It sounds like you and I left right around the same time!

Posted By: Former SPi on 2009-04-20

I left back in February 2007...just as things were starting to get really bad. I know that they were in danger of losing my primary account. I also heard that they had a massive layoff of US MTs that following summer. I'm so glad I left when I did! I remember feeling like a 10-ton brick had been lifted from my shoulders when I left SPi and started with my new company!

Sounds like where I left. I do ESL very well, sm
but not as fast as English speaking dictators, so I was taken advanntage of by being paid the same line rate as the MT who cannot do ESL. In fact, at my current Hospital Radiology position, we had an MT who said she always tells the MT Nationals she can't do ESL, and that way she makes more money, how about that????
This sounds like the company I just left!
I wonder if the MTSO has changed the name of the company? If it is the same company, I think you are wise to drop them and do it ASAP.
Disillusioned....Sue's description sounds like the company you just left
except for the rental fee, which they JUST changed recently, and even then it was higher than the one Sue quoted.  I still say you got a much better deal with Amphion.
Sounds like SoftScript. The left hand never knew

Evidently things haven't changed since I left. Sounds like they've gotten worse - LOL
nm
I left OSI just in time before this went down
OSI has proven too much recently for me and I have just left. The timing could not have been more perfect. Whew!
They are going big time for offshoring. I left and
would never return. Horrible management mess, accounts awful, lots of sneaking around and favoritism. Mind you, I was one given VIP treatment, but it made me realize they were not to be trusted AT ALL. Horrible place. I had recommended to a few people and felt so bad when all fell apart quickly.
I left there a long time ago but I
had office people but I don't think they were MT's.  I do remember the endless account rules and them changing all the time.  They were very disorganized when they distributed information.  It wasn't the worst place I've worked but it wasn't a picnic either.
There is a part-time and a flexible part-time, just left there and they offered
me both. Flexible, however, is more or less when they need you (I.e. weekends), part-time is fixed hours.
Had many friends in the QA dept who all left about the same time.
AND...yes, I do believe them!
Yes - sounds like you are the one having the difficult time -......
must be you who got the axe! Maybe you should spend your time looking for another job and praying you get one.
Sounds like the one I work for that just can't seem to get it in there on time for DD. sm
Always an excuse.
That sounds very time consuming. nm

Thanks..That is about the time I quit so sounds like they got that together.
That's a good sign. I believe companies can change bad habits and I think people need to give them a chance.
Hurray! Sounds like first in, first out, about time.
nm
Sounds like being self-employed, no time to die.
Time off for the self-employed is the same except they'll find another service and replace you if you miss one day. No hearts.
it sounds as if this may have been going on for a long time ...

and the manager feels herself to be/is helpless in the situation.

If you have not already, you might offer your future support if she (ever) decides to deal with this situation.  (She has your mutual file, but she might appreciate some moral support).

When I was a hospital employee/supervisor, I once feared having to fire one of my favorite workers for conspiring with a doctor's office employee to conceal an error they had made (wrong patient information attached to a laboratory specimen). My kind hearted worker wanted to help this other person not get fired -- apparently the office worker had made this mistake before, doncha know. When I contacted the office manager about the error (an embarrassing several weeks later - the report had remained in limbo because my worker did not have the editing function to complete the correction), it turned out that the employee in question was habitually sloppy and careless. That office manager was almost happy to finally be able to fire her -- not so much for the error as the conspiracy and deceit to conceal the error.  That's how it should be handled.

Since you don't know why the office manager feels so helpless, unless you want to take her to lunch and become her BFF, I think you have to walk away and count your blessings to be able to do so -- and give the office manager the responsibility for doing nothing, regardless of the unfairness of it all (she gets to keep working in that environment, lucky her.).

I left them not long ago. Way too much time spent talking to
tech support because of technical problems or glitches with their system. I probably averaged 90 minutes a day down-time trying to get everything in order. Their transcription platform is not the best in the world from what I saw.
I'll help! I left MQ at the time of this original post
I found a great job with a great US company, and have my self respect back. Enjoy my work again.  Go USA!!  Go MTs!!
Sounds like the part-time is an afterthought
I do have the small children at home, why won't someone fit their schedule to meet mine? What would you do if you had to, oh my goodness, get a job outside the house?
The grass, in my opinion, is definitely not greener. I left QT and a short time later, sm
I came back and was never happier that I did. I should never have left in the first place. I think QT is, by far, one of the most flexible, good-paying, understanding company to work for. I actually enjoy when it is a little slow and volunteer to have a day off. I love to have a day to myself every once and a while.

In regard to the person who waits 30 minutes for work, just call again. Sometimes, the office people get side tracked and then might forget that they didn't get work routed. L told me once, if I didn't have work in 10 minutes, call again. Usually, if this happens to me, the person says something line, Oh, I got busy and totally forgot, I'm sorry, I'll do it right away. Sorry about the long post, I just happen to think that QT is the best company out there! ;)
Sounds like you're gettin' ripped BIG TIME!

CEO hasn't left yet, she's leaving in August. Co's are bought and sold all the time and I
think this is that big a deal.
I was IC w/them and checks came on time. First checks were FedX'd to me on time! I left due to an

It is as simple as filling out a form. I did it when I left an MTSO and when I left sm
a non-MT position at a company years ago.

What company? I did not know that any of them offer 401K anymore.
sure sounds swell. Sounds like 2350 ln/day @ 4 cents/ln=$90./day
in order to figure how many line needs to be produced to make $500 per pay period. ie, how many lines an hour needed per 8 hour day --at your rate.

So say $450 a week would be $90 a day.
For example, if making 4 cents a line, need 2,250 lines a day, 281 an HOUR (to listen through and edit) to make this great wage of $90. a day FOR ALL THIS SAME SKILL, TO KEEP UPDATED WITH CHANGING MEDICAL COMMUNITY. nope Better at Jack-in-Box Pass it up.
Sounds like it and it sounds like you must tell them when they will be and no change them. Wonder
what you do when there is no work. Well, there will be a lot of problems with this whole plan if they dont get things straightened out with this no work situation.
I'm lookin for part-time work (about 3-4 hrs daily) after 13 years of full-time, anyone know of a
company that is hiring flexible part-time?  I'm starting a career in real estate but don't want to totally quit transcription, but I think most places require 25 hours a week and I cant work weekends, as real estate sales are the biggest on the weekend with open houses and people off work to shows homes to.  If you know of a place I'd sure appreciate the info.  Thanks!
MDI-Maryland is an excellent company, pay on time all the time, great line rate.
I left also because I went out and got my own client(s).
They are very nice people.

The only negative I can think of were the e-mails from the owner say work, work, work, we are out of TAT.

Other than that, which is very minor, it was a good experience.
Not what I was told; 3500/wk part-time & 6000 wk/full-time. nm

Precyse Solutions is hiring part-time and full-time right now.
Saw this on their website.
i work 3 part-time jobs now. it can be confusing if you are learning both at the same time, but sm
other than that not a problem for me. best to get one down before starting to other or you might become overwhelmed.
MDI-MD: What are daily line requirements for full-time/part-time? Thanks! nm
nm
I have one full-time job and 2 part-time jobs. It can be tricky at times, sm
but at least I now have plenty of work always. I have some big financial goals, and right now that seems to be the only way to accomplish it.  I can't see any reason why it would not be legal -- why would you say that?  I am cheating no one, except myself (out of sleep and a social life).  Fortunately, I am single with no children or anything.  I cannot imagine doing this if I had a family.  At least my dogige understands.
I've been there quite a while, pay on time, growth spurt right now, so good time to get on board,
new accounts and lots of work, and before someone says it, I'm not management, just an employee.
per his request I told him Time To Call, he called Not That Time, emailed me
nm
Full time/part time based on # hours or
# lines per pay period, nothing to do with quality. The lower the quality the higher the pay it seems.
Solution: Find another job, part time or full time.
Post your resume, hope for the best.
Depends on how flexible you need to be and if full-time or part-time
They are a little more flexible if you are part-time.  Not so much full-time, where you can be a little flexible within the day (not a strict 8-5), but if you are scheduled for Monday, you have to work Monday unless you request off, and if you are scheduled for a Holiday, you have to work the holiday, unless you request off.  They encourage you to clock out every time you are not typing to keep your lph rate up, which means an 8 hour day can turn into 12 hours at the computer.  If they run out of work (which they do quite often), you have to make the time up.  They are also leaning more towards Voice Recognition, so MTs are getting trained on that, but not sure what percent will go that way.  It does affect how much work you may get though in the other accounts.
They are advertising for full time HIM now, do they still hire part time? nm
x
It will get better, I hope. Too much time on my hands means too much time on ebay! lol nm

DVHP gives vacation time to part-time people. nm

Any companies out there where you do not have to fill in a time sheet or on a time clock?
I would like to do my lines and be done, and still get my benefits.  Any companies out there that go by line production rather than hours to qualify for bennies?
OSi with part time health insurance and paid time off
OSi does offer health insurance and paid time off for part time.  Yes, there have been changes.  Yes, there will probably be more changes.  I don't see anywhere that hasn't had changes.  If they don't change they will be out of business the way the economy is these days, just like some other companies.  If they don't make money, then I don't make money.  So, what is so different with OSi compared to other companies?  I see complaints constantly about all companies.  I don't think it is the fault of the company that they outsource or use voice recognition.  It just is life on life's terms these days.  There is still enough work for us, at least for me.
My thoughts exactly, why waste my time when you know you are only hiring full time? nm
nm
From time to time those paper checks aren't good!

This comes at the same time they are pushing this TAT time. I have no intention of sitting here on a
set schedule for no work. The only reason I get work now is working erratic hours when there is work so I think anyone that works for Amherst better put down on their time schedule they send in they will be working when there is work. The worst thing that can happen is you get canned for working different hours and if there is no work who cares. They surely dont care about SE do they. They just pull the rug out and expect all these people with second jobs to adjust and quite frankly a lot of them wont be able to so I think it tells you they probably dont care about those people. I think with ASR and EMR they figure they can just trim the work force and the first they dont care about are those with other jobs using this as a second income or spending money. Pretty obvious to me.
Its holiday time. I just took a part time job at K-Mart and
it is really quite fun because I get to interact with humans and do not have to stare at a computer. My part time benefits included an employee discount on merchandise from day 1 of employment, can put that on lay-away, and if the item goes on sale before you pick it up, you get it at the sale price as well as with the discount. This is a Super K-Mart, and with kids this will really help with paying for their presents. It sure beats running out of work every day and wondering if I am going to have any money for gifts.
Ugh - well I did all my work on time and I expect to be paid on time.

The phone company doesn't wait, the cable company doesn't wait, and the electric company doesn't wait for their money either - all of which I need to pay in order to do my job.  I work when I am supposed to, I help when behind, and give 110%, and I ask for my check to be on time.

I think if an MTSO is going to have to mail checks they should do so priority to make up for the delay.

Full time but no work half the time-nm
