Maybe good money for the amount of hours sm
but no enough for what actucally goes into the job.
yeah well it's only wasting money when you lose
a deal when you could win millions. I can give up a few cups of coffee or something else rather than my lottery tickets!!
Older folks sometimes lose it before they really lose it sm
It sounds like she having some issues with money and thought processes. Four potatoes and three sweet potatoes? She has lost touch with reality. I don't mean this in an unkind way. I think she didn't stop the think or plan the budget around this. Perhaps she has lost the ability to properly plan on some level. This makes no sense.

In my family, food at gramma's was always abundant. The woman always thought we were foot soldiers readying for a cold march across two states. The place she got miserly was with almost everything else. She'd have everyone over for a huge supper and have 2 rolls of TP in the house, one nearly gone, and there would be 10 of us. She stopped buying laundry detergent because it was "too expensive" and started using shavings of naphtha soap. She started saving little soap slivers and making "new" bars of soap with them. She stopped buying shampoo unless it was in the markdowns at the grocery store. She started using a baggie for her vacuum cleaner bag. You get the picture here.

The interesting thing is that truly, that gramma never fully lost it. We considered this idiosyncratic and went on. She kept the rest of her faculties, but had these odd ways of "saving money." My other gramma who never did any of these things did, in fact, suffer from profound dementia the last 10 years of her life. Of course, that set of grandparents had the issue the other way. Toilet paper: Bought in bulk 6 cases at a time. Find a salad dressing you like, buy a couple of cases. You never did want to tell them you liked a certain food, paper product or soap something because if you did, along would come a few cases of it!

We all do something when we get older. Help her out so she isn't embarrassed by this!
How much money rasied for Katrina, how much money for the diasters due to the tidal waves and what?
Every single one of them have had some smoke around it with the money not getting to where it was supposed to go. I did not contribute, I hardly watched, was not caught up again as I have seen things like this before. They should give a all you can give benefit for Darfur where people are being massacared each and every day. Genocide going on there each and every day. I have not seen any benefits to help them out yet.
For that small amount, can't you take
xx
Such a minute amount but what I was
saying anyone who has a huge amount on their card really cannot stand to take a chance with not paying on time- I am sure would not have a problem having it written off- they love me because 2nd time I have paid off totally and always on time (not this small amount though) and the last time over 10 thou paid off. I will probably call them anyway.
Would never give this amount sm
withot consulting my spouse. I think it's kind of sneaky on his part, that's a large amount to keep from your wife. I would be fuming and think you have a right to be flaming mad. I don't know about the cheating aspect, she probably found an ear to bend and drives him nuts but he won't admit it. She found herself a Santa and he's probably sorry he did it. See how it goes. Next time he has an appointment, if it were me, I'd hang around the parking lot, but that's me, I'm not sure it's something you would want to do. I certainly would!
Re the amount of effort
OMG - I had two teenagers who were 19 months apart.  Yes, it was hard and sometimes I just had to turn my head and pretend that was not my child.  The effort and sacrifices are great, especially at prom time and when they start driving.  I am glad I had mine young.  I think it helped me get through it.  I do believe that kids/teenagers are going to get in trouble for something.  That's their job and it is a way of life.  I just tried to put myself in their place when I was that age (I did much worse things actually).  That is also another reason why they could not get by with much.  I had done it all and knew what to expect.  Even so, no matter what my kids ever did and whether I trusted them or not, I always let them know and told them I loved them more than anything all the time (even if they had hurt me).  I gave them my all and taught them to appreciate it.  I put them through college and they put themselves through grad school.  I was not sure the youngest would even graduate high school.  They always knew I loved them with all my heart and I believe most of the time that pays off.  One day all that effort and sacrifice will be worth it.
Yes. The formula is you say, "You have X amount for
When she runs out, she does without until her budget allows more entertainment money.

It isn't about the money, though. Her issue is with learning priorities for needs versus wants.

You've waited a little late if she's 22. My boys budgeted their money as mid teens and as young men do great.

Kids usually learn spending habits from parents - by example or by allowance.

Apparently they are setting a certain amount you can use and if you go beyond that they can
either disconnect you for a year or charge you for the extra that you use.  This is Comcast.  I expect all the internet companies will follow suit so many are saying the internet as we know it is now going to change and become more expensive to use and we will only be allowed a base amount of usage for our flat fee we pay and beyond that we may have to pay extra for however much more we use in increments.  Time will tell what happens I guess.  What can you do.
a question of amount of effort
If I had to do it over again, yes.

But I am having a hard time seeing where the amount of sacrifices I made is paying off in these "teenage years."

I think the payoff for being a good enough parent just might be raising "good enough" kids who become "good enough" parents, so you don't end up raising your grandkids....(and end up with a second chance to get it right).

Two months is quite a short amount of time....
You need to take your time and keep YOUR options open! You may meet Mr. Right while you're seeing this guy. In two months, you probably don't even know his favorite color yet. Don't rush these things. If he is the one, he will figure it out and not want to see anyone else. Good luck! I hope this works out for you.
Smaller total amount of more feedings?
Have you tried feeding him more than 2-3 times a day and just putting a smaller overall amount in the dish? He might think he's actually getting more.
Do you have dirty dishes or excess amount
of trash that needs to be taken out?
When amount of this for social security people and when?
Do you have a link for this info, pls.
Try Alton Brown's suggestion for the amount of

grounds to use.  As he points out, you can always dilute.  Here is the article:

But her money is her money to spend as she pleases -
I don't understand how you can think it is wrong for her to spend whatever she wants to on whatever she buys. It is their personal money they spend. It is not like they are saying give me those shoes and add it to the taxpayer's bill.

And in all actuality, they are saying spend, spend, spend to get the economy going.

I am sorry, I am jealous that some people still have plenty of money to spend and I don't, but I don't expect those people to quit spending just because I had to.
great post! - only a difference in amount of melanin

the only difference I see is the amount of melanin in the skin........BEST of luck to you - Enjoy it while you feel it!!!

It's ALL good!!

We didn't even spend half that amount on each of our kids.
Of course, our kids told us about their spoiled rotten friends who all got electric guitars, multiple gaming systems, flat panel TVs for their bedrooms, cell phones, mp3 players, etc. Then the little boy from across the street came over and told me what he got for Christmas, which wasn't much at all. I felt so bad for the little guy. If I had known they didn't have much, I would have bought for his family instead of my 25+ family and friends who don't even need anything. I refuse to buy into it all for my own kids. If they want all the electronics, they can work and save up for it, and then only with my permission. No unlimited Internet, no texting, no M, R or T rated movies and games. I just don't believe children need all that junk. DH and I grew up just fine without it.
i know it is wearing on you but the recommend amount of timeout is 1 minute for each year of age.

Larege amount of horses at packing plants/feed lots
coincidentally happen to be TBs.  They are a huge throw-away market.  Once they are done racing, unless they are one of the incredibly lucky few to be adopted out to knowledgable homes for other careers or are of breeding quality, they usually don't wind up in too good of a place afterwards.   I'm a nobody, and I've had 3 of these throw-aways land in my lap.  Yes, there are some responsible owners/breeders who ensure these animals are taken care of for the rest of their days, racing career or not, then there are an awful lot of others who see them as the cash crops they are and nothing more.
Nothing too huge, but sm

DD is struggling with college and taking classes that are out of her area of emphasis AND ones she didn't have enough high school prerequisites to do well.  She tells me she has a solid C in one and should have a C in chem.  She was afraid she was going to end up on academic and financial aid suspension, but it doesn't look likely now.  She is changing her major AT LAST to journalism!

I have a wonderful job, money in the bank and food in the house.  This might seem smallish, but many don't have this.  I remember when I could not have all 3 at once.

My house is nearly clean.  I have been fixing it up, reorganizing and moving stuff for what seems like forever (okay, only 20 months) and I am finally able to actually clean it as in clean and tidy.  It is feeling really good.

The dog got a bath last night.  She is cute, fluffy, sweet and smells like jasmine.  She is more loveable than ever right now too.

Yes, I lose
money if I don’t work so very simple for me. I just have good work ethics.
I'm sorry. It is so sad when we lose a pet.

I'm trying to lose too sm

I've tried all diets, have been successful, but once i stop doing the diet, then i gain back.  Atkins, WW, Jenny Craig.  Last year I did Nutrisystem, but food got expensive.  Now I'm just trying to eat healthy.  I can tell you that Nutrisystem food had fiber and protein in it.  It's tough.  I'm an emotional eater.  I would love to be a part of a losing weight forum.  there is a website www. weightlossbuddy.com.  It's free and you can find other people that live close to you and support each other.  I'd like to lose about 20 or 25. Hey monitor, didn't there used to be a diet board?  If not, that'd be a good board to have.

thanks

use it or lose it
They can keep you alive a very long time these days. I would try to die with my boots on. Have you walked through a nursing home lately? Just keep shuffling along and do not stop until you keel over, or you could have a manny nurse changing your Depends.
Years ago I liked her but her ego has gotten huge ....sm

There is a huge difference between ...sm
spanking and beating. My dad used to get out his belt when I was bad. And I mean, I deserved it. Those lessons stuck in my brain, and I did not EVER break that rule again, not out of fear, but respect and I always thought twice about breaking any other rules. Even after I was past the age of spankings. I do not spank my kids with a belt, I cannot bring myself to do that, but I do not fault my dad for doing it to me when I deserved it. I also am a very nonviolent person. I will spank my kids when all the time outs and talking to don't work and nothing else seems to make the lesson stick in their head. They do not have bruises, they are not scared of me, they are happy kids. I think if a lot of other kids would have gotten the spankings they deserved when they were growing up to learn those lessons, they would not have been out shooting people or beating others up and have the issues they do now. And no, I did not grow up in the 50s. I am only 30 years old.
That would be a HUGE no for us - please see inside
Please don't get me wrong, churches are fine for those who believe in that sort of thing. We've been that route. We are very spiritual people but we are in no way religious. We don't believe in the creator the same way and we don't believe in the bible. Certain parts of it (for historical purposes) are fine but too much has been put into it by men that well, that's just for a different post. I just don't believe most of it is true and just another form of brainwashing for most. We don't believe in heaven or h*ll (as in physical places you go to after you die). It just doesn't exist. Heaven and h*ll is a state of mind one is in. Good and evil is in each one of us and what we do with our lives and how we treat others and live determines if we are a good person or not. Once we die we will not either go to a place in the sky floating on clouds kneeling reciting scriptures over and over and over, and neither will we go to a place down below where they claim people will be ripped to shreds being tortured over and over in pain for all eternity. Just isn't so.

If we follow any "religion" our beliefs are in the lines of Paganism (even though being a pagan is not a religion, it is a way of life). This idea (again in my opinion, so please don't anyone take this personal), but the idea that there is a "God" out there "controlling" everything is just absurd to me. There is no God out there determining what happens to our lives on a day to day basis and dishing out to us only what we can handle. We determine what happens in our lives by ourselves.

Believe me, I've been through the "religious" route. Spent birth til 12th grade going to episcopalean and methodist services and sunday school, 12th grade took classes and switched to catholic church for about two years. In my 20's I went to catholic and protestant services. After I moved away from home. I had a jewish friend and he took me to his synagogue for about 6 or 7 months. I moved again and had a friend who took me to her mormon services for about a year. Moved again and attended Baptist services for a couple months and then switched to some religion where it was just way way way creepy where everyone raised their hands in the air, closed their eyes and were chanting out things while people in the back were what I've read called "barking", and others standing around speaking mumbo jumbo that they claimed was speaking in tongues. I think they called their services charismatic. I lasted about 5 or 6 services with them and felt too creeped out and there was just something I can only describe as "evil" about it. So, I would say I've had a pretty well-rounded experience with different religions, and they are all far from what I believe in my heart. The path that I take with my creator is a personal one that I do not share with others. As for God...there is no "Him" to trust therefore no "His hands" to put my life in. There is a creator out there but the creator is not the "Him" that everyone talks about. After being out of all the different services I feel more connected with the creater than I ever did sitting in any of those buildings listening to what I can only describe as brainwashing (especially when they would post scriptures/passages from the bible, but change it a little to benefit what they were discussing). AGAIN, I have to repeat over and over and over to anyone who reads this, these are only my feelings and thoughts. I believe that everyone is entitled to believe what they want and if it works for you and you enjoy your life because of your worshipping and services then that's great for you. Just is not for me.
275 isn't that huge either - Now 475, I could see needing sm
a non-human MRI machine but 275? There are football players who fit that description.
They did a huge article on him
in Homelife magazine. It is amazing the faith and courage he has after all he has been through!
I am a huge Scrubs fan .. did you know . . .
if you go to Hulu.com, you can watch all the episodes of Scrubs and many, many other shows?  For free!!  That's how I get caught up on a lot of my shows, like Brothers and Sisters!!
That would be a huge NO - see message
I heard about that story. I think it's horrible. She is his mom and if she wants to try holistic help instead of the killer chemo drugs she has every right as a parent to do that. Who in the world does the government think they are sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong. Since when is it the govt's position to tell a parent how they should be able to treat their own child. I'm a firm believer in natural medicines. I try anything before taking an aspirin. I also type oncology reports, and also my mom, grandmother, cousin, and sister-in-law all had cancer and they went the chemo route. They all got sick as anything, suffered horribly, and ended up dying. Very rarely will you hear of someone being cured with chemo. Chemo is a killer drug and the only thing it does is make the pharmaceutical companies richer while the patients suffer horrible horrible pain and death. (remember that everything I say is all just my opinion). I think what this is doing is that the people who want to go the natural route if they suspect they have cancer they probably will not go to the doctor to get a diagnosis because then their name will be turned in and they will be forced to undergo this killer treatment. It just urks me to no end that the govt is ordering the mother to have her child treated with chemo. They need to keep their noses where it don't belong. I hope the mother is able to get the holistic help she is seeking and I think anyone who turns them in is a piece of dirt (in my humble opinion). Sorry, think I went off there, I just get so frustrated with govt sticking their noses in where it doesn't belong, and the pharmaceutical companies having such control over this.
well, i try to eat right. i need to lose some weight sm

so i do buy whole wheat stuff, bread, wraps, spaghetti. i buy low fat/fat free lunchmeats, 2% cheese.  i don't buy cupcakes and cookies (or else i'd eat them!)  i don't drink much milk, not that i don't like it, just don't drink it much.  i drink more water than anything.  i'll have about one diet dr. pepper a day.  i love food, it's just trying to stay on a healthy track.  my problem is i don't get enough exercise.  i have a 5 y/o and an 8 y/o that keep me busy.  but i do like to exercise.

But how did she lose all that weight?
She was really heavy and saw her lately in my weekly rags and so thin now.
Oh yes people will tell you you need to lose
weight. My own father was a good example of that. He tried to cut me down and made nasty remarks about my weight. Never mind the fact I saw pictures of his mother who was extremely obese. I guess he forgot about her weight. Anyone who is overweight knows that- does not have to be told- there are mirrors everywhere.
Trying to lose weight

Has anyone tried Hoodia and does it work?

Well, I DID lose 10 lbs. this summer without even trying-
That's about the only good thing that's come of all this. The rest sucks.
Sometimes you won't lose much 1 week but BAM sm
you lose a bunch the next week; sometimes it is water-weight related, other times related to your period or hormones. Some weeks I didn't lose anything, only to have a 4 lb loss the next time! Just be sure to start being active (even if it is only walking to the end of your block) and drink your water!
With depression you lose either way -- sm
depression pretty much kills sex drive, but so do antidepressants. Still, I prefer to be on the meds.
I have a plumbago and it's huge. I love it. sm
I had one when I lived in Minnesota and it came back every year despite the long, cold winters.  Down here it has gotten a touch of a freeze but it's still flourishing.  They bring butterflies and hummingbirds (unlike my hummingbird feeder).
My father's 4th wedding was HUGE
They had a big Victorian wedding. They had a huge rehersal dinner, wedding and reception. She was married once before and had a small wedding. She wanted a big wedding. Maybe your father and this lady want to have a party with their friends and family?
What zoo still has iron cages. Most have huge

Explain the huge difference please. (sm)
Is it between alcohol and pot, crack and mushrooms, crank and LSD? Please, explain to me the huge difference. To me, all drugs are drugs, but maybe some are more preferential to you.
Yes, I made a huge change.
I work outside at a garden center now. The money isn't great, but it's hourly and fair, I'd say. No more being prevented from working because of equipment failure or low work. I love getting out of the house and working with people. I make a difference where I work. Surgical tech is something I looked into, but I don't think I'd like early hours or being locked in one position holding retractors for hours. I might fall asleep standing up. Interestingly, I read about a trend of having OR rooms warmer, which the surgeons HATE, but it seems to be better for the patients. When I was a secretary in the OR, I froze, but I wasn't standing under hot OR lights. Another consideration is whether you are affected by smells. It can be stinky work. The nurses complained particularly about all the cauterization smells during breast surgery, more so than intestinal/rectal surgery, oddly enough.
yes! order an appetizer - they are huge, enough for 2 (or more). NM
