The Holloway tragedy.
I so admire Beth Holloway Twitty.  I could not get on the politcal board.  My problem is this; in the area in which I live, a little black girl was taken into the ER, and although she has had very little press, the docs already said she was dead for 14 hours at least, she has not gotten one bit of press.  What is wrong with this country when a white girl, (obviously upper-middle class) is missing and it gets such press, and a little black girl goes into the ER, already 14 hours dead at least and not one bit of press?  By the way, I am white and prejudiced but I am beginning to see why black people have an attitude.
no, tragedy is NOT funny
-- unfortunately some people don't comprehend this. This kind of so-called humor is bad taste.
oh well then? You are asking for a tragedy and don't say your dogs would never do that,,,
ANY dog can bite and a dog that doesn't know it's place in the pack family, is a tragedy waiting to happen.
I wouldn't wish this tragedy on anyone, ever, but...

I do not admire the Amish in general.  I did, when I thought of them in the stereotypical way that many people do.  Then I learned about how they treat the women in their society when I watched a story on Dateline recently (and read some other things):

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6839718/from/RL.5

And how they treat their animals and have so many puppy mills:

http://www.newhousenews.com/archive/murray112805.html (just go to Goggle and type in Amish puppy mills).

Now I don't think of them as any better or worse than the rest of our society, religious or otherwise.  I feel sorry for the women in their closed, oppressive (only to women, of course), patriarchal society, and I wonder if theirs is a "culture" or a cult.

I feel so bad for those little girls that were shot, and maybe it's not appropriate for me to be saying this now, with the recent events, but I hate to see people thinking of the Amish as so wonderful...

Minnesota tragedy.....

Perhaps this doesn't belong on any board here, but I felt I just needed to say something about the very tragic state of medical transcription.  I have been an MT for over 40 years, most of which occurred in the clinical setting, but I also worked for 4 years at a very large MTSO.

No one in our wonderful profession is going to get anything changed until en masse.  If we don't stick up for ourselves and that means going to governmental officials (those people get sick too and do have medical records!), the media and other well-known sources where the message could potentially be heard world-wide, then we have only ourselves to blame.  I know this is a huge undertaking but if we don't like it (and I hear that many don't) then we have to impact it.  I would, for one, feel so much better telling my children and grandchildren that I had taken part in a grassroots movement to try and change/impact the manner in which a patient's medical visits were documented rather than leaving millions (ha, ha!) for them to use on fancy cars, trips, etc.

We only have today---some people who died on the bridge or drowned here in Minneapolis last evening will never again get a chance to make any impact ever again!

Have a great day.......

Going through my own tragedy, husband with Marfan's sm
He had just come home after 7 weeks in hospital from, aortic dissection. We were watching TV and the news came on about it. That was a really horrible time.

Let them be alive and let them know help is on the way.
You never met a person who is working at a miserable job until you have met a coal miner. I grew up in a coal mining town with company houses, a company store, the "circle" (where the company bosses lived in their McMansions). These men came home and simply sat there, staring into space. Some drank too much beer, many actually. They made good money but I really do not think they felt well after 10 years in those mines as they never did anything but sleep and work and just sit there at the kitchen table or where ever their favorite place to sit was. I thought that they probably did not feel very well. Of course, this was back in the 1960s and 1970s. Maybe things have changed. Working conditions were very bad. I felt sorry for these men. They rarely talked much at all. Most seemed to end up with black lung.
Moderator still alive?

Finding Your Friend Alive

It is very possible your friend is still alive, as they are still finding people alive every day and if he is still in the area, unfortunately there is not much in the way of any phones working in these hard hit areas, so it wouldn't surprise me if he is still alive.  Have you searched all of the Red Cross Shelter lists?  Everyone who is at a shelter has to have their names put on a list and there are new names being added everyday.

Let's keep the misogyny alive! Yeah!
And Eve got us kicked out of the Garden of Eden because she used her "feminine wiles" on Adam and he was older than her but couldn't make his own decisions because she FORCED him to eat the apple. Take it to the religion boards.
The patient lives with her parents, who are both alive and well.
I would hope they'd be alive.
12 FOUND ALIVE - THE MIRACLE DID HAPPEN.

She has to be the dumbest person alive to have stayed
married to an alcoholic and drug user, and to have had children by him. She endangered the lives of those children. She is blind, says she never sees anything bad that the press reports. Maybe that is because they are sheltered and protected from any protesters so they can continue to think they are the king and queen of the world.
Sorry, I think you're all wrong. This is the sexiest man alive...!

I did finish the test
I did finish the test, over the weekend.  Then Monday had my interview.  Then Tuesday was told I got the job if I wanted it.  The next day I called and said I'd take it.  She said great!  I'll have management get with you to arrange delivery of your equipment and everything.  I took the job resigned from my job.  The she called back 15 minutes later and said I couldn't have the position we discussed.  I think its time to get in another line of work possibly.  This one can really ruin your self esteem.
didn't finish
I was SO tired last night, tried staying up to watch the entire episode, but couldn't. I know Dr. Jones was in labor and her husband was in surgery from an MVA, but fell asleep after that. Can anybody tell me what happened??!!
To finish the above,,,,,"MONEY"

faux finish
Check out Tatouage on HSN.com or ebay - these are rub-on transfers of different scenes that can be painted over when the time comes. Go on very smooth and look like paint. They are very detailed and look so real, but can be wiped off when necessary without damage. They are great and take a lot less time than painting.
Finish the course. I think there will be a shortage sm
in the future of all medical personnel from MT to MD. Looking at the whole picture, those of us from the baby boomer age are pushing 50 and as families, many of us had 3 or fewer children or none at all. So, in my opinion, that leaves a much smaller volume medical personnel to care for the aging in the future. So, finish that course so you can type my reports when I need them.
Definitely finish with blanks. nm

No way will she finish that course in four months.
Especially with all those kids, she probably won't even finish it at all. It's obvious she's not going to listen to anything you say, so she'll have to learn the hard way.

(If you want to be mean, wait about four months and then ask her for a loan, since she's rolling in the dough!)
in the old days, most animals raised for consumption at least got a life while they were alive.
not anymore.

Not only are they treated with unbelieveable barbarity, the producers are destroying irreplaceable GOVERNMENT (meaning, it's OURS) owned forests and range for feed - more and more each year...not to mention the absolute filth rampant in the industry - they have them so crowded and unclean that it's a wonder MORE e.coli and other diseases aren't pandemic.

Go visit a slaughter house - any slaughter house. Yep, it's not that hard to give up meat. It is totally unnecessary in anybody's diet.

I have to admit though, when the neighbors are barbecuing a slab of pork, my mouth waters and my brain goes into DESIRE!!!
Yes, it eats the brain and body alive trying to get back to your lines that you did on the old
platforms. After while you just disintegrate in a little heap.

guess she is alive and kicking, quite hard at that! how is it we follow her books so religiously??
she designs MT pretty much as it is today, then blows it off as not cost-effective etc etc?
Will be a nurse-practitioner...but I'll keep my MTSO as long as it stays alive...

And we were supposed to finish school and work FT (sm)

after being offered a job making $25/hr. with full benefits and supposedly a future?  And now we're supposed to go back to school at 50 y/o because of this govt?  Are you with the illuminati or what?

This happens to be 2006.  There are many, many people who did not finish school because they were offered jobs that paid quite well.  Unfortunately, those jobs are now being given to illegals, etc., remember "the jobs that Americans won't do?"

I won't be going back to school, I made enough money.

Do you relisten to your entire reports after you finish each one or how do you
edit your work before you send it in.  Do you reread each one.  Sometimes I think you can miss a word if you dont but not sure how to edit before sending without making minimum wage.
I leave a blank and finish the report. - (sm)
Sometimes (if I'm lucky), the doctor will say the same word again later in the report, only clearer.

Even if they don't say the word again, often once I've finished the whole report and am proofreading, if I listen to the word a while later, I can then understand it.

The post below that talks about reading the sentence out loud in that accent is also a good idea that sometimes works for me, too.

If the sentence is a fairly common one you might encounter in other similar reports (like in a physical exam, or a hernia operation, etc.), sometimes finding a few samples of those types of reports online can provide an answer, even if it's a different doctor.

If you have the capability to put that report on 'hold', and go on to the next one, that's also helpful, because you might get the same word again in the next report (especially if it's the same doctor), and you might be able to hear it, then. Even if you don't, setting it aside for a while and then going back to re-listen to it is often the most effective way to unravel some of the 'mystery-words'.
Wall painting faux finish techniques sm
Has anyone ever done their walls in a faux finish technique?  I have a rather large room inhabited by my husband and the 2 dogs in the evening while I work, a big screen t.v., a beige fireplace, beige and hunter green wood look vinyl tile on the floor and hunter green furniture. One wall is paneled in a pecan paneling as it couldn't be done any other way. This room was an add on to the house. Right now the walls are a gray color but am looking to paint it something different, something that might not show the splotches caused by the dogs shaking their wet fur on occasion and fingerprints around the switches.  I found the softly aged walls technique on the HGTV web site were you use 2 colors and a divided roller and divided pan. I kind of like the look and it looks fairly easy for me to do.  Anyone have any ideas?
Encouragement for hard times - are you going to finish strong? sm
