Teen girls accused of setting kitten on fire (sm)

This article made my stomach roll.  Maximum penalty (yeah, right) is 3 years in solitary confinement.  Personally, I think they should be publically whipped until they scream and then whipped until they stop screaming...but that's just me.

"A boy and his friend said they saw the smoke and heard the cat shrieking while the girls laughed."

Darlin', I saw fight fire with fire. Oh, I know, it's not being the "bigger person" BU

it's better than keeping it all inside and letting it fester.  Your MIL sounds like mine and your DH sounds like mine as well.  My husband doesn't want to deal with his mother, so he pretends he doesn't notice anything she says or does and the same goes for my FIL.  He knows how is wife is, but he just ignores it.  My husband will tell me privately "oh, you know how my mom is."  For about the first year of marriage, I bit my tongue with his mother.  But when I saw that my DH was never going to stand up for me, I decided to start biting back.  She would say stuff like "You like you've put on a little weight, sweetie." and I'd say "you look like you've put on a few years."

My MIL and I have full on yell fests sometimes.  We don't speak to each other for weeks or months because we're mad, but we always make up.  Also, my DH has come around too.  He has gotten to where instead of ignoring comments that his mother makes, before I can come back at her, he'll jump in and let her know that what she said was not acceptable.  So now there are less fights because mommy doesn't like to be called out by her baby boy.

I think for a long time my MIl was just jealous of me because she was the main woman in her son's life for years and that changed when I came into the picture.  So she turned every family gathering into a competition for her son's attention.  I hated the first years, but now being married 16 years, I really don't care if she gets all his attention when we get together.  Let her fix his food and tell him how great he is.  Gives me the day off.

I have often been accused of
not listening to my husband.  He gets so irritated with me.  Let me give you my take.  I have anxiety and often have so much going on in my head that I don't hear those around me sometimes.  Ask him if he has a lot of thoughts going on in his head.  Maybe a different perspective.
She was only accused by a tabloid, and nothing ever
came of it. On the other hand, there are plenty of photos of Jon with the girl he's been having an affair with for months and months, spending entire weeks with her away from his wife and children. What a winner.
It totally depends on what you were accused of.....
but if it were me and it was that bad, and of course if she continued to believe it after the argument, I wouldn't be going to visit her anytime soon, family or not.

Family are just *people* that happen to come from the same gene pool.

How would you treat anyone else that did this to you?
Yes..wrong setting
Did you make sure it on the right setting for viewing pictures?  I had mine set for some movie thing for a while and thought it was broken.

There's a HUGE difference between *not being an animal lover* and being a PSYCHO.
I think you are setting yourself up for a lawsuit
What gives your son the authority to check on someones records and then to tell someone else? That sounds like a lawsuit just waiting to happen. I think you probably are very naïve also if you expect your daughter to follow through on what she has said. I would really watch my steps if I were you. It happens all the time. I do not see where you should have any access to medical, jail, and so on records.
Setting up papers we need right now
In our state we have to be incorporated, have agricultural license, etc. so right now waiting for all that to come back but keep none at my home, have fosters willing to keep. I am financing the costs, including the above, plus food and medicine for injections and the like. I only want 1 thing and that is to go get the doggies and/or cats- the others may want to charge a fee "once" they have their license- until then they can rescue but cannot charge a fee. We have rehomed several older doggies as well as puppies and I am a happy girl. Just holding those little babies this morning makes everything all worth while. I will just have to work more hrs, I guess!
Apparently they are setting a certain amount you can use and if you go beyond that they can
either disconnect you for a year or charge you for the extra that you use.  This is Comcast.  I expect all the internet companies will follow suit so many are saying the internet as we know it is now going to change and become more expensive to use and we will only be allowed a base amount of usage for our flat fee we pay and beyond that we may have to pay extra for however much more we use in increments.  Time will tell what happens I guess.  What can you do.
I would use it more wisely than setting up unwed facilities
there are so many people as well as animals in this world who are in dire shape without it being due to something they have done. You have children with cancer, people with hardships, say someone's house burns down, animals thrown by the side of the roads. There are endless ways to spend money and I would never spend in a rehab for people who could have, should have chosen a different way for theirself. This applies to drug rehab as well. I would be very liberal with money gotten like this but not for any wrong reasons such as things that people knowingly bring into their lives. Too many good hardship stories out there.
Can anyone help me with info regading setting up a service?

I am at a point in my life/marriage, where I need to start my own service rather than working as an IC.  I need info/guidance on getting my own FTP site, whether I need to provide a system for docs to dictate to (handhelds?) etc.  If anyone would be willing to help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Expensive little critters, aren't they?
Feral kitten

Hi all!  I don't post here usually, but have read this board the past 3 months and love it.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with feral cats.  This kitten is in the park area my mother and I take our evening walk in.  We've went up there during the morning and he's not there and we're not sure where he goes exactly but, every evening, there he is playing in the leaves just beyond the fence where a new housing project has been going up.  We had seen him when he was very small (6 to 8 weeks old) a couple of months ago for a week or two and then he disappeared until this week.  I take him some cat food and water up every evening and he knows my voice enough now not to run too far, but he will not let you close enough to touch him.  He mews in the most pathetic way though when you talk to him and just lays there looking at you.  The second you get too close, though, he darts off further.  I guess I just wondered if anyone had any experience dealing with this and how to maybe get him to trust us a bit faster.  It's going to get too cold and snowy soon and I'm afraid the cold weather might do him in since he's so small.

I'll hush up now since I feel I've gone on and on.  It's frustrating to want to help something that won't let you.

Thanks girls!

Well said, as usual! The kitten was most likely - sm
the product of a feral or unwanted domestic litter, too. Unwanted kittens, if not killed by animal predators or disease, often end up being the victims of human predators. Or, they end up eaten alive as snake food, or tortured long-term as a laboratory animal. This incident was one more good reason why mandatory spay-&-neuter laws should be in place everywhere.

Kitten update...sm
It's been two weeks since my car became a delivery room and I'm happy to report Mama and babies are doing fine. Two of them have their eyes open, 1 is almost there and the other still has his/hers closed. They are still in the box where I put them when I took them out of my back seat and the mother hasn't moved them. She lets me peep in on them, but is right beside me when I do and then jumps in the box with them. She's a super mom. Oh, I see on the pic the dark gray one is buried in the dog pile, er, I mean kittie pile, but he's there and has dark blue eyes like the dark orange tiger. Too cute.
My kitten Stella...
She waits for me to go to bed every night and lays between DH and me and just purs and purs. She likes to sleep on my desk while I'm working, too. While I was typing this, she did a complete flip while hanging onto the lazy boy. (She's older now than she was in this picture. That was taken the day she showed up on my porch, snuck in the front door and made herself at home on that chair.)
1 year old kitten

My kitten turns 1 year old this Saturday.  Is there anything in particular to look for?  Would appreciate any feedback.

Cat/kitten housing question..
I am the proud owner of 4 Friday the 13th kittens, 3 calico and 1 orange tabby, who are courtesy of someone who dumped a pregnant mama in our area here in the country. Anyway, they are in the garage in a big computer box now, but I am leaving on vacation in 2 weeks and will be gone for 3 weeks and don't think the box will last! Does anyone know if there are cat kennels I could buy somewhere? I want to be able to leave them in the garage to keep any other cats/wildlife away from them while I am gone. I really don't have anyone to leave them with and a friend of mine will be by every 2 to 3 days to feed and water the other cats we have. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!
Can you stand another kitten update?
They are a month old today and I found a home for 2 of them with my sister-in-law. YAY!!! I'm hoping to keep the cream colored one or the orange tiger.
Why avoid Banfield? We took our kitten there for

sick kitten possible problem
Sounds like the kitten has an upper respiratory infection. it is very common in kittens under 1 year because their immune system has not built up. Upper respiratory infections can be easily treated by amoxicillin by the vet but, must be done very quickly. Upper respiratory can take the life of a kitten in a matter of 4 days if untreated. If treated the kitten will grow to live a normal happy life.
Lucky the Destructo Kitten

I learned the hard way that if something needed to be protected it needed to be put away.  Of course the learning process included several headsets, at least two foot pedals, iPod cords, alarm clock cords, speaker cords, and on and on.

My favorite was the cord that plugged in the charger for my wireless headset.  I figured that was safe as it was larger than what he usually chewed on. The little creep never did electrocute himself, either.

I was gone for several weeks straight taking care of my mom right before she died and I was only home for a couple of hours a day to check on the cats.  When I came back home for good, I noticed all the little destructive things that had gone on in my absence.  It was a nightmare.

We got a kitten about a month ago. She was litter box trained and... SM

used her litter box just fine, but out of the blue she has pooped on one of my blankets, peed in my laundry basket, and this evening peed on my bath towel right in front of me! I had just gotten out of the shower, taken the towel off and dropped it in the floor and when I turned around, she was peeing on it!

What is up with that?  I don't know much about cats being that I'm more of a dog person, but she doesn't act sick and she's playful.  I just don't get it!

Teen Sex

I understand your pain Mom; however, your "baby girl" is a young woman who is sexually active now. These are the statistics for teen sex today:

Students who have had intercourse in highschool:
40% of ninth graders
47% of tenth graders
57% of eleventh graders
72% of twelvth graders

Keep the lines of communication open. You cannot "regulate" your daughter's sex life. If you try, you will be fighting a losing battle. They will sneak around and find places to "do it." Encourage your daughter to have a female exam, Pap, and testing for STDs because that is the responsible thing ALL sexually active people should do today - not because she is "bad" or needs to be "taught a lesson about the seriousness of her actions." Trust that you have done a good job in raising her. Continue to be there for her.

TEEN DRIVING
I just dropped you an email.
teen fashion
OK, I have a teenage daughter who tells me "shaggy" hair is in for boys--nothing too clean cut. Clothes wise, American Eagle and the Buckle have trendy stuff. T-shirts with graphic designs, artsy, music related, kind of off the wall bands are popular--check out Target or Kohls for these, too. Hemp jewelry, dark-colored sneakers, pants that don't show your ankles when you sit down. Sagging is NOT hip, but not skin tight either. Don't tuck the shirts in. Just neat, but casual.

Hope this gives you an idea what to look for. Good luck!
teen clothes

For boys (my younest son is almost 16) - American eagle is hugely popular around here.  My son also likes Abercrombie but they are so ridiculously expensive.  Dockers shorts - lots of good shorts at Kohl's if you have one near you.  Also if he has a favorite band/bands - order some of their graphic T shirts online, let him express his personality.  Kids that age love those kind of T shirts.

Those of you with teen drivers....
...how did you handle speeding tickets, punishment wise? Take away their keys for XXX amount of time, ignore the first offense, ground them, etc.

teen drivers
I made my son pay his own ticket which for him was the punishment. I have to admit I speed so we didn't ground him or anything. Hasn't happened since.
Teen driver

I made my son pay his own tickets as well.  He might have had a couple, total, but he soon learned.  He's 21 now.

Thank you to all; I have a teen here in my complex who wants to do it.
Thank you.

teen driver
When my daughter got her license I gave her my older vehicle and she was responsible for gas and insurance. She paid for her repairs, but I helped if they were very high. My insurance agent told me to put her on her own policy so I would not get sued if she had an accident and my rates would not be affected by her driving record. By her living in my home she was able to get my discounts, ie., two car discount, different safety features on her vehicle, and home being insured. This was a wise choice as she had two small accidents within a year and is now paying high risk and my rates didn't change, but my insurance would have gone from $300 to $2600 every six months if she were on my policy. She hated having to pay since all her friends' parents were footing the whole bill, but now in college she appreciates it because she knows how to pay bills and budget her money while her friends are always bouncing checks or calling mom and dad for money.
Teen Troubles
Can you say, "Dr. Phil?" If you are that desperate, I would definitely consider it.
Someone should set THEM on fire -sm
That is totally infuriating. Too bad the 3 months *confinement* doesn't include being confined to a burn ward with 3rd-degree-burns over 75% of THEIR bodies. At the very le3ast, they should be made to sit through watching someone in the tubs at a burn ward getting their skin pulled off piece by piece. Might be a real eye-opener. Also, I think their parents should be liable for the kitten's vet bills.

A few months ago there was a horrible video on YouTube where some jerk in the Philippines (who must've been missing more than a few chromosomes, just like those girls!)lit a caged rat on fire in the same manner. Then, as if that weren't bad enough, he took another caged rat and poured boiling water on it. When that didn't quite kill it, he set it on fire. I went after that guy with a vengeance... got his video pulled from YouTube, (and hopefully him banned from it permanently). Also got on some of the internet forums in the Philippines and tried to track him down so that cruelty charges could be filed against him, pointing out that people who torture & kill animals often go on to start doing it to humans...

Cotati isn't far from where I live, and there is also a man in that area that *adopts* kittens from the free ads and on Craigslist, and tortures & kills them. People have been trying to get that guy put away, but it's been an uphill battle.
But to fire someone for
wishing someone Merry Christmas?  That's what I'm talking about.  God forbid anyone says the word, "Christ." I wonder how long it will take before "In God We Trust" is removed from our money.
Teen fashion emergency! :) SM

OK, please help if you can.  My son and I are clueless when it comes to "cool" fashions.  His friends sorta teased him today and said he is really uncool (uncool haircut, clothes, shoes).  They jokingly said they were going to do an extreme makeover on him.  I laughed at first, but then thought, "Hey!  That's not half bad!"  He is starting high school in the fall, and I would like to help him with a makeover this summer.  He is a nice looking kid, just got his braces off (so has a really nice smile), a little bit on the husky side, but his clothes and shoes are Walmart specials.  He is just a basic "boy" hair cut.

What is "cool" for boys?  Where should we shop?  What kind of haircut is cool for a 15-year-old boy?  I'm so clueless!

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

I too met my "father" as a teen/adult.

I had always asked questions. My mom was always very honest when she felt we could handle it about why they broke up (he was abusive). He contacted my brother and me when I was 16. I met him, found out he wasn't my "dad" since that was someone who would have at least been there for me when I needed him or to even know so I consider my "father" as a sperm donor. I am glad I did meet him and have closure (like someone else mentioned) because I think I would have always been curious but I didn't pursue a relationship with him. My father-in-law has been a real dad to me but my blood relative father is not a dad.

I agree with what someone mentioned too that your mom may not have been totally honest, wanting you to not want to pursue meeting him. I was lucky, my mom never badmouthed him when we were growing up even when we had all these questions about him, why they didn't stay married, what it would be like if they had stayed together and everything else. I realize now of course my mom was smart to have gotten out at the beginning. Once an abuser always an abuser so I'm relieved now. If you want to talk about it more let me know and I'll send you my e-mail.

JMO, but having been a very wild teen at one time...
you really should intervene. Your sister has a right to know, it is her child after all, and to turn a blind eye and pretend it does not exist does your niece more harm than good. Take it from one who has been there, if someone would have done the same for me I would have been angry, but looking back now it would have changed my life tremendously. A lot of young girls today really need some direction, look at the role models they have out there, most of them are nothing to brag about! Good luck to you, you sound like a loving and caring auntie!
I have two teen drivers on my insurance.
One is away at college and is not allowed to have a car on campus. Since he's paying for, or has earned scholarships for a good portion of his tuition, we pick up his car insurance as a secondary driver on a very old Toyota that he inherited from his grandfather. My second son has had his license for only two weeks. At the current time, as he is a good student, responsible and working very hard at school and on some extracurricular activities, we pick up his insurance as a secondary driver, as well. So far, so good. No one has had any moving violations or dings. In fact, I'm 46 and have never had a moving violation and have only gotten two parking tickets (deserved).
We're very serious here about driving responsibility. The boys know that one speeding ticket and we drop them from our insurance like hot potatoes. No insurance, no driving, no car. No warning. Mess up once, and they don't get back behind the wheel on our dime ever. The boys also know that their father and I mean what we say. We're not rich, but we are happy to be able to help our sons as they work toward their futures. But we won't pay high insurance fees because of their stupidity. More importantly, we've been to too many funerals for young people who died in accidents caused by speeding. I think that because of this, our boys seem to have taken their driving responsibilities/privileges very seriously.
update on teen drama

I posted before about how my son's ex-girlfriend was sabotaging him receiving an invitation to Sadie Hawkins dance.  The girl that "changed her mind" can't find another date because it is too close to time.

So she follows my son all over the place, but she has to be loyal to the "Queen Bee" and doesn't seem to have the courage to ask him again.

Four years is a long time to be incarcerated in high school.  Maybe he will get an A in chemistry instead!

Teen Heart Throbs

Who was your celebrity teen heart throb?

Mine has always been Donny Osmond. I really liked David Cassidy too.

Teen heart throbs
First was probably David Cassidy. Too many more to mention. LOL.
Maybe if you start a fire in your
fireplace, your swamp cooler will be more effective!

Either that or get a dehumidifier.

I hate humidity also, and here I am in NC. Would you believe that when people are sick they sometimes run HUMIDIFIERS HERE?? Makes no sense to me when they could just step outside most of the time, and we have enough fungus amongus, LOL.

Where there is smoke, there is fire...

Someone said consider the source.  So let's consider the source...

You don't know her and she doesn't know you.  Why would she seek you out to lie to you?

Apparently your husband does know her and was going to warn you beforehand that she might try to stir up trouble.  Why would she pick your marriage to stir up trouble in?  What bone of contention does she have with your husband?  What is his relationship with her?

And if there is nothing to what she says as your husband suggests and that she is just trying to "stir up trouble" then why did he feel he needed to warn you?

Sounds to me like he's covering his bases.  Personally, I think you husband has a lot of explaining to do and this advice of "keep quiet and take notes" is bunk.  Don't be the victim.  Listen to what your gut is telling you.  Something smells in your situation and I bet it's coming from hubbie.

Trust me when I say, men can look their wives in the eye and lie without batting an eye and when caught in a lie, they will practically hurt themselves trying to rationalize and justify.  Whatever is going on with your husband, you cannot deny that there are rumors out there that your husband feels he needs to squelch.  That's troublesome by itself.  Why would someone make up rumors about him?

Don't excuse him, don't treat him with kid gloves.  Confront him and find the truth.  You'll know it when you hear it.

He can light my fire! ;)
The Australian guy that sang the Doors song 'Light My Fire' is GOOD-LOOKING. Doesn't hurt that he sounds good also ;)
Fire Mtn. Gems
Fire mountain gems has a great selection and you can order a free HUGE catalog. They have wonderful prices and fast shipment. Local stores are all most always cheaper than Jo-Ann's and Michaels by the way.
I don’t fire off the questions because
most physicians now just try to race through because having to make that quota. But back to him asking you to have a sleep study, first of all you can refuse to have any test done you don’t want to have done. I refuse to weigh in my doctor's office. That is not really information basically needed (unless having anesthesia or dye injected for MRI say). Has any family member stated to you about excessive snoring, that being a reason you would need to have the study done. I did have a young niece to die from sleep apnea so in that case with loud, excessive snoring that you have heard about, then I would ask for it myself. I just turned down a nerve conduction study the other day. The neurologist said he oculd not treat; therefore why have it just then.
I've had 2 teen boys and my suggestion is to
take him to SuperCuts where for really cheap you can get him a hip cut.  Have him look at the books/magazines and then ask the stylist for her opinion depending on his face structure, hair type, etc.  Next, I would go to Target for his clothes - they are a little more expensive but classy - WalMart is pretty well hated by all teens.... he would probably rather have fewer shirts and pants and have them be a little nicer...... and shop for some bargain shoes - Famous Footwear - or check sales and don't forget the internet!!  JCPenney is great also - almost forgot about them!!
