Wow.
...keystroke (I was cut off, I tell ya!) nm

Keystroke book

Someone told me there is a book called Keystrokes which tells you short cuts/auto corrects. Is that book worth the money, and where to get if it is?

My job pays by the keystroke!

keystroke to macro
Hi, I tried to look at my old "jump" macro, but in XP I cannot do this.  Assuming you are using an Expander (I used PRD back then) you create the name of the macro (mine was ALT-J) by inserting a "find" (so it will find @ or ? or whatever you call your place for the insert) and there the key is to create a destructive backspace so that your work will be without extra space/spaces.  This destructive backspace will remove your @ or ? or whatever you use on your template and allow you to insert your data.  If I could pull mine up (and wish I could do this more easily) I would just paste it here for you.  Good luck!  If I manage to get mine out of its "resting place" I will post it to you.
But - a space IS a keystroke, unless you only get

Keystroke lag problem. Please see message

My computer is bogging down terribly causing keystroke screen appearance delays, input hesitation and delay, and lags in moving anything on screen with the mouse.

I use Instant Text and when the continuations go into the screen or if I cut and paste from Wordpad, the Keystrokes are randomly lagging / hesitating for seconds before they appear on the screen.

This is really frustrating. It is difficult to type cause you don't see what your typing appearing on the monitor.

This only happens in Meditech.  Not in Wordpad.  And it occurs at 3 PM or about that time after I have been typing since 8 AM

It is so bad, it is impossible to do a report.  I did a search and found similar problem but no solution except that "Citrix and Meditech hate each other."

Comcast is my ISP.  Help Desk increased speed on the VPN but that seemed to only make it worse.  Has anyone experienced this and then fixed it?

Thanks!  I am desperate (money is going out the window).

Think twice before you agree to be paid by the keystroke. sm
If you agree to be paid by the keystroke, you probably won't be being paid for any macros or IT entries. For example, if your IT entry for COPD is copdx, you'll only get paid for 5 Keystrokes and not the 37 that it would normally be if you're being paid by the character, like on a 65-character line, when the whole "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" counts. From what I understand, you only get paid for the actual letters your fingers type in.
Yes, keystroke lag is sending me over the edge.

NDMT, to record your own keystroke macros, SM
in SH: While you're typing, hit ALT+Insert, type a name for your macro on the first line that says "keyword," then hit ALT+R to turn on record (or hit the record function on the right side with the mouse).

Then just type the Keystrokes of your correction. When you're done, use your mouse to hit "stop" on the little window that's waiting in the upper right of your screen. Or hit cancel if you goof up, and you'll be able to try again.

Here's one to try: To back up, insert a period, space, and type "The" to start a new sentence (how many times do you do THAT to break up runons in a day): Turn on "record," position your cursor at the beginning of any word and type those keystrokes (back up to the word behind, hit period, space bar, and type "The"). Then hit "stop." I named mine ".t" (one guess why).

The only trick to remember with this is one more thing. After you hit "stop" it takes you to the first box you started with. With your cursor still positioned at the very end of your new macro string, use your mouse to open "tags" on the bottom left and choose "nospace." That keeps it from auto-adding a space at the end because you already usually have one there.

In case your system doesn't provide you with a macro for changing the case of a letter, here's one you'll find very helpful to copy into your macro text box instead of recording it:

{@NoSpace}{@KEY Shift+Right}{@KEY Ctrl+Alt+C}{@KEY Left} I named this one "F" because it's right under my index finger. Flicking that key (and activating by hitting "Enter" or whatever key you're using) changes the case of the letter it's to the left of--lower case becomes upper, upper becomes lower.

And here's the one you asked for to copy the preoperative diagnosis under a postoperative diagnosis heading:

{@KEY Enter}{@KEY Up}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEY Right}{@KEY Right}{@KEY Right}{@KEYUP Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Shift}{@KEYDOWN Shift}{@KEYDOWN Shift}{@KEY End}{@KEYUP Shift}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}c{@KEYUP Ctrl}{@KEY Right}{@KEY Enter}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYUP Ctrl}{@KEY Ctrl+B}{@KEY Caps}postoperative diagnosis{@KEYDOWN Shift}{@KEY Ctrl+B}:{@KEYUP Shift}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}{@KEYDOWN Ctrl}b{@KEYUP Ctrl} {@KEYDOWN Ctrl}v{@KEYUP Ctrl}{@KEY Caps}{@NOSPACE}

You use this with the cursor positioned at the end of the preoperative diagnosis. It only works if the heading is "preoperative diagnosis:" I'm pretty sure there are better ones available for copying if you look.

Have fun trying a couple out. I think you'll find them addictive. :)
This is my exact complaint

The looking up of addresses is ridiculous. I don't care HOW fast you type or HOW many macros and shortcuts you have, nothing will prepare you for that! The platform is user friendly where I work also. Most of the time with this company, I'm making less than $10 an hour because of this... and this job is my overtime job!

It's a small MTS and I really don't want to work for a national (from all that I hear on this board), so what does one do? How does one find the smaller companies to work for?

You are correct. If you have a complaint about something sm
they will tell you to go find another job. Communication with them is the pits.
Ridiculous complaint?

Busy, you should really try to be a little kinder.....or read her complaint a little more closely.  I think her complaint was not about CONSTRUCTIVE feedback.  If she gets hard copies she can't read, what good are they?  Just how ridiculous this QA thing can get; one of the editors in a company I worked for corrected my "40-year-old black female" to 40-year-old Black female."  No problem, if that's what they want, that's what they get.  I corrected my Expander to "Black."  Editor #2 comes along and corrects me saying "black or white" is never capitalized.  I fired back a very disgruntled e-mail and said editor #1 had corrected me and that I KNEW black was never capitalized but if they wanted it capitalized, fine with me but somebody needed to get their sh*t together and figure out what they wanted from me.  At least with that company, editor #2 had some sense, she sent back a very nice e-mail saying that to appease editor #1 to go ahead and capitalize it until I was off QA and then do it whichever way I wanted and in the meantime she would not count me off for it.  At least editor #2 had some sense but ridiculous?  YES, indeed.

Busy, if you're working for both MQ and Spheris, I assume your experience is about the same as mine.  I worked for MQ and for Spheris when they were Edix.  Once I was off full edit (in a very short time), I never heard anything from either company QA again so I assume they were happy and I went right ahead doing my best.

Then it's already gone, why post a complaint?
I'm perplexed by this.
biggest complaint
would anyone else say that the biggest complaint as a Transcriptionist would be leg cramps and back pain?  and what suggestions would you give to help?
I ain't never heard this complaint before.

Complaint? What about a lawyer?
But why do you need a sample of a complaint? Write a letter explaining the details and mail it to the administrators of the hospital and copy it to the same people at the headquarter address (CEO). Ask for a response and mail it certified with a receipt requested.
Legitimate complaint
I think you are cheating yourself by not keeping a tally of the lost lines .. open a word document on your second screen and copy and paste these lines each time .. takes a few seconds and you need to be paid for what you are being asked to do .. otherwise, request a reprieve from this guy. Venting is one thing and it helps a little but cold hard cash actually speaks back to you!
Definitely not...how do you know if it's a valid complaint?...(SM)
This happens very often with abuse claims. A case is started, the claim is false, someone's reputation is wrecked, and it costs them a fortune in legal fees to restore it. If you are worried she is not getting help or advice, the only discrete way to find out is fake a spontaneous meeting and get into conversation with him/her and go from there. You could never let it be known that you read her/his records...records that she thinks are confidential. (Boy, are a lot of people in for a shock.)
My only complaint with mine is that...
my 2-year-old located the playboy channel (that I did not even know existed) in my car. Not such a big deal now, but I wish there were a way to disable it because someday, he won't be two anymore. Also, it taught him to scream the F word over and over and over again.

How to file a complaint for services....please sm
I'm not sure if this is the correct board. I was wondering if anyone knows of a site that I can get a sample on a complaint that I would like to file to the administrator of a hospital. My mom has non-Hodgkin lymphoma and during her last 3 visits at the same hospital, they gave her the wrong medication. This is the medication that she has a severe reaction to. She has hallucinations, toxicity, etc. to this medication. She is in a different state and I would like to file a complaint to the administrator to prevent this from happening again, as she is in and out of the hospital. Thanks for the help.
She worked all those years with no complaint.

You want us to have "O" work? They would track that complaint in a heartbeat.

communication and reality.

Talk about your drugs or your dinners.  Pass over MQ.  We won't mind a bit.  Our lives are rough enough already without biting comments.

We are trying to dig out of the quagmire MQ/Philips has put us into.  Like I've said, MTing is no longer a profession or can be considered a "real job".  At best it is pickup work or sideline extra non-necessary money because one certainly can't depend on the money.

Work is not saved for certain MT's. I hear same complaint

Glad you filed a complaint and that you're okay.

Chief complaint: Breathing. (just had to share that with you all--nm)

File a complaint with the attorney general

I called HR and I did not know you had to follow up with a written complaint. Is there an email
address for written complaints at MQ. The HR person sounded all disgusted and I am sure she has been getting tons of calls.
how to file a health insurance complaint - any hints?
Background - I had to have radiation treatment for colon cancer and for the most part charged everything on my VISA.  I have all the VISA receipts.  Two office visits I wrote separate copay checks, which have cleared my bank.  The billing company for the oncologist says I still owe $20 copayment which I absolutely positively refuse to pay.  I have faxed to them a copy of all the VISA receipts and have spoken to the billing office and they have receipt of the two checks so they have receipts of all my visits/copays.  My insurance company says I only owe a single copay per visit so if the billing company says they have received the copayments then I have fulfilled my contract.  So who do I complain to?  It's bad enough to have to go through radiation, but now I'm getting burned again (LOL - punny punny, gotta laugh) because of their inadequate billing system.  Grrrrr.  I am so incredibly mad I feel like, go ahead, turn me over to a collection agency and MAKE MY DAY!!!!!  Anyone else go through this rigamarole/nightmare and who did you complain to?  I want people's bottoms to get waxed on this - I have spent literally hours on the phone trying to clear it up, not to mention the cost of mailing/faxing/etc.  Thanks in advance.
Filed complaint with Better Business Bureau against MTSO
for nonpayment after 90 days. Requested payment multiple times to no avail. Nothing but empty promises. Has anyone ever been successful getting paid after going through the BBB?
Go ahead and file a formal complaint. Then it is on record this dog is a hazard and if it happens

Will filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and District Attorney do me any good if a sm
I live in a different state than her.  Also the amount is less than $100.  Thanks.
Well, Word is easy to buy and easy to install. Word 97 works great. Cheap. SM
I still would not work anywhere I could not use a spell checker with grammar checker and a Steadman's Medical Spell Checker.

IF they want people to TRANSCRIBE MEDICAL REPORTS, then I guess they better get the programs they need.

It's like probably 110% easier to buy and install Word 97 than to try to program their own programming. And, yes, I do mean Microsoft Word 97. Why? Because you can install it unlimited times, in case you need to install the operating system again. And it has a few features that Microsoft, in its un-wisdom, took away in Word 2000 and 20003 and 2007. So, yes, I'd go with Word 97 for its cheapness and it works better than the later versions. Just my opinion, with 20 years experience being an MT. So what if they "don't have it" on their computer? It's easy to get.
Easy easy money they are!

I don't mind seeing those puppies filter in at all.  Same for H&Ps.  They are always different though, so can't really pop in the same pre-formatted autotext, but it's usually WHAMMO 2-3 pages at a time.  Give them a shot...you may just be pleasantly surprised!

At least you know. You are the main one doing it. DUH

I think I smell either VR on the easy stuff, or offshoring of the easy stuff.

See the Main page...
for a brief history of MTStars, see the main page.

Sheri Steadman runs her own little company, USAType, Inc.
(Scroll this page to bottom to read last two lines).

Forget the affiliation with MQ or anyother company involved in offshoring "MTStars is staunchly against the offshoring of American Private Health Information".

Many companies like MQ, Cymed, Spheris etc etc. are banned on MTStars to post any jobs as well for advertising and sponsorships.

I love to visit these boards because I know I am on 100% US MTs site.

it's the same main page, but when I go to look
up something and get results, it is the results page that is really different.
this should be on the main board, because
nm
It's the MAIN BOARD
I thought we could gather as MTs at the main board and discuss pets, TV, etc. if we wanted to. This was more a comment on the show rather than an attempt to open up a discussion about sex change anyway.

FWIW, I thought the show was funny last night. I did feel a little squeamish when Zachary was on, though. He seemed to come away with the impression that he was being discriminated against because of his look, or the way he? is, and didn't seem to understand that he can't sing. What's new, though. I think my favorite so far, though, has been the "I shot the sheriff" guy.
What is the main board for?

A week or so ago, I responded to a post from someone who was asking about Files To Go. My message was wiped from the board after a very short time. This morning in my email box was a digest from MT Stars by a person asking where her post went...she was asking about keyboard trays. I can't find either one of her messages on the board.

Why are our messages being deleted from the system?

Main Board

I'd like to thank the administrator for helping me with my question about the main board. Being new here, I looked around for "instructions" but must have overlooked them. It's nice to see the administrative message at the top of the main board explaining how to use it -- I took the word "main" litearlly, as others new to this board possibly have.

I do have a question. When I signed up at Yahoo-Groups , I signed up to receive daily digests, which are digests of the main board. Is there a way to receive digests of the boards listed on the left?

Main Board

Does the active topics selection at the top of the page show all active topics for each category at left or just certain ones?  Thanks.l

Yes, after all this is the main reason
Staying at home is not just to take care of kids, but to maybe take care of an elderly parent or for that matter a disabled family member, which could include a spouse.  When I chose this profession, I was on-site and spent 17 years there putting my children in daycare.  You really do not know anything about me and are entitled to feel how you want.  I just don't think everyone should be so negative about someone wanting to stay home, supplement their husband's income, while being with their children.  Different strokes for different folks.  I wanted to simply say that the time you spend with your children can never be replaced.  This is after all a job that can be done at home.  Transcriptionists are not the only ones with at-home businesses.
Go to the IT main forum sm
it states there is a work around until the next revision comes out, right there under announcements.

Yes I did but I am missing the main
xx
I keep a main glossary
for english phrases like "There was no" and phrases that would be used in any medical report like "The patient was". I keep a separate glossary for each medical specialty. I put each docs phrases into their specialty glossary rather than giving each doc their own glossary. So all ortho docs phrases go into my ortho glossary, etc. Then I just include my main glossary and my drug glossary with the specialty glossary. I do one doctor who repeats the same sentences in each report, so I do have a glossary just for him, but he is an exception. I can usually do a 40 line report for him and never had to type a complete sentence. He is awesome!
I think the main point...

we need to understand as transcriptionists is that EMR does not necessarily mean the end of traditional transcription.  We need to make a serious effort to educate ourselves about the changes that are happening and try to find a way for MT to grow with expanding technology.

Word expansions ... that is the MAIN
help for me. I do have good accounts but they have ESLs and some non-ESLs who are even worse. I have to slow down for them but then try to make up my speed with the next good dictation.

I put EVERYTHING into word expanders...words, phrases, etc. EVERYTHING. I couldn't do half my line counts probably if I didn't use my expanders so well.

Don't answer the phone. Don't check email or forums until I take a break. Don't eat or drink while working.
why are you posting on the main board ??
