wave/dss files.
I click on the attachment then "save" to "My Documents". I use the Olympus player and can either import it into the player or just click on the file in documents and the player will come up.
Wave Files?
Help!  I have a Dr who is trying to send me his dictation thru a wave file and he can't get it to go thru because it is too big (102 mb) Is there anything I can tell him to do to make it smaller, like compress the file?  Thanks!
It isn't the wave files that are the problem, it is the
program you are using to play them and an incompatibility problem with it and your foot pedal.   What program are you using to play the files and what foot pedal - meaning is it USB, game port, or serial port?
Express Scribe and receiving the voice files...

I have been using Express Scribe to transcribe notes from voice files that are sent to my AOL mailbox.  I was told that AOL mailboxes will only allow smaller sized voice files and that they will not accept larger files.  Does anyone have information regarding this matter?  Is there a better server I should change to so I can receive the larger voice files?

I was also wondering if I should instead use one of those MT platforms where the doc’s email to that specific platform and the MT picks them up there.  For the life of me, I cannot recall the name of that site.  If anyone knows of the site, can you please let me know.

All advice appreciated, thank you.

Need Help receiving encrypted files through Express Scribe!

Is there anyone out there who could tell me how I could listen to encrypted files in my Express Scribe which I receive through email???  I am able to receive and listen to them just fine when not encrypted, but cannot figure out how to set ES up to use a password.  When I click on the voice file in my inbox, it now takes me to ES, but displays an ERROR box stating  - unable to open DSS file, this means the file might not be a true DSS file or the file is corrupt.

Yesterday, I posted this on the wrong board, but did receive some response anyway and thanks!  Still now working though. Someone told me that I needed to get the User Id # from the clinic's software program they are using.  The person I subcontract for thought that the User Id from her Olympus DSS software would work, but I am not so sure since the files originally come from the clinic.

I would rather not have to purchase the Olympus program if not necessary.  I would think there would be some way to receive these encrypted files with their password.  I have also tried to leave the User ID area blank or enter 0, but this does not work either. Keep getting the ERROR message as above.

The files are coming from a dss program called Olympus if that matters.  Any insight would be greaaaatly appreciated!!!

Anyone know of system that converts files to wave...help please

I am a small company and would like to know if anyone knows of a system that takes the dictation and converts it to wave files and these can then be sent to any number of medical transcriptionists?  I want a system that does nto require a lot of phone lines because of being a little remote, but would allow more than one doctor to dictate at a time and allow me to move files as need to each MT. I was hoping to find a dial in system like this rather than the hand helds because that is relying toooooooo much on them docking the thing, loading it etc.

any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Looking for a machine or something that will convert micro tapes to wave files
Any suggestions?

Thank you!
I get it. But in return for supporting the small business the poor folk get nothing in return.
I understand why you don't shop at Walmart. You support those who support you but it doesn't work that way for me. I can go to an independent shop and by a dishwasher, pay lots more for it and get nothing in return to supplement my support of their small business. Same for all the poor folk who are shopping in Walmart trying to stretch a paycheck. I am glad Walmart exists for those folks.
Someone posted this site a while ago for test files. sm

Sample test files to download from a bunch of different specalities.  No time limits.

My foot pedal is a 15 pin foot pedal that is plugged into the joy-stick port on my tower. I went to Radio Shack to get the 15-pin adapter to get it to work in the USB port. I think the adapter was maybe $15 or so. It works just fine.
I am looking for recommendations for a FTP site to retrieve digital voice files. sm
Can you tell me what site you use, how much it costs, etc.? Any info appreciated!
Thank you! Because she just completed...
an LPN course and is considering going on to finish for RN.  If she was a PA she would be way beyond that point and totally unnecessary!!  Now MAYBE he will finally hush about it! LOL
Completed it. Thanks!!
Good luck .
I just completed my first week of DQS and WOW (sm)
Thank goodness I had one week of Cottage to keep my line count a little above bankruptcy level. One day I typed ten reports like we used to do in batches and these were approximately the same type of reports I normally did. Later next day, checked line count and what would normally have been from 500-800 lines was 372. I was flabbergasted and it took me almost 3 hours to do this.

Another problem I have is the lack of feedback. I was trained, sent in a couple of sample documents and that was it. Even those where I requested QC check over I got no feedback on. I tried to call QA and was given voice mail and told someone would return my call in 24 hours. Not much help when you are in the middle of something.

I better quit complaining and see if I can eke out a few lines this morning.

I just completed my shift for the day and
I had an easy doc for most of my shift today and she does mammograms and so it is copy and paste and change the necessary material. I worked on Meditech once, and found it very cumbersome. My platform now is word based and I love it. I get an accurate line count daily.
How many MTs have a completed Bachelor's or higher currently?
nm
I promise I will once the survey is completed....sm
I don't want to influence the results in any way so the information will be unbiased and more meaningful.

Well, let's see 15 years ago I completed a transcription...SM

program.  Not an "online" program.  I actually went to a college and attended classes which include A&P I and II, Medical Terminology Greek and Latin, and Pharmacology in addition to a number of computer courses.  That's in addition to my Bachelor's degree in English.

Then, of course, there is my 13 years experience as an MT before I decided to move into QA.

Completed COBRA recently-VLM

The following speaks of my personal experience with Cobra - Insurance premiums out-of-pocket for any reason are an expensive undertaking (they are also tax deductible if you meet deduction requirements).  I was appreciative of having the option of Cobra because of my personal circumstances.  If you are considering going without health insurance for any amount of time, I would suggest that you may be gambling with more than your health.  One emergency surgery or health crisis not covered can cost you everything - I know because it happened to me.  Hospitals and physicians are bound by no debt code - they will sue you and take your home, business, car, pots, pans and the shirt off your back if they can redeem a penny for it.  They are not required to accept a payment plan.  My hospital told me that an indefinite payment offered by me to start of $100 every 2 weeks to start was not worth their time and effort.  A bit of trivia - I was employed by this same hospital for 10+ years.

COBRA guidelines are set by the Fed - all rules must be followed to the letter by all parties.  My premium was 120% of what my original premium while employed with the company was.  I went the entire 18 months during which my premium was raised once - without warning - if you fail to pay the premium exact to the penny, by the exact postmarked indicated date, you are terminated from the plan.  I was nearly terminated with the premium increase which arrived in a separate envelope along with the premium notice.  There are no exceptions to the rules governing Cobra - this works sometimes in your favor and sometimes in the ex-employer's favor.   After the first premium increase, I called 1 time each month on the same day and asked if there was a premium increase -  the point being don't take anything at face value when dealing with this issue.

These guidelines also direct what happens when your Cobra involvement ends or if you terminate it before the 18 months are finished - there are also exclusions which may make the amount of Cobra coverage available longer than 18 months.  The day your Cobra ends, you have a set number of days to get involved with another plan - if you choose Cobra, make sure someone explains what happens when the plan ends, and if you are told "nothing" or "you are on your own," ask someone else who knows that they are talking about.

If you choose Cobra, you need to speak to whomever administers the plan - some companies hire a third party, others do not.  Make sure you get all the facts.

There are obvious negatives but one thing is an absolute positive, if you meet all the guidelines each month and pay the correct premium on time, you will have continuation of your health coverage and time to plan for the future.  My research led me to understand that I might find a cheaper interim plan, but I might just as easily lose that plan for any number of reasons, leaving me high and dry.  I personally could not risk this.  I saw an earlier comment about not letting coverage lapse and preexisting conditions - If there is a plan anywhere which does not have a preexisting clause of some type for every new enrollee, I would be very surprised.  I talked to about 14 carriers over 6 months.  Not having a lapse in coverage or not exceeding the cushion of days provided by Cobra between policies is most beneficial, I feel, when you are applying for new coverage on your own - Companies are much more receptive to someone who has existing coverage as opposed to someone without, for obvious reasons.  However, this varies from ins co to ins so and you need to do your homework.

One last thing, I cannot speak for every state, but I called our State Insurance Commish - wonderful lady whose staff went way out of the way to make sure I was fully clear on what my Cobra rights were. These people were totally on my side! I highly recommend this phone call to anyone trying to get health insurance.  The state is not allowed to recommend an insurance co; however, they do have ratings and data that you may find very helpful in choosing coverage.

I spent many, many hours learning about and personally experiencing this process - I hope you find something helpful here.  Whatever happens, I wish you the best of luck!

you will be editing a completed ASR report vs typing

Converting voice files to digital files

I have a Voice Solutions dictation system that will happily convert DS4000 voice files to digital when they are downloaded (wave files). However, it will not recognize any other files for conversion. I had a physician download .WAM files from his DS-30 and my dictation system would not convert it. Anyone have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks!!!

I think other way, for receiving not sending

Looks like that's only for sending, not receiving?

Are you currently receiving any type of
assistance or benefits through OVR (Office of Vocational Rehab)?  That could be a motivating factor for this counselor to get you to take a job that is obviously beneath your qualifications.  I would hold out.  She can't force you to take it.
Not receiving any assistance. sm
I wanted financial help with going back to school for coding. The only training they offered was at a JVS school or a IDT type school as a medical assistant. Then the funds for training were cut. They offered (and pushed) this job assistance program which I thought was going to be more in depth than it is. I thought I would be sent on interviews they had arranged. Basically I meet with the counselor once a week and she gives me leads she found on the internet and I send in my resume. She supposedly knows the area and was going to provide local job leads. I lost one MT job in June due to VR and on my own found the job I have now in about a week. Yes I probably need another job in billing/coding so I can make more money, but now is not the time to be giving up a job you already have. IMHO
if you purchase bytescribe/docshuttle, you can actually upload the completed work back on there. nm

Unbelievable! And to think at MQ we are bellyaching at receiving...sm
only 80% of our regular line rate for editing. It sounds like clinic notes, dr's office notes, maybe just a few docs, nothing complicated, lots of canned text etc. Still 2 cents a line, I don't think you could speed up the sound enough to make any money at that rate unless there were no mistakes whatsoever.
I would be afraid of receiving a lethal

sending/receiving dictation
I am looking at taking on another account.  My account I currently have I did not have to set up the send/receive aspect because it was already done for me.  My first client uses a software called Send-It.  They upload the handheld recorder tapes onto the computer on thier end and it transfers to my FTP site.  Now they do not make this software because it is not compatible with XP.  Is there any software out there like this that is compatible with XP so I can let my new client know where to get it?  He wants to do a call in situation, but I know nothing about this and would like to keep both clients the same.  Thanks for any information!!
Is that right? The MTSO is receiving the same rate
and paying the MT less for editing. That is a horrible thought. I was under the impression that the MTSO was also charging less for editing. Sure, we may in some instances be able to edit twice the amount of lines, but in reality we are still doing double the work for less the money. Makes no sense that we would have to do more work for less money. If this keeps up and we keep getting our rate cut, soon we will end up like one of those down and out person on the street that you see with a sign that says, "Will work for food."
I have a call in system and also use tapes. We send completed reports via encrypted email.
I use MPCount, which is a free line counting program that you can download and it works great.
the grand total is 3 so far from the emails I am receiving....thanks everyone - nm
x
Since you aren't receiving any response via the e-mail,
I think you should telephone her.  This is possibly the only real way you could find out what is going on.  Certainly after 3 times of nonpayment, I'd do no more work until all behind monies are paid and then in the future only allow 1 payment to be late before not doing work for her. Good luck to you
trouble receiving Daily Digest??
Can anyone tell me why I am having trouble re-signing up for the Daily Digest.  Have not been receiving now for about a month and cannot seem to re-sign up - keep getting error message??  Thanks - I miss it.
wave pedal

When I looked up wave pedal, I saw this ExpressScribe, so do I assume that is what this is all referring to?  I have been typing for one doctor on the side and he now wants to go tapeless. Someone suggested to him that I look into wave pedal.  Can anyone clue me in.  As of right now, I cannot get high speed internet or DSL where I live, only satellite.  Any other suggestions, please clue me in.  Thx.

VR is definitely the wave of the future

Integris owns several large hospitals and numerous smaller clinics in Oklahoma City (near where I live) and they now do all their radiology transcription using VR. They only employ about five transcriptionists to do editing and what little transcription they need to have done. And their main hospital is the largest one in Oklahoma City. I don't know exactly how many radiology MTs they used to employ, but I do know they were staffed 24/7 and probably had at least 10 or more people working during peak times.

Actually, I think for a while this will work to the advantage of at-home transcriptionists, because it will be cheaper for smaller facilities to have a transcription company handle their work than for them to invest in a VR system. But eventually, yes, I think we will go the way of the dinosaurs....

I used their wave player when I had an
account with .dss files.  It worked fine.
All N One Wave Transcriber
Thanks for the advice. After using the 30-day free trial I found on a web site I've decided to stick with Digital Voice Editor (FS85USB). I don't like the pedal nearly as much but I guess I can live with it because the software is excellent. The All N One is okay, the other is just better. Thanks though. I appreciate it.
Do you want a birthday gift too? Christmas is for giving, not receiving.

Has anyeone else had a problem receiving x-rated emails? sm
It started a few weeks ago, and they come in with the name on the email as my husband's name, but it's my own email address. They are usually lewd subject lines, talking about male size, and crap like that. I accidently opened one and they all have to do with drugs like Viagra and Cialis. They had a website to link to to get off their emailing list, but I can tell that they have somehow just glommed onto my system.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a virus or something? Any ideas on how to get rid of it? It's not like I can block my own email address or my husband's from coming into my email box, which is exactly how they're sending them, like they're coming from myself!

Any ideas, please? I've been deleting something like 25 emails a day from these, and I'm getting ill just having to read the subject line that pops in with each one.

Many thanks, in advance, if anyone has any info on this scam.
Did you save files in .rtf format? The files need to be
as a Word document or it won't count them. Could be the problem.
Do you pay for the wave pedal and software? I don't.
I rent the computer with the pedal and everything for $50 a month.

I have never spent any money on the software -- MQ has provided it free.

They reimburse my DSL 100% every month. When I hooked up to it, it only cost me $12.95 and they reimbursed that as well.

I can makeup time I lost to bad weather. I don't like it, it's not my first choice, but I certainly don't expect them to PAY me just because there is a storm and it is safest not to have the system plugged into power. Even when I worked in a local hospital on an hourly basis, in bad weather we were off the computers...but I also was available for that hourly rate to file and do other things they wanted. I'm not doing that for MQ when I'm able to type for that reason so they don't owe me anything but the chance to make it up or forfeit any action if it caused me to miss my production.

I'm really surprised though, if you are having to pay extra for your pedal and software, etc. Sorry to hear that.

I have extra wave pedal
What is your email address? I have extra wave pedal.  You may have it - no charge.  ssc

check your file type after you hit open on the wav player. Tell it to show you all files. Your first file may be a wav and the second a dvf or some other file type.
