Editor hourly pay??

After years as an MT, I'm thinking of switching to Editing...Can anyone please tell me what is the standard hourly rate to request for an Editor? BTW I live in the Midwest with a fairly low cost of living. Thank you!

Do you mean hourly as editor or (sm)
strictly QA?  How much experience do you need for either?
Charge him an hourly rate. The current rate is
between $15-21/hr. according to your location. If he had to use an independent secretarial service, he would be charged much more. You can look in the Yellow Pages in your area under Secretarial Service and ask them what they charge, then charge accordingly knowing you can back it up.
My best friend and fellow editor laid off this close to Christmas! sm

For everyone complaining about his or her jobs, it could be worse.  My best friend, who has been in this business for years and years and years, has a work ethic like nothing I have seen before, and is a genuinely caring and gentle soul, was laid off today from her job via a conference call!  To add insult to injury, she is scheduled to have two surgeries next month, which she scheduled for after the holidays to accommodate her employer, even though she can barely see, which she will now be unable to have since they are terminating her health insurance today as well.  They were aware of her scheduled surgery and knew she had been waiting for some time to have it.  We will not even talk about what impact this has upon her family, including her young son, particularly here at Christmas time.  How do you explain no Santa to a young child?

She is always the person helping everyone else, both in her personal life as well as professionally.  I have witnessed her struggles and she always keeps a positive outlook.  I think this will finally "do her in."  Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers, as well as the other THIRTY people who lost their jobs today.

They say that everything we do comes back to you ten-fold.  I hope it happens quickly for this heartless company.

That is a low hourly rate. I would look
elsewhere. That is below normal.
hourly rate
What is the going HOURLY rate for a MT (independent contractor) that would be competitive.
I would take the hourly rate.
a
hourly rate
On the east coast the hourly rate it $14 - $20.
Hourly rate
Not sure my last post worked or not. Hourly rates fluctate around the country, however, in South Florida, the average hourly rate is 12 an hour and then each company/hospital then uses their own benefits/production bonus programs.
hourly MT rate
I did 5 months in-house this year after 10 years at home, and was paid $15.00 here in Joplin MO.

What is your hourly rate? nm
-
wow that's a very high rate for hourly isn't it?
I would assume most don't make that with production? I dont know...

The in house job offered for the hospital was about $14.00 an hour. I feel ripped off!
I think your hourly rate pays for whatever they want you to do.
If they want you to answer phones or sweep the floor or transcribe office notes or give shots or any combination of jobs.

They are paying for your time.

If it were me, I would have a separate hourly rate that
I would charge for things such as that, and keep a total of the time you spend doing this, but definitely bill them!!
Calculate your hourly rate for transcribing

and charge them that, i.e., if you normally do 200 lph at 8 cpl, charge them $16.00 an hour.

That's what I would do.

Nothing. Never take line rate for editing. Take hourly only.
You will never make any money by the line editing if you are doing true editing.
What is the going hourly rate (range) for QA these days. (sm)
nm
I would charge an hourly rate in this situation.
Good luck.
Two of my clients pay me an hourly rate, probably do in most part because (sm)
I have longstanding business relationships with both of them, having worked in their office years ago, so they know my work ethic very well.
That's a typical hourly rate for remote
I personally wouldn't drive that far for it.
hourly rate for non-medical transcription
Hi,

You asked about rates...I charge 125.00 per recorded hour of audio and have no problems getting work.

WOW! Great Hourly Rate For Editors - Over $14 to Start!!!!
I just started working for Soft Script in Calif. as an editor for 0.05 per line.  I found this was not enough money for me (even though I accepted it to get my foot in the door) and talked to the senior vice-president Joann who gave me a great hourly rate.  They must do this for all their editors.  Today QA, tomorrow the rest of the company!!!! Can anyone tell me more good things about Soft Script and your experiences????  I am jazzed and enthused to learn more about this comapny and look forward to hearing from you all.
Personally, I wouldn't touch an hourly rate of under 18.00.

Can anyone tell me the average hourly rate or annual salary for sm

in-house hospital employee around Carmel Valley?   Hourly range or annual salary.

Thank you so very much for any information!!

I think you would have to charge an hourly rate for this type of work.

If you are working at an hourly rate in a hospital setting, then you are
going to be in for a shock when you go to production rates. Most of the in-house positions were farmed out years ago. If you were lucky to secure an in-house position for this long, consider yourself blessed.
They were going pay me an hourly rate, training pay. It doesn't matter, I just tested for two ot
and I did pretty well.  I should get a couple of offers in the next couple of days, hopefully -- I don't want to be overly confident because if I learned anything out of all this it is don't count your chickens before they hatch and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Proof positive that an hourly rate would eliminate those types of situations.

Is $15 an hour a good hourly rate for an in-house office position?

A friend of mine works there and....

She really loves it! She has been there since August.  Her pay has been really great. I am hoping I will get a chance there as well.

Good Luck to you

An MT friend does. She's an employee, works 6-10 and 2-6. nm

I agree. I have a friend who works for Futurenet. SM
They only direct deposit certain people, no rhyme or reason for it.  She has her check overnighted every pay day, which costs her $50.00 a month.  It was supposed to have been delivered 12/23, but it got hung up in one of the terminals.  She won't get it until tomorrow, 12/27, not in time for Christmas.  It's just really bad business.  I would never work for a company that did not offer DD.
Scary .. best friend works in surgery .. happens more often than we want to know. nm

Friend works out of Monrovia - after a couple of times (sm)
of not meeting her quota they called and "chewed her out". Nothing was said about taking benefits away.
Glad it works for you... but I think you need to raise your rate and at least do a dime! nm
nm
You don't get paid an hourly rate you get paid by line - sm
so because of how you are paid (not an hourly rate) you don't get OT, especially if you are an IC.
I've also found it varies from editor to editor -
In one case I researched it fully, and found that both of them were wrong, and I had been right all along.
[Sigh........]
My friend who works for them is having her mail go to her own account. She hates this new mail prog
x
Gross line, also including blank lines because my line rate is so low. It all works out in the wash.

How about your husband tells the friend to tell his female friend to lose the #?

A friend of a friend is taking CareerStep - sm
she is under the misguided idea that she will be making very good $ upon completing the course (a friend of hers supposedly makes $55K a year). I told her no way, at least not starting out and not unless all the factors click together, i.e. good typing speed, good pay (not for a newbie), good dictators (unlikely) and dedication to working hard. I told her what I make after 5 years (16K) but that is PT and I have the potential to double that if I would push myself, not procrastinate so much (I web surf way too much) and work more than I already do. I am not a fast typist but am good at what I do. I will be surprised if she follows though. She told me she'd call me when she finished the course, I just hope she is ready for reality.
Full Word is in the Works "Suite," not plain Works.
Works saves files in a different format, but you can open them in Word if you have the correct filter installed.
RIGHT!!! Someone who works 16 hours and someone who works 60 will have a HUGE difference. NM
.
Editor Pay??
I've seen quite a few posts on here about pay being horrible...just wondering if I'm getting paid right. I've been editing now for two years, started at .02/line and now am getting paid .03/line (65 character line with spaces). I've been in the MT business for 4 years total. Does this sound right or should I ask for more??
bad editor
I think you are the editor that was making so many mistakes and had such poor quality,  And you are the first to cast stones???  SoftScript has always paid for all their lines if there was a problem.  You just didn't like getting caught doing poor work issues,  All of us MTs know who you are.
QA Editor Pay?
I've just been offered a QA editor position with the pay being .05 cpl.....Is this average pay or below average? Thanks!
Very well said and I am not an editor. I am MT
working hard and trying my hardest to do my job well. Both jobs are tough and we all need to be working together. While it not's always comfortable to have my errors pointed out to me, you can be sure that I probably will not make the same error again. As far as getting feedback, well as the old saying goes, "No news is good news."  If one works in DocQ, one can go back and pull up the "finished" product that has been corrected if blanks were left in it; so, that's good enough feedback right there. You can read the report as it was sent to the client after it has been through QA.
BUT I am not an editor
I was offered 2 cpl.
Editor

What is the standard "going" rate for an Editor position?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Editor pay
I've worked for 5 a line and 4 a line.
Becoming an Editor/QA
Can anyone tell me how you go about becoming an Editor or Q/A person.  It seems like every job opening wants experienced editors but where do you get the experience from.  I would work for a lot less if I could get experience editing. I have been an MT for over 20 years, so you would think that would count for something.
