Hang in there. There will be days or nights
like this sometimes. Most likely they rebooted the system and old junk that got left behind from cherry picking got stuck in the cues. I have worked late at night and that has happened, especially since less people work at night. I am thinking it is not you, just got stuck on a night they updated the jobs. Hang in there. If they have a good reputation, odds are someone else will get stuck next time when the get the old jobs which are stuck and left undone. And remember, what goes around comes around. One day hopefully soon you will get all good reports to balance these out. Good luck.
HAHA! Yes! I have those daily! But it's not really work as I work nights, it's little things l
turning on the pool filter in the morning and then in the afternoon running out there because I thought I forgot to turn it on. Or preheating the oven and then 5 minutes later saying "shoot! I forgot to preheat the oven!" It's really bad. And I'm only 31. I'm not 90!

I don't know if dementia or Alzheimer's runs in my family, but this could be a sign of something to come. Or as my husband says - you jut don't pay attention to much. He's probably right!
I work nights
from 5pm to wee hours. I'm home every day with the kids. I do get child support for my 16 y/o and my "BF" and I have not yet discussed about the two little ones. I am hoping time will be split as 50/50 as we can get it as he works days, I work nights.
I work nights....
I usually split my shift so I can have a break...8 hours straight gets rough for me sitting and typing. I usually work 5-9 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. I go to bed at around 6 a.m. usually, it's still a little dark then and easier to get to sleep. I am single though and don't have kids. I don't think I could do my schedule otherwise. The good aspect is that I never run out of work and I make extra money for working the shifts. Plus I am not now, never have been and never will be a morning person, so I like not having to have an alarm wake me up. The bad is it's easy to be a hermit some days working the opposite of most of the rest of the world, lots of things wake me up (lawn mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, UPS, if I forget to turn my phone off and people are aghast that they woke me up and it's NOON?!?!?) Fortunately I have a supervisor who will let me flex my hours if I have family in town or something else going on. If I ever actually get a LIFE (socialy speaking), I will probably have to modify my hours, but for right now it fits me pretty well and the extra money is definitely nice.
Yes I do work nights
I can and do work when the work is available vs competing for work during popular hours/days.  I worked nights inhouse too, because I'm a night person.  And I work weekends.  Not all of us are princesses that insist on prime days/hours!
Anyone else crazy enough to work nights with a..
family??  Considering changing shifts, but have only personally known other MTs working nights because their spouse did and had no kids, etc.  Spouse works regular days, 3 kids...am I asking for trouble?  lol  If any of you out there manage this...how do you work out on the weekends on your days off?  No way it would work around here with me sleeping most of the day and leaving hubby to tend to 3 kids alone! Is it too hard to flip schedules between weekdays/weekends?  Thanks for any input.
I'm crazy enough to work nights with two schnauzers. sm
They wake me up promptly at noon - I open my eyes, and they are both staring a hole through my head. If I don't respond, Mollie claws at me, and Toby licks me in the face. I get up, let them out, then I go back to bed for a couple of hours.

I can't wait until we buy a house and are able to fence the yard! (or buy one with a fenced yard).
I work dayshift at another job and then work nights for MQ.
This board is my "getaway moments
30 hours divided by four days equals seven-hour days. Most of us have to work pretty much every day
.
Yes, most days 8-12 and 8-12. My choosing though. It works for me. nm

You can "make a living" if you work 16-hr days, 7 days
and if you rarely buy anything but food and the barest essentials in clothing. My balancing act is so precarious that all it'll take is one of life's little disasters (rent increase, sick pet, major car repair) to pull the rug out from under me. Not a good feeling at all.
I work 7 days a week because I work 3 jobs.
Workaholic here who would seek counseling if I had the time. hahaha
Anyone work 7 days a week with shorter work

I have arthritis in a couple of places, and I'm having a lot of trouble making it rhrough 8-hour days, even with split shifts, and I end up working most weekends anyway to make up for my decreasing production durng the longer days. I'm wondering if I should just commit to seven 5-1/2 hours days and be done with it.

You mean they work OUR holidays. They just had a big one that lasted 5 days and WE had work for a w

You think Indians don't get sick?  They have to be constantly sick in that disgusting place.

I work Sun.-Thurs. normally and will work on Fridays to get Sunday off if I need it. Works

I can see days when work is there..sm
I can understand a company saying "this is when we get the work." Especially if clinic. Docs see patients on Monday, dictate, and work is there to do on Tuesday. That could certainly be possible in a certain scenario. However, as an IC, you should have a TAT and be able to work whatever hours you want within that TAT. You shouldn't HAVE to go to employee status to get the hours you want. I don't think you asked any questions that were out of line. Sounds like it's not the right fit for you. There are plenty of jobs out there for someone with your experience so don't settle if you feel uncomfortable!
Let's do all our work for the month in 4 days. (sm)

Anyone else out there with this problem.  Just when you think the work is flowing fine, all of a sudden it's slow, no work, the doctors are on vacation.  Then they come back and whammo!  Your plans are shattered to continuously sit at the desk for 4 days straight.

I'm ready to quit and make hair bows for a living.

Rah, rah for hair bows.  No stress and if I work this hard, I could probably make more money.

MQ has no work. Hasn't had for many days. What are you being

There are requirements for insurance if you are FT

There are requirements for certain equipment if SE

I can't seem to get anything in writing from them, the rules are fluid.

What are you all being told?

Tuesday off -- work other 6 days /nm

If MTs want to work 10+ hour days
...more power to them.  Not me - I'm gettin' tired of this.  They're lucky if they get 6 hours out of me.  I worked 10+ hours a day and weekends when I first started.  Now, I could care less.  I may not perform 1200+ lines a day, but I have excellent QA.
I work 6 days a week- only 1 of these has - sm
weekend work and that is by choice - so I could have the weekend off too. Generally though I work Sunday; Saturday is the day we do things together; and Sunday mornings we usually go out and do something. So I have most of the weekend free to recharge and have fun.
I work 6 days a week....

I posted this before, but it got deleted somehow, so I'm sorry if this shows up twice. I work 6 days a week for about 4 hours a day. Sometimes it is 5 hours a day if the dictators are bad. I have found that since I have switched to this schedule, I am more productive since I am not so worn out, and I produce more per hour than I did when I was working an 8-hour day. But I must have at least 1 day off. I couldn't imagine working EVERY SINGLE DAY. Good luck!

I personally do not want to work on my days off..
nm
Computer crashed, cannot work for two days.
How do you prepare for something like this???  I wonder if the big "S" has compensation for this type of thing.  Hard drive needed replaced.  Egads.  And I cannot work off my schedule as I would be, you know, cheating.   This is a major financial hit.
scheduled days, I work 'em.....nm

Give her the same amount of work on the days
near the end of the pay period that she seems to be doing the rest of the days. I worked for a friend's niece, and if she did not think you were going to get the work done, she would yank it from you even if you were frantically trying to get it done.  She has a TAT to meet, and good accounts are hard to come by.
No. I work four 10-hour days. I'm really fast, really
occasions, about every other month, I might do 8-10 hours overtime.

How many days a week does your manager work? sm
Do you hear from them 7 days a week, 6 days a week, 5 days or what?
I work on my days off, but mainly because I haven't gotten 40 hours in for the
week and if I feel like working I am able to do so. Not working extra or anything, just have not gotten in a full week.
I work 7 days a week -- see message
I work 7 days a week. I work 30 hours Monday through Friday and 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday. I start at 3 a.m. through the week. Weekends are my time to sleep in -- LOL. I don't start until 5 a.m. My production is way up. I just can't do 8 hour days. I felt like I spent my 2 days off running errands and cleaning.

I have 2 kids who are school age. When I finish my shift, I go back to bed for a couple hours, get up, shower, and eat lunch. Three days a week I go to the gym for an hour and get home just in time for them to start getting home from school. The other days I use to clean house and run errands. It just seems I get more accomplished and have more time to do the things I enjoy with this schedule.

On the weekends, by the time I finish up everyone is just beginning to get up, so I don't feel like I miss out on any weekend time with my family.
I went back to work when babies were 9 days old
And yes, you can transcribe with TWO babies on your lap. It's a royal pain getting spit-up out of the keyboard though!

And before anybody starts a flame war on me, the boys are 10 years old now and now I get to work while they're asleep.... ;)
Yep and then everyone works and again NO WORK.
:
Works for most work so only need the one
I avoid Dictaphone C-phones, Lanies, Meditech, etc. and finally can do all accounts using one pedal.
What works for one, may not work for the other. sm
Every parent tries to do what is right for their own child. Not everyone has to agree, it really doesn't matter what others opinions are. What matters is you are doing the best for your child!

Good luck to all parents raising our kids in this crazy world! We have our work cut out for us.

Won't Work with MS Works

It HAS to be Word from MS Office; Word from MS Works will not work for some reason.  Your best bet would be to tell the company your problem and look on E-bay for MS Office 2000-2003.  It sucks, but I went through the same thing when I worked for a company who had EditScript.

Amanda

works best fo MT work
A wireless card works great, HOWEVER how close are you to a cell tower? -- and what kind of cell tower -- I worked with an air card on my laptop and its about dial up speed
What works for one does not work for all...
Personal experience is individual. Different products are better than ours. I agree with prior poster - try it, you might like it, if not nothing ventured, nothing gain!!
Bare amount of work for two days. They say the server is down.
Thank goodness I have a PT job or I'd be a mental case. This is not a good time to not be making an income, when the economy is in such a vulnerable state. I have just disconnected my second telephone line. Now, am going to buy a cord of wood to keep warm this winter as I doubt I'll be able to heat the house with natural gas from what they are describing the bills to be like ($800-$1000 per month).
DId NOT work. Had to pound the keys -- took it back in 2 days. nm

And then consider when you work 9 hours a day 7 days a week...that adds up to way TOO much!

I have work...16 hours' worth every day, 6 days a week no less. nm

my dial up works for the company I work for

I work for a company that uses MP Word.  They have an edition that is made to work with dail-up.  I just get the first dictations downloading, make coffee, clean the kitty litter, read e-mail or whatever.  Then once that initial  batch is downloaded, when I have about 10 minutes of dictation left, I just request more work and keep on typing.  I almost never have to wait for work after that, I just keep downloading as I type.

Sorry you have to use Medicrap, but I use IT where I work and it works just fine.
Its amazing how un-MT friendly that program is and how the hospital administrators don't care that Medicrap won't fix anything.
Plastic surgery only works if there's something there to work with in the first place.
She's been trying to look like her dad's "golden girls," Heather Locklear and Farrah Fawcett, for years, but it's not working, obviously never will.
I got it to work with Express Scribe! Works great!

I would charge more per line for working holidays or if asked to work scheduled days off. SM
But did you address that in your contract?
work out an indexing system that works for you and copy (almost) every report into it.

while Ops offer lot of challenges -- that's a good thing, imho, REALLY ...

I keep my op stored in WORD sorted by

(1) client

(2) specialty (general surgeon, ortho, plastic, podiatrics, ENT, GYN, GI , urology, neurosurgery etc) .... and then in word folders

(3) within speciality, within client I name individual reports like this:

470 hernia vental simple

470 hernia umbilical

470 small bowel resection

=========================================================

470 would be that doctor's id number -- the file holding 470's reports would be named with doctor's last name

=========================================================

works for me, although I do usually do big time "indexing" until I've gota bunch of copied reports.

=========================================================

It's really important to NOT consider these NORMALS until you are more familiar with the dictator ... however... this is worthwhile ANYWAY because the joy of OPs is that most doctors say pretty much the same thing in 80% of their reports ... sometimes more. Gastroenterology and GYN  are excellent "easy money" most of the time but you MUST pay attention and change every difference ...

All these saved reports need to be updated when you review your QA ... those phrases that doctor mumbled yesterday are probably mumbled 24/7/365 ... follow up and record this information.

=========================================================

I use Emedicine for my go-to for a lot of things... while they don't have op reports they are stellar at terminology and spelling, hyphens, and capitalization as far as I can tell.

One of the fabulous things about op reports is usually NO MEDICATION LOOKUPS!!!! (although you will spend time finding out the latest heart stents, hip replacemetn component marketing  names, etc. ) Most medical device manufacturers have "pretty good" web sites -- use them, rather than relative Google popularity wrt spelling, caps, etc.

Good luck -- there is a learning curve but imho it is more than worth it -- Surgeons understand that their dictation is in essence their "BILL" when it comes to Medicare and insurance -- they have a vested interest in it being intelligible and complete ... they may talk really fast but most of the time, if you have samples, you will find they are saying variations of the "same thing" using the same words/terminology.

Oh, and OP pay better.

Sincerely, good luck.!

Relacor didn't work for me, either. If I'm not exercising, nothing works. Gotta use it to lose

I'm on Nights
I just can't "turn into" a morning person.  My schedule is 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., but it's very flexible.  I don't have kids, but I live with my mom at the moment and she hates my schedule since she works days.  I love it.  I work days occasionally, but I get SO tired in the middle of the day, and when I work nights, I can stay up for a lot longer.  I love working at night; it's quiet, I can't distract myself because I have to BE quiet, I don't spend all day awake by myself while Mom's at work, etc...I don't have much of a night life, though.  That's a good thing, however, since I'm single and not really one to go out on the town.
With the heat, I'm going to try nights

I think my favorite account is getting cleaned out first thing AM, so I'm going to try nights for a bit.  Starting now!

Those of you who do nights regularly, any secrets to staying perky?
