I feel bad for the people in Colorado and Wyoming who had so much wind and cold

weather.  This would be worse than a hurricane because if your roof blows off, you are in severe sub-0 temperatures with blowing snow.  No way to get any kind of help, and no way to stay warm.

Cold in Colorado! ...
Burr is right!  I'm in northern/central Colorado, I think it is about 5 degree now with light snow ... but the wind is dying down.  Horrible hurricane type winds the last few days.  Thanks for mentioning us Coloradans!!  :)
Old people who are cold?

I'm not cold-hearted. I expect people to
take care of themselves, though.

I hate it that you had such a financial struggle growing up.

If you would have paid any attention whatsoever to my post, you would have read that I believe there should be various types of assistance for people who have not provided well enough for themselves. That does not excuse them from reporting income appropriately, though.

I've done without money. I've been in poverty and even without a roof over my head at one point in my younger years and I was raised in a home of plenty. I know exactly how it feels. I also know that I had to learn what my parents taught me was true -- no one is responsible for your welfare but yourself. That includes the present and the future.

No, I don't believe the government is without fault. However, does that make it right for any person to cheat against the people? No.

What a sad point of view: It is okay for us to cheat each other. I thought the Golden Rule was do unto others as you would have them do unto you; not, do unto others as they do unto you...?

I didn't say anything about the President or oil or Bin Laden's family. You will always find someone who is unjustly tipping the scales. Did you know that being dishonest like that is not only a sin but an abomination?

If your husband is an account, good for him. He should be able to fill you in on legalities of not reporting income.

I don't want to fight or argue with you, Mter. You have your point of view and I have mine.

Fortunately, I don't have to worry about these scenarios. I do devote a good deal of time and money to helping those without means, by whatever path they have come to that situation. I'm not cold-hearted but I am firm in the belief that our first obligation is not to be poor. We must TAKE control of our lives because control will never be GIVEN to us; it will always be handled by the strongest around us - so it should be ourselves.

Enjoy your weekend. Unfortunately, I will be working more than I had planned.
I feel people who feel like this post
needs to a) either be a stay at home mother and not work or b) realize that she is no queen bee and I could care less about a degree. What company out here that you know of compensates for having a degree? Means nothing to them. Your working and being there when they assign/need/require/whatever is what you should do IF YOU WANT A JOB in this field, otherwise get out and do something else or become that babysitter.
My hands get cold, and typing with cold muscles is like (sm)
running or other exercise when not warmed up. I wear thin, warm gloves with the fingertips cut out to keep my hands & knuckles warm. For muscle pains in the shoulders, neck, biceps, etc, try Flexall cream - I find it to be VERY effective. Also try slight changes in chair height, keyboard height and angle, and monitor height. I found if I enlarge the print on my screen, it keeps me from hunching forward to try to read it. (CTL + scroll up or down on mouse wheel to make print bigger or smaller. It will not affect the size of the finished product.) Frequent "mini-breaks" to do other chores: filing etc. if in an office, quick household task if working at home, also helps relieve repetitive stress. A few months ago I thought my typing days were numbered due to various pains & arthritis; now I can work pain-free for up to 11 hours in a day. Good luck! :)
Wyoming
My friend moved to Lander Wyoming and loves it there, her parents moved there, her boyfriend's family moved there and several of her friends all have followed her there, she has been after me to move there too, absolutely loves that area, check it out.
Wow...now I don't feel so bad! People...
always look at me all funny when they know how many animals I have. We had another rat, but she passed away. They are a lot of work though. Does yours stay in the house?
Why do people on here feel the need to be
Maybe, just maybe, there are people who just want to vent after hours of ignorant statements and horrific grammar.
Wondering about wyoming
Does anyone have any information about Wyoming, specifically Cheyenne area or Laramie?  My husband and son love it and thinking about moving there.  Never moved before in my life (except out of my parents house).
Nah, some people just feel the need to show off. sm
Dressing babies like that is expensive! Personally, if I ever get around to having kids, my babies will be in onesies till they outgrow them, and then it's OshKoshB'Gosh overalls after that, lol.
I think that when people feel the need to exalt themselves
Just my opinion. Lifting yourself up to others only makes you look prideful and haughty. If you are wonderful at everything, you don't HAVE to tell people, they will KNOW without you saying a word.
what some people have to do to feel good about themselves

"What do you all do when you have to type an expletive?  I am working on an account where this comes up often.  I refuse to type the actual expletive so I usually just put (expletive) and go on.  No one has ever said anything, but I was curious as to what everyone else does."

That was my ORIGINAL POST.  I wanted to know what any other MT in the field did regarding expletives.  I didn't ask you to judge my character.  I didn't need anyone telling me to "put my big girl panties on."  All I was looking for was for you all to tell me what you did in that situation.  I guess it makes you feel good to pound on a person rather than address the inital question - if that's what you need to do, then so be it.  I am not new to the field.  Been an MT for over 10 years and have never typed an expletive, though it hasn't come up often.  Found this board and am mostly a lurker and thought I would finally run it by some others.  Should have just kept it to myself.  No wonder I like being an MT - you don't have to deal with other people very often.

Go ahead and feed the piranhas if that's what gets you through your day.

There are a few posts on the Wyoming board.
Cheyenne was mentioned, too.

All I know about that part of the country are the obvious, that it's gorgeous, sparsely populated, and they don't have a lot of water. I don't think they have a lot of women-folk, either. :o>

I was just hired in Wyoming and starting pay
for 3 years experience is $14 an hour. I was offered a job in radiology for d$13 an hour. You are severely underpaid.
It is going to be very interesting to see how you people feel once your office is closed and you are
moved into a regional office on DQS and find that there are tons of other MTs on the accounts you always had. It is coming for everyone so you might be singing another song as time goes on. Enjoy it while you can. Time are changing.
I feel for them but more so for the people on the MS Gulf Coast who are still in tents sm
its cold here now (27 degrees this a.m.) and some people are STILL sleeping in tents behind the truck stops. :(
I think people with higher IQs actually frequently feel insecure,
and people who razz them or put them down. It's not hard to get a complex about something that personal when people get down on you for something you can't help, and had nothing to do with creating. God-given gift. And then when people FLAME you for it, it hurts. And you go back into "turtle" mode and get a job as a Transcriptionist because machines don't bite.
I would feel like people would think I was an infertile woman turning my cat into a baby.

hey, psychic is in your mind and your posts. i'm an mt. i just feel when people ramble about th
they usually have tried to relax and don't realize how crazy they sound. no i don't have a clue. i am reading between your lines which aren't making sense. i pretend nothing. magic 8 balls and psychic is your area of "expertise", not mine.
Sounds like exactly how I feel. MQ has a tremendous amount of unhappy people and could care less.

People expect the groomer to do anal glands. They feel that is part of what they are paying for.

I usually don't get involved in these threads, but I'll go ahead and give it a try for once:

You're trying to battle the Information Revolution, immediate business profiteering, AND the need to provide needed medical services in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

It's NOT going to work any more than denying the Industrial Revolution (or the Agricultural or Iron Ages) did for those who tried then, and yes, plenty did--long dead now, names not recorded.

Sorry, but best advice is accept inevitable change and invest your time and energy in changing with it. These are fascinating and exciting times. Enjoy!
I hear ya on that one!! I know that if I ever wind up in this hospital
I will get a copy of my medical records and sue the pants off of the hospital for incompetency in care and it will fall back on the outsource transcription company because of their mistakes. I know I can sue the doctor individually, but he didn't make the mistakes that could have killed me - the transcription service would be making the mistakes!! $$$

Tips for getting a second wind on third shift
I work a split shift, and the second part goes to 2 a.m.  At about 11 p.m. or midnight, I hit the wall and I find that coffee or cola no longer works so well.  I was wondering if anyone could please share some tips to stay alert.  I need to learn how to get a second wind, but I also don't want to take so long a break that I am too tired to get back to work again... at that hour of the morning (after midnight), that would be really bad.  2 a.m. can be done, I just need and would so appreciate tips.  Thanks for your help.  Until then, I am going now to make coffee, though I am not sure how much that and the sugar in it will help right now!. Thanks again for your input.
Havre, Montana, right now 17 below 0, wind chill is 37 below 0.
Now that is a bit nippy.

Colorado
I grew up in Southern Colorado.  Our family just visited Denver.  I have a friend who lives in the suburbs of Denver.  All I can tell you is Colorado is beautiful, but be prepared for a much higher cost of living.  I don't know where in the south you live, but chances are the cost of liviing is less than in Colo.  We have a 200k mortage (In NE Oklahoma).  My friends in Colo have a home that is the same square footage and pretty comparable to our home and their mortage is in the low 300's!  I know we would not be able to afford a nice home in Colorado and still have all the other extras we have now.  Also, be prepared for some bad winters.  It snows a bunch in Colorado and it is not fun to get around in!  Other than that, Denver (or the suburbs) offers a lot in the way of shopping, entertainment, etc., not to mention the beautiful scenery.  Good luck with you decision!
Hot in Colorado
107 degrees today. Cows starting to give instant milk. Jack rabbits are carrying canteens. It's not any better up north either. Denver up into the 100s also. Snowmen are disappearing in great numbers. Arkansas River is rising because of them.
REALLY REALLY REALLY HOT IN COLORADO!!!
Had to go to the TOP of the Poudre Canyon to go camping and it was still REALLY HOT!
in colorado?

Any Colorado MTs on here? (sm)

DH and I are considering moving to Colorado.  Anything you can tell me about how you like it, or not, the people, the climate, attitudes , would be most helpful! I would like to talk with MTs particularly who are working from home, as I do.  Thanks so much!!

P.S.  There is not much activity on the states board, as I went there for info first.

Colorado sm

Boulder is a great choice.  I would be happy to answer any questions.   E-mail if you would like.

Colorado MTs
Where are you located at in Colorado?
2.46/gal in Colorado!
sheesh...I wish it could go down to under $2/gal..that would be awesome!!
Snow in Colorado
It snows more up north than it does out on the southeastern plains near Pueblo. I live there. We really need snow and some moisture. It's been like that for 5 or more years.
Hi, I am from Colorado Springs. sm
I prefer the Denver area, even though I am from the Springs. The Springs is definitely extreme conservative (Bush territory). Very family oriented community. Cost of living is reasonable compared to other areas. The climate is dry and not too cold, despite what most think because it snows. We get sunshine 80% of the year. I work at home as an MT, and did very well income-wise working at one of the local hospitals. I am employed IC now, but still do well. I am not crazy about the Pueblo area. Where are you interested in living?
Colorado MT jobs
Hi - send me your e-mail. Put Denver Medical transcription jobs in Google and you will find a few. Some are a little old, but they may still need people.
Question for Colorado MTs

I'm in a little town called Strasburg.  I'm about 35 to 40 miles away from Denver, which is why I would consider the commute, especially if it was required just to get my foot in the door.  Lots of people in our little town make that commute all the time, so it's not uncommon, but it's not something I'd necessarily be crazy about!

Thank you all for the kind suggestions.  They're very much appreciated!

Question for Colorado MTs
Thank you for your reply, but I have done that. Of the ones I've looked at, I've never found openings for MTs, and when I've called, which is a long-distance call for me, I've often been told that they have a service who does their transcription. I posted this question here hoping for a reply from someone with first-hand knowledge of a hospital that did hire MTs rather than using a service.
Colorado Springs
It is a great place to live!!! Colorado Springs is about 60 miles South of Denver but we go to Denver every once in a while. I was born in Boulder (Northwest of Denver). The snow may last longer than a day if it is a decent storm, but for the most part it is gone pretty quickly! The air is fresh and clean and crisp. The autumn leaves right now are just beautiful. I moved here from San Diego and couldn't be happier!! If you have any specific questions, you could e-mail me, but I wish you well and say go for it!
Any MTs in the Colorado area?

My husband has a possible job opportunity in the northern Colorado area.  I am just wondering if anyone on this board is out in that area?  I am wondering what the average pricing is on housing, apartments, etc.  Anything really fun to do out there?  This would be in the Fort Collins area.   Also, what is the usual temperature in the summer and winter, snow fall, etc.

I have found most of this information on-line, but I would much prefer to hear from someone who lives around this area.  I would take a personal view over a computer anyday!  We live in Florida now, so this would be a HUGE move for our family!

Thanks for any info.

I love Colorado
Is there anything to do? You could spend a lifetime in Colorado and never run out of things to do, that is if you like the outdoors. I live east of Monument just north of Colorado Springs but at a higher altitude than Fort Collins, so it is warmer in Fort Collins in the summer but we get more snow in the winter. Summers get into the high 90s for a high. Winters get a fair amount of snow but are very sunny (and lovely). No dreary winters here! We visited Fort Collins many times when our son attended CSU for 5 years. It would be my second choice of cities to live in throughout Colorado. Don't know about housing prices, but surely not as bad as the Springs where prices are going out of sight. Fort Collins is always in the top 10 cities for retirees because of many factors--reasonable housing, climate, recreation, jobs, etc. I personally would love to live in a big university town like Fort Collins because there is always something going on. Make your first purchase on moving here a pair of good hiking shoes. You will never look back to Florida. The mountains are awesome!
Is there a reason you picked Colorado or was it

Colorado Hospital Jobs
Thank you, MT mom of 3. I'm afraid you're probably right because it's what I've found for the most part. I actually applied at a local service recently and discovered they had some of the hospital transcription, but I ended up not taking the job because they were only going to pay me 0.03 per line for some type of work to do with VR. I don't know the full details, but it seemed as though I'd be editing, and it just didn't sound all that great to me.
once I went to a huge outdoor Colorado BBQ..

Does anyone live in the Denver, Colorado, area? sm

I may possibly be moving there.  What can you tell me about it?  The school systems do not matter as we no longer have children at home.  What areas are nice to live in?  I read that when it snows it usually melts the same day....is that true?

Any information from someone who lives there or has lived there would be much appreciated.

TIA

Definitely Colorado. Wonderful summers and beautiful winters!
nm,
if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.

As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.
