I agree with the average as 0.08 to 0.85, however if you type 200/lph you will make much more than y

What average line count do you type per pay period. what is considered above average and how long

On average, how many minutes do you type a day?

I am curious to know how many minutes on average does an MT type a day, by either digital or tapes.  And perhaps this is too personal, but how much do you earn weekly with those minutes.  I am also aware it depends on what city or state we live in, which can vary the salary earnings too.

I do enjoy my work as an IC, but feel that I do not make very much.  I cannot complain though, I have plenty of work, I just really wonder if I do not put enough time into typing per day, or perhaps I need to really consider raising my rates.

Thank you.

How long on average (hours) does it take to type

I know it depends on lots of things such as difficulty, typing speed, expanders, etc.  Just looking for how many hours people have worked to get to 2000 lines.

How long on average does it take to type 30 min of dictation?
nt
I also average about you make! LOL
It actually gets me out of the house and not stuck in front of the computer all day, too!  Being in front this screen for too many hours causes havock on the mindset, ya know!  I like to print and deliver and see people!  I also like making the $35-50.00, which makes it all worth my while....
how much do editors make on average
Per hour?  I'm struggling so bad with hand and arm pain, I will have to quit typing, I have no choice.  I have no other skills, I am in school right now and the pain is incredible.  Please tell me how much you get paid per hour, if it is worth my while to switch or just take on a second job having nothing to do with MT and type less.  If it is under 15 an hour, I cannot afford it, thanks in advance.

I'd figure out an average I make per hour, and charge that. -nm
x
I would agree with you. That is my average. (nm)
s
Also agree, but average 15-20 minutes an hour...nm
nm
As stated below, I agree. Overall weekly average is approx. 600 lph sm
Now, granted there are days I can do over 1200 lines an hour, but overall within the week you have those dictations that take a little more time.

I have made more money on this platform than any other. Absolutely love it!

I don't make a lot as I type slow (40-60 wpm)- sm
and get distracted easy. I wlll make about $19K this year. I work FT house but in reality should be able to get it all done in about 6 hours each day if I was dedicated. I get .08 and .07 on 2 accounts, .13 on another (mine), and edit for .03. I try to work mostly on the .08 accounts of course (have 2 of those). I used to get .09 working somewhere else but that was w/o spaces so know I make more at .08 plus I prefer this IC job over that one though they are good people at the one I don't work for anymore. I have the same docs now which I prefer, and I have more wiggle room with when my work is due as well. ---So one of my goals for this year is see if I can put the pedal to the metal and get my income up to $24 to 25K next year. Luckily this is a second income for us but we have a lot of bills and it is needed.
I type the report and then a make a notation about

dictator said delete it.  I still typed the report and per my company we get paid for it.   There are occasionally times when the dictator states during the report to go back and change and they may almost completely redictate the report so there will be lines typed and deleted that you will not get paid for.

How much do you make hourly if you relisten. What type of perfection are you looking for?
I mean I listen very carefully as I go along and address issues as I go. If I took the time to relisten, I would make half of what I make right now and I can't afford that as a production transcriber.  Seriously if you relisten, what is your hourly wage to produce a report considering all things.
Yes. You have to type til your fingers are smokin' to be able to make any money. nm
:+
Make sure you have selected Medical as your speller type.
Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammer. Select Medical from the drop down list under speller type (right side).
I loved 5.1 with Smart Type and miss it, but I make more now sm
I don't think it is the platform (Extext) or the work (now acute, but 5.1 time was with clinic), I think it is me being better able to do the job and a more steady flow of work.
I agree with you. When you look at this type
becomes so insignificant doesn't it??????????
3-1/2 years experience, type cardio only on clinic account, and make 9 cpl nm
nm
I agree. It is not how fast you can type, rather
whether what you type is accurate or not. It is better to be slower and better than faster and typing gobbledygook.
I agree with what you said, and I type 150 accurate wpm.....sm

When I take the occasional typing tests that measure how fast you type without worrying about errors then I type closer to 200 wpm.

Fast typing doesn't always mean sloopy work...any more than a slow typist doesn't mean they're doing a quality job.

I agree with you - but, I was once of the mentality that I could type sm
and therefore could do this job. I was lucky - I had a company willing to train me. When I look back, I still don't know how I made it through the first year, but I am so glad I stuck with it. I'm probably a "fluke" in this business with no training whatsoever before I started, but I was determined to work at home, and here I am.
I agree with you. I'm supposed to type "verbatim" , but (s/m)
if I did that, it would make the docs look like idiots. They repeat themselves, contradict themselves, etc. One doc always puts his adjectives at the end of each sentence. YOU get to decide where they would be most useful! Some are ESL docs who TRY, but don't always use the right word. If I type verbatim, and they read and sign the report, they don't continue to polish up their English skills, and the reader of the report (an attorney, perhaps?) can't figure out what the heck the doc is trying to say. I think all the anal 'powers-that-be' who get on our case for cleaning up grammar, punctuation, etc. (and NO, NOT changing the meaning of a report!) should find themselves something more useful to do with their time.
how long, on average, average a knee replacement would one be on Oxycontin?(sm)
My DH recently had knee replacement surgery a month and a half ago.  The doctor has been prescribing oxycontin 30 mg this entire time.  Husband has been trying to wean off of it and is down to 10 mg.  He asked the doctor if he could come off it completely and the doc said to "just keep taking it."  His next visit is in two months.  With all the discussion lately about pain medication addiction, is it normal to be on this medication for this long and for the doctor to say "just keep taking it?"  How long should one be on this med?
I agree, but where can I make what I do at MT
I see no way out of it, but do agree with you that depression and anxiety are rampant in transcription circles. Thanks for a wonderful post.  At least we are not alone here.
Agree, you can make much more
I average $20-25 per hour at home (left a $12 in house job to work at home), and this is at only 8 cpl.  I don't think you have to worry about making less than $9 per hour.
For once I agree with you. OP needs to make self
xx
Make sure everything you agree to
is in clearly defined writing as well!!
same way in nursing - men in nursing make more on average than women in nursing and quickly
move into management. Just what we needed.
I agree. I make 8 cpl and get $29.00/hour
you have to stay in one place long enuf to get used to the dictators, then you can make good money wiht them
I agree with you, and this is why we don't make more money too sm
Seems like, if you don't have a magic wand dangling between your legs, you don't count for much. This is still the 21st Century...kinda sad isn't it?
Have to agree. Kids do make working at home "different" (sm)

Mine are grown, but the grandchildren occasionally are over.  The oldest one will play his Gameboy or some cube thing all day and only occasionally ask to be fed.  However, when the youngest one can't go do daycare for some reason my world is turned upside down.  The granddaughter has it in her head that when I ask her to be quiet it means come over to my desk and whisper.  All in all, it isn't too often that I have children in my house when I work.  My hat is off to those of you who do it on a regular basis, you are queens of organizational/concentration skills.

Agree! Hard to make it as single person, let alone a family. nm

I agree. The silly phone calls just make the worries worse, if
nm
RE: I totally agree!! I work at home can came make upwards or $25+ per hour (sm)
Where outside of my home could I make that money, not have to pay gas, buy extra clothes, etc.  I am very happy right where I'm at.
I agree. Bean-counters desperately wanting to believe the exaggerated claims for SR make them easy
x
don't type double spaces. Type single. Then no one will be cheated.
x
I can type with wine, can't type with coffee, though...too jittery.
x
That is, type the code above before and after what you want bolded in the text-to-type box. nm
nm
For me it isn't an account type but a dictator type ...
and that would be oriental. An oriental dictator (hahaha, that kind of sounds funny...hahaha) is the most challenging for me.
No, you don't type directly into ES. You type in Word -
or whatever their platform is, just like you did with your tapes.

Then you do your line count in Word or the platform.
You should type them. I usually type them in parentheses following the diagnosis.
x
remind me, type what they say, type what they say, type....
"He indicated that at the beginning of the year he complained of health problems recently but has gotten better."  C'mon doc, which one is it?????
You spending 3K in gasoline to make 4K plus all that time on the road? That doesn't make sense Pat

Shorthand users: Is there a way to type a word, use a slash and then type another word..sm

immediately following the slash and have it expand.  For example if I needed to transcribe mass/sebaceous cyst, is there a way to use my expanded sebaceous cyst without having to back space after I type the slash mark?  TIA

How nice that the world revolves around what you make and no one else could possibly make more. sm

Marla in So. California pays 11 cpl for a 55 ccl, Oracle pays 9-1/2 cpl, MDI-MD 11 cpl, JLG 10 cpl for gross line, etc.

Of course, these are rates negotiated and paid to qualified MTs.

Agree, agree, agree! Just listen to Benny Hinn..

he speaks perfect English, especially when asking for money!  Also, in my opinion, blanks should be left in the doc's dictation if not able to be transcribed, maybe then they will know that are NOT understood.  With QA fixing them, what need is there for them to care if we understand them or not?

When I see mistakes I repeatedly make, I make a quickcorrect for it (sm)
for example if I type we plant o instead of "plan to" I have a quick corrct so that if I type plant o, it replaces it with plan to, etc. It is hard - I was with the same company for 8 years. I do not work for anyone with an accuracy requirement though.
average...
I  never heard double - I've been doing this almost 30 years and even back when the dictators were educated and spoke intelligently, it was not possible to do 1 min of dictation in 2 minutes.  I was always told the ratio was  3 or 4:1.  With some of these inarticulate dictators, and not just the ESL, it is probably more like 5 o 6:1 on my primary account.
on average....

How many reports do you type per day, lets say average being 5 min. per report or acute care hospital, which is what I do, and how many average do you send to QA?

Per day I do on average about 35 reports, average 3 QA'd reports, rarely get one day without sending at least one, and on a really bad day I send around 6 to QA.  This is usually the worst of the worst, bad phone lines, very hurried/slurring/mumbling dictators, or the thick ESLs, and even listening to twice.

I would say above the average.
Would definitely depend on the accounts and hours worked each day.   But 0.3 cpl would be a safe average.
