or 1200 lines per day, the days I do it, the hours I do it are totally my decision, but I am receiving contracts that require me to work a schedule on a company's dictates, or I am turning down offers as IC status because in the interviewing process I am asked to commit to a schedule as mentioned when the entire purpose of my being an IC is flexibility.  Why are they producing these contracts that are totally against IRS guidelines in order to work for them?  Sure, they need to know what I will produce, but as an IC, they cannot dictate when and how I will do that.

TIA for your comments.  I know I cannot be the only one who is scratching their heads, wondering why be an IC today if the IRS guidelines are ignored.  Of course, I don't have to sign any contract, but I'm telling  you, this is happening over and over again.

I've said on here several times to always keep current job
nm
It's not that. The few times I've said anything positive, I get blasted
or accused of being a recruiter. That's why I posted what I did. Wasn't trying to be snotty to you. I was just being facetious due to the trolls.
I've done this a couple of times in the past
I had specific questions regarding the platform and Expander program compatiblities, as well as how lines are counted among other issues. As the recruiter did not know the answer to these questions, I was given the name and number of the MT manager to speak with. At least one job I declined based on the manager's responses, not because I thought she did not handle the questions well, but found out enough to know the company was not what I was looking for.

On those occasions where I spoke directly to the MT manager, the companies were very impressed with my knowledge of both MT and word processing/computer issues and ended up wanting me to come to work to a greater degree than I feel they would have if I had not talked to the manager.

I don't think it would be inappropriate to ask. The worst that can happen is the recruiter says no and can't answer your detailed questions. In that case, that company is not a right fit for you.
Don't count on it - I've sent them a resume 2 different times
and have 10 years experience and have never heard a word from them.
I've applied with them THREE times and have never received a response - sm
and it's not because I don't have experience. I had been with Brand X National for 8 years (you can probably figure out who) when I applied with Spheris, and I never got a response. Sent a second ap, nada. Third ap, still nothing.

Through this whole time period Spheris had want ads scattered all over the net. I'll never, ever understand why they didn't get in touch with me. Their loss....I'm now working for a local company and completely satisfied.
I work for 2 … gives a little bit of security for those "run out of work" times. nm

RE work times
Yes, that would probably work. My experience was that they would download work to you at night and it was available that evening and through the next day. Like I said, you kind of make your own schedule within the window of time they need it back. You may need more than one doctor though if you want 6 hours of work per day of steady work. I had 4 doctors, one that dictated 1 1/2 hours a day and one that dictated every other day but had 5 hours of work each time. It varies by who you have for doctors. You can make them aware that you would like that many hours and they can accomodate it I'm sure. Only one thing you need to know though is NO DIRECT DEPOSITS and they use snail mail unless you pay to have it expressed.
also, ran out of work a few times in those 3 months
nm
Out of work 15 times Friday
Has happened all week long.  Think I got a total of 4 hours yesterday.  My STM said we were down 750 dictation minutes for some reason this week.  She had no idea why.  I have 8 different accounts I pull from.
I quit twice. Both times for the same reason...low/no work. nm
x
The problem is they ARE telling their MTs what times to work.
I have had MTSOs try to tell me that I had to work between such and such hours. I see it in ads all the time that they want to work 3-11 p.m. or something like that. That is what the problem is. Can they dictate shifts when it is an IC position? What is the point of being an IC if you are stuck to a set schedule. Might as well be an employee somewhere and get benefits to go along with it.
Work can be really low at times and I find the sound to not be the
best but it is not any worse than a lot of the other places.
A lot of times, if they need extra help, they will over 1-1/2 times our regular rate. sm
This is the equivalent of OT but you get it even if you have not done 40 hours already. I have also received AmerExp gift cards a few times for incentives offered. I think it depends on the account.

I do know for sure that they are working on an incentive program but I have no details and not even sure if they are still looking at it.

I do know for sure that I make more $$ with Keystrokes than I have ever made anywhere else.
She clearly said several times that she starts her shift, gets work as it comes in, and then stays
on and types at night or whenever she feels like getting the work to meet her goal. I don't even work for Transcend NOW, but read her clearly post over and over how she meets these numbers. She works WHENEVER she can to meet her goal if the work is NOT there during her scheduled shift. What is so hard about understanding that?  Yes, some MTs are allowed to do that at Transcend, so she's not doing anything wrong. TO REPEAT:  She works her shift, typing what comes, making good use of her down time in the meanwhile - think she does chores or something. If there is no work on her set shift, she stays on at night and grabs the work she can to meet her GOALS.
The only time I work OT, they offer 1-1/2 times my line rate which is OT pay IMO. sm
I rarely, rarely work OT though as I have kids in sports and a husband who works strange hours.
I know this question is asked a million times but who is good to work for
anymore?  I have 13 years experience and I work at a hospital part time but I know I can make more on production plus I need the flexibility because I have osteo in my back and other health problems that require me to kind of break it up if you know what I mean.  I'd only like to work 4 to 6 hours a day, make a decent line rate, and have flexibility of having a span of time within which to get my lines done.  I don't need benefits but do not like IC status; I prefer statutory.  Any ideas?
Have to agree. Scratching for work at times. Don't want to share with any more new hires if I d
Sorry if that sounds selfish, but I don't think new hires want to come on board and find the pickings are slim right now either.
but mgmt told me they outsourced some work to a small company at times.

There is no reason for me to lie about this.

I am NOT talking about offshoring, but the company whom they outsource to may offshore . . . I have no idea about that.  But straight from the horse's mouth, they have outsourced to a small MTSO before.

You can notice how the work dries up all of a sudden when they turn it over to the service and we have no work.

TT mgmt may not tell that they outsource today, but they definitely told me about 9 months ago when I asked when the work was low.  From the way the jobs disappear occasionally, I think it happens quite often.

Depends on the account. Work on VR lately has been slow. Just like all companies, we have slow times

Honestly though, I have only had 2-3 times in the past 2 years where it was like the other day...no work... It did pick up later but I just think it's important not to make someone think we're overloaded with work all the time. That would not be fair to them if they end up with high expectations.

Of course there's plenty of work at TT, you've got MDI-MDs work!!!
YOU NOW HAVE MDI-MD'S ACCOUNTS.

WE HAVE BEEN STARVING AND SCRAMBLING AND UNABLE TO PAY BILLS FOR TWO MONTHS, BUT, YES, Transcend DEFINITELY HAS PLENTY OF WORK.

No offense, Deb. MDI-MD is the one that sold out. Can't blame Transcend for trying, but PLEASE do NOT come in her touting how much work Transcend has when it is the work the MDI-MD MTs have been ROBBED OF for months now.

That's insensitive and quite frankly probably not the best foot to get off on with MDI-MD'ers.

I'm walking anyway. MDI-MD was too underhanded, sneaky and self-serving during this entire transaction.

I certainly hope they do indeed reap what they have sown.

I've done PRN work for them
They're a small MT company with decent people who will work with you, especially regarding having life outside of MT. They use ICs rather than employees and are very flexible as long as work is in by deadline.

Dictators vary in difficulty but they'll work with you on what you're best at and won't jumble you continuously.

As a subcontractor, you don't get paid until they do, but their accounts pay steady and they keep in touch with you when checks arrive for each account and send them out promptly. Once you get rolling, you'll get a steady stream of income.

They don't off-shore and they're honest.

Thanks. Have they been low on work since you've
nm
I've got a ton of work, on OT, It may be
slow a day or two next week due to the holiday, but then we'll probably be on OT again.
I've never been without work at Amphion!
??
All's I know is, I've never been out of work for more than 5 minutes...

90% of the time I'm on my main account and have something like five backups.  Also, I asked my manager to train me on the account that's always super backed up (like 200+ reports every day) so I'd have that as back-up, also.

Running out of work is gonna happen sometimes; it's the nature of the beast.  And like I said, it's never lasted long.  I'll take the teeny little hiccups in work flow over the low hospital pay and bitchy co-workers/managers any day of the week.

In 5 years I've never had a day without work, though
have had probably 4 days of about half my usual line count, due to the hospital system being down or due to hurricanes, but never went completely without work.  My company isn't hiring though.
I've been there for 1-1/2 years and have never run out of work. nm
:]
Don't you still work for QT? You've posted

several times in the past, always seeming to want to get something started.

I've NEVER run out of work in 9 years.
hellish shift, all the reports everybody else sends back, it's a dirty job, and love the $
I've never said there isn't work, it just depends on your
account.  But I'm willing to put in the time, adjust my schedule to when there may be work, etc. and have multiple accounts and still can't get lines in (and I wasn't the only one) then it doesn't matter now much OT is available on another account.
I've not had any problems with low work....sm
in fact, my 3 accounts have been on OT for a few weeks now.
I've never had to work on a holiday...
but I guess it all depends on who you're working for.
Must be on a different account than I am - i've never run out of work with Amphion!
.
I've been there 5+ years and have had plenty of work.

I would occasionally work on weekends when I needed extra $$ and there is no work on the weekends now.  Mondays also tend to be a little slow because they are keeping a tighter TAT and we aren't playing catch-up from the weekend, but even then I still get my lines.

Are you a long-time QTer and not getting your lines?

I've only ever heard of them having plentiful work
and that's been my experience.  Is this a new issue?
I've been with them far, far longer than you, and believe me, work is not bountiful. You are very
One year, big deal. You have no idea. You won't be happy for very long.
We have work. I've been in your shoes though with other jobs
They are screaming desperately, I get the job, and the second day of the job, there is no work so I sat there all afternoon twiddling my thumbs. By day 3, when I was told there was only 3 reports to do, I quit. Life's too short to waste my time and energy.
I've decided that I'm not going to work for them any longer. sm
I never signed anything that obligated me to the fee. That's the point. I only found out with the direct deposit printout, and I had to then question the expense. I've been an IC for years, and never have I been asked to pay for the use of the software a company installed on my computer. I provide my computer to use, yes, but a company has to supply the software, and no one has ever required a charge for that. I should have been afforded the opportunity at interview to either accept or reject the job based on that requirement. Since the subject of a license fee was never broached during the interview process and the contract did not specify that I would pay for a license fee, I accepted the position based upon the contract terms. As far as they have a right to charge since I am an IC, I feel they have no right that is not specified within the contract boundaries. Am I wrong with this thinking?
So is the work load at MDI-FL picking up? I've talked to them before....sm

about coming to work for them when it does.  They said they'd get in touch with me and so I really don't want to contact them back first.  However, I'm probably going to move on if I don't hook up with them soon.  I've seen here that their work load is down and perhaps they've overhired (?), but they'd be my first choice of where to go from here. So is their work picking up, especially the VR?

I've never clocked in/out, great company to work for.
x
I've been trying to find a company with steady work
x
Update: I've been contacted and may be able to return if work is available.
This is exactly why I loved my job there!!! These are the best people to work for. Whenever you have problems, issues, and questions, they are always there and treat you with the utmost respect.  Even if I do not get the chance to return, I feel blessed to have spent the last four years there.  Trust me.....none of the other nationals out there can compare.
Great place to work. I've been there a year.
Exactly what do you want to know?
I've had steady work the past 2 days on
my primary account, but I'm pretty sure it only has to do with people being off. I don't think there has been any kind of major change for the greater good or anything. So I'm not getting excited. I'll be back at the soup kitchen probably next week - so someone save my seat!
I've been there 1 1/2 years and had no problems. I'm an IC, very seldom run out of work, usua
more than enough to go around except the times when transcription is slow across the board.  Pay is direct deposit and my personal experience with management is that they are easy to get along with and flexible.
