Dance Classes
I have 20+ years of dance training (ballet, jazz, tap).  From what I see, jazz and hip-hop would both help with drill team.  Jazz more so, but I know some drill teams are getting a little edgier with the hip-hop style.  If I can help with any other questions, feel free to email me.
Does anyone take dance classes for exercise?
I'd like to get out of the house once in a while and can't stand the gym.  I just don't want to be the only adult student among children.  LOL
TEEN PROBLEMS

I wish I had all boys!  How do you deal with a teenage girl who continues to lie about everything.  Sweet in your face one minute and the next thing you know it is all a lie.  It is so devastating every time it happens.  It breaks my heart.  We have even tried counseling.  This is a girl who has everything going for her.  She's beautiful, talented beautiful voice (college scholarships), athletic and top student.  She draws trashy boys like flies and tries to hide the relationship from us because she knows we will disapprove.  Daddy teaches at the same high school so it is hard on them both.  Him, because what she does reflects on him and the little respect he gets from his students and her, because I know it has to be hard having Daddy around all the time.  But she has not earned our trust.  There has been one incident after another for four years (She is a junior in high school).  Just when we begin to trust just a little, we find something else.  Last night while we were at a meeting, she had a "boyfriend" whom we do not approve of, come to our house.  How she got her little brother to keep quiet I don't know but I will find out.  (He is the worst secret keeper.)

My husband and I are struggling financially to provide the things she needs to further her talent and school activities and functions.  The latest is giving up things we usually do for Christmas to buy her a used vehicle.  Now, after this latest stunt I can't justify it or trust her enough to let her get into to go anywhere.

Thanks for letting me vent.  Anyone have any advice?

teen problems
i could have written this post myself. at least we have seen the boyfriend, still do not like him. if you talk to any parent of teenage girls this post could have been written by anybody. wish i had all boys also.
To Tia on teen problems

I'm not sure why you think boys are easier.  I have both and they all try to pull the same stunts.

Most are doing great but one in particular (a boy) could just as easily have been your daughter.  Lie, lie, lie and he acts like we have stupid written on our foreheads or were never teens.

With the last "minor" accident, but the 4th one, the car is locked up tight and Lord, you'd think we were depriving him of food and water.  Thank God he has never hurt anyone or himself but when you already have restrictions, (no use of cell phone, no more than 1 kid and only a sibling in the car)...well...you just can't justify letting your girlfriend drive the car home because you were feeling "kinda dizzy"........He just does not get the drift of the need to call home for any reason that he can not handle, and especially if your "kinda dizzy" 56 miles from home when you were supposed to be right around the block...

He's sulking, trying to make our lives miserable, disrupting the rest of the household, but I've now put a chart up and for every act of defiance, whining etc, another week gets added to the lack of wheels... took him a couple of hours and 4 more weeks tacked on to realize I mean business.

Christmas vacation is coming up and guess who will be w/o wheels during it

You have to realize that your not her friend and the decisions you make now on your expectations and her inability to follow them needs to be cleared up.  Hang in there, they do eventually grow out of this stage...only to head into another one.

I have a teen son with acne, not bad and

not cystic.  We've been to the dermatologist twice without success.  He now uses a generic (Wal-Mart) version of Proactiv and it isn't 100%, but lots better.  Accutane can cause you to be suicidal and to me the risks just are too great versus any possible benefit.

The blackheads can be handled with good hand washing, keep his hands off his face, washing his hair daily if it is oily like my son's, and washing his wash a couple of times a day.  The white heads could be handled with a soft puffing, like those disposable pads that are on the market.   There are antibiotics that might be helpful.  There are lots of OTC products that might be a little pricey, but I would exhaust every possible option before trying Accutane.   We have a local oral/maxillofacial surgeon that has a clinician in his office to help with skin problems and they sell products that are not prescription.  I can't remember the name, but do a goggle search for acne products.

I worked as a teen..
and I think it's a good experience. My dad didn't want me to work, but I insisted because I wanted my own money.
Well, I never worked as a teen (more)
and I had next to no responsibilies, had a new car and a checking account that was always just magically filled with money. It was a huge disservice to me. No teen is going to turn down a life like that...they just don't know any better, but my life would have been much easier had I learned responsibility as a kid rather than struggling to do that as an adult.

My parents are wonderful people and did what they thought was best. I just wish they would have been a little "meaner."
combo MT/MC classes

I am thinking of taking a Medical Transcription class.  My sister who is a Physician's Assistant tells me I should do coding instead.  Does anyone know anything about the combo classes and whether they are a good idea and if they prepare you enough?

Thanks

Do you think they will pay for my spelling classes??? lol

I got to take some training classes...
that were provided to me free by my employer, which helped me learn the basic concepts. Then I just tried to start thinking outside the box a little bit, looking for things that annoyed me that I could change by using IT. Basically any sequence of keys or commands you type on the keyboard, you can program into IT. So for example it drives me CRAZY when a doctor starts dictating a paragraph and then says #2 when he didn't say #1, or the other way around, when he always says #1 and then there's no #2 and my account rules are that you have to fix that. So I wrote down the combination of keys that it took to go up to the top of the paragraph, take the number out and then drop back down to the bottom, and I made a shortcut out of it. You can use the command function in IT to insert things like ctrl/shift and the up arrow to take you to the beginning of the paragraph or the search/replace command to change Diagnosis to Diagnoses. I just kept track of what keys I was typing to do certain things and then made an entry for those. Some of them took some tweaking but once I got them exactly right they make my day go much more smoothly. There's also a website, I believe it's www.productivitytalk.com, that gives a lot of tips and tricks to use with IT. Hope that helps.
I took coding classes and took the
test, which is about 5 hours long, passed it on the first try, have my credentials, but haven't done any coding at all, just MT work. I am considering going to coding bootcamp to brush up on my skills and bite the bullet and just do it. There are many work at home jobs available, but just like being an MT, the best thing is to work in-house for a couple of years to get some experience and then work at home. Have a couple of friends who did that and they love it.
take grammar classes
It is
'You are stupid' or you're stupid', not 'your stupid'.

And don't take things out of CONTEXT.
I worked as a housekeeper as a teen.

It paid maybe $.20 more than minimum wage.  I think you can make more than that as an MT, don't you?  You just haven't found your fit yet.  If housekeeping is something you really want to do, go for it.  It was a really nasty job, though.  I'd rather do transcription at home than clean up after a bunch of slobs.  Oh, disgusting.  And the things people would leave behind in their rooms.

I did not work as a teen as my parents would not let me - sm
I did look for work though and tried to get work locally (i.e. walk or ride bike) but there was not much around us and the 2 positions I tried for I did not get unfortunately. My mom refused to drive me anywhere (driven out by my 2 older brothers so I suffered), I bummed rides everywhere or rode my bike, but my 3 best friends either had a car or had one available to them so I got around okay, but was not allowed to work (only 1 of my friends worked but that was only because her father had a business he ran out of the house). So I tried to earn money where I could but it was few are far between, dog sitting, cutting neighbor's grass on a regular basis for $10 a pop every 2 weeks, the odd babysitting job (not a lot of little kids where I lived at the time), think I made about $25 a month in the summer months. I wish they had let me work while I was in school. I did work after I graduated though, my summer job (warehouse/front office gopher where my mom worked) before college was my supply money for college, and I work a few PT jobs during school as well, probably $50 a week but it helped. But YES teenagers should be allowed to work as long as their grades are good. We plan to have our 2 work at King's Dominion once they are old enough (only 14 miles away) for summer jobs, I might too, who knows!
Unless he is being interviewed by another teen (probably not), shorts are NOT appropriate. What is

I hired a neighborhood teen (sm)
I had my children at home, and hired a responsible neighborhood teenager. I worked part-time during the day with the sitter and then a couple of hours in the evenings when my husband got home. This was much cheaper than day care plus I got to take breaks and see my child and if my children skinned a knee or were really upset, I could take a break and take care ofYou need a backup in case the sitter is unavailable. It worked really well for me. Even better if you know another mom nearby with a child your chid could play with. Don't be fooled though - it is challenging and you will be tired, but was worth it to me :-)
I teach classes online.

MTWerks has some training classes on IT. sm
http://www.mtwerks.com/InstantText.htm

I have not personally done any of her IT classes, but I did once go to a seminar she held in my area and I learned a lot of computer/word based shortcuts. She is or was an MT and has come up with these seminars/classes to help productivity for MTs, more in the "keeping the hands on the keyboard" kind of thinking rather than using mouse, etc. It helped me tremendously and I still use a lot of her tips.

Someone also posted on her maybe a year or so ago a website that had a lot of tips about naming your shortcuts/expanders and how to remember them, but I cannot recall what website it was. Maybe do a Google search and see what you can find?
Check out the classes and hang in there anyway...
Does your hospital provide funds for continuing education? Can you change shifts? Don't out-and-out quit just yet, you truly don't know how good you probably have it if you've been working for a hospital and not for a national. I pine for my hourly pay hospital days, ha-ha, though a lot of what went on got on my nerves at the time. Good luck but again, give it a lot of thought, take a few days off if you can.
There is no charge for grads to take the classes.
I just finished the course and signed up for the classes and did not pay a dime. You may be confused by the $50 Review Guide that is recommended to study with.
dance
See if they have a class strictly "technique" for dance team. My daughters danced with band for years and took "technique" class. If no technique, ballet is the best basic before moving on to the other dances.
I would like U2 dance...
take a cha-cha-cha chance!
Dance
I work 2 MTs jobs as well, but I make time to take beginning dance classes for adults at least 2-3 times a week. I also recommend Pilates for relaxing and stretching.
So you think you can dance
Is anyone watching this?  I haven't seen it, but my MIL says it is really good.  I'm tired of the reruns of House and some of the others.  I know that someone mentioned Medical Incredibles (something like that) and I have watched it a few times.  Just wondered if this show was as good as American Idol or similar.  Of course I can't miss an episode of All My Children - been watching that since 1970 (I was 10).  I'm just looking for some good TV to help me relax after a day at work.
I'm a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance. sm
I like it a lot better than Dancing With the Stars because these are mostly highly trained amateur dancers, wtih a few street dancers in the mix. They have them paired up, and they randomly pick all different kinds of dances to do each week....so you might have a ballroom dancer girl paired with a hip-hop guy, and they have to perform a Cuban Samba (that was one instance this week). Next week those two will do something different. It's funny to see a classically trained ballet dancer attempt to do hip hop, or a hip hop dancer attempt to do modern lyrical dance, but for the most part they really are superb. The ballroom men always are my favorite...

My pre-teen Halloween story - happened about

There were always literally hundreds of kids out in our neighborhood on Halloween.  When I was about 12, I got a gray wig and messed up the hair, a rubber mask with a large nose and lots of wrinkles, wore an old long plaid robe tied at the waist and socks with open-toe bedroom slippers.  So here I am, messy gray hair, ugly face, robe and slippers and walked with a limp down the dark street.  Two men were waiting at the end of a driveway for their children.  Here I come, limping by and one man pokes the other one in the side and says, "Hey, Jim.  Is that your wife or mine?"

I will remember that for as long as I live.

A girl in one of my classes volunteers as a doula -
I think it's a pretty neat idea, although this girl is about 22, very cute with a slender little body, and has never had a child before!  But actually she does have the personality for it; very compassionate and caring.
P.S. Channel some energy into agility classes
perhaps! Sounds like a great candidate if he/she can jump and get your sunglasses! Lots of classes for agility in most areas, and lots of fun for dog and owner, not to mention exercise! Woof!
Try Irish dance!

My 16-year-old daughter got involved a couple of years ago, and it's wonderful! I had to sit through all the classes as I'm our area coordinator, so I decided to join the adult classes. It's a very social dance form, especially with adults who do a lot of what is called ceili dancing, which essentially dancing with a group of people. In Ireland, it's not unusual for 4 to 100 people to get together than do progressive dancing (stopping for a pint of Guinness as needed) for hours on end.

To look for a school in your area, go to http://www.geocities.com/aer_mcr/irdance/irteach.html

Whatever class you take, YOU GO, GIRL!

Doing the happy dance...
We just moved into a newly bought house (same neighborhood as we rented in) and we're now in bus riding range (too close before).  Today was the first day of school so I drove my kids, but I looked out the window this morning and what do I see but a group of kids congregated at the opening of my driveway.  My house is a bus stop!   My kids will be let off the bus at the opening of their own driveway.  What luck!

I have thought about it as my 2 daughter take dance - sm
Their school is basically pre-school all the way through high school, but they also have adult classes as well.  Since we are a bit rural it is cheap too, about $25 a month for 1 class a week (so $6.25 a class), not bad for a 1 hour class once a week.  They put on a kickass recital every May too which is quite impressive.  I may try it next year....want to shed my poundage first, have been working on it and 7 pounds lighter so far......have about 60 or so to go.....so we will see.

keyboard happy dance
Wow! I have used the microsoft ergo keyboards for years..the last one being the 4000 model. It seems after about a year the keys get a little sticky or something and my wrists start to hurt and arms fall asleep, even at brand new I have a little of this problem. I just got a Goldtouch keyboard and wrist rests today and I cannot tell you the difference I feel after just one shift of work. WOW! I am a total convert!!
I'm doing a crazy happy dance!

I know this is not the religion board, but I have to give a shout out - so if it bothers you look down real quick. Psalm 116:1 I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Thank You Lord for Your faithfulness. You have seen every tear and every time my wages have been changed by Medquist. Thank you, Lord Jesus!

I am beyond excited this morning! I have been busy, busy, busy on the Internet since Saturday night, following a trail on earning money on the Internet. I did not even sleep Saturday and then went to church all day Sunday and then back on the computer Sunday night. Anyway, after many, many hours, the Lord just dropped a site on me, I don't even know how I got to it. Well, I signed up and started making money answering surveys! So far, I have made close to $60 in just a few hours! This is for real. I am mad, because it is too easy. I know how I have struggled in the last few months, really the last several years, to earn a decent wage. I have years of data entry experience, and that is how I am looking at this. Just keep the forms moving. Advertisers are willing to pay for exposure, hoping to influence your buying decisions. With this, all I needed to start was my email! I was so impressed, I set up a new blog that has all the details, some tips and the link. The company even asked me to share a testimonial. The site has great support. All the details are in my blog, but basically you get paid per form (the ones I did paid 0.60), and they estimate doing at least 12 an hour. We Ts know how to move records!  I did 16 forms an hour easy last night, and like I said, I am just getting started. You can listen to your favorite TV show while you do this! Great referral earnings too. You can e-mail me if you have any questions or if I can be of help. I am glad things have been going better with the Q - the additional bonuses and OT has been great. But this makes me really happy.
