I pay $25 a month for it instead of the $50. It's very fast!

Shorthand works great with DQS and is half the price
xx
Try FlashType, it works just like Shorthand but is half the price.
see link below
How frustrating! Maybe you could offer to charge them half price, but
I would not let them get away with taking advantage of you. I know you need the job, but it's not fair for them to expect you to spend all that time (especially over a holiday weekend) and effort for nothing. Offering to only charge them half price at least gives you something for your time and also offers them a break. It was their mistake - not yours but halfing it with them will hopefully show them that they are willing to work with them on it but also let them know you're not a push-over that they can take advantage of.

Good luck!
My telephone service is VOIP, but it s through my cable service, along with my cable internet. .
We have had VOIP for about a year now and I love it. I really can't tell a difference in traditional service, except the price. One of the best calls of my life was to Bellsouth to cancel our service!
Turbo Tax on the internet offers all this and no software has to be bought
I have used it for years and you save your whole return at the Turbo Tax site. I love it.
Cable vs DSL internet?
I have cable internet service and will be relocating soon to an area that has DSL.  Just wondering, since DSL goes through the phone line, is there any electrical involved; or should I say, if the electricity goes out does the DSL stop working.  I am wondering, if I invest in a laptop and have DSL also, if electricity goes out, would hardly miss any downtown, with the laptop having battery and all.   Is this correct?
cable Internet.
Cable Internet just recently became available to my area.  I was excited because most the MTSOs require cable.  I am currently on satellite.  I called about the cable internet and they said for a home office it is $80 per month and you only get 10 gigabytes or megabytes (don’t remember which) per month for downloading stuff off the internet. Then you get charged extra.  Is this normal for cable Internet?  It sounds strange to me but I am not very savvy on these sorts of things.
DSL vs. cable internet

Currently have AT&T/SBC phone service (landline),  Verizon Wireless cell phone, and Insight broadband internet cable and TV.  Monthly costs:

AT&T:  $50/month unlimited calling

Verizon:  $40/month with 400 minutes (and never even get close to calling that much)

Insight:  $45 internet cable and $45 cable TV

Total:  $180 per month

Thinking of switch to AT&T for bundle of phone, internet, and TV for total of $100/month.  Can't break Verizon contract, or would switch cell phone service too.  So, would save $40 a month by getting the AT&T bundle.

My question is:  Is DSL "elite speed" REALLY as fast as cable?  And does DSL have fewer episodes of service being down?  With cable, I've had entire weeks where the service was down, and I couldn't work; thus, didn't have a paycheck!  DSL tells me they "never" go down because I'd be on my server, as opposed to sharing a server with cable internet.  Speed is everything to me, as it is to all of my MT colleagues, but it's also important to have service that won't go down for long periods of time.  Any experience with these that you'd like to share?

dsl vs. cable internet
Hmmm....this is a dilemma. Thank you for your note. Do you think DSL, then, is more cost-efficient than cable? Do you have the "bundle" that includes landline phone,
DirectTV, and internet? Are all DSL providers relatively the same cost and service? Mine would be with AT&T.
dsl vs. cable internet
Thanks for your post. :) Do you think the DSL package is a better value than cable?
dsl vs. cable internet
Okay. When your DSL goes out, does your phone go out, as well? How long does DSL stay down? I know I'm asking a million questions, but want to make the right decision. Getting a divorce and moving out on my own, which is stressful enough. Want to make sure my work goes smoothly at my new place.
dsl vs. cable internet
Wow!  You guys are awesome with your descriptions of pros-and-cons of DSL vs. cable.  Think I'll stick with what I have for now (cable internet and TV; AT&T phone service).  Glad I asked you for your expert opinions before signing up for anything.  I'm such an easy mark for sales people.
I put my USB cable for my internet into the hub
I put my USB cable for my internet into the hub and it seems to be running just as fast.  I have a 7 plug hub and tried them all and it didn't seem to make a difference.  I'll just have to plug it right into the PC for now.  Thanks for the reply though!
I am thinking about it, I have TV and Internet cable. nm

Do you have cable TV/internet in your area?
We bundle our cable TV, internet, and telephone and save quite a bit by having all three together. You might check into that.
What do you do if internet goes down? How do you call cable?
I don't really need a cell phone but when the internet goes down, I have to go to a phone booth to call the cable company. Real pain. What do you do?
I have cable Internet and two computers
The cable guy who determined I need a new router said something about Linksys having a G and N (models?) and that the N was faster, but I usually get good advice here and want to know a little bit more before I go to the store and get hit up by the salesman. :)
My internet was down for the past 2 weeksends (cable)
and Comcast could not tell me why. They did not even admit it was a problem. What they did say when they came out was that it was fine. Oh boy! No kidding. They told me that others in the area had experienced the same thing so if it happened again this weekend, to make an appointment for someone to come out on the weekend! (can you see me giving 4 hours up during their 4-hour call window?). When the cable internet is out, there goes my phone because I also have Comcast phone. For the most part though, I can't complain as far as when it is up, it is much better than DSL. They just need to let the right hand know what the left hand is doing and when they are doing it. It is my guess, they take it down on weekends for work in the area, which is NOT acceptable as I need it every day.
to hook 2 computers to cable internet do ?
you need a router and a KVM switch - what else?  Will this cause problems?
if you already have cable/internet, you should get a deal for having the phone also.

Verizon DSL versus Adelphia cable internet - sm

I am thinking about switching from Adelphia to Verizon DSL internet service.  It seems that lately my service is off line more than online.  However, I have heard the DSL is a tad slower, which is one of my concerns.  Any happy or unhappy Verizon DSL users willing to share their experiences?

My high speed internet is through our local t.v. cable company. nm.

I have a KVM switch and using cable for my high-speed internet so what i needed ... SM

to connect my second computer to the internet was simply the ethernet cord along with the KVM switch box.  I actually work with a router, but it was simple to set up and works like a charm.

The price of gasoline is reflected in the price of goods. Having said that, one item
higher, MOMENTARILY, than Walmart, does not really make a case against Walmart. You want to make Walmart a bad guy because they don't have a shopper out there matching the grocery stores' price so be it. But MOST people I know shop at Walmart for lower groceries prices AS A WHOLE, and that is what makes Walmart successful. So buy your cheaper Bounty towels at your grocery store if that makes you happy. Your grocery store HAS TO MAKE MONEY and they will get you on something else. It is the retail law. Walmart will not be successful with higher prices than the grocery store. They aim to succeed. They have been sucessful in undercutting other stores. Your Bounty towels will not bring down the Walmart empire but it may cause you to shop at your grocery store where they will charge you more on other items to stay in business. Quit the knee-jerk responses. If you don't like Walmart and don't want to shop there that's all well and good. If you don't shop there because of Bounty towels, well that's just crazy.
I'll bring the dip and the half and half ;)

Comcast cable has ULD that goes through their cable sm
and there are no limitations. I asked them. They said that you could use the phone 24/7 and it would make no difference. The cable modem has a telephone connection and backup battery in there, all in one unit. If you lose your power, the backup battery kicks in for 12 hours I think they said. I personally was reluctant but it is clearer than Verizon regular phone service. Clear as a bell! It is $39.95 a month. If you have any cable service, you might want to check and see if they have this. This is VOiP protocol but I just have never seen anything that was as clear as theirs.

If Comcast has this, it is my guess that the other cable internet services either have it or will have it in the future. This is fairly new with Comcast.
Internet based transcription - need advice on how to go internet
Can anyone offer any help/advice on how go about becoming internet based from a call in system, or how to keep the call in system for the docs and put transcriptionists on the internet?  Not sure where to start to get information on how to go about doing this. Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.
If you want to work on the internet from home, take an internet course
But only from Andrews School or M-TEC. Many companies will waive the 2-years' experience requirement and will test and hire you if you go to either of those schools. Do NOT bother with At Home Professions, Penn Foster, US Career Institute, or ESPECIALLY Trans-Am, which is also known as Trans-SCAM and is a total ripoff. You will have a VERY difficult time getting hired without experience unless you choose Andrews School or M-TEC. Yes, they cost more, but that's because they are excellent training programs, not "correspondence courses."
Yes, yes and yes!!! I had so many offers...

after I graduated that I was shocked!  The standard 2-year experience requirement was waived by every company I contacted.

Yes, M-Tec is totally a self-paced, self-study program, but there is also incredible 1-on-1 instructor support.  The program is very comprehensive and definitely not easy but well worth every penny!

If you want a career as an MT, you can't go wrong with M-TEC.

CPL offers
are usually set in motion by what the MTSO is receiving in pay from the facility. As a small MTSO, I am very much restricted by what the facilities are willing to pay me as a vendor. It is an unfortunate circumstance, but it is a sign of the times. There are MTs willing to the work for 8 CPL, and if not, the Nationals outsource it overseas. I think that sums it up in a nutshell....It is a shame, but it is where the industry has gone of late. EMR, VR and outsourcing cutting into what a MTSO can get from the facilities for line rates. Sad but true....I hope you find what you're looking for.
I am not a CMT and I get job offers all of the
much unless you like having initials after your name.  It is not like you can put it on your reports.  XXX/xxx, CMT - can you?  So no one but the company you work for (who probably doesn't care) and you will know... nobody else.  Most CMTs complain they aren't compensated enough anyway, so who gives a hoot?  The only benefit I see is having initials after your name, which unless you are in this field, who knows what that means?  Sounds important, but to have to pay hundreds to test and then to fail only to have to pay hundreds to take it again?????  I'd think that one over and over and over and over... JMO.  A penny more a line???  Just seek out your own account and you'll make lots of extra pennies per line...  believe me!
It is only because no one offers that anymore
nm
I don't think anyone offers PT MTs benefits - sm
at least I have NEVER heard of any. I don't think I have ever even heard of any PT job that had benefits. All you can do is start making phone calls to said companies and ask them. Good luck.
Just because someone offers their opinion,...
and it differs from another's, does not make it negative.  You didn't hear what you wanted to hear in my responses, but that does not mean I am being negative toward you.  I just think you need to do your own work.  Asking for help is one thing, and asking for a handout is entirely different.
You may not need all that MPWord offers.

I've looked at MP Word several times myself and it just more than I need, although in a different setting/situation, I may need all the options. If you have a choice and you have MS Word available to you, you will be fine. You should have an encryption method available to you; WinZip offers encryption with it's Pro version, about $50.

Just something else for you to consider.

When you take on too much work. Getting 2 PT job offers plus have FT with national (sm)

Two local doctors offering me 2-3 hours per day each, plus the FT (about 6 actual hours of typing a day) with a national.

One doctor is orthopedic, the other vascular surgeon (H&Ps in office).  One is a mumbler, the other has a lisp.  The national job is radiology (fairly easy - would be faster if I could master IT, though).

What should I do?  Am afraid I will take on more than I can handle and at same time, refuse a job that I later will regret.  I need the money, needless to say.  Anyone ever face this?

I wonder if the state where you live offers
In Georgia they do have this, and a person who is convicted of a felony and completes the sentence requirements then has their rights restored, such as voting and the ability to officially answer "No" when asked about a felony conviction. Supposedly the information would not be available to a potential employer and most others, though I believe some are still privy to the information.
Does anyone know if IT offers a trial period? sm

From the comments on this post and the post I placed yesterday, I am convinced I would like to try IT.  I hate to spend $189 though and not like it but I do not see on their web site where they offer a money back trial period.  Also, do you know if you download it and have it immediately or if it comes in the mail? Thanks to all who have offered their opinions, it really helps!

Whoa, are you blessed! You see offers out here for 6-8 cpl
s
Only do Free offers - no cc needed!
Take a look at my blog again - even in free offers they are trying to sell you something, you simply say "No Thank you". Also, I included a couple of links that are how-to guides. E-mail me if you need more help or visit the forum. Best wishes!
For Iowa their 12 cpl is good. IHP usually offers...
11 cpl to contractors. If you're from Iowa IHP should be one you recognize, their statewide.

The local service in Waterloo, pays their MTs 6 cpl, ridiculous. Hospitals paying hourly are still around $9 hourly.

It's the midwest, for those others who don't know but cost of living is nothing near other areas of the country.

Personally, I work for a national on the east coast and make 10 cpl employee status, far better than anything I've seen in my home state.
Have 2 job offers, one pays 9 cents per 65...sm
character line and the other 11 cents per 85 character line.  I am not sure how to figure the difference so am not sure which might be the better offer line rate wise.  I would SO appreciate some help!
MQ offers PT employees benefits
You have to work 24 hours a week to be eligible.  I don't carry the insurance, so I don't know much else about it, but I'm sure if you read through the MQ board, someone on there will mention it and you can email them.
2 separate companies/offers
x
Medgarde offers PT and just noticed that they ask if you own Lanier.
nm
Obviously, she can or the offers wouldn't be coming out of the woodwork.
I've been turning down offers lately, too.
The place I work already offers 800 numbers for all
inside accounts and most outside accounts as well. Not all are not good to the MTs.
U.S. offers them medical school at a discount
if they remain in the country and practice in out of the way places for a period of time before returning to their country or to a higher wage earning position within the medical establishment.
This is cool...ShortHand offers monthly SM

subscriptions.  I have a free trial right now and was worried I wouldn't have the whole $99 after my trial, but I can buy a subscription and save for another month!  That's so cool!  I didn't know they did that.  Didn't know if others knew, so thought I'd share. :)

Have you seen: Internship offers 3cpl on Job Seekers Bd?
Even as an intern, that should be considered criminal. I don't understand what some companies are thinking when they do that sort of thing.

Just a thought.
Bytescribe offers a 14-day trial (DocShuttle).
