Loyal to HTS - they've treated me well

I have no concern as to your credentials. I speak solely of my experience with HTS.
Let me address some of your facts. You state: Not enough tech support (not available evenings or weekends My experience: They have been available to me 24/7 for ten years. You state: No raises. My experience: Frequent raises. You state: ..their hands are tied. My experience: What does this even mean? I have never experienced anything along these lines. If there is a problem, they resolve it. Period. You state: Many people in this organization are related to the current owner (red flag). My experience: Again, what?? I know many of them, and of those I know none are related to one another, let alone the owner. Spare us your red flag. You state: The current owner makes it a habit to bash the prior owner, tell you all sorts of dirty laundry, goes on and on about how she cannot afford to give raises, yet she's managed to dwindle down this pay off mighty quick. It's an attitude thing. My experience: One of the nicest women I have every worked with/for. Very considerate of her MTs and their personal needs as well as professional. It IS an attitude thing. On both sides of the equation. You state: There is not always work. My experience: Never, ever have I not been able to work in ten years. Never. They accommodate me around every turn. If my main account is low, I can request another account and that request is fulfilled immediately. You state: (re: tech guys)..their hands are tied based on minimal programs and/or education. My experience: I should be so lucky as to have a fraction of their knowledge. You state: The owner wanted me to stay. My response: Why? No MT is indispensible. You state: The problems with HyperType are solely due to how the company is run. My experience: No clue what this refers to - not enough work? not enough money earned? tech? no embroidered golf shirts? To posters Looking and Leigh - I wish you the same success I have had with HTS. There are many MT companies out there, obviously, offering many different packages that may or may not suit your needs. Hypertype is a well-run company that has never come up short in any regard in my experience. Rest assured that if you chose to work with HTS and keep up your end of the deal in terms of providing quality transcription, you will be appropriately compensated and have the pleasure of dealing with some really great people.

I've been loyal to MDI for 13 years and planned to finish my career here. I
can't even begin to express my dismay, disappointment, and feeling completely blind-sided and slapped across the face by this after a decade plus of Dorothy always saying she had too much integrity to EVER offshore, and now she's going to be in charge of sales and marketing TO offshore.  My mind is still reeling.  So not sure what you mean by loyal.  The MDI I've known and been loyal to for over a decade no longer exists.  Now I've just been left sitting here stunned wondering how she could do such a 180, or if it was just a facade all along.
it is one thing to be loyal, but ..
you have bills that cannot wait and probably a family to feed.
And you will stay loyal to them while they RIP YOU OFF???

What kind of loyalty does such a business deserve from you?  That's the kind of attitude that allows management to rip off its workers in the first place.  Don't complain, be loyal to us, be nice, take those pay cuts and LIKE THEM!!  If you don't, well, you are DISLOYAL!!!  What nonsense.

And trying to convince folks like you that there are some companies (many, actually), that don't deserve your misplaced loyalty is like teaching a pig to sing:  It is totally useless and really pisses off the pig.

Take those rose-colored spectacles off and look at the world around you.  Just a suggestion, of course.

Loyal Transcend employee
Everything Liz is saying is true.  I have worked for just about every transcription company out there and Transcend is the best by far.  Please don't be worried about outsourcing of work to India...that hasn't impacted my ability to get enough work at all.  A very small % is sent overseas, and this happens in almost all of the national transcription services.  They mostly provide us with 3rd shift coverage when there aren't enough American MLS to meet turn-around times.  The only thing that will keep you from getting enough work is not being willing to work on all work types and all accounts, or not wanting to adjust your shift/days to accommodat workflow.  Please try to keep an open mind and positive attitude about Transcend.  I wouldn't still be here after 8 years if this wasn't the best transcription company out there.
I'm an IC, I adhere to a close to set schedule, am loyal and the first day that I
hear employees get preferential treatment over ICs, I'll jump ship.  I am an IC because my husband has better health benefits and they are cheaper than my company.  We still have line counts to make just like employees and bills to pay, etc, plus we don't get vacation, etc, so need to work steadily just to keep up if we do need to take a day off or are off sick.
What do you mean not loyal to their employees? please give details

I would not want to work for a company that is not loyal, but in what way are they not loyal?

I agree 100%. People should know better, but those of us are who loyal will remain so.
nm
Loyal to scammers & sweatshop labor?
We all know they aren't the slightest bit loyal/appreciative/aware of, any of their employees. To believe that is to be REALLY naiive.
I do believe your loyalty is displaced. No MTSO or national are loyal to MTs
even though they claim to be. Loyalty is earned just like respect. This is a business just like any other business. If one company cuts pay, takes away health insurance, etc, why should any person or MT be loyal to that company? If promises are made and then broken or lies are told, why should any MT be loyal to that MTSO or company?

On the other hand, yes, if the MTSO or national and their people take care of the MT and provide her/him continuous work flow, as promised, pay on time, and work together with an honest and respectful relationship, then, yes loyalty should be mutual and reciprocating.

For you to just come on here and claim MTs should be loyal to company is very improper of you!

Ok, those are my cents worth! Have a good night!
TransTech is not being loyal to their MT's, so you have made a great decision

The pay is always on time, but the paycheck continues to dwindle, so makes it easier for TT to pay their MT's, for sure.

It is so depressing that TT mgmt/lead/sups/tech/in-house clerks, etc. have absolutely no LOW PAYCHECKS.

They have VERY MUCH OVERHIRED; however, they are losing MT's at about the same rate, but they don't care, because there are newbies that will work for practically nothing to get a start, and all they have to do is make a phone call to TT and they are hired !@!

MTSO not loyal friend, relative. Best not to treat
ms
lots of office problems, not loyal to empls, unworkable

.
Also, if MTSOs want MTs who are loyal, hardworking, and take great pride in their jobs by truly ....
dedicating themselves to knowlegdge and producing correct, Grade A reports, then how about paying us as the highly-trained, skilled, hard-wokring, tecnical, workers we are....we are expected to always stay abreast of every medical procedure, drug, medical instrument, operatative procedure, and special procedures, in every specialty (especially for those of us doing acute care and surgical, also radiology/nuclear medicine), we must update references, computes, learn new platforms, train our ears to decipher the SLOPPIEST, LAZIEST, RUDEST dictating physicians, not to mention all the various dialects and accents from all over the world, have superior knowlegein grammar, punctuation, and style....there are highly-paid executives who cannot keep up with what we do, honestly. We have sold ourselves short for way too long, back when I first came home out of hospital, I was lucky to get 6.5cpl, back in 1994, doing all acute care, had 7 different hospitals, we were one of the first live systems. I was out of work, and after getting my associates, being a part of the AAMT (who never helped me personally), 28 years of in-house training, radiology, surgery, etc., it took me months to get someone to pay me what my knowlege/dedication/experience warranted, I still had MTSOs offering 6 and 7 cpl......what??? and I am an IC right now! I finally found an MTSO who is paying 12cpl, and I work my tail off for her, love the company, but I still believe by and large that we are being fed CRUMBS OFF THE TABLE. How do I know? I have a friend who has a company with 75 MTs, I see what she bills and what she pays, and I also know what other companies are making off our backs. Not all MTSOs, to be sure, but most. And remember MTSOs, a lot of us old-timers who were trained in hospital and college, are going to retire, if you want to attract really good young MTs for your company, you had better take a better look at your bottom line and what you are investing in...IMHO!
I'm still not over the way they treated me
I am excellent and highly experienced and I was given voice recordings that were re recorded and impossible to hear, I was yelled at. I'd rather scrub toilets than work for them. They were like the sweatshops of olden days, but mostly I resent the way I was treated and not appreciated at all... a no blanks account. It's been quite a while and I still cringe to think of them.
Treated like IC
No, I'm treated like an IC now, work whatever hours I want. I've enjoyed working for Focus, I like my primary account a lot - not too many ESLs. I just don't want to be forced to be employee status.
Sorry you were treated that way
I have been with the company quite awhile, and while they are generally nice, they do tend to push a bit and can be short on empathy. They do pay on time and have decent benefits, but the TR platform is designed to make more money for the company (I'm certain), as that silly drop down menu for headers slows you down. The supervisors are generally nice, but all business. Very Sorry about your father.
YES! Exactly! If we want to be treated like mature
Have a little integrity.
I am surprised you were treated this way after only ONE day of being ill.
:+
HA! Totally! That is exactly how she treated me!

ICs treated like employees

I absolutely agree.  I've turned down several IC jobs this year simply because the contract made it sound too much like an employee situation.  One company even referred to themselves as the employer and me as the IC.

I also don't like being treated like rented equipment when an employee.  I can't believe my own high level of gullibility in being drawn into situations that never turn out as good as the prospective employer made them sound.

There is one company that I work for as an IC.  They said that they want 20 hours per week, but I've never received any complaints when I've only worked 10 hours.  Also, they do send out SOS emails, but I only read their emails (separate email address just for them) when I'm actually working.  I've repeatedly thanked them for keeping me informed of the status of the account on my days off.

Unfortunately, I have no real solutions to offer.  But, as a relative newbie to this career, I am still shocked at the way that MTs have allowed companies and/or dictators to abuse them with bad dictations, for one thing.  The way it goes is that we stress and strain and send to QA, ask for samples, etc, when IMHO the report should go back to the sender to be fixed, period.  Also, IMHO, every report should be proofread for accuracy before any signatures are placed on it.  Whether proofread or not, the dictator should assume full responsibility for the accuracy of the report; electronic signatures are not good.  My opinion.

And MTs don't stay if they don't like how they are treated.

Treated best during the recruitment
I would say, 95% of the time, whenever I've interviewed and accepted a new job, looking back, I would not that the best treatment I ever received from anyone in that company was during the recruitment process.  It was the same with my two late husbands.  During the dating and engagement period, they treated me the best that I was ever treated.  After I made the commitment to them, they didn't try as hard to be so nice.  So, if the recruitment process is anything but tolerable, I can generally expect that the rest of my experience with that company will be worse.  I'm sure there are exceptions, but this scenario has been true for me most frequently.
Search...there are much better companies, as far as how you will be treated...nm
xx
I have been treated with the utmost courtesy
and consideration since I started. I have had some trouble hitting my line count, and I have not been harrassed or threatened once. I'm getting my lines now, and I'm glad that everyone hung in there with me. I'm part-time, and don't miss the nights or weekends at all. No place works for everyone, but Amphion is definitely worth considering. I've never had an equipment problem, they pay on time, and they leave you alone during the day to work. So far, so good.
Not exactly. Agree with post below. If you like being treated like...
nm
meant to say the way U DEMAND 2 b treated..NM

Treated badly? Wow! That narrows it down
LOLOL
people should treat others the way they want to be treated. nm
.
Me too, similar experience and was not treated well. nm

Why do you guys stick around to be treated like this? sm
How awful! Come to Webmedx where people are nice and answer your questions!
If they would have treated past employees better
they would not have to be in such a bad position. Just shows that for MTSOs as well as everyone else, what goes around comes around.
If you wanted to be treated worse
than crap, constantly lose accounts and have no work then go for it; otherwise run quickly the other way. I agree, I would not work for them again if they were the last company on earth!
was treated like dirt... and shoved out the door. don't do it.
x
and if you can be satisfied with being treated like a piece of crap
.
PS is very very personable. Your treated as an associate which is wonderful, not an like an MT and
talked down to ever. Wonderful people, great place to work. Always lots of work. Can't say anything good or bad about the other company, don't know enough about them or anyone who I know who would say much. So that in itself says something, so read between the lines.
I once worked in place where we were treated like dirt - sm
365 days a year, INCLUDING during MT week. Yeh, they gave us trinkets or sometimes a pizza party, but still jumped on our @$$es as soon as the party was over, about how far behind we'd fallen on our work. I'd rather get NO trinkets, NO week, and no public recognition, and simply a decent living wage and a little professionaal respect.
Teehee!!!! HAHA LOL! I feel like I am treated that way sometimes. sm

As for how I know my accuracy...

I have QA bonuses.  You have to pull up 99% or better on audit to get it AND send under a certain percentage to QA in full.

NO I am NOT the only OP specialist we have.  If you don't see OPs it is probably because they go to us first and if we finish, you don't have any of them in the general pools.

I didn't hear you describe being treated

like dirt.  If there are other things she did that were horrible, feel free to share.  You agreed to 6 cpl and meeting the courier.  If you are the employee with the least seniority and perhaps the least experience, it makes sense that you would get the most inconvenient work setup.  It's called paying your dues.  No need to call a successful businesswoman greeeeeeeeedy.

So what did she do that was so awful?

I do NOT feel that I am treated disrespectfully! Quite the opposite, really. sm

ALL of the support people I have dealt with have been extremely polite and helpful.  I hear please and thank you all of the time.  You do not get that too much anywhere nowadays, it seems.

Granted, I would have been happy if I had been like the one poster and had been paid this Saturday, which is what the original post was abuot, it seems, but I always know that I WILL be paid. It is not like some of these MTSOs I read about who write bad checks, give excuses about paying late, cheat you on your pay, etc.  They are very honest people and I never worry about that end.  In fact, they have shown me kindness in the past where others would not have cared at all.

There are problems with all companies, and this company is not perfect, but then again I have not found any company that IS perfect.  Admittedly, when I was first told that the company was in India, I was a bit taken aback as I had always viewed them as the enemy.  However, all of the transcription is done in the US, and the work is sent to India to be pasted into the GEMMS platform. How it works out to be cost effective for them I do not know, but anything that saves me having to type directly into that nasty platform (GEMMS) is a blessing.  I now have a couple of other jobs, but that is only because I wanted to be an employee with benefits.

I feel bad that this whole thing has turned into a bashing of the company and especially Tonya.  It is true that she has gotten busy, but I always know that I can email her or call her and she will get back with me.  There are times that the work dried up for me and I was not happy, especially when I saw ads for more MTs, but I also blame myself for not talking to the right people about it.  Most issues can be worked out if you just deal directly with the people who can help you and not just come anonymously on a message board and complain.  In fact, I wrote to Tonya about the paycheck issue, and she confirmed for me that they had my invoice and the funds had been issued, so that was that.

Bottom line, the pay is decent, the work is easy, and the people are great.  People could find far worse places to work.

I apologize for the long post, but when I saw that post, it really annoyed me.  Thanks for letting me vent.

Good luck. I was treated this way and I'm still out my money SM
And so is everyone else. Basically you will never see the money unless you HAVE money to hire an attorney and take her to court. Karma will take care of her for taking advantage of u.
ick, their hard attitude is you are lucky to have a job, they were the worst in how they treated emp
in my humble opinion...no appreciation whatsoever
I'm sure this will be pulled but I need to say that MTSOs are treated a lot worse than MTs someti

WE take the risk to run a company.  WE get accounts to keep people busy.  WE pay more to our MTs than ourselves.  WE have to keep up on transcription, drugs, equipment, grammar rules, individual accounts, individual doctor preferences, business practices, tax laws, employment laws, etc.

WE have to pay for QA for MTs that do not know how to look up a word or phrase.  WE have to pay to hire and then be burned.  WE have to pay bank fees, lawyers, accountants, clerical staff, etc.  WE have to put on a smile for customers who don't deserve it because we don't want to lose an account because then our MTs would not have any work.  WE have to put up with crap from MTs who have every excuse in the book from mysterious illnesses to mysterious DSL/phone/electric outages.

WE get bashed if someone is let go because their work is not up to par or if an account goes to voice recognition or goes with a company in India to save a buck.

WE get bashed if someone is hired and does not work out.

WE get bashed for requiring people to provide equipment, phones, etc OR we get bashed for providing all that but paying too low.

Take a look in the mirror.  If you have what it takes to get your own accounts, invoice, file all tax/employment/sales paperwork with your state and the federal government, can wait to pay your bills until the account has paid you, discount invoices for TAT that your employees do not meet or quality that is not perfect, deal with customers that nickel and dime you to death, give up time off because no one can cover for you, give up holidays so that your employees can spend time with their families, give up hot meals as someone always seems to drop the ball as the day goes on, negotiate to keep customers as each contract expires in an industry where prices are going down not up, then do it.

If you can do better than us, be my guest.

Yes, some big wigs at some of the huge companies make a lot of money, but for the most part, most MTSOs make a good living, not great.  If I put my hours end to end, I put in the equivalent of two full time jobs.  If I worked two full time jobs for someone else, I would make more than I do running a service.

Before you b**tch and moan about the company you work for any more, ask yourself this question --- why are you still in this field?  The answers are easy --- it is a good field, MTs make excellent money for working at home, most without master's degrees or doctorates, there is some flexibility, opportunity to advance, ability to learn something every day, satisfaction knowing that an accurately transcribed report can make someone's treatment more effective or save a life (rather than having inaccurate medical records) and much, much more.

The average teacher starts in the 20s, the average accountant in the 30s, the average computer person in the 30s.  We have potentially unlimited income and start in the 20s and move up rapidly.  Several MTs in our company topped 100k this year.  They would never have that opportunity in a different field.

We need to stop bashing each other.  It is not MTSOs vs MTs.  It should be working together as a team.  Teams that don't play well together do not succeed.

The reason MTs get paid nothing and treated like doormats is they're
Expect nothing, and you GET nothing.
Only post I found was from 2006 that said the MTs aren't treated
s
You could almost put any company's name in there anymore. We are all treated like mindless idiot
i have asked for other transcritpionists email addresses to see if we could put our heads together like for example learning speech and helping each other. No deal, was just ignored. Lied to constantly just because we can't see the work. It is an insult. Wish I had never gotten into this profession. I was even excited when we could work at home thinking it was going to be more lucrative financially, and it should be but when transcription companies spend millions of dollars buying each other something is wrong, wrong, wrong.
I have talked to MANY DSG workers who are badly treated. I chose to move on when I had enough!
Feel sorry for those who are miserable and stay anyway.
Loyalty has nothing to do with it until you find the company for you. Be loyal to THAT company.
:p
What good does it do? They've lied, they've betrayed us.

They've taken all they are going to take from me.   I am not going to waste any more time being angry.   I hate the way things ended, but I refuse to accept the blame for any part of it because I know that was a lie too, even though they did try to blame the MTs.  I know part of the problem was quality issues, but QA wasn't to blame for that either, although they have been.

It is time to pick up and move on.   I think mgmt will reap what they sow.   For those who worked on the main account Webmedx is still hiring, though the best time slots have already been taken.

What the heck? I've never heard that in the 8 yrs I've worked here. sm
Go back to your STM or over his or her head.
Since you've brought it up, I've stopped SM

giving the negative info because every time I have in the past I am called a disgruntled ex-employee or told that my experience has no relation to what the company is like today.

I won't repeat the information I've given in the past, anyone can find it on searches.  I've decided to just let the people have their experience with the company and that experience will validate everything I've ever said about those people.

The same people own and run that company--they may have new names doing the management, but it still runs the same way.
