Anyone get the feeling that the "up your meds" comment
comes from the same, histrionic indivual each and every time? Lordy, am I TIRED of these insinuations that everyone who doesn't agree with it must be off their meds.

"Can" and "will" are two different things. Just like "up to" can mean zero! nm

Lots of people have been burned by them..be careful, very careful. NM
xx
Notice is a courtesy, not a rule and they don't give you notice when they fire you
Giving a 2-week notice is common courtesy, and in most all my jobs, I have given them that courtesy; however, a company never gives someone notice when they are firing them. In my opinion, if a company does not treat their employees right, they do not deserve to get any notice at all.

As a matter of fact, I just left a company without notice. I felt horrible about doing it to my team but not to the company. While they never messed up on my pay, I was under constant stress. They treated several other people horribly and also changed all the terms of my employment contract within months of hiring me, which was going to cost me $800 a paycheck. I am the major breadwinner for a family of five and couldn't hang around a second longer losing that kind of money.

The only reason you would not want to quit without notice is if you want to use them as a reference and/or want the chance to go back to them in the future. I was advised by a recruiter that you should never put anything on your resume that is less than a year, so you really don't want to use them as a reference anyway, and you certainly don't want to go back to them.

Messing with someone's money is a big NO-NO, especially when they are costing you $400 for a second time. Heck no, I wouldn't give these people notice. There are some great companies out there hiring right now.

Feel free to contact me by email if you would like some more detailed information about the companies I narrowed my search down to. I was very sceptical about trusting another company with the bad luck I've had (just as you have) in the last few years, but I think I finally found somewhere I can be happy at for a long, long time (of course only time will tell, but I'm feeling very optimistic).

:) Best of luck to you!
i could do 2500 to 3000 on ER too
You have life in the easy lane... ER docs, the same 10-20 at most day in and day out.. Try basic 4 with antiquated platforms (meditech) and 2000-5000 dictators to try and get a handle on.
2500 deductible
Does this still have the 2500 deductible? Doesnt pay copays to doctor visits either?
I use DOS Meditech and get 2500 lines per day. sm
Use your Expanders for everything. Once you are used to it, it is as easy or even easier to get lines as any other program out there.

2500 to 3000 a month is not unreasonable. SM
I do about 2000-2500. It depends on the work type. I like OP notes (if I am fortunate enough to get them). ERs would be nice too, but haven't done those in years. I work for MQ.
I have made $2500-3000 for a national, but....
I have to work seven days a week 12-15 hours a day to do that and end up having no life and no benefits. I am giving this up and going to work for a local hospital. I know that at first I will not make the same, but it is worth it to me to go to work for 8 hours and be done instead of dragging it out up to 15 hours a day and not making that much less. Actually, over 8 hours in a hospital I do make more than working 8 hours at home. It makes me tired and grouchy and my family is tired of me being at home like that. I feel so much pressure every day trying to make a decent line count and it just takes too long. I want to get a life..
Anyone see the $2500 signon bonus with eSmartMed? Do you

Just curious.

I wrote to the address MS McNair gave but got an autoresponder telling me she is out on vacation and if I need help to contact my account manager or supervisor.  LOL

I wrote to point out the NUMEROUS spelling errors on their website.

I usually average anywhere between 2500-3000 lines per shift
at KS.
$2500 gross a month working for a national

Wow .. if I could do 2000-2500 lph, I'd be living next door to the Rockefellers. nm :-)

is the deductible for insurance still 2500 bucks w/ no copay for doc visit?
That is the sole reason I quit. That and the fact they switched me from account to account as soon as I started making a decent line rate with one.

They also have the ability to slow down how fast you can download files. They slipped and told me that it was to help control traffic on the server.
are on to catch up.

It's a catch-22 sm
It can be pretty hard for people who need insurance (no spouse with good insurance, etc) to take a job (even if it is with a wonderful company) where the insurance is too expensive for them to afford until enough people come on board to get a lower group insurance.  If you come from a company where you had insurance and can afford to keep it via COBRA until the company has enough people to participate in the group insurance, then maybe it can work out.  However, if it takes too long, then you are in deep trouble because the COBRA only lasts so long.
Looks like OSI can't catch a break

Good catch on that - sm
I don't want to try out new and improved if the last was old and crappy.
Yes I an employee and I don't see any catch.

The majority of the companies do not reimburse LD/internet fees.  They did loan me a C-phone for free, most won't supply or they rent them to you.

Doing away with my home phone and getting digital phone actually lowers my expenses, as my costs from BellSouth/AT&T were more than my digital line is, so I don't see that I'm out anything.

In the ads they clearly state you need ULD and they don't mention anything about reimbursement.  They have been completely up front about it and you can make your choice, go with them or don't.

You still have today to catch up. nm
nm
Actually they are offering it, must be a catch, but they
xx
If you don't catch all the nonsense
nm
Did you catch the errors after you sent it
Or did the company call them to your attention?

You can always correct the errors and resend it, asking them to disregard the first submission if you caught the errors.

Thanks. Guess I need to catch up with the times. :-) nm

Catch up with the times. Unfortunately, MTSOs are in
For those who still need the personal one-on-one attention, they should go back inhouse or get their own accounts.

it's such a catch 22. Everybody wants cheap stuff yet
and get paid top dollar. You simply cannot have both. Not with the CEOs having million dollar salaries and all. because God forbid they make less than six figures. it's disgusting...
Sign on bonuses-What's the catch?
Hi.  When a company offers something like a $1000 sign-on bonus in one of their classified ads, what conditions do MTs usually have to meet to actually qualify for just such a bonus, and if those conditions are met, how long does the MT usually have to wait for the bonus?  I am personally not looking for a new job right now, but when I see those adds, I ALWAYS think - Yeah, right, what's the catch?
Horrid hours.. thats the catch SM
I have to wonder, what hourly rate are they setting you up for?
No, I did not catch the joke, thought you were serious
When you spoke of the labor board was wondering why contact them about this. Do you work doing VR or straight? I personally think 3 cents a line is ridiculous for VR. I make what I am satisfied with on VR because I find my platform easy, very good with ESLs BUT I do not think VR will take over completely. I have done VR now for about 7 years and you cannot just leave a machine to run and not check behind it sometime, such it is with VR.
Brilliant! a real catch-22
And you cannot keep copies because of HIPPA so you cannot win.
funny, I catch this ad at top of screen

U.S. Based proofers?  Kinda curious needing MTs to clean up the reports, geez

9.9 Cents / 65 Char. line

"Twisting the Knob" - right??? That's why it's so hard to catch them
include or exclude characters or letters to count.
Yep, my work is low this week too. Previouly, however, we could not catch it up. Is it all the ..SM

new hires, do you think?  They haven't told me to take the day off or anything, but there are big gaps in my downloads.  I love QT but it's times like these that make my eyes wander to the ads.  Funny how when we're busy, I type faster, too.  When it's like this, I just casually and nonchalantly go about typing during the day, getting up and down as I please, no hurry at all.  Maybe I'll start looking at part-time supplements -- then if work runs really dry, I'l already have my foot in the door somewhere else.

We have been slammed with work and plaing catch up
doesnt make sense to me
No company name given. Now that's a shock. What's the catch?? I doubt the adminstrator will le
stay there anyway so you better apply before it gone LOL..I just don't feel gullible or vulnerable today..
Nope, not a catch. The only thing you need to do to qualify I think is have been there one year in
to be eligible. They pay like four weeks at full pay (your average weekly earnings) or eight weeks at half pay. Your choice. They strongly believe that it's the right thing to do.
I found Medrite to be slow -- would type and watch it try to catch up with me. sm

I went from 250-300 lph to 180-200 lph with it.  Plus it has this spy stuff (I called it), where if you are gone longer than such amount of time, when you come back, you have to say why you were gone (it has things to choose from).  I didn't care for it, but obviously some must.

Good luck!

I said that I do 1600+ per day. Most days, I am over 2500-3000 lines per day. 1600 is the personal
I do not work overtime except very, very occasionally. I use my Expanders and know my account inside out. It IS possible no matter how many people try to say that it is not. I rarely post here because I see people chopped to pieces when they say they make good money, no matter who they work for. It is as though only the negative voices are heard here.
sure sounds swell. Sounds like 2350 ln/day @ 4 cents/ln=$90./day
in order to figure how many line needs to be produced to make $500 per pay period. ie, how many lines an hour needed per 8 hour day --at your rate.

So say $450 a week would be $90 a day.
For example, if making 4 cents a line, need 2,250 lines a day, 281 an HOUR (to listen through and edit) to make this great wage of $90. a day FOR ALL THIS SAME SKILL, TO KEEP UPDATED WITH CHANGING MEDICAL COMMUNITY. nope Better at Jack-in-Box Pass it up.
It's Monday. Everyone plays catch up on Monday. Give 'em

Be careful
Be careful
All I can say is be careful...
You will get a great offer, good training and be happy as a lark ... until you're out on your own, no one from IT will respond to your inquiries about technical problems, and they'll train you on one account (one that gives you great line counts) and then presto-chango, you're typing every ESL doc they dug out from wherever it is they hatch them from and you'll make ZERO dollars. I think the problem here is, like a lot of others, the good dicatators are going through VR (you'll notice, Transcend has a TON of openings for VR editors), and we (the MTs) are getting stuck with the dopes who cannot talk. I'm giving some serious thought to switching to editing - I'd rather do that and do twice the work, than try to figure out what these jokers are saying. Anyway, I was making great money during training with Transcend, but am now LOSING money and trying to decide if I should look elsewhere.
Be careful, though
My training went exceptionally well and I was on cloud 9. Then - WHAM!!! They put me on the account I was hired for (of course, no one told me it was different than the one I trained on), and it is AWFUL. I made great money right after training, until this new account ... now I'm taking a loss. These dictators are AWFUL - so I hope for your sake, when your training is over, they don't do the same to you.
Be careful. (sm)
I don't know if they do this anymore, but I was hired at a gross line count and then they changed things after hiring. I did the math, and I came out as losing money. Many others were complaining of the same bait and switch at the time.

I also ran into the absolute rudest QA staff of my long career at JLG. It sounded like the owner was going to try to straighten them out at the time, but I didn't stick around to see whether she did.

I had the highest line rate at JLG that I've ever had (13 cents, can't remember if with or without spaces); however, the constant running out of work and being asked to take the day off!, constant switching around of accounts combined with the rudest QA ever made it absolutely not worth it. I've come to the point I realize that it's the entire package an MT has to look at. Others have paid less, but I've been happier.

I hope this helps. I know you asked for those with a happy experience, but I thought I'd give you an honest experience.
Be careful
Whether you can do it or not depends on what they hire you for. Look at the postings a few days ago where people talk about the one account with all the ESLs that people scream about.
Be careful with them
Good pay, but many many problems. 2 yrs with them & I can't take it any more.
Careful about A. They will tell you
that you are hired for tier 3, but then say they meant 2 or 1 and give you a much lower rate!!
Be very careful.

You're not supposed to be sending intercompany information anywhere.  I would get it in writing first that your ISP isn't going to be tracked and your info handed over to Transcend so they can fire you.  With all the info on this board about what they are doing, Transcend still has their weekly cattle calls on the job seekers' board, so it doesn't look like Transcend is going to lose anything.

Just be very careful.

Be careful
There are huge tax implications. Yes, you get to deduct for certain home-office expenses, but only under specific guidelines and there is a minimum amount that you must have spent out of pocket. If the company is paying you very, very well, then I'd say go for it. Under no circumstances should you take an IC/statutory emp. (where they pay no taxes) job at the same rate of pay as an employee. Please take the time to consult with a tax person before getting yourself in what could be a very expensive proposition. You won't be sorry.
