It was simply the work from your assigned accounts.

More of our work is transcription based rather than ASR. However, we are in a training initiative so all employees will be prepared for handling ASR.

    Assigned accounts....sm
There's a lot to be said for "assigned jobs" if it's done on a fair basis and if the person doing the assigning doesn't have their own agenda, i.e, where the "Lead MT" does the assigning of jobs as well as having to get her own lines in.  Who do you think is going to get the best dictations??  Do you think she/he will assign the good, easy dictations to the MTs on a fair basis and keep the lousy, crappy, ESL dictations for herself ?  Come on!  For the most part, management doesn't give a hoot as long as work gets done and is kept within TAT.
I do have assigned accounts and even those I can't get back within 24-48 hours at end of week. s
I think I need to have on-call coverage to help, but I don't have much time to train...I sometimes just think it takes less time to do it myself than to train someone new, but I'm just tired of working all the time. If I could find people who have so much experience that they can just be able to work and get it right by having a sample report and a template...hard to believe, but not everyone can do that....Also need a c-phone to access work on my system.
    how is your work assigned?
I just started with a new company and very frustrated with how they handle work assignments.  I'd like to hear from other MTs how they feel about it and how they are assigned their work.  I have always been assigned a specific amount of work each day or worked a specific amount of hours.  When my time was up or my jobs were done, then I was done for the day.  This new company is doling out work in a very unusual way.  It is a clinic Ortho account and she assigns work as it comes in, which is understandable.  But if I happen to be gone for an hour or so and she gets work in, she will assign it to another MT who can do it right then and there.  I have asked her to send me a whole gob of work each evening so I've got work that will last me the next day.  She refuses to do it that way so I end up sitting here all day long waiting on her to e-mail me saying, "I've sent you a few files."  And so far that's all it's been, a FEW files.  Nothing I can't finish in under 30-45 minutes.  This is just ridiculous but the line rate is so good that I am hesitant to try to find something else.  Anybody else have this problem?
    assigned work
Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I have the same problem. But I have an acute care backup account to work on. I prefer the other account though because I am used to it. It sounds like we work for the same company. LOL. When I get the clinic it is sent like you said as it comes in and sometimes if another MT is available she will send it to them. I work on a clinic general surgery account. And I wished they would let me do the accounts work exclusively. But no it is given to one MT one time and another the next time. But I have the backup account so I can't complain but that is how they do the clinic work.
Well we are individually assigned work...sm
The manager assigns the work out to each individual MT so I am wondering how much work the other MTs are getting on the account.
So, just simply summing it up. You have 2 kids, and they fight while you work, so you just
send them to daycare, and now they're "socialized".  This thinking just is soooooooo beyond me! And you can all scream and call me negative, but its just a travesty. Daycare - daycare - the replacement mom of our society, and its NOT working. Kids these days are a mess - an absolute mess.  I have no words to waste on this topic - its sickening.  And for all the millions and millions of mothers who have NO choice but to leave the home and throw the kids in day care - sitting in an office with a heavy heart.  Here you all can have the blessing of having your precious kids with you, but the slightest challenge - fighting? PLEASE! What kids don't fight? So, instead of training them yourself and teaching them to "socialize" with their own siblings, let alone their mother, you ship them off to daycare - Oh, yeah, there's the logical solution! Its just soooooooooooooo old, actually. Millions of Moms - even the big $$ CEOs, are realizing the fallacy of day care, and working from home to RAISE their own kids.  Sure, its challenging, but the rewards are priceless, so cliche!  Such an easy cop out to ship 'em off to daycare - let them "socialize" them...So what do your kids learn?  Certainly not to behave at home.  They're probably still acting out at home, while angels at daycare!
Several accounts that I work on...

have specifically requested that a colon be used with military time.  Although this is incorrect, it is what the client wants.

Regarding QA, I do e-mail them directly.  I occasionally will send a "Thank You" along with a question, and I always receive a "You're Welcome" in return.  I guess it all depends on the company you work for.  I really do believe, though, that QA really appreciates knowing that the MTs appreciate their help.

5 accounts and running out of work

What's wrong is not on your end.

What's wrong is each of those 5 accounts having 17 people on each of them who have to switch back forth and maintain productivity.

Production and TAT improve if the MT is on one acount long enough to get a rhythm going.

There is also the problem of recognizing doctor's names. If 4 different doctors are mentioned in your report and you are on 5 different hospitals....well, you know where I'm going with this one.....

Why not work for yourself with private accounts?
Then you don't have to follow the beat of the MQ (or any other company) drum?

Or try for a supervisor position? You know how you want to be treated; then you'd be in the perfect position to handle other MTs the way you believe they should be. You'll be highly motivational for them and your company will probably have kudos for you for having a winning team.

    Just two options of many.
Do you have your own accounts or do you work for a company?
    X
I only work on EditScript accounts...
    and they lost theirs.
That is absolutely ridiculous for anyone to have to have 9 accounts to have work.
    :
Maybe that is where all my work goes. They sure overloaded my accounts in Amherst.

I work for co who levels accounts, only thing is MTs within those

Good accounts and plenty of work. sm
PT line count is 6000 per pay period; FT is 12000.
I work two accounts. One is by the report and one is by the line.
Keystrokes has both, and it depends on the type of account. Some have a lot of normal exams and plain xray, the one by the line has mostly MRIs and CTs. I think it is fair and I make great money.
Are you with a certain company or is this in general? Own accounts? Ask your QA if you work
    s
I have heard of this two different ways -- Where I work now, we have no blank accounts which mean
that you must leave a QA marker for the QA department and if they can't figure it out, then in most cases they can leave a blank.  Where another friend works, her no blank account involves calling other MTs for their input, also as a last resort, can call the hospital and ask for assistance with the chart from the floor.
I have my own accounts and I work as an employee, but we are not talking about BEING an MTSO, we are

the MTSO's offer.  If you are a well-trained, knowledgeable medical Transcriptionist with experience and you are looking for an IC job or an employee position with an MTSO, then you are worth more than 8 or 9 cpl.  If all you do is sit and transcribe all day long, you are worth more than 8 or 9 cpl.

I really don't know what you're getting at.  Not everyone has the capabilities, time, or money to start their own service.  Not everyone is good at pounding the pavement and finding their own accounts.  I'm not a salesperson to say the least.  I lucked into my own personal accounts and if I hadn't, I'd be working for one of the MTSOs, but I'm not.  My full-time employee status job is with a hospital for the benefits only and it pays hourly with incentive.  Right now, that's the only employee status job worth taking is through an actual hospital, NOT an MTSO.  At least at the hospital, you get a decent wage and get great benefits.  Oh, there are a few good MTSOs out there, but they are very few and far between.

I work for eTransPlus, hospital accounts, and QA is great - nm

As everyone said, you have to have it assigned back to you...(sm)
It's actually not a part of ExText that you do it in. The program that handles the voice jobs is Dictaphone's JobLister. Not only would you have to have the rights to access it, you would have to have the program loaded on your pc. This is, with most companies, only given to team leads and QA.
I have always had an access # assigned....
If you could get into a records system without a private passcode, that would be a major HIPAA situation! I always have a sign-in ID asigned by the facility for any C-phone account I have worked; but it is strange that you are hearing a beep and not an operator giving instructions. I've never had that situation before. If you don't have an account Lead you can contact to get help, I'm thinking you'd best tell your employer this isn't working! Good luck.
    being assigned same dictators
does help you get to know them so you can get fast with them and set up macros and auto-text but when are these MT companies going to realize that and quick putting us in pools? I realize they have to have their accounts covered 24-7 but this is no way to make money and really increases your chance of errors. It would be beneficial for both MT and the company to assign us our own dictators. There are only really a few companies out there who do this.....what a shame!!!
How can you tell if you're being assigned certain jobs or not? sm

It seems to be as if I've been getting mostly the yucky dictators for a while now, with some good ones being thrown in here and there. I know a while back with this company (been here 1-1/2 years), I noticed a good change with getting assigned same clinics (clinic acct., obviously). It was even brought up at a phone conference, and the VP acknowledged they'd changed tactics and were assigning accts. as opposed to just letting us all in the pool. Said it was a good change for the company, and we MTs agreed as well.

But, for the last couple of months or so, I've noticed a downward trend in my dictators, and the job numbers aren't in order, just here and there, even different clinics popping in and out. I emailed the Account Liason and asked her if there was something going on here, and she said she didn't know, she'd have to check with the MT supervisor. She then came back & said no, there's been no change or assignments (which I reminded her the VP herself had said there was), and that I was just getting the luck of the draw.

However, something I'd read on this board got me to thinking. If these people in the position to control these jobs, such as the AL and who all else, are also typing and getting paid by the line, naturally they could pull in all the good jobs themselves. If they do get paid by production, I don't think they should be able to control the ques at all.

I just don't know whether to pursue this line of questioning or not, since I'd already tried once, and I'm not 100% sure of myself, just suspicious. Like, the other accts. jobs that are thrown in between while working on one clinic is usually a bad one.

    Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, should I ask for a line-rate increase? I've been here 1-1/2 years and am making the same as I started, .08/line.

ask them about your assigned (or not) doctors - be careful with KS
also, no auto backup with Lanier footpedal, can only work when Lanier is available.
Are you using a Cphone? Don't the files keep feeding into your que or are you assigned? You'll

I assigned single letters to very common labs SM
For instance, i is for calcium (i just because I wasn't already used it for abbreviations with low-range numbers). Calcium 10.3 would be i103. Creatinine 0.7 is e07, e used for the same reason. I like it.

10-20 red cells is 1020rc and 10 to 20 red cells is 1020rc', but I'm not crazy about it. The "tttrc" I used to use was just as basic but better; I just wanted a system that would be memorable and allow me to enter lots of values without conflicting with other abbreviations. Maybe someone will offer a good system so I can change without bothering to think about it. :)
This is becoming the normal, unfortunately. To get assigned docs & accts. makes for good line

How about zillions of accounts. MQ has these accounts so overloaded even the new hires dont have any
work. I would love to read some of these reports and then they expect perfect QA and no blanks. Did they lose their minds completely.
Well, you're all complaining that accounts are current and work is low, so, gee, maybe they're
focusing on WORK, as in CLIENT and transcribing, as maybe half of you should be focusing on!!
The accounts are old and she keeps her accounts TRUSTING she hired the right MTs
who if in doubt will ask questions regarding reports. No one can find all mistakes in all reports and that is human to have a report with perhaps a typo. You think anyone reads through all the reports of a national company before they get to the hospital? Not a chance. Some random QA is supposed to correct all mistakes? Not hardly. Doctors/dictators make mistakes too. We all do. So do QA people. So the thing is this person hires good people who are trustworthy, the hospital likes the way she does their account and life goes on quite nicely w/o hovering editors/QA people. BTW, who QAs the QA people on your accounts. Ever wonder?
I assume you are assigned number much like a license number that can be verified through the AAMT.

Beyond that, I have no idea.

    Simply put....

These are people's lives and people's health.  I am NOT going to guess because their doctor doesn't give a crap and refuses to dictate clearly so lets his MT guess what he's trying to say and hopes she/he gets it right.

I swear, this group might as well have farted or belched it all out - it would probably have been understood better than they way they dictated it.  And I'm not talking medical terminology either.  I'm talking basic simple English words that they slur all to you know where that is imperative to each patient's record.

I know to some $$$$ is what counts.  Call me an odd ball because to me, integrity and knowing you did an accurate job is what counts. I can't do an accurate job without the doctor's help when it comes to dictating clearly.  It takes two in this business - the doctor and the MT -to get it right.  So ask me if I miss them.

    and you are simply.............nm

    I simply cannot believe this.

It seems to me that you could just simply

and then copy and paste it into the shell for Meditech.  I hated Meditech as well.  Yes, I did get used to it, but it is not MT friendly AT ALL!!!

If I would guess though, your Word would work well since the spellcheck is better.  Try a small report, and see what happens.

    Simply say
that you really did/do want more work, but this new account is just not worth your time the way it is set up (and give details).

There is no way a reasonable adult would not understand that. If they bark (or bite), it means they simply don't care about the people who work for them.

There is nothing rude about not working for wages that aren't worth your time.
No, I am simply asking if anyone else
has this problem with THEIR company? In other words, is this common, or not?!
    I simply won't do it.

That makes the report too hard to read, thus more of a margin for errors.  And I put in an extra space after periods on VR that have only one.

    MedQuist is simply...
The greatest medical transcription company on the planet.

I think that is simply fabulous
I am jewish, so I try to find a job that I am capable of doing and volunteer to work for them on Christmas Day
That was certainly not my intent. I simply...sm
wanted constructive input from others. I am thankful for the job I have but I believe it is human nature to try to do better and of course if I can make more money in less time I would feel I was doing better! I just needed opinions which so far have been helpful.
I simply believe in God and what he stands for..
I can't really say I am a Christian or any other particular faith. I know you have very strong convictions and I think it is wonderful, but isn't it funny how we follow and obey the bible in some instances and don't in others. The bible is a guide for us to live by. If we took it seriously, women would be in dresses, men would be working, women would not, women would have long hair, etc. Actually, Halloween is a religious day.. "The festival of Halloween is based on a combination of the Christian commemoration of the departed faithful (All Saints' Day) with the pre-Christian Celtic feast associated with a celebration of the end of summer and the Celtic New Year."

Simply assign the job # to yourself...
    and then hit next job.
I simply said, let me know if it is abnormal.
Rather than that, she played a little game. Editing and e-mailing me my chest x-ray report. Geesh ladies.

Had I been asked, I would have simply put off responding until the person had the results from their physician. No big deal.

    simply verbatim
Has anyone worked for this company? Just curious.
    I was simply curious!

No more, no less!  I don't care personally.  I just think that HIPAA thing is so over-the-top that this one jumped out at me.  I see why they have it, but sometimes it's a bit much.  My sis is the CEO of a Hospice in Chicago, and says it's a nightmare for them, so it depends on which side of the issue one is on at the moment.

    Which is simply overkill, IMO

I question that part of HIPAA regulations.  If a person can't match the demographics to a report, what is the freaking big deal that its confidentially be protected?  So what if anyone sees you're typing a report for "someone" with symptoms A, B, and C?  Aren't there zillions of people with those symptoms worldwide?  Unless you're in a teeny town typing reports for the ONLY hospital where it's possible only ONE person could have a report like that, its really crazy to think that the average layperson, even in they could understand WHAT they were reading in a report, could figure out from any given report WHO that report was for, or even what hospital in what part of the country.  Without the demos, WHAT security is breached and HOW is it considered a security breach????

I'm also over having to have a zillion constantly-changing passwords so I can sit and type in my secure house!  The amount of programs I have to use to type a single report are so complex and aggravating that unless someone came in here who works for the exact same company, nobody would have a clue how to go about bringing up a report and rooting through the demos.  And who the heck would even WANT to?

I can see the need for HIPAA inhouse, where there are tons of people who know the system floating around, patients around looking and listening, and local people knowing stuff about other locals.  But in the case of the remote, isolated MT, who will never meet a single doc, patient, or facility she types for, making us jump through HIPAA hoops is tiresome and pointless - especially since our Indian bretheren typing the same exact reports don't have to worry about it!

Simply ridiculous. There are many people here who

have entered viewpoints on certain subjects.  It is an insult to MTStars for you to entertain the notion that only one person would post here with views different than what you would like to see.  Get over yourself and have a nice day for a change.
