I guess it all depends on what part of the country you live.

I could not live on $2000 a month.  Our house payment is more than that, not including electric, cable, car, etc.  One day we will retire down south!!

What part of the country do you live?
That is really very, very low. The hospitals in California pay $17 to $25 an hour.
I agree... it depends on where in the country you live....
I usually figure what they are paying per person for dinner and then give that as a gift times the number of people in my family who are attending.  I also think it depends on how well you know the person.   A gift should be a personal decision.  The bride and groom should have invited you b/c they want you there not b/c of the gift they are expecting from you.
Depends on where you live I guess. sm

My cats have been outdoor cats all of their lives.  One is 13 and the other is 10.  Where we live, they sleep in the street.  They're both neutered and up-to-date on shots.  They don't wander too far from home anymore as they get older.

We moved here from a farm on a dead end road and I tried to make them stay indoors at first, but they wouldn't have any part of it.

Like I said, it depends.

Everyone in our tiny neighborhood knows them by name and dogs fear them. :)

(They're 15 lbs. each).

Guess it depends where you live. sm
Clerk didn't care if I would lose day(s) pay and also said I wouldn't get the $50 a day reimbursement as I was self-employed and had to pay myself.
No, I guess it depends on where you live (sm)
Like I said above, I have heard it used in a derogatory way many times. I am definitely not the prejudiced one. Anyone can look at the term "ebonics" and see where the root word comes from.
I guess it depends where you live...
Some employers require or "prefer" certification, but I don't know whether that earns you any extra money or not. Most do not require certification, at least where I live, and do not come out and offer extra pay to be certified or encourage you to be certified. My opinion is that it is a waste of your time and money.
I guess it depends where you live. Grocery
I don't know of anyone who shops at Walmart for groceries.  Not one.  No way I'd buy perishable stuff from Walmart.  I was desperate one night a few years ago and bought milk at Walmart and BLECH!  It wasn't past the expiration date but it tasted like it was nearing expiration and the coolers were lukewarm.
I live out in the country and

I initially could only have satellite out here in BFE.  It cost me 60 bucks a month for mediocre service.  It was faster than dial-up but still not very fast.  You have to deal with the weather.  I went through Hughesnet and they have a broadband fair access thing where they only give you x amount of broadband per 24 hours and if you exceed that, your internet is so slow you might as well be on dial up and that lasts for 24 hours until your account rejuvinates itself.  It was such crap.

We recently got AT&T out here.  We get local phone, unlimited long distance, and DSL internet including wireless throughout the house for like 65 bucks a month.  Way faster than Hughes.net ever was even on a sun shiny day with no clouds in the sky.

We literally saved ourselves 50 bucks a month going through AT&T for our phone and internet services.

What part of the country are you in?

I don't know what part of the country...
you live in, but around here you can hardly get into a restaurant, the malls are FULL of people so that it's hard to park, and the BIG trucks and SUV's just keep roaring past me.  Outsourcing has been going on for 30+ years... People adjust their careers, oro something else pops up that out does somebody else's idea.  Nothing stays the same, you gotta change with the times.  Many outsourced jobs are low skill jobs that Americans want to be paid big money to do... Well guess what, it isn't going to happen.  So get yourself another career.  I've had THREE of them myself.  I've been a nurse, a commercial lines insurance rater (that all went computerized), and now I'm an MT.  What good does it do to sit here in cyber space moaning and groaning about something that's been going on for decades and isn't going to stop no matter how much you complain.
What part of the country...?

if you do not mind my asking.  I live in an expensive part of the country myself on the west coast.

I was asked to find comparable rates.

Thanks again.

What part of the country
Just wondering.
It depends on the country.
I worked for Club Med for a few years in the 80s and worked closely with the European-born French, Spanish/Mexican and Germans. The Spanish people are truly grateful when you merely attempt their language. The Germans are pretty helpful if you make a mistake but they all know English as it is required in school. The French, however, are very strict. I found this when I worked with the Club Med administration in the Caribbean, Mexico, and especially in Paris. I took four years of French in high school, know French diction pretty well, but was still corrected with Every mistake I made, and several times (in all countries) was told to not even try if I couldn't speak it perfectly. That is my experience, and I'm allowed my opinion as it has been proven in many countries. My point about the Indian MDs is that they were not trained here, or they would have been corrected in their use of some English. Some of it can also be legally misinterpreted. There was actually a "medical" school in St. Lucia in the Caribbean (next to Club Med). Many Americans attended it. They couldn't get into the mainland-based medical schools. It also used to be hard for foreign-trained doctors to practice here. My point was that it's a shame that we have to suffer with these doctors, not just us but those poor patients.
it really depends on where in the country you are located
if you are in NYC or Long Island, the amount is never less than $100. Further north of NY can go about $50. If it's a close relative you go higher in $$.
I'm not sure of anywhere else.
I live in a quiet country neighborhood sm
but it is 6 a.m. and the birdies have started waking up. So loud!!
i live way out in the country of GA, dont have dialup but
was lucky to have ATT serve this area. You must be moving way out if you cant get cable internet or DSL!!! Good luck Hon!!!

CPL definitely depends on where you live
I live in Arkansas and the most you get here for locals is 10 cents if you are lucky.  The rate here is usually between 7-10 cents and that is with printing, pickup and delivery.  There are not many MTs around here but these docs here are tightwads.
depends on where you live
Why would u drive 50 minutes for a pt job though? Can't they email it to you?
Depends on where you live
Do you have to pick up and deliver? Print reports? There is time and $$ involved there.

If you receive files electronically and deliver electronically, then I would guess 13 cents per 65 character line is reasonable. More is always nice. Also depends on how badly you want the job.

Even if you pick up and deliver, depends on how many miles you have to drive, but still 13 seems like a nice mid range. You don't want to get piggy and ask 15 or cut yourself off and ask for 10 cpl....
I live in Asheville, NC part of the sm
smoky mountains. Where do you live in TN? Beautiful weather today!
depends on what part of the job

you dont qualify for but feel you can perform.  Whatever it is, I would not say anything negative about myself but instead point out a generality and how you have accomplished that.

For example, I once applied for a job that listed a certain platform that I had never used but the employer used.  So, I listed the platforms that I am familiar with and said that I feel confident that I could soon become proficient on any platform.

Of course, I had to mean it and really felt I could do the job.  I would not lie about ANY qualification because you will soon be found out.

BTW, I was offered the job but turned it down.

Depends on which part of the

maybe it depends on the part of
the state, but in galveston county, we were really starting to get a lot of Indian and Pakistani, so on. The really worst of the lot was homegrown from up north. go figure. He never used any verbs "patient 54 whitemaledosen'tsmokedrinkcut lefthandearlier todaytetanustoxoidER". Talk about a pain and heard his writing was worse. One breath to dictate the whole op note or H&P!
I guess it really depends on how much you
enjoy the "freedom" you have and how much you enjoy the job you do right now. I know from experience that sometimes it's better to take less money and be happy in your job than to take more and not be happy. It's a tough decision and I wish the best to you.
I guess it depends. Do you also do
Are you using ICs or hiring as employee status? That makes a difference, too. If IC, the turnover rate can be high with ICs (at least in my experience, even w/ good line rate/decent dictators) so it's quite literally a neverending process for some MTSOs.

Another factor is my first question, do you do some of the work yourself? It's really dependent on your personal goals. Do you want to free up your time to work or are you wanting to add more clients and build up your business? If the former, does having the help afford you the extra time necessary to do QA functions? If the latter, are you able to charge a high enough line rate to bear paying an MT and a QA person a decent rate and still earn enough of a profit to operate? How many ICs do you typically have on QA, how long, and how many QA people would you realistically need to handle the workload? I think those are all legitimate questions to ask yourself.

FWIW, I tried doing QA myself at one time and it was not a winning formula. My theory was pay the MT more of the line rate to attract quality help and they won't be on QA for long, but it didn't play out that way. I had a high turnover for various reasons, ICs going AWOL, not meeting TAT, too many errors, etc., and even with the really good MTs, you run the risk of losing them to bigger services that can pay more and/or offer benefits, or they simply find their own accounts. I was putting in very long hours in order to handle QA plus get my transcription done. It wasn't worth it for me, time wise or financially, so I gave it up. Again, it depends on your situation, your ultimate goal, and if you are able to find good reliable help. I just thought I'd share my personal experience with you, too. YMMV, of course!
depends on what you did I guess sm

Sometimes the less said, the better, but of course, only you know what you did and I don't think you should broadcast any personal info on here or the Web. You will have to decide for yourself, if you have the skills, maybe they will give you a chance; maybe they won't think it matters. Only you can decide. I can't give you advice and doubt anyone else on here would either. We're used to everything being confidential, etc., professional people here, at least most of us anyway! Good luck!

It depends on the state. In NC where I live,
you must be legally separated for a year before you can get a divorce. The legal separation is treated like a divorce though, so anything accrued by either party after the separation papers are signed are not considered marital property. I think she may want to obtain a second opinion just to be on the safe side.
depends on what part of the south sm
you retire to. Where I live it is mainly "retiree, tourist" and I think its expensive. I am originally from the Detroit area, been here 24 years. Based on teh wages that folks make here, the housing market is absolutely RIDICULOUS! I can't afford to sell my house and by another even after living here all taht time!
Gee, I guess all the college kids who live in
trailer parks are not worried about being "educated."
Pay depends on where you work, I guess.

I know if I have a midnight deadline, it's 4:00 a.m. my time because I'm on the east coast and my national is out of California.

Good luck with the 3rd shift.  I was thinking of that myself, but my husband has been doing 3rd shift for 7 years and I do first shift and we tell everyone that's why we get along so good.

P.S.  He usually tries to keep his all night routine on the weekends, (his shift is 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.M- Th) but sometimes he'll stay up on Friday morning and go to bed at 11:00, but it messes him up sometimes because his week starts Sundays with a 12 hour third shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.  You'll get used to it.  He loves it.  No alarm clocks. No morning rush.

That depends on your company. You will need to ask your TL about that one, I guess. nm

Depends on your account, I would guess.

Some accounts want a strict SOAP format, so you would disregard the other headings.

I personally work on verbatim accounts so we put in any headings they dictate.

I guess maybe it depends on who you work for...
All I know is my boss is well aware of every single report that I proof every single day. I have specific accounts that are my sole responsibility, so if an error like this drug mistake got through on one of my docs' reports, it would be easy to know who saw it last.
Depends on how part time the part time jobs are.
You can do it. You just have to work out a schedule you can live with.
It depends on whether you are working for someone as an IC or you have your own clients. I live in
Hampton Roads and was told that I would need a one if I was going to solicit my own business.  I was told by the local office where I got my license that I could not send out brochures or advertise in any way until I got it.  I do know of a local company here that requires their ICs to have one as well.  I think it is because he had a problem with an IC who did not report her income to the IRS and he was audited because of this.  I am not sure how this protects him, but he requires all of his ICs to have their own business licenses.
Sorry, this absolutely depends on the county you live in. Going through
She was just told they won't even look at expunging her felony drug conviction until she has a clean record for 10 years. In the meantime, she has had to fess up in a couple of interviews and hope for compassion. She finally got a job she lives but she's always afraid what will happen if she loses it.
I guess that depends if it is a verbatim account...
I think even so I would type feces....
It depends what type of surgery, I guess. sm
Some are very easy and fast money, others are very detailed and long, nothing "normal" about them.

It all depends....Personally, they are my favorite and I specialize in doing only op reports, all specialties.

I guess that depends on how many hours you work. sm
Do you save yourself 2 hours because of your Expander and then quit for the day? Or do you work more hours because your expansions allow you to = more on the paycheck?

I think it depends where you live. My parents threw a huge party sm
for me when I graduated with about 150 people. The gifts weren't in the $100 range but it was 23 years ago. I received over $5000 in gifts and that was used to help buy the things I needed to go away to college such as bed linens, dorm furnishings, etc. The rest was used over the 4 years to subsidize when I needed extra for something. Yes, my parents paid for college, to the tune of $25k per year. They were happy to do it and proud when I graduated with honors and got a good job afterwards.

I'm going to do the same for my 2 kids that my parents did for my sister and I. There is nothing wrong with working hard to give your kids the best in life and nothing wrong with celebrating their milestones. If you don't agree with graduation parties, don't go to them, but if you don't celebrate your kids' milestones and make them special occasions, who will?

Guess it depends on how porous his skin is-- try cold cream maybe? - sm
My kids have done all sorts of stuff, usually the face cleans up except for red in my experience...fades over a week or so. But cold cream is good for make up so maybe it will work, if you don't have any handy maybe a thick moisturizer? Obviously the hands are not an issue since they won't be in the picture, you can always try a liquid make-up if it doesn't come off and if the make up does not look weird. Good luck.....you can always keep him home or arrange for him to do the make-up picture for kids who are sick...they always have a make up picture day...find out when it is and just do it then.
I guess it depends on if it was a long-term affair or a one-nighter sm
Probably would try to make it work because I love him and want my daughter to have her daddy around.
