Wave Files?
Help!  I have a Dr who is trying to send me his dictation thru a wave file and he can't get it to go thru because it is too big (102 mb) Is there anything I can tell him to do to make it smaller, like compress the file?  Thanks!
Anyone know of system that converts files to wave...help please

I am a small company and would like to know if anyone knows of a system that takes the dictation and converts it to wave files and these can then be sent to any number of medical transcriptionists?  I want a system that does nto require a lot of phone lines because of being a little remote, but would allow more than one doctor to dictate at a time and allow me to move files as need to each MT. I was hoping to find a dial in system like this rather than the hand helds because that is relying toooooooo much on them docking the thing, loading it etc.

any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Have my own ftp site for receiving wave files...return completed

reports to the doctor the same way... secure, safe, easy.  I purchase the space from startlogic for $90 a year. Hope this helps!

Converting voice files to digital files

I have a Voice Solutions dictation system that will happily convert DS4000 voice files to digital when they are downloaded (wave files). However, it will not recognize any other files for conversion. I had a physician download .WAM files from his DS-30 and my dictation system would not convert it. Anyone have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks!!!

wave pedal

When I looked up wave pedal, I saw this ExpressScribe, so do I assume that is what this is all referring to?  I have been typing for one doctor on the side and he now wants to go tapeless. Someone suggested to him that I look into wave pedal.  Can anyone clue me in.  As of right now, I cannot get high speed internet or DSL where I live, only satellite.  Any other suggestions, please clue me in.  Thx.

VR is definitely the wave of the future

Integris owns several large hospitals and numerous smaller clinics in Oklahoma City (near where I live) and they now do all their radiology transcription using VR. They only employ about five transcriptionists to do editing and what little transcription they need to have done. And their main hospital is the largest one in Oklahoma City. I don't know exactly how many radiology MTs they used to employ, but I do know they were staffed 24/7 and probably had at least 10 or more people working during peak times.

Actually, I think for a while this will work to the advantage of at-home transcriptionists, because it will be cheaper for smaller facilities to have a transcription company handle their work than for them to invest in a VR system. But eventually, yes, I think we will go the way of the dinosaurs....

I used their wave player when I had an
account with .dss files.  It worked fine.
All N One Wave Transcriber
Thanks for the advice. After using the 30-day free trial I found on a web site I've decided to stick with Digital Voice Editor (FS85USB). I don't like the pedal nearly as much but I guess I can live with it because the software is excellent. The All N One is okay, the other is just better. Thanks though. I appreciate it.
Did you save files in .rtf format? The files need to be
as a Word document or it won't count them. Could be the problem.
Do you pay for the wave pedal and software? I don't.
I rent the computer with the pedal and everything for $50 a month.

I have never spent any money on the software -- MQ has provided it free.

They reimburse my DSL 100% every month. When I hooked up to it, it only cost me $12.95 and they reimbursed that as well.

I can makeup time I lost to bad weather. I don't like it, it's not my first choice, but I certainly don't expect them to PAY me just because there is a storm and it is safest not to have the system plugged into power. Even when I worked in a local hospital on an hourly basis, in bad weather we were off the computers...but I also was available for that hourly rate to file and do other things they wanted. I'm not doing that for MQ when I'm able to type for that reason so they don't owe me anything but the chance to make it up or forfeit any action if it caused me to miss my production.

I'm really surprised though, if you are having to pay extra for your pedal and software, etc. Sorry to hear that.

check your file type after you hit open on the wav player. Tell it to show you all files. Your first file may be a wav and the second a dvf or some other file type.
Question about wave pedals...please help
I know this may seem like a simple question to most but I have always worked through phone lines to receive dictation.  I did purchase a USB port pedal from Expresscribe a couple of years ago in hopes of finding part time work to go along with my full time but I never could get it to work.  My computer would not recognize that it was connected.  Anyway, I am will to try again but at $189 for a universal pedal, I do not want to get stuck with something I can't use.  So, if anyone has the time to fully explain this to me I would appreciate it.  How does it work?  Can I use my MP3 player on my computer?  If I can use my MP3 player, wouldn't any pedal work in the game port?  Sorry for the questions but I would appreciate some answers as I am really looking for something I could move around with, like on vacations or business trips with my husband.

I use the microsoft wave keyboard
I'm sorry I didn't go to that link but it sounds like my MS keyboard. I went to a wireless one a few months back b/c it was on sale and had bonus wireless mouse so I thought I would try it. I do like it; I tend to prefer a clacky keyboard (showin' my age!) and it clicks and clacks just enough to keep me happy without being too "hard." The positioning of the keys works for me. It's not as split as my old ergo keyboard, but those are hard to find in the stores anymore so I "made do."
Loading a wave file

Can someone help me?  I just got a Infinity pedal to play wave files and I just loaded Express Scribe's free download.

Here is my question:  I get my files via an email attachment, so how do I download it into Express Scribe.  Do I have to save the attachment somewhere else in a word file or something and then load it from there?  Hope this makes sense.  Again, I'm new at this so anything will help.  Thank you in advance for the help.

Wave pedal issues ...

Anyone ever had a wave pedal start to go bad? I have a USB pedal that is just three years old, and it's starting to flake on me. It will stop on it's own or jump in the audio without me propting it. Maybe there are loose wires?

I'm tempted to open the thing up and see what I can do (though I'm totally clueless). Just wondering if anyone knows about this stuff or has had the issue and fixed it. If nothing else, I'll buy a new one (or ebay one).

Aren't pedals supposed to last longer than three years?!

I have the Logitech Wave and I love it...

Any opinions on All N One Wave Transcriber?
I am looking for a new transcriber software kit.  The All N One Wave Transcriber by Martel Electronics looks good but they don't have a free trial download.  I don't want to buy without knowing anything about it.  I need something that I can see all the files that have been downloaded to me and that I can listen to and name file by file.  I have a doctor that many times does not complete the dictation in one sitting - may continue it days later.  I need to be able to search through files to see if I have the continuations or not.  Most, from what I have found, don't have this option.  I have Sony's Digital Voice Editor and love it but really dislike the pedal so am trying to find something similar in another software. Does anyone out there have experience with this software and pedal (All N One)?  Thanks in advance for any advice.
I used their software/foot pedal. It is just a wave
file program.
Love my Logitech Wave keyboard sm

It's not as split apart as the tons of other ones I've tried over the years, it's wireless and comes with a wireless mouse as well, smaller than most others, and not as high to fit on my keyboard drawer.  I saw it at Costco here in Washington the other day; not sure if they carry it at all Costcos or not.

If you are talking about the Logitech Wave, I have that and love it...
very comfortable and there is not an adjustment period like you have with some of the others...
Have Bose surround system and the Wave Radio with
CD.  Have had the Bose surround sound system for at least 7 years, still going strong, and the radio/CD for about 5 years, still sounds as great as new.  There is no other stereo/sound system that has such rich sound, and you won't be disappointed!  Order directly from Bose and get the interest-free monthly payments, easier that way, but definitely worth every hard-earned penny.
Most companies do no use their only files (HIPAA). They use files provided by other companies, serv
If you can get through the test files, then the sound quality on the actual company files is better. And, the dictation is never as bad as the test files, plus you have QA to help with hard blanks.

Does anyone know why the wave volume control on my master volume controls... SM

on my PC would turn itself all the way down?  It's driving me nuts!  It's like it resets itself to the low possible setting and when I go to work, I'm turning my speakers up full blast trying to hear and when I check my volume controls on my PC, the wave setting is turned all the way down.  I turn it back and everything is loud and clear and I have to turn my speakers back down and then I'll do something the internet and BOOM it resets itself!

I feel bad because I've been accusing my kids of messing with the controls and they have been swearing they didn't do it and I haven't exactly believed them, but it has happened twice to me this evening while I'm working and I know no one else has touched my PC but me.

A wave pedal is a foot pedal that connects to either
serial port, game port, or USB depending on the software needed with it.   You have to download the work via the internet and most companies still require high-speed internet, though some allow dial-up or satellite.   A pedal costs about $70, though can find on e-bay cheaper.  You can download ExpressScribe for free to use with the foot pedal unless the company requires a different software program.
wav files
I receive my wav files via an FTP site and return the completed files the same way. I have a digital voice file player program on my computer, with a foot pedal, and play them that way. I type in Word, save the file, and send them back via the FTP site again. I like it alot, but the program costs $200 including the foot pedal. some have demo versions, like express scribe, I think, but I have heard alot of complaints about foot pedals not being compatible with it. email if you have additional questions.
FTP files??

I am really curious about these FTP files I see.  Someone has suggested to me using FTP and a digital drop box through the internet, rather than using email to send and receive.  Could someone email me and explain more about this to me.

TIA

wav files
Hi, I am assuming that you have a digital wav player and foot pedal, that it is already installed and operational?? I hope so. Anyway, you need to download your wav files to a certain folder where you will be able to *find* them. I download mine to a file folder I named *new voice files*. Your digital voice file player should have an area labeled *jobs* or something similar. I have Start and Stop digital voice player. once I click on the *jobs* button, a second window opens and there is a button called *settings*. Click on this, and you have the option of where to select your *new voice files from*. there should be a *browse* button so you can locate where you downloaded the wav files to. then click *ok*. You may have to close the *jobs* window and then reopen for it to take effect. Once reopened, all the downloaded jobs should be there and you highlight which one you want to play next. You may also have to click the drop down box in the file where you placed your downloaded files and click *all files* for them to be viewed. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me. good luck. ks
FTP files
Try downloading your FTP files to your "My Music" folder.  After you're done make sure the files appear in the "My Music" folder.  Then when you bring up the Express Scribe and click on load the files should be there.   Good luck!
Wav files
I work for a local company that has been using cassette tapes to do their work, but they have decided to try and do wav files on CD's.  My question is - What exactly do I need to purchase in order to transcribe from this CD?  Do I need just a wav pedal or do I need a pedal and software to go along with it?  My company doesn't know because this is all new to them too.  ~ Do you have a good wav pedal brand to recommend?   Thanks in advance.
FTP FILES
Okay, this is probably a pretty dumb question to most of you, but what is an FTP file?  Is this something that all computers have, or do you have to download something to access this capability.  I have been an in-house Transcriptionist for 14 years, and we still transcribe from minicassette tapes.  I worked for services many years ago, and again we transcribed from tapes.  I am thinking of doing some part-time at-home transcription and see this term being tossed around.  Could someone tell me what it is?
DSS files
I do dictation for a doc in Arizona and he uses DSS files. At least that is what my file extensions say when I D/L and U/L them. I go through a site called MedeDocs. They are in Texas. They use FTP to send things over the 'net. It is really easy and user friendly. I like it. I am goign to assume that my doc in AZ has a handset of some sort too. I am hazy on the details. I just type the reports. LOL.
.dss files

I am helping this girl get her computer to play these files.  She had her OS reinstalled (windows XP) and now the .dss files show up with 0 duration.  We have installed every codec and made sure that the .dll was in place.  We even installed an olympus player on her machine in case there were other codecs needed by windows (thinking surely this would resolve the problem) but nope!  Olympus won't play them either.

I know it's they are valid files because I had her email one to me and I can play it.  When I go through explorer and tell it to open with windows media player or olympus, and even start/stop, nothing.  I am completely at a loss.

Right now, she is loading them into olympus, converting to wav then loading them back into express scribe, since she has a pedal for express scribe.

If there's something we missed or can do differently please let us know!!

Thanks!

FTP files
Help! I am stuck in the 20th Century.  I just applied for a job (not medical) where I may have to use Express Scribe or FTP files. I think I can handle Express Scribe, but what are FTP files?  What do I need?
FTP Files
FTP is not really files, but a way to transfer them. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. I use FTP for both of my MT jobs. It is easy as pie. Think of it as two computers sharing information. I copy my jobs from an FTP site onto my harddrive and back again everyday. :-)
Unfortunately, if she files (sm)

bankruptcy she will actually be protected.  You will not be able to post the information as you will be barred by the bankruptcy order; in fact you will need to cease all communication with her regarding the amount owed.  She will not need to shut down her company to file bankruptcy.  She can file initially for the "relief" it will afford her and go from there, i.e. reorganize, etc.

I was just throwing the thought out there.  I think what she did is absolutely wrong and horrible.  How the heck can you afford to work for free though for her?  Basically, that's what it comes down to isn't it?

Good luck.

DSS files
I am curious if any of you know about DSS files.  I have an interview with a lady tomorrow for a contractor position.  She said they use an Olympus DSS system and I would need to purchase an Olympus DSS foot pedal.  I have 9 pin, 15 pin, and USB pedals.  Wouldn't one of those work with DSS files?  Any info would be greatly appreciated as I do not have $300 to invest in a new pedal!!  Who does??  Thanks in advance
DSS files
DSS is a type of file.  Other players will play that type of file.  The woman I worked for used the Olympus DSS Player in the office with the doctors, loaded the work to a TASP, and the Transcriptionist downloaded the file to be played with Express Scribe.  You didn't even need a foot pedal at all.  Hope this helps.
DSS files
You can play DSS files with the DSS Player Lite. You can download it for free from Olympus at http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/DSSL211E.exe

DSS Player Lite will also play .val, .wav, and .wma files.javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
DAT files
Is there a freeware or shareware dictation program that plays DAT files?
RE: DAT files

I use Quick View Plus to view DAT files when i get them.  HTH
