Anyone else going to Cancun for Spring Break and concerned about current safety concerns

We're all set to go to Cancun for Spring Break and then we hear all of this on the news about people being careful in Mexico because of the drug cartel activities and killings etc. Does this even involve Cancun or is it just the border places. The Spring Breakers are being warned about going so it makes me wonder if it is just the borders as most Spring Breakers do not go to the border towns. Does anyone have anymore information. I have a good friend who met her husband in Mexico, has crossed the borders etc and she said going to Mexico isnt worth risking your life because they hate Americans. Yikes.. I don't know whether to go or not or if I'm just being paranoid now.

Spring Break
Our Spring Break is the week of the 13th. That's one of the weeks I take off from work so we can do things with the kids. Usually we take our vacation then and go away. Luckily it's usually half way decent here so at least the kids can go out and get some fresh air and play with the other kids in the neighborhood. Does your school district have any type of program for the kids during the break? Here there's a camp that the kids can go to at various locations.
Spring Break!!! Let's go to the Labrador Islands!!

What concerns me...(sm)
You've correctly identified that this sort of behavior using his work computer is risky, and I'm wondering if that's part of the appeal.

The problem itself is obviously not just a "male" issue. Not only are there plenty of females looking at porn nowadays, but obviously there are lots of females (and males) participating as subjects in the porn - and not on the "professional" level like it used to be, but ordinary "everyday" people doing it as "amateurs" for no money or anything like that, and posting their pictures all over the Web.

While I'm sure it's true that most men would look if a porno pic (or on TV, etc.) popped up in front of them, it's true of a lot of women, too. This is becoming much more of a "unisex" problem, and all of the media are exploiting it for all it's worth.

If it's any comfort at all, most of this kind of activity usually dies down as people mature and get a handle on their hormones. If not, some addiction therapy might be necessary because there's nothing constructive about wasting life's precious minutes viewing porn.
Dirt concerns
Your daughter could get head lice from the girl coming to your house, from school, etc.  Let  her go to the party, and have her take a shower when she comes home!
Well just jump in there with your concerns..
All men are created equal. It is understood that the "women" are included.

No safer here than in Cancun
I have traveled out of the country for years, myself and my children and have never had any harm done to us. I intend to go again this year but I travel alone, meet up with a group and tour then. A single female, OMG....
Do her parents share your concerns?-nm

We stayed at a Riu Caribe in Cancun and
had a fantastic time. Friends of ours have stayed at one of the other ones in Cancun (there are 3) and all are great.
I have been to Cancun and several parts of Mexico and
never ever had a bad time there. If you want a hate America type situation, go to Greece. Mexico is a wonderful place for a vacation. My daughter just went to Cancun this past year as she does every year and we always have a great time.
yeah but...Mexico is gorgeous. Hey, I went to Cancun. I look at sm
it this way: If more of us were to vacation and spend our money there enjoying their gorgeous wild life and pretty beaches, that would give them plenty of tourist money and they wouldn't have to leave their country! I respect those hard-working Mexicans who stay in Mexico (like the ones who courted us at the resort), and I support the likes of them. They work hard, stay in their country, and I will give them good tips and help them to help their families as I enjoy snorkeling, deep sea fishing, and great food.

I wouldn't put all Mexicans into a box and say that you wouldn't give them a dime. Yes, there are illegals here who have no morals and I certainly don't support them! But, like I said, I do support those hard-working ones who are staying in their own country. I don't see a problem in that.
Safety first and she is related to you
You have to put fears of rejection and people's reactions aside and put the safety of the child first. I would definitely want to know!!! On the other hand, I see people who live near me who don't watch their kids. I saw girls going in the woods every day at age 13 and smoking and drinking but the mothers of these kids probably actually know about it or don't care. If you think your sister would care, you better hurry up!!! Just tell her you don't know if it's true but you heard something disturbing and you think it's a safety issue otherwise you would mind your own business. If the kid gets hurt will you be sorry you minded your own business. Somebody better tell me if anything like that is going on . I'd be thanking you. But I do watch my teens.
Help is a safety net you have paid for sm
Food stamps are a safety net we all pay for, all forms of public assistance are things we have been paying for all along. TAKE the help you need! Do move closer to family if you possibly can.

I have been in your shoes myself. I lost my home to foreclosure 4 years ago because of having a near-fatal drug interaction and losing my job of nearly 7 years. I made a couple of moves and finally ended up in a small town out of state from where I had lived for 30 years. I lived with a close friend for about 9 months and had the opportunity to buy a mobile home for $3000. The people I bought it from said I could make payments and I was able to pay it off in 5 months. It needed a lot of work and it has gotten it, most of which I have done myself. This project really helped me to regain parts of myself I had lost. It gave me a reason to get up and get going on my days off. I turned this ugly old thing into a lovely, comfortable home I cherish. I have lost about 50-60 lbs since living here and I have brought the idea of vastly cutting expenses in line with making more money. The end result is that I am very well off financially, better than in my entire life.

DO get medication to help you if you can. I didn't have medication to help because I am allergic to every psychotropic in existence. I did this by pulling myself up by the boot straps, but if I could have had help, I would have. There IS a brighter future out there. You CAN have that brighter future because you DESERVE IT. That said, no one expects you to get there alone!!!

Don't be embarrassed to ask and receive help. You will be able to help others later. Years ago, when my kids were young, I was a single parent, no support and it was Christmas time. My kids didn't even have adequate clothing or food. A neighbor I hardly knew handed me a Christmas card. Inside was a $100 gift card to K-Mart. She said that many years before that, she had been in my shoes and someone had given her $100 one Christmas, she was now paying this forward to me. The only provision was that I return this favor when I could, and that I bought something for myself too because I deserve nice things for my hard work. It was a turning point for me. I have been more of a giver since. Although I could have paid this back last year, I didn't know anyone who would appropriately benefit. This year, I do and I had to tell her that I was going to do this and why. She cried and felt embarrassed because, she said, she was usually in the position to give and it hurt a little to receive. I reminded her that she was GIVING me the gift of giving with pleasure.

Others are going to give to you with pleasure, love, friendship and concern for your well being. TAKE IT. One day you'll post back here about how good things are and I'll want to hear it.

Mary, I offer my prayers for the safety of your sons. SM
I thought brothers could not be in battle zones at the same time. Did they choose to?
Start with safety, then energy efficiency, then the pretty stuff.
We live in a house built in 1915, and we bought it in 1985. It was in a very, very sad state. We're still working on it, and are even re-doing things we fixed years ago. Firstly, make sure that everything is safe. Could the wiring cause a fire? Fix that for sure! How about the plumbing, roofing, gutters, all the things that can cause water damage when in disrepair. Water damage is a really awful thing. If all of that is ok, try to save some money with some energy efficient things. We have more than 50 windows in our house, and bit by bit we've replaced most of them. I love the tilt-in, easy-to-clean new windows that are also energy efficient. We also replaced our boiler. (We have hot water heat in the winter and elaborate, cast iron radiators from the 1920s.) That saved us lots of money over the long run. Same with the hot water heater. (We don't have a/c.)
For the fun stuff, I used to love going to Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, and just walk around to get some ideas. They also sell really nice design books. And then, there's t.v. Check out home and garden network, style, and DIY networks. They all have websites. Google the style of design that you like and see what nice ideas you can find. The computer makes research so easy!
Enjoy!
Food safety question - left chicken in oven overnight (sm)
I baked two pans of chicken last night and one of them I forgot and left in the oven all night.  It has not been touched or opened since being cooked.  If I reheat it today do you think it is ok to eat or would you be afraid of food poisoning???
Well, with his current predicament, I'm not surprised
Is he careless or just stoopid? lol
Current hairstyles..to RetroMT
I don't think it will be an easy task to find any beauticians like we had in the old days. I am really exasperated in my "do" I have been attempting to grow from very short style with the aid of a very expensive guy who states the style is coming along nicely. This is third time I have went to him and he says the style he is trying to do is "coming along" nicely. It looks nice one day, then the rest of the days, I am back to wearing one of my hats and/or wigs. I don't think I will continue much longer, too expensive just for what??

But I do know what style you are talking about, hope you can find someone that thinks that way. I don't recall if I had many of those
sets"
My current husband is just the opposite...
In the 8 years we have been married he has paid over $97,000 in child support for his 2 children. His youngest daughter is getting married (and will be giving up the rest of her child support) and the child support will finally end. There are dads and moms out there who do pay their support. I hope you all get the back money owed to you. My ex owes my 2 daughters between 20-25 thousand. I never counted on it in the first place and when it sporadically came in I was happy, kind of like a bonus every now and then.

so with the current state of the economy
Banks aren't safe anymore...I think i would buy up lots of $100,000 homes and rent them out...since the forclosure rate is so high more people wil be renting.  Then when the economy turns back around I can sell my property.  Better than putting money in the bank!

Your current favorite shows to watch?
My #1 is biggest loser! I absolutely LOVE this show (watchin it now). it always makes me tear up so much! I love the inspiration of these people. oh i love it so much!!! At the end of the show I always feel like I know them and I'm so proud of them. haha

My other ones are My Sunday shows: Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Desperate Housewives and Brothers&Sisters

Monday The Bachelor
Tuesday Biggest Loser and Law&Order SVU

that's about it for the week!!

I do that in the spring. I usually get a tool
and clip the dead parts back and remove them. It just makes them look all fresh and pretty, and then the dead sticks won't tear up the leaves if you get any wind. I am not certain if it is essential, but it improves the look a lot.
I wait until spring, too sm

I figure the dead leaves and stalks offer a little protection from the cold. The bed where I have the hydrangea stayed iced over for more than a week this past winter, and I thought I had lost the hydrangea. But in the spring I could feel that the branches were still supple and smooth at the bottom so we just cleared out the dead leaves, trimmed off the dead tips, and it came back beautifully. It has blossoms all over it that are getting ready to burst into bloom.

We just moved into this house last summer and I planted the hydrangea in a place where I thought it would have enough shade, but we had a bunch of 100+ degree days I was afraid the heat had killed it....until the cold came along and then I thought the same thing about the cold. But it is definitely "the little hydrangea that could"!!

We are getting chickens this spring. .sm
So I have been doing a lot of reading about eggs and chickens. And yes, I have been very bored lately!
IMO a current PDR (Physicians Desk Reference), which runs about $200.00 (sm)
but WELL worth the expense.
Here is a great site that lists all current deals on CCs......
Use the drop down menu to search the different features. I have used it to find balance transfer deals, etc.
It just shows the current moral climate of our country...
you can advertise a site offeriing help to have an extramarital affairs but don't try to push anythig that has anything to do with morals or values such as church, God, taking personal responsibility, etc. Very troubling times indeed.
Anyone use FitDay online for health concerns and then get the FitDay full
version?  Wondering if it will help more - if it is worth the $$.  Overall, I like the FitDay free online.  TYIA.

She was a terrible mother, a drug addict and general white trash who screwed her way into some money and fame.  I think that putting her son on that reality show was akin to abuse and the daughter might now have a chance at a normal life, money or no.  Everyone on the news is acting like she was Mother Theresa, when in truth she made all of her own problems and problems for everyone around her.  I have no sympathy for anyone involved, but do hope the best for her daughter.  As far as those 2 screwballs who claim to be the father, they both probably see $$$ signs.  The baby should go to an actual normal and loving home to be raised as a normal child!  I am sick of hearing what a great gal she was, because she was not and her being dead does not change that!
Very concerned about you....sm
There is nothing "cool" about an eating disorder!  You may want to lose weight, but that is not the way to go nor would it get you the attention you want.  I think you definitely need to seek some help.  Why don't you talk with your family doctor to start.

If you are really concerned,
which I would certainly be, you could call Patient Relations at the hospital and set up a meeting to discuss things. That is a huge mistake and according to HIPAA I would think it should be reported and documented, not necessarily by you but the staff. It's not as if you are trying to get someone "in trouble" but you could tell them you are concerned and want to make sure the opposite doesn't happen. What if someone would have authorized comfort measures for your father instead of real treatment? That is potentially a very serious matter that I think the hospital would want to know about, if they don't already.
And I don’t consider you concerned....

Should I be concerned sm

My 9 y/o son tells me that a boy on his bus (we'll call him Joe) who my son doesn't like him because of picking on kids i think, had been suspended from school for pulling a knife on someone.  This boy is in the 5th grade.  I asked the bus driver about this and she said yes he did do this but "Joe" wasn't the instigator it was the other boy who said to "Joe" that he was going to kill him and I don't know what else this other boy said.  So this other boy was suspended for the rest of the school year.  Now, should I be concerned that the school didn't let us know anything about this incident, or am I overreacting?  I don't know the whole story, but this "Joe" rides the bus with my kids and supposedly pulls a knife on someone.  That worries me.  So I just don't know if I should say something or not. I'm glad the school suspended the boy for the rest of the school year.  It's just kind of scary, this is elementary we are talking about and it's K through 6th grade.  The bus drive said they are supposed to be "hush hush" about it.  Obviously it got out somehow because my son told me about it.

Thanks for listening and any input you might have.

If you are concerned about not seeing GC
look into grandparent's rights now. Lawyers do not have to cost a lot of money either. Search for legal aid and your county online. From what I understand GP rights are pretty cut and dry, usually 1 weekend a month, and your son's visitation has nothing to do with your rights as a GP.
I'm more concerned about

the bussing issue and the younger kids being exposed to the older kids.  My kids have learned so much.  I'm not saying they don't watch TV, but I monitor what they're watching.  My kids watch primarily Disney and Nick.  My younger ones certainly didn't know about sex until they changed the bussing issue.

While childcare is an issue for a lot of other parents, fortunately for me I work from home.  I actually don't mind sleeping in an extra hour or 2.  My concern in this regard is the fact that they're tacking on all these extra days at the end of the year when it's hot and we don't have central air for these kids.  I know that we didn't have A/C when I was a kid, but the weather has changed a lot since then.  We actually had to dismiss early last year because of the heat.

I really think that this superintendent has too much power and is making changes that the parents are not in agreement with.  I know there is a school board election, but I don't know much more, like when the elections are, etc.  What's the timeline for school board members, i.e. how long do they sit and when are they elected?  Do they have to be re-elected or do they get to stay on until they decide to leave?  Is there a parent advocate to help mediate some of these situations?  I don't usually get too involved in the small-town politics, but I think it might be time to at least go to the meetings and see what's going on.  I don't want to wait until it's too late and then sit back and complain because I didn't do anything.

Thanks for responding!

I would be concerned but
I have stayed there numerous times in the past and never had a problem. They have an emergency number to call if there is a problem but I've never had a problem. The only reason I am concerned now is because my fiance is concerned - he's never been and thinks it must be a dump if they don't have a 24-hour desk clerk. I have always found it to be clean and well maintained. It is a small, family owned hotel, the price is excellent but there are drawbacks - no 24 hour desk clerk being one of them. To me it is worth it, but I'm not sure the fiance is going to think so. I hope this vacation doesn't cause us problems. He left the planning to me and was quite happy when I told him the price of the room.

My animals have spring fever
MY 2 cars, one is 13+ and the other is almost 7 are bugging me along with my dog to play, and just pay some attention to them.  It is nice outside and they sure have the spring bug.  Hard to resist them.  Just took the dog for a long run in the park with another neighbor's puppy and though it would calm her down but now, she bring in her stuffed animals and when I ignore her she will throw them at my chair to get my attention.  So I keep taking 5 to 10 minutes to play and now am behind.  Oh well, it only happens a couple of times a year so gotta enjoy it.   But even the 13 year old is sitting on my desk, which she never does, and playing with my papers, pens, knocking things down and then just looking at me, like "Did I do that."   But it is so nice here in Portland today, up to 60 gotta take advantage as will probably rain tomorrow.
I saw my first robin of spring this morning!

I guess spring really is coming, even though we're still under 18" of snow in my neighborhood (yeah, it's shady in here).  I'm about 30 miles north of Albany, NY.  Anybody see a robin farther north?

spring cleaning blinds
I have blinds on my windows that are dusty and yucky.  I'm wondering if anyone has a good way to clean them without taking them down.
if you go to Pismo...go in the spring or fall...
Summer is very very foggy most of the time (I went to college in San Luis Obispo about 15 miles away). Also, if you do go, you MUST go to Del's pizza in Shell Beach for dinner one night. Fairly inexpensive and very good food--not just pizza. In my opinion, it is the best restaraunt in the area.
