Sometimes you do what you have to do (sm)

I used to always be honest and just take the brunt of my husband's anger. But one day I got sick of being fussed at about trivial things and I started lying to him & still do. I used to feel bad about it but you know what - what he is doing to you is waaay worse than you lyign to him over trivial things to protect yourself and your children. You are only doing it in self-defense, not because you have done anything wrong. I have posted before about seriously considering leaving. I have had a family emergency in the meantime and once I get over that hurdle, I'm outta here. I would try to get some help for your husband first (I tried that many times with mine). It may work for yours. If not you might want to consider leaving, but don't feel bad for lying to him. It is nothing but self-defense at this point.
