Where I live, with the exception of Petsmart, animals are

not welcome inside of stores. Kind of sad in one way, but I can understand it in another. I have small/medium dog. She absolutely loves to ride in the car, so she accompanies the kids to and from school, and if we just need to run to the convenience store, we go there (yes it is a locally owned mom and pop type of store so she is more than welcome). Not sure I would take her shopping, but then again.. not sure I wouldn't either if it was allowed here.

You know what they say...... people who do not like animals are typically not good people anyway. Animals and children are the best judge of character. Not saying you are one of these people, but something to think about.

Animals not allowed to roam where we live
by the rules in our community and my cats are indoor ALWAYS - that does not mean others keep theirs in. I tried to rescue a squirrel the cat next door caught in front of my home so they would turn the squirrel loose and the other day a Great Dane (apparently in heat) came into my yard and then the dog next door came over to try to romance that one. I really, really hate to see animals out anywhere - oh the other day was told we have coyates (sp?) in the neighborhood and be sure not to let animals out- 1 lady found only tufts of hair and collar from cat apparently killed them them. I usually am trying to feed strays when I see them.
Where I live animals are not supposed to run freely but
some do, my 2 furries live inside (I have bird feeder right outside my work window and they have a chair in front where they get to watch the birds as do I). Having said that, next door neighbor has a dog and 2 catss who run at will. One day watching outside I see 1 of the cats run and catch a squirrel (I am trying to get keys to run outside and scare the cat away, no such luck) and another day 1 of her furries tries to come and jump to catch the birds who eat at my birdfeeder. I called our homeowners associate and they suggested maybe I call animal control or shoot the animals- I liked neither 1 of these comments. I see a furry out in my yard occasionally but my husband does not mind as he says good for varmit control (he means rats, by the way).
PetSmart commercials are pretty cute
Love the one where the man is with a big dog getting an ice cream cone and the dog is trying to stay put and not grab a little girl's ice cream, and the music... Sometimes it's hard to do the right thing.. and the dog is licking his chops.
Exception to the rule
Well, she is the exception to the rule here - she does not own an Ipod, will not even let me have the radio on in the car and her cell phone, which she has had for 3 years because I insisted she have it at school because of asthma, has rang no more than 10 times in all that time - her part of the cell phone minutes do not even account for 10-15 minutes a month.  She has had driver's education and I have let her drive with me all summer and she will only drive to and from school.
But sad thing is, you are exception. Many parents

I do live in Arkansas - my parents live up in Branson so I'm in Missouri quite often!

Calling all you animal lovers - live and let live or intervene? - sm

I have a dilemma.  I am an animal lover and have something I cannot come to a conclusion about.  At a restaurant where I eat lunch every Friday with a friend of mine, I have noticed a young male kitty hanging around outside looking for food.  This past week he ran up to my friend and rubbed her legs and quietly meowed.  I purposely did not try to pet him because I knew I would get attached and ignored him.  Well, ever since then I find myself thinking about him and wanting to rescue him.  Meanwhile, I already have 4 inside cats (2 rescues, 2 Maine Coons) and hubby really does not want another cat in the house because a few years ago I promised we would  never have more than 4 (had up to 5 at one point previously).  I actually have a huge screened deck he could stay on indefinitely because I do not believe in letting cats run loose for their own safety.  I could provide plenty of food, a warm place to sleep, and veterinary care.  At some point I would even probably work him into our household, but I just cannot do it at the moment.  Just not sure I would be doing right by that kitty because I am sure he would be upset and confused for a good while as to where he was and what was going on, but is that better than being hungry and cold?  I know there are lots of animal lovers out there.  What does everyone think??

I'm a live-and-let-live person but had to draw the line

after I found HUGE holes in the walkway between my house and barn.  I thought they were just little mice stealing grain, but then I spotted one and it was a HONKIN RAT!  My poor olderly cat was out there with me at the time and saw it, and he hissed at it and ran away!

I asked for advice on what to do at a local agricultural board, because I have other animals and didn't want to use poison and conventional traps weren't working.  They advised putting a large pale of water out with some seeds floating in it, figuring the rats would go for the seeds and end up drowning.  That was a no-go because the water just froze up solid.  I wound up reluctantly going with Decon because I just can't have my house destroyed.  I haven't had seen any more rats or evidence of them stealing grain, so I'm guessing they have died.  The guy at the grain store promised me the rats would not die in the building and stink the joint up, rather they would crawl off and die outside.  I don't know if I believe that, as it is still winter here and decomposition would be holding off until it warms up.  We'll see, but at least the destruction has been halted.

Good luck and I too say have no mercy, because you just don't need them destroying hour house or causing a spark chewing wires and burnin' the place down.  It is war!

  (How un-PC is this emoticon?!)

Make them live outside? This is so funny! Ours live outside, where they WANT to be. sm
Not all dogs want to be in "indoor" dogs, mind you. They have plenty of space to run around and play, fenced, and if they are brought in during bad weather they whine at the back door to go back out! So before you comment on outside dogs, you really need to get your facts straight. Seriously. Not all dogs are made or want to be inside all of the time.
Just a tip about animals
As I am getting cleaned up from Christmas and heading towards the New Year, thought I would pass on something that I do and if you don't know about it and can do the same, here tis: I get the newspapers each day (along with lots of subscriptions to different magazines), save them up and when I get a big bunch I take them to my local animal shelter. They cut them up and use for bedding for the animals. Pass it on.....
Well at least they like animals...
I'd take them for neighbors over someone who *shoots at* animals, any day!
Animals
Dogs and cats are good! That will be a fun job and animals are so loving and grateful for anything we do. Good choice too since you get free vet care you can get another dog! Or two. You can never have enough dogs. I only have three. I need a bigger house so I can have more dogs! They are our "babies" and are spoiled. I would hate to transcribe without my dogs who sit next to me and "wait" - what have I ever done to deserve this? I just accept it and feel loved.
animals
If she could have someone else feed them honestly it would save her a bunch. The minimum I have seen places charge and I have moved around alot was 16 a night per animal. Sometimes if you can put 2 in the same cage they give you a small discount on one animal per cage.
what we will do for our animals. .
One year my cat just kept jumping up into the middle of the tree. . we came home from work several times with the tree in the floor. . we eventually anchored the tree to the floor AND ceiling. . . as he got older he got calmer. . I'm sad to say last Christmas was his last - he died in January at age 17. . . He was a good friend. .
Yup, just like animals, neither can they. LOL

animals

I would do the samething, have two dogs that I love dearly which one is blind and has lived in the same house since she was a puppy, and still runs into the walls and things. It is so sad to see, so I would never do anything to make it any harder on her.    Bless you for being so caring.

raw animals
The wild animal the dog kills wasn't raised on a factory farm under conditions favorable for salmonella epidemics, and wasn't force-fed antibiotics to cover the many diseases hens get when they live in such tight quarters.

Then again, the raw chicken is actual chicken, rather than "animal digest" or the other euphemisms the pet food industry uses to cover the miserable quality of their food (even the premium brands are just awful).

And just look at how animals
almost always hook up with another animal friend ... even natural enemies.

I guess if you are very social, you can get enough from other people and activities. I get drained too easily and so would rather have my mate than be alone.

how do you know that? Unfortunately animals
cannot tell us how they feel, not before and not after.
Poor animals!
A ''crate'' is just a nice term for a cage. How sad to cage a dog or cat.
You can only try. That is what we did with my son. His stuffed animals SM

were his worst nightmare allergy-wise.

I've had dogs with dry skin, but never were they were that miserable.  I wonder if they make a doggie lotion that could help or if there is some type of herbal remedy like who knows what but some type of oil safe for doggie skin.

I have two black labs now and one puppy Yorkie.  My older black labs gets some dry skin on his belly, but nothing too bad.

Don't give up.  You'll find it!

All animals, pets or not are most definitely
.
Thanks for that one. Animals rule!

What is it with old stinky animals!
My old dog and old horse really do "smell like old people."  They have a funk of their own when compared to the younger animals of same species, even though they are all completely healthy.  I think it's just what happens, the why's and how's though, I am completely clueless about.  I really have an especially soft spot for the ol' senior critters though.

Animals in heaven? NM

social animals
Rodents, rats especially, are very very social animals and are intelligent and desire human contact. I've had 6 diff rats, all are passed away now cause they only last a few years, but they are very playful and will play with you and like to be held, petted and carried around. The more you do that the more friendly they get!

Have fun!
wild animals
My fiance used to live in a subdivision in our small town. . every night, possums and racoons came up on his back deck and looked through the sliding glass door at us while we were watching TV in the living room. . We enjoyed seeing them and sometimes we would put food out for them. .

I have to share this also because I think it is a once in a lifetime thing - yesterday we were walking on my fiance's farm and saw a deer giving birth. . we got to within about 35 yards of it. . We only watched for about 10 minutes because we could tell we were making it very nervous. . I hope they both do okay. .
for my animals -- YES absolutely!
i don't think its a bit crazy to CARE for your animals, and take care of them. Bless your heart!
fostering animals
Does anyone foster animals? I've been thinking of fostering a dog or cat and wonder what exactly is involved.
There are those that believe animals have souls-
I doubt they would find it ridiculous, though I do agree that this whole thread is ridiculous. The OP wanted to start a fire and she got it.
Animals very much desirable,
in your own homes, not running loose in the neighborhood. I have inside pets, they live longer inside anyway.
Like I said, I love most animals and have more than...
my fair share of them including a horse that is losing her teeth and anyone else would put down because it is very expensive to keep her around and very cheap to replace her at this point, but I just can't do it, as she is very healthy. I am just not such a cat person and I really hope that my husband does not bring on home, but if he did, I would expect it to stay outside. Terrible, I know, but that is just the way I am.
Antidepressants help some animals, too.

I do appreciate life and have respect for animals.
I just don't think they should be shoved in my face.

I agree - there are many children in stores who should be taken outside to be handled. However, people are NOT animals.

Unfortunately, most doglovers cannot appreciate this difference.
So even animals help decide our fate???
Where did you read this or learn about this? I've never heard that animals will speak for or against us on judgement day...interesting.  Guess I'm in the clear, I don't do animals, don't own them, don't abuse them, don't like 'em!
You don’t have to love animals, that is not the point
although I find them much more rewarding that most people I know, you have to be really sick to hurt one.
I like how you called your animals *somebody*...that is cute
If *somebody* gets sick on the weekend....

Animals ARE people too!

You sound like a good mother :)
They think like pack animals, not humans. They are
asdf
With the brood of 10 animals here's the list:
DOGS: Shaina, Tiger & Taffy
CATS: Pearl, Hollow, Ember, Ribbon & Samson
RABBIT: Bonnie
BETA FISH: Jacqueline

Vet's name for all of them: Money (just kidding - just seeing if you're paying attention).
Probably Doesn't have animals or a clue
You'd think somebody that doesn't have them would at least know they do have nerve endings and can feel pain and suffering. I cannot get over the selfishness of this person. Makes me ashamed to be a member of the human race, and hopefully a day will come someone who does something this unconscionable will be able to be charged with leaving the scene of an accident. The courts are moving closer and closer to protecting animals in situations like this.

And to whoever said not to call the humane society, for God's sake, WHY? Why NOT call somebody who would help?
I think there are probably more animals in heaven than people, too. (nm)

My animals have spring fever
MY 2 cars, one is 13+ and the other is almost 7 are bugging me along with my dog to play, and just pay some attention to them.  It is nice outside and they sure have the spring bug.  Hard to resist them.  Just took the dog for a long run in the park with another neighbor's puppy and though it would calm her down but now, she bring in her stuffed animals and when I ignore her she will throw them at my chair to get my attention.  So I keep taking 5 to 10 minutes to play and now am behind.  Oh well, it only happens a couple of times a year so gotta enjoy it.   But even the 13 year old is sitting on my desk, which she never does, and playing with my papers, pens, knocking things down and then just looking at me, like "Did I do that."   But it is so nice here in Portland today, up to 60 gotta take advantage as will probably rain tomorrow.
Kids, animals and ghosts (sm)

When we first moved into our home, our then 2 year-old dog had a habit of chasing us and playfully biting our heels, shifting from heel to heel.  One day he did that when there was no one there, chasing his invisible friend all the way to the wall.  I used to feel the presence of someone here all the time. In the middle of the night, every night, for years, I would suddenly feel something hit the mattress at the foot of the bed, like someone would walk by and just pat the mattress hard or jump on it (though they couldn't have been very heavy). My son when he became able to talk asked me, "who is that white guy who comes in here at night?"  This house was built in 1959, the man who built it died in the yard next door, building his daughter's house.  His wife lived here for many years after that and passed away in the hospital about a year before we moved in.

I never felt there was any malicious spirit here but it still disturbed me some.  One day I walked around he entire house, step by step, carrying a Bible saying, "this house belongs to God in Jesus' name."  I also felt the presence of something in the hall and I told it to leave this house, felt it stayed, and said in a very firm voice, "NOW!"  I never felt anything hit the bed again, haven't felt any more odd presences, and my children have never said anything else nor are they afraid at night. They sleep with me sometimes when my husband is out of town, just because they want to, but not because they are scared.  I spent my whole childhood being afraid of ghosts....glad they don't have to feel that way.

God doesn't judge animals.

I don't judge animals.  Animals don't know right from wrong.  They are merely animals and they act on instinct.  If an animal possesses an instinct to kill a human when there is no threat, then that animal should be put down.  The life of a human is infinitely more valuable than the life of an animal.  Somehow it doesn't seem like you believe that.

I can compare anything I like and I like, no love, animals
She used disability payments to pay for her invitro, saying she will use student loans (hope those will disappear) to raise the children (that is not what they are for), collecting disability until that ran out, food stamps, a total wreck of a person, does not have an income, living in a 3 bedroom house with 17 people and who brought up abortion. Not me. She should have never gotten pregnant with this litter because she already had 6 other that she could not care for. Her mother (the person she lives with) is tired of taking care of the 6, much less the added burden on her with 8 more. I could care less what the faith board has to say about me. I lose no sleep over what I say. If she can ask for donations for her brood I can certainly ask for donations for my animals. I am trying to help some of earth's problems, not cause more. Forget you.
I'll feed your animals before I'd even
offer her a Kleenex to wipe a kid's nose!
No one was comparing the babies to animals
Why do you not read the postings correctly. I said I might as well ask for contributions for my animal rescue if THE MOTHER could put up a website asking for contributions. I see no difference at all. I pay it forward almost every week doing my rescuing and contributing to causes I find worthwhile contributing to, not a psycho person who intentionally populates the earth by herself and has no way of taking care of such a litter. I am very angry at people like you who are bleeding hearts. Give them all your money- I know just by the glimpses I see of this wanna be Angelina Jolie that she will have to look elsewhere for help other than this person of sound mind. I do not give money for stoopid causes. Have at it!
I love animals so much and this is just precious!
Have 2 cats and 1 kitten and love where the kitty is grooming the deer. Thanks for sharing this!
Amanda, I would hate to be without my animals
and in fact I rescue for the love of getting them out of a place where otherwise they would be put down. An owner surrender is not good. Did you find out prior to taking your kitty to the shelter if it is a no kill place. Some are, others not so. I got a doggie not too long ago, not smart of me but trying to save a poor little doggie took this girl in. I had no room for her and lucky for me went on Craigs and found a place that would take any and all. That was the place where I met these people I now do rescuing with. I have 3 pets and you would probably just have to string me up first before I would let them go. They are my family.
If I saw this, I would gladly give to the animals. NM
X
At first I just bought animals straight out
and had them vetted including neuturing or spaying and then we gave the animals to good homes. Without licensing, here you cannot sell animals. As rescuers we can just get any animals from shelters, no cost to us. Here in the south you have an overabundance of animals and so many just put down. I hear up north exact opposite. I had wanted to do something like this, like you, for quite some time and rescued a dog for myself, no where to keep, met the lady I work with now off Craigslist, stated she took in all doggies and kitties and would find them home. I gave a doggie another try at good home and I found a good home for myself! I can hardly wait for our rescuing to expand more.
