Also work on eScription. Make more. Easier on wrists. sm

It's editing work, and the reason I personally make more is that I'm a slow typist but a fast reader and "punctuator." The eScription software is very easy to learn.

I work on Escription VR and if you cannot make minimum wage, then
something is really wrong with either you or your system. I make a very good salary on VR. It can be done even at 4 cpl and that is what I am paid. I have occasional straight but 90%+ is all VR. I do not understand people saying minimum wage- that is only 6 or 7 dollars an hour, ridiculous to work for that in this kind of profession.
I make my own candles - easier that way, and fun!

Much easier to make lines, but the pay sucks

Acute Care or Clinic????? Which is easier? Where can I make more
I have been transcribing clinic reports for the past 3-1/2 years (not for the same clinic).  My company does have some acute care accounts and occasionally asks for someone to switch.  I was just curious if anyone had any opinions on which is easier.  I mean where can I be faster and a better lph.. clinic or acute care?  TIA
As already said, expanders make multiple doctors easier. SM
Agree with everything said, including that you'll LOVE your Expander once you start using it. Treat yourself by starting with putting in all the stuff that especially aggravates you to type. That'll be the very last time you every do so. Like hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg p.o. b.i.d. My Keystrokes for that specific one are hyc25mpb and include a wrap code so the "25" always stays with the "mg" without my ever bothering over it again.

But the reason I chimed in was to point out that people who concentrate on building personal expander dictionaries can take their expansions to almost all employers (and woe the employer who can't accommodate the standard expanders) and apply them to thousands of dictators. They are not at the mercy of one particular employer and the availability of one particular pool of dictators, which is not a good position to be in in this very changeable world.
Make your life easier, pick which name to go by and have EVERYTHING match. sm
yes, it's a pain to stand in line at the SS office, adn the DMV, and you have to fill out forms, but avoid all confusion which WILL arise in the future with a little effort now.

replace "should" with "could" - there, doesn't it make it a lot easier now?

it does get easier and eventually things make sense to you even when you can't understand -
I was doing a Irish doctor, I could understand the medical terms pretty well, it was the easier, more normal words, I had trouble with.  Because of the lilting and very fast way he said it "three arteries and a vein" nearly drove me insane.
You're likely to make more money on the lower rate because easier to understand and can probably
faster and need less time to look things up, etc. Just my 2 cents.
I work on Escription platform and the adapter didnt work for me. I tried it on my laptop though
and the foot pedal would just not play correctly with the adapter. I think others have tried it and done it but it just didnt work for me.
Your MTs will find it hard to make any money with eScription.

I do radiology now, paid by the hour, work from home, can it get any easier than that?

No, don't work for Escription
no message.
You most definitely work for eScription . . .
Why not stop BSing us with that crap about doing 600 lines per hour? Everyone here knows that is not possible. You should be ashamed of yourself for luring us in, trying to convince us we will make more money with Edit Script. How can you sleep at night?
I work on Escription and will tell you what I know
You are told you will increase your line count x10 or so. That is not the case. My line count on straight wen from around 2000 or more a day to now approximately 3000 per day (some people do more) but that is all my audio on Escription allows me to do. I have worked for some time on this platform and if you had all the same people working, maybe it might learn but mine never improves too much. There is a lot of editing each and every day. Your pay goes down quite a bit. The pay is usually 4 cents and some places are going even lower than that at 3. something for VR. Some of the people who were on with me at first did not stay, did not like at all. I do not think it will ever replace transcriptionists because it can really mess up sentences, laughing, coughing, background noise will make it throw in words not there, plus it leaves out a lot of things. I would not think most are getting rich on VR now. If I could and younger, probably would accept a job like you mentioned, something involving nursing. I think that would be an excellent job choice because MTing is steadily going downhill. I hope this information is helpful.
I work for a comapny (not escription) who uses
I have done very poorly with line count. The VR is agonizing. I spend an inordinate amount of time making corrections to the reports done by VR at 3.5 cpl...so you are right...I'd have to do close to 5000 lines to make $150.00. Quite sad. Additionally, I at times have to insert normals, which with this system is time consuming.

Even when I type in this software, I'm having a good day if I can get 200 lines per hour at .07cpl. I am testing for other companies. I will starve on these wages.
I want to work on escription program
what companies use it? TIA
I also work on eScription and LOVE it.

How do you may Escription and dial up work?

Are there any MTs/VR MTs out there using Escription with dial up?  If so, please tell me how to get it to work becuase I have Escription on my computer, but I cannot get the first dictation downloaded.  If there is a setting somewhere that I need to change for my dial up connection please tell me.  I am begging.

Thanks so much

Escription and dial up..Will it work?

How do you make Escription and dial up work together?  I have a slow connection and I can get short dictations but no long ones.  Does anyone have any advice for me?

tx

Escription and dial up..Will it work?
What type of system are you working with. Editscript and satellite or dialup are not always the best combination.
Does Escription work with Vista?

Is there anyone out there doing VR on the Escription/EditScript software and using it with the new Vista operating system?  I am just curious if they work well together.

Thanks

Escription- saving work

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone out there who uses Escription can tell me if there is a way to save a document that is not yet completed?  Last night we had a planned power down to test the generator (we have one every month) and another MT and I were still in the middle of documents.  We just closed down figuring that it would do the autosave but it didn't save anything. My supervisor tells me it only does the save when the computer crashes or the power goes out. When we had Chartscript we could put the document on hold, but with Escription is it either upload it unfinished or lose it?  Is there any way to save an unfinshed report?

Thanks

Does Smartype work w/ Escription
Just wondering.  Thanks
I work on eScription and love it.
With the part-time position I have using eScription, straight transcription I average about $27-$28 an hour and with VR I can average up to about $34-$35 an hour. It did take me a little time and concerted effort to get there, though. I had to learn to keep up with the dictation and I have to really pay close attention but even with difficult dictators, I still do as well or better with VR than straight transcription.

I get 10 cpl for transcription and 5 cpl for VR.

So hooking the 9-pin to a USB adapter will still allow it to work with Escription?
That was my only concern.  I knew about adapters but didn't know if the pedal would still be compatible with Escription.  I know my USB pedal is not and my employer had to send me a 9-pin pedal.
Also LOVE LOVE ESCRIPTION and make good money but...
Can I ask how you sit there for 8 hours. Lately, I'm having a motivation problem. When I focus, I can rack up the lines, but lately, I get so easily distracted. My mind wanders and I struggle to get my lines. Any tips on how you stay productive who do you work for?? I work for Transcend.
Yes, unfortunately you do have to make a pest of yourself to make it work, but.....
as the years went by that is why I stayed away from those type of companies.  BTW, Noni is a fabulous product, I absolutely do not care for the "marketing techniques" they use.  One of the facts of this type of industry is you cannot just recruit to make it, you have to retail.  Ever since I "overhauled" my techniques and system...I never had to ask another person to some on board again.  Well, nuf for now.  Take care and have a blessed week!!
I had bad wrists from the get-go
I have had two ganglion cysts removed from my left wrist and one removed from my right wrist.  Also, in August 2005 I had sugery for DeQuervain's in my left wrist.  It was after this that I finished my schooling and became an MT.  Maybe I'm asking for more trouble, I don't know.  But this was what I really wanted to do, so I'm willing to take the risk.  I have been having trouble with my wrists since I was in the 6th grade...so I guess I'm used to it.  So far, things have been OK for me.  I haven't had any trouble, even from the most recent surgery.  I try to take at least 5-10 minutes every hour and stretch my fingers and wrists, and just give them a "breather".  I know I will end up with trouble in the future, however.  So, I feel your pain.
And sore wrists. Have you tried any of these?

Smart Gloves.  Google them.  They're wonderful.  About $20 bucks apiece but well worth the money.

Carpal tunnel type straps.  Wal Mart.  $10 bucks apiece.

I have both and I alternate.

I ended up with numbness in my right index finger, but after buying these, it just went away after a few weeks.  My fingers and wrists have some discomfort on occasion, but nothing like they were before.

One more thing, and I know people that do this, if you do "pound" the keyboard with your fingertips, relax those hands, elbows and shoulders and just tap. If that doesn't work, you may want to get a better keyboard.

Good luck!

sore wrists
I use Oregano Oil on my wrists and the tops of my hands. Sometimes it hurts to lift fingers and I run the Oregano Oil along those bones.
Invest in some wrists splints soon. ;) nm

good for a while, until your wrists give out.

Therapy for hands and wrists that keep me typing. sm

With a medium-weight rubber band around your fingers and thumb, stretch your fingers and thumb out as wide as you can against the rubber band.  Bring fingers back in then stretch them out again, repeat 10 times 2 to 3 times a day.

If you maintain a daily schedule with this you will definitely feel a difference.  Hope this helps!

Rings on 5 fingers, bracelets on both wrists. nm

Also wear Handeze. They keep wrists and hands
warm with some tension, not too much though, but helps with carpal tunnel also, being that they are elasticized.  I bought mine through craft catalogs, such as Herrschner's and Mary Maxim.  Can buy them through the catalog or online.
Sorry! Wrists at 180 degrees in same flat plane as

I have arthritis in my wrists and thumbs, and find - sm
it works just as well to make my own. I buy cheap, thin, snug-fitting gloves, then cut out the fingers so that about 2/3 of each finger sticks out. That way all knuckle joints, base of thumbs, and wrists are warm, and when they're warm, they rarely hurt & I can type faster.
personally, I cannot type unless my wrists rest on
something, and my right hand is more "pegeon-toed" inward than my left.

Isn't decorating cakes hard on the wrists and

I wouldn't be able to handle not making more money when I need to.

This board is not know it all and neither are the people who post here.  MT is not going away.  There are too many physicians and/or clinics that still use tapes.  Come on, let's be realistic.  There are changes and cut in pay, but do you not think the physicians are feeling the crunch as well?  They only get paid a certain amount from insurance companies.  They've been told not to prescribe certain meds.  It's not just MT, everyone is feeling the pressure of higher prices.

It's a shame you've never found a company that truly appreciates your work!  Good luck with the cake stuff!  I hope people don't quit buying cakes because of the price of food rising!  The economy is tough, very tough!

Oh, that is funny. What a visual...an MT with Frankenstein scars at wrists from

Tip on Aching Wrists/Target Laundry Detergent!
Okay, I have hesitated sharing this one for a long time now, cause I know, absolutely know, I will get flamed somehow, cause its sort of silly, but its not silly to those of us whose wrists and/or arms are shot from this "career".  I have really bad wrists now AND elbows - actually if your wrists hurt, chances are your tendons are aggravated right up to your elbow, too, though the pain might not localize there.  At any rate, I also found my wrist would hurt with some "ADLs", mostly laundry.  No matter what size of detergent I bought, they were always heavy, and the motion of pouring deturg into the cups really hurt my right wrist. Sometimes I could even hear an audible "pop" on that motion of holding this heavy bottle and pouring. My physical medicine guy said it was the motion of that with the weight on top of typing that wreaked havoc on my wrists, and that even lots of women who don't type have popped their tendons out using laundry detergent!  Well, this is SO stupid, but...a few months ago I went to Target and saw their brand "Method" laundry detergent.  Its super concentrated and fits 32 loads in a tiny bottle. Plus, its like those mouthwash dispensers where you just hold the bottle upright and squeeze and a tiny bit of the detergent fills in a tiny cup at the top. You fill to the line, which takes all of 1 second, and that's all the detergent you need! Plus, this stuff is awesome with the laundry.  Prior to that, only Tide could get my kids clothes clean. This stuff is the BEST, and it smells great! Its about $6 for this bottle, which I would have thought expensive, but the savings on my wrists are priceless!  My carpal tunnel and elbow tendonitis have nearly completely healed. It was just this stupid combo of motions that did my wrists in!  For those older MTs like me, who've been at this for over 20 years, try it! It might help!!  Again, I see a sports med guy, and get injections occasionally. I used to have to wear wrist braces, etc.  I was scheduled for surgery until I started using this silly Target laundry detergent! Now, no more pain!  Isn't that so weird? But neat?
Any suggestions for painful hands/wrists from typing?

My hands are always freezing cold.  I wear fleece "wristies" to keep warmer.  I have pain in both hands all day from typing.  One wrist has a ganglion, and both wrists have some arthritis showing on x-ray.  I rub capsaisin on hands/wrists.  Still the pain persists.  Pain relievers (Advil, etc.) do not help much.   Prescriptions from doctors did nothing.

I was wondering if other heavy typers out there might have found some helpful things to alleviate hand/wrist pain.  I even purchased "warming cream" which is supposed to help increase circulation to the hands, but it did nothing.  I have several keyboards that I have tried also.

THanks!

What do you do when your wrists ache and your hands weigh a ton but you have to keep typing?

I know I have read posts on here before regarding this topic but I can never find them in the archives.  Besides a different keyboard, is there something you can take like a vitamin or different foods that will help?  I have noticed that if I eat potatoe chips, my hands are stiff the next morning.  Is there a certain brace or splint you can buy that you can wear when not working or do you even wear these when working?  I thought I saw some magnetic splint somewhere.  I am not like this every day, just some of the time but when I am, it is very frustrating.

what keyboard would best help with arthritis in my long fingers and wrists
Doc says I do not have carpal tunnel syndrome or cubital tunnel syndrome, I have osteoarthritis.  Most painful in the long fingers and the wrists of both hands.  I have tried the ergonomic keyboard and just can't seem to adjust.  I do use the A-style keyboard layout and love it.  Anyone have one they use that is not as abusive to the arthritis.  Thanks in advance.
Mine are on a beanbag wrist rest. Need wrists at 90-degree angle

I make that much and work...
for a hospital, from home. My colleagues at the other hospitals in this area also make in that range as well.
I work for 2 companies and make
0.0825 cents per 65 character line with spaces at one and 0.10 cents per 65 character line with spaces at the other so it just goes to show it varies.
Depends on who you work for as to how much you make..
The first online company I worked for, unfortunately, found out later they were India-based. Anyway, I work in Escription and made SQUAT. It would take 12 hours or more to make $100. Now, I work for another company that uses Escription and I can make up to $26 an hour doing VR. I think these companies set something up in the line count as how to count it and also it depends if they pay for headers, footers, etc. I definitely got ripped off the first go round. I like the company I work for now and like Escription. You can make money on this platform, although I am paid more than 3.5 for VR. That is ridiculous.
I need computer help. How do I make PRD work

PRD is on my old MQ program, but I can't seem to get it moved over to my Microsoft Word page.  I can't seem to get my Stedman's Spell check over there either.

Help.
