Can of worms
Thanks for being nice and replying.  I never dreamed asking a simple question could open up such a can of worms.
Again, VR is opening up that can of worms.
I answered on the other board, but mine was not moved so am reposting. As far as VR, I love it, others dislike it, even saying the hate word. I can make $20 and up per hour on the platform I use. From what I read here, some are not so lucky to have a very good system and it slows them down to where their pay has been cut to a large degree. I love escription, have used it now for about 4 years and really hate to straight type anymore. I find the ESLs, at least where I work, are so much easier with VR than having to sort through what they are trying to say. I will say how a system is trained and who works on it has all to do with what kind of reports you have. You could have almost perfect reports with a good system that has learned well and then you could get a clunker with loads on teaching the machine various ways and that is where the problem lies with VR.
Opening up that can of worms, once more
I stayed with a job that went to VR but not for 3 cpl. That is really low and I hate it is coming down to this at so many places. My straight pay is 8 cpl. Escription is a really good system. You will find all kinds of answers on here back and forth. This will never be settled, seems like. Some love, others despise. Some have good systems, others not so good. From just what I gathered reading MQ site, I don't think their platform was that good as many talked about how it always had same errors and never seemed to be different. I have been accused of being software promoter but like you and others I do MTing but just happen to like my job and VR.
I suppose if CEOs had their way, we would be eating worms
and be thanking them for paying us the few pennies to afford our tasty worms, lest they give us another cut in pay while increasing their profits...
Not to open a can of worms, but is Meditrans of Norcross, GA an Indian company? nm

Whole other can of worms...Illegal on company's side illegal, but (sm)
Retaliatory firing for contact with government oversight agency is illegal in all cases (Whistleblower's laws). It is hard, however, to prove retaliation because company can fire for breech of policy (working overtime when not approved, etc), can railroad you until you quit or they pick up enough nitpicky things to justify termination, or in most states for no reason at all (shaky if you've been to labor board). Whether reported or not, it opens a whole can of worms, and not everybody is going to be happy with the consequences (just look at the MQ saga). IMO solely, if OT is not specifically approved, don't work it. If you want to work it and not put it on your time, feel free (but that is fraudulent records if you're caught - again grounds for termination if anybody cares, which they usually won't unless under scrutiny by oversight agency). If you ask for and get approval beforehand, everybody's happy.

They used to give out $25 Amex cheques -- give them time. :-) nm

I get what you are all saying about them not having to give give you work, but...
I guess I just figure that as an IC, I am basically my own business and it is my responsibility to make sure that the work is done when it should be. I just think that if the standard of the company is 24 hour TAT then that is what I am agreeing to do when they hire me. There are advantages for both of us to the IC senerio, they do not have to pay benefits, or take care of collecting and reporting the taxes, and I have to adhear to the 24 hour TAT (or what every thier standards are) but can do that during hours that are convenient to me. Of course it is better for the company if they know exactly when I am going to be sitting at my desk and typing that is why they have the option of hiring employees. Just my opinion and wanting things to be like they used to be.. I guess I have to get out of my time warp or look a little harder for a company who really knows what IC status means.
Give it time, sweetie, give it time.

Don't give up what you now have. (nm)

We Cannot Give Up..
I have been doing this for 10 years now and I believe that none of us should give up. It is my understanding that part of the reason why they are going offshore anyway, besides low cost, is because they cannot find anyone who wants to do the work here. Partly, I disagree with nobody wanting to find work because it took me many, many attempts to find a job and I was so desperate at the time that I worked for one of those Indian companies. I found that team leaders there are not qualified enough to lead and really have no leadership abilities. Also, the MTs are not great either. If we all team up together, I believe with my whole heart that we can truly win our jobs back. Besides...how many people do you know wants their medical reports and social security numbers floating over there anyway? I know I don't.
give it to you
on a handout in the packet. I didn't gain, didn't lose.
I would give it a try
about how MTs were dropping out of the sky like flies.  I don't believe it.  Good ones are very hard to find.  Ones that will work and not take a half day to go to Wal-Mart.  It is not a straight typing job.  Most people think it is.  I have people calling me all the time saying My sister is interested in that.  She can type.  and on and on.

Why give up one?
It sounds like you have a good thing going working amongst both? But if I HAD to give up one, I'd probably give up the national and stay with the smaller MTSO with plenty of work and good communication.
Seems a bit low? It IS A LOT LOW! Don't give
them the benefit of your time for the interview. Line pay is not worth it at all! Taking a job with a co that pays line pay says you are not into quality because apparently they aren't! All of the QA I know will not work for line pay. There are companies out there that pay decent for QA. Don't settle for it or you will be selling your fellow QA folks down the river. Hang tight and find these hourly jobs. I have one that is a pretty good rate. Tell the 2-cent-per-line companies what they can do with their QA jobs
ugh.. i give up.. that should say.. SM not NM ..

I give up

You know, most MTs who post on this board seem very negative.  I have 2 years experience, but you don't even know what I have been doing in those 2 years, or my educational background, so how could you even say I am not qualified?  I was just responding to a post directed at me.  Good grief.

wow...you can do all of that but you cant give
 Sheesh.. Glad I didn't apply.
in my exp. with KS, you give them
what schedule you prefer (what you already work now, etc.), whether you prefer to work a certain weekend day (I prefer 5a-1p, Sun-Thurs).  Basically, they trust that you will be on during most of those day time hours.  However, they are very flexible, and are very in tuned to you switching hours in the case of low work volumes, or appointments, etc.  They trust you will get your lines in, somehow, in your 40-hour week.  They just like to have a preferred shift, for paperwork, I think, like MQ USED to do, before they went anal.
Just keep looking, don't give up.
Real QA does take a fine eye and stellar information base. MTs that edit never make any decent money. It will take a couple years or so to really make a decent living alongwith the right company and account. Making 9 cpl on an account you can't even understand could wind up paying you less in the end than a 6 cpl account with speakers you actually can understand. So, the right fit is also important to your eventual success. Still, it'll take time. Just keep looking and be persistent.

Good luck to you and God Bless.
why not give it a try
I haven't used Meditech before, so can't comment on that, but you can tell MDI that you want to try it for a few days P/T and get a feel for it before committing to the job. They'll probably be okay with that.
Maybe. Only way to know is give them a try but
x
at least they give you something
that is better than the same line rate for years with the same company.
Don't give up.....

Compared to alot of the MTs on this site I would consider myself a newbie...7-8 yrs experience with stronger skills in psyche, but nonetheless a newbie.  This site has helped me out a lot, I promise you.  I have learned not to give up.  How long have you been in this field?  I worked at a hospital for a couple of years and then was fortunate to float around here at home.  I was recently let go from a company (7/21/2008) that I loved but due to offshoring, I was let go.  I had given alot of myself but not nearly as much as I could have as I look back on it.  But, in either case, you take the positive with the  negative and build upon it....you have to make it work for you (I love it).  I considered going outside my home to work but then changed my mind as I realized that my complaints are the same as all at home MTs (lack of socialization, weight gain, basically not getting out of the house).  I have decided that I love my job and only want to give FN the best, but I love me and want the same things for myself, so I am going to make some changes.....

I give up
Well, it would be at least nice if they would get back to you with your score. I will take that as a start. I guess if they want perfection, they can pay for it too!
Don't give up

I applied for 15 jobs when I was looking last October.  Some said thanks, but no thanks, and others I never heard from.  One of the ones that I had written off because of no response actually responded to me positively about a month after the fact.  That's who I ended up working for.

I know it's a pain, but keep applying and you'll find something.  Companies are hurting for people like you with good experience.

Let me give an example of the pay
I have been working as I have been on this board yaking away and for the first hour of my work today I made $19.28 and that was not really working the entire time on VR and running my mouth here.
That is what I have been doing...i give up.nm

Give it up....
If you're rational and have common sense and actually can do VR, these posters will continue to call you management (or a liar), even when faced with proof.

I've given up trying to reason with them. They're irrational and those types of people don't want reassurance or guidance. Instead, they prefer to label us all management or liars or incompetent or slow typists.

Let them talk amongst themselves and generate further negativity and hysteria.

I continue to keep working rather than whining. This one-sided debate of who can 'yell' the loudest is completely counterproductive and a waste of ANY positivity attempted to be interjected.

I say let them plan their 'mass exodus'...just means more money for the rest of us.
I think he should give up.
If he hasn't found anybody by now I'm not sure he ever will. It must be a a horrible place to work judging by the ridiculous instructions he has for simply sending in an application.
Exactly. I don't think they would give SM

a new mother any more consideration than anyone else.  If they are low on work, I think they would just say you can't come back.  I hope you weren't going to be coming back around the holidays this year because I can almost guarantee the work will be low then.

Well said. And they always give the same - sm
old sob-story about the economy, or 'the hospitals just won't pay sny more.' Sure they will - if MTSO's grow themselves some backbones and stand up for what their product is truly worth. But no, that would just be too SCARY! Easier for the Spineless Ones to just cowtow to the hospitals, and make up the difference by stiffing their employees.

Obviously most of the suits don't seem to believe in KHARMA.
Who says you have to give up...
Who says you have to give up -God- if you miss church on Sunday? Sorry, I don't get that... even though I agree that an every weekend requirement is a pain to say the least.

Did you ask your TL or ROM to give you - sm
work on another account?. I have 5 accounts and if I run out of work, which is rare, and want more, they pool me to another account.

Everyone knows this industry is feast or famine, but I have not been starving in quite a while. In fact, I have found my team leaders and regional operations manger will bend over backwards to accommodate. Sorry your experience has not been the same, and I truly mean that.

Oh my, please don't give up! sm
I have been doing this for almost 32 years. Have done every type of MT you can think of and have done very well at it. I agree jobs are hard to come by but don't give up as far as changing career paths or even staying in MT.

I went to school and learned a new field, but you know I decided after that just stay in MT as difficult as it is nowadays. I love it that much.

I am a certified pharmacy tech also but I can't say that I like that anywhere near like I do MTing and believe me right now I could make a lot more money at it. So don't give up, if you want to change fields you can and if you want to stay in MT you can.

There is alot of talk going around about experience versus nonexperience and how an inexperienced MT can do just as well, etc. etc. Well maybe eventually, but there is something to say for experience. At the very least, we who have had all these 30+ years of experience don't have to look up as much stuff which takes a ton of time thereby increasing our pay even in VR!

Hang in there, its not hopeless, just maybe a little bit harder.
Give me a break.
I doubt 100% that you posted AGAINST Keystrokes and used your real name.  Not gonna make me believe that in a minute, cause if you did, it would have been spread all over this board like wildfire, with Lee and the whole gang from KS posting to you, yadda, yadda.  Don't believe you one minute.  As for posting against Spheris, hmmmm... they have like 12,000 or more employees now? Bigger than MQ. So, boy, you're sure brave if you ever posted as Michelle.  Yep, they'd be able to zero right in on you on their radar screen! Please....Transcend watches this board like a hawk, and DOES contact posters.  PERIOD. It is scary and it is a hassle, so its a business strategy that does work for them regarding damage control. Doesn't mean any of us are "hiding" or that our negative comments are any less valid than your soap-box stances defending Transcend.
Not like you just didn't give away who it is!
have a job thanks to friends like you! Way to go!
A situation of give and take ..
What a great few posts from recruiters.  I share information and I also tell MTs who may not be a good fit for us about other places where I know and feel confident they will get a good chance to work.  I am still idealistic enough to think that first and foremost we are a community of people working the same industry and that we share so many commonalities.  I feel awful at times when I have to turn a really nice person away because their skills do not match what I am needing or my company cannot give them benefits or something that they need that is a deal breaker.  I think too that we need to work at being a bit nicer to each other generally.
Transcend does! Give them a try.

Give US some clues

What are you looking for?  Employee or IC?  Acute care or clinic?

There are good and bad with every company.  Sometimes it just depends on what your needs are.

I will have to give another vote for MQ (I work as an SE part-time).  But for a full time position or if that is the only income you are relying on, MQ would not be my first pick (lack of work in some offices, possibility of upcoming changes due to lawsuits, etc.), but they work wonderful for me in my situation.

Give us some more info

Do they give raises?

Not really, if anyone has info, they give SM
an answer.  If no one knows, the post doesn't get a reply.
I would definitely give 2 weeks, as well.
I wouldn't want to burn bridges.
Not yet. I would give it 3-6 months. sm
I am not saying NOT to go back, I am just saying that in my opinion, there will be changes over the next few months that will stay in place after that. The goal for the project is November 15th mailing to all current MTs, December 1st mailing to all past MTs. The benefits are being revamped, the pay structure revamped with incentives, levels and shift differentials, policies and procedures finalized. It will be seamless for most but not all. The diffence between this roll-out and MQ's new plan is this is meant to IMPROVE not DESTROY.

I personally think that hiring will be better with the new HR manager and the new training program (on-line and conference call) but it still be worked on. Better to go back when it is all done.
Give it up for the gipper

Could someone give me the history
It must have been a great company or something.  Fill us all in, please.  Are they in business now under another name? Have a need to know.
I wonder if they still give little gifts to the MTs. nm
