I agree...I think most of us in this age group don't find sewing a basic skill...

I agree totally. This group could not
compare to the first. There is only 1 more group left. I personally liked Allison (the redhead), and Kris (the guy after her), and Adam. He has been 1 of my favorites from the beginning. I also wanted to like Kai and was disappointed with his performance.
Agree with last night's group
I wasn't wowed by anyone last night really. Obviously Lil was good, and I actually did like the one girl who had been brought back... can't remember her name. I didn't think any of the guys were that great. That kid who did That's Why They Call It The Blues... that was embarassing. I find it surprising that they passed up other people for some of them that they have in the 36. Anyone, I thought week 1 was much better and even thought last week was better than this group. As far as the format, I don't like it all that much either. However, I do remember that my Clay, still my favorite then and forever (lol), ended up on the show as a wildcard.
I agree with this. It can take time to find the right meds,
and you are being very affected by his difficulties, so I think you should go together. Men are very resistant to opening up, but you have a child, so that may help motivate you to try to see him through this. I know you have endured it for a long time, but he is going to need help to come out of this. See if Christian marriage counseling is available; you could actually see somebody alone to get support and insights into helping him in addition to going with him to see his therapist.

I'll pray you have the strength to endure and continue to be his soft place to land as he learns to stand up and manage his life like the household leader God wants him to be.
But it IS basic
In fact, I've noticed most anything I've bought in the last few years is so cheaply made that I have to reinforce the thread, if I don't it starts to fall apart after a wash or two.  I'm a pack rat for all my old clothes (amazing how many sizes I have, and how out of style they are too, some of them have even been back into fashion, LOL), and I know simply by comparing a T-shirt from 1979 and a t-shirt bought today, the quality of what you buy off the rack has gone steadily down hill.  Anyway, I'm darned if I'm only wearing an item twice, so I repair it and continue to wear it!  (That's a catchy little jingle that should become the new mantra - repair and wear!)
A tea-length basic black dress?
What kind of company does your husband work for? Would that help in your decision? My opinion is you can't go wrong with black. Accessorize to make the dress "pop". Nicely of course. Congrats to your husband for his award.
Basic skills best learned at home
It's kind of hit and miss as to whether kids learn to cook, sew, etc in school. Although I HATE using a sewing machine, I think basic handsewing is a life skill and taught my teenage girls to sew on buttons and mend rips. They also know how to do basic cooking, ironing, and have done their own laundry for years. My college daughter lives with two other girls, 19 and 20, and neither one of them can sew on a button (my daughter does it for them). Apparently their mothers never taught them.
Not talking insurance, just basic care and the cost for that.

Question about sewing
Hi all!  I have been looking high and low for a valance for my sliding patio door.  I found what I liked but they are curtain/panels,  it does not come in a 'valance'.  The panel comes in a package of 2, 54" x 50", can this be made into valances?  Obviously the top part will work, but I also want to make 2 more out of the material, or should I buy 2 packages of 4 panels?   The size I would need for all would be (for the slider and 2 other windows)  3 x 68" for the slider, 2 x 24" for the 2 smaller windows next to it.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks so much!!!

34 and quite capable of sewing -- sm

I took 5 years of home ec beginning in the 8th grade.  I sewed an outfit from scratch every year.  I'm not big on the sewing machine thing, but I can certainly fix a hem or torn seam and have sewed more buttons than I can count.

I don't think it's trend of ages, just that some do and some don't.  I personally don't enjoy it, but it's a skill that comes in handy every now and then.  When I worked in the office, I always kept a travel sewing kit just for emergencies and it came in handy more than once.

I have sons, but I will teach them how to sew buttons and seams.

If you have a specialty sewing store
near you, you might want to call them and ask for their suggestions. They might be able to help or at least point you in the right direction.
Take a sewing class, and take the machine - sm
with you. There you will learn how to use it and how to sew too. I have been sewing since I took home-ec in 7th grade. I have a Singer that is about 20 years old or more. It is a pretty basic one with about 12 different stitch types. Have never had an issue. Sounds like you don't have the bobbin in right or wound wrong, and the tension too tight too. The tension is adjusted with the different fabrics you use, and the thread of course. But sounds like you need a simple "how to sew" class. Call a local craft store and see what they offer. Even one private lesson would probably do you a world of good. Good luck.
I'm butting in here but sewing classes LOL

I took home ec in school too. Dresses were always too short in length or in sleeves. My parents sent me to Singer Sewing School for 2 years. I STILL can't sew. . . but sure wish I could. I don't even own a sewing machine, but have 2 of them sitting in storage (1 mom's, 1 DH's mom's).

BTW, my mom couldn't sew either. My father used to do any sewing that was needed in the house.

Sewing machines make me crazy...sm
I had my mom's old machine. I kept it for a few years because I would make my son's costumes at Halloween and things. Well it was such a pain in the a** I told my mom a few months ago she could take the thing back. I would have problems getting the dang thing started. Or either be sewing along and realize it wasn't actually sewing. It never went smoothly and it fustrated me. So I said enough of this.
Michael's and other craft/sewing stores have kits to make
s
I didn't take sewing in high school because I was taking chemistry...sm
...and and journalism and AP english and economics...

It's generational because our mothers and grandmothers and others fought for us to be able to pursue skills other than baking and sewing.

Yes, I can sew on a button and fix a ripped seam and create curtains and pillow covers. I can follow a recipe and cook a meal. But I didn't learn this in school, I learned it at home.

Find a lawyer, find out where you would stand - sm
in the event of a divorce/separation, regarding custody, house, etc. Custody was my main concern as well since I lied on numerous occasions about the finances. Where I am I was told that would not factor in to the custody at all. I can prove that I am my kids caregiver 90% of the time, I ferry they around everywhere, help with homework, get ready for school, meet at busstop, etc. I could also point out my husband is an alcoholic, self treats his depression with alcohol instead of getting proper medical treatment, has threatend to kill himself (or me) numerous times (though he always says he was joking and did not mean it.....that is his standard answer to everything, or that he never said that). Now I do love him enough to deal with all that because deep down inside my DH is full of it, luckily for me, he has never followed through on anything he says he is going to do. But I thought my confession would be the straw that broke it all and send him over the edge. He still is angry with me, I am sure he will be for a long time, but is keeping it together pretty well, though he has said the stress was going to kill him, now he know how I felt I guess. I am sorry your husband is such a smuck. I feel like a dog sometimes with the sex demands, have to do it the night before he goes out of town....he will be traveling a lot for work for the next 3-4 months, which I am more than glad about, much calmer here then, though it gets tiring for me but as he is not really helping much right now it really won't be much of a change. As for yours going on 5 day weekends.....have you considered having him followed, sounds like there may be some infidelity afoot, and if so that would strengthen your case in the event of a divorce and custody I would think. Sounds a bit fishy going out until 1 a.m. and his frequent trips. My DH fishes too, but he goes 2 miles from here with one of our male neighbors, they shoot the breeze and he gets to unwind some which I encourage. Very rare weekends with a buddy of his, I am talking once every 2 years, which again is fine with me. Start keeping track of all you do, when he is home, where he supposedly goes, with whom, etc. He cannot show he will be a responsible dad if he is never there or never interacts with his own kids. My DH would probably suggest I take our older daughter and he the younger, spliting them up, he has the same perception, the oldest is mine, the youngest is his. Our younger daughter is much easier to deal with, our older daughter drives him nuts and she is only 10. My younger one (8) knows something has been going one though, and worries we will divorce, which she does not want. She is very perceptive for her years. I hope that if you do go the divorce route, which would actually probably be best in your situation, that it all works out for you and you get your fair share of assets, etc. Make sure before you do anything like that you have all your ducks in a row, so talk to divorce lawyer. I talked to one for 45 minutes, cost me $160 but was worth it to set my mind at ease. Good luck.

Group singing
I think the group songs have been much better this year than previous years I've watched. Mostly their voices blend well and pitch has been good.

Didn't Chris sing well during his solos in the group songs? I think it was just fierce competition/tough schedule that dis him in. Either that or he just wanted to go home.
The name of the group is Heartland -
I just looked up the words to see if I could find them - I did - I cried again.
Hope they are a better group than this

Choosing a group

You can pick a charity by clicking on the "Add a Charity" button at the bottom of the page.  On the next page, on the left side, is a box for the not-for-profits groups.  If you click that you will see all the groups listed.

Or you can just type in "Pet Rescue By Judy" and use that one, LOL!

Once you have selected your group you can check how much your are helping by clicking on the "amount raised" button.

Can you imagine how much MTs can help with all the searching we do!  We have the power you guys!  Don't forget to shop through this site also!  You can shop for Target, ebay and many others.  Just click on the shop through GoodSearch and shop as usual.  It really helps!  You can make GoodSearch your home page too and see just how much you can help!

Thanks for all the great responses!  May God bless you with many, many lines, easy reports and no ESLs this week!

Is this the same group against Gays?

Youth Group Name

My DH is a youth pastor, our Youth Group at the beach was called WAVES, which stood for Worship Active Voices Exclaiming Salvation.  We moved up to the mtns of our state, and he had coined the name for our Youth Group as EXCITE, which stands for Exalting Christ in Today's Environment!!.  We are still looking for a home church since we moved in Jan 2007.  My DH is getting very disheartened...  Good luck to your Youth Group.  Oh, by the way, if you live anywhere close to Myrtle Beach, SC then consider taking your youth next year to the Big God Conference on New Year's eve/day.  It is AWESOME!!

Wonder what a group of men would be saying about women?
sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Please don't group everyone under the assumption
that our jobs are unfulfilling. I enjoy my work and am very happy with my accounts.
Oh, and I think anyone can start a group there.

You can start an MTStars group most likely.  It will advertise MTStars as an MT forum and then if people use monikers, they can say who they are, or they can just be a part of the Facebook MTStars group.  I am not sure if MTStars would mind or not, so maybe we should ask the admin, but I would think the would want posters to draw their friends here.  JMO.  I don't want to step on any toes though.  It is networking and I learn a lot from Stars.

So, Yeah, Thanks for being here MTStars...

I feel bad for the 1st group. There were
several more of them that would have made the top 12 if they have been included in this group rather than their own.
If it is the group I heard about on the news...

They are an extremely disturbed church group who protest at the funerals of soldiers who died in Iraq, but get this, not against the war, but against gay people.  Nutty right?  They protest and yell that the soldiers are dying because God is punishing America for being too accepting of gay people.  Very sick.  They do this at soldiers' funerals throughout the nation, regardless of if the dead soldier is straight or gay.

I get a knot in my throat whenever I think about those poor grieving families, but Harley Davidson riders around the country have come together to form a solid line of riders between the families and the protestors.

A recently used solution against this group
was applied by Hells Angels. No joke.

The Hells Angels motorcycle group was nearby where a protest was being held and they showed up! Ran off every single one of the Westboro derelicts.

First time I've ever been in favor of Hells Angels.
Don't group all girls in that same generalization.
It is not fair. My DD as well as my nieces are all really good girls. I am not fooling myself. One niece is getting ready to leave for Liberty College becuase she wanted to attend a christian college. None of the girls dress unappropriately. They are all very good students and all but one are active in youth groups. The one that isn't has a job so that she can help out with her soon to be large college bill. Not all girls are out hunting down guys.
Oh, forgot to say females that are in a group
seem to have their periods synchronized. Just think, if all these girls got theirs at the same time, no pool for a week? Oh, I forgot, get an excuse.
I think you do want to join you're just to shy to say so - group hug? nm

There is one from the 10 Minute Solutions group.

The "Harley Group" people speak of here
Are actually the Patriot Guard Riders

http://www.patriotguard.org/

They are made up of anyone who wants to join. You don't have to ride, you can go on foot or by car.

My husband and I are riders and are really proud of all the fine people in the Patriot Guard.

They usually don't go though, unless the family requests/consents, because they don't want to cause additional grief. Instructions are to not engage troublemakers, and shield the families as much as possible.

Thank God for Patriot Guard riders!
Just got a foster dog from a local rescue group
Very sweet, but has a bad cough that's been going on for over a week. I've been asking the rescue group if I can take him in to the vet, but they keep saying no. I don't have a job, so I don't have the money to do it myself (I do have the time). I'm certain the rescue group is concerned about money, but this seems unfair to me and the dog. For all I know he could have any number of things wrong. They are telling me it's a cold, and to just wait until he's better before he goes in to be neutered.

What's the right thing to do? What should I tell the group's organizer?

Suggestions?

Thanks.

They are a largely Hispanic group though. My brother
was homeless at one point and got woken up with one chopping him up with a machete, their signature weapon. They are an extremely dangerous gang. We moved way out to get as far as we could from that stuff in a great part of town and I am seeing tags already from them.

Somehow my brother lived. He even managed to keep his arm they almost chopped off. We think it was part of an initiation.
Is there a grief support group in your town?

All very funny and cute! What a creative group of mom's!
My son wants to be a french fry this year. I had it down and was ready to make a great costume until he clarified to me that it was 1 single crinkle cut fry...now I'm lost. I'm going to the fabric/hobby store today to get ideas. I don't know how anyone is going to know what he is! lol
Ideas for Youth Group Names
I'm teaching a small youth group at our church and I'm trying to come up with a good name for them besides "(Insert church names here) Youth Group". Also, our Baptist Association has an association-wide youth group and I'm trying to come up with some ideas for them too.

(I know this is church-related but I was hoping I'd get more ideas if I put it on the Gab Board)

TIA!!
I was disappointed in the group last night basically
No one really grabbed me like I would like them to. Adam was okay but I am just not into him as well. The group overall had none of the zing felt with the first group. Oh, well, I think there is a brand new group next week, isn't that so and how many more groups are there?
My daughter started group counseling sm

She meets with the school psychologist once a week and other kids from her grade who all have coping issues, and they work on their social skills.  She is 9.  Maybe your school has a similar program?  Or maybe some internet research would turn up some group counseling in your area.

Good luck to you and your son!

An orthopedic surgeon told our group at a lecture sm
that it is not harmful to crack knuckles, etc., as it is just joint gas making a pocket that causes that noise. So crack away and enjoy!!
