Have to sign contract and
have to give a month notice if I do not like it, or feel it will not make enough money. It is user friendly and can use expanders.
First of all, did she sign a contract?
If you did not have her sign a contract, then you can just let her go with no notice.  If you did have her sign a contract, then just give her a reminder of what is expected of her as stated in the contract.  This is why contracts are so important.  It gives you something to stand behind your expectations are not being met.  As a professional, you can't just keep someone on because you like them.  You need to have someone you can count on even you don't particularly like them....  JMO.
Did you have her sign a contract with a

If not, then just take it as a learning lesson - that your fill-in decided to compete with you, and more importantly that your client decided to keep you both.  Your PT office may be naive to it all.  However, consider, if I was the PT office, why would I tell my MT to get a fill in, then decide to keep the fill-in and my MT?  Unless business is booming and there is plenty of work for everyone, I would take it as a slap in the face.  I hate when docs offices do this.  Personally, I'd confront my fill in and the client about it

Yes, of course IC's have to sign a contract.
Independent Contractors always sign a contract, to my knowledge. I have never taken an assignment without a contract.
Yes they can if you sign the contract.

For next time: Don't sign a contract like this. SM

You should be paid no matter what. Insanely crazy that some people think your pay should depend on theirs!

Make amendments to contract, initial, sign &
x
Do you mean sign a contract stating that you won't work for another company?...sm
If so, I did not have to sign anything saying I would not work elsewhere while working for them.
Didn't you guys sign a contract stating what and how you were paid?
m,
You need a good attorney NOW!! My
friend's sister died at the age of 51 because a doctor prescribed birth control pills for the mood swings of menopause without first checking her triglycerides or doing any blood work. Her triglycerides were very elevated, and the addition of the medication caused her pancreas to shut down and she died. There is a big lawsuit on this one, too.
Still, I say find a good attorney way outside your

Good for you. My brother is a sheriff. He tells me things I can't believe! nm

You need to consult a bankruptcy attorney on that one. Good luck...

Will filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and District Attorney do me any good if a sm
I live in a different state than her.  Also the amount is less than $100.  Thanks.
I've seen people put a sign up that says "OUT OF CANDY"
and that usually does the trick.
Man, what is with you people? She was offered a contract...a set rate ...
the RECRUITER screwed up here, making an offer before the test results were returned and graded.

The recruiter is a fine example of getting a quoata.

This MT did not "mess it up" herself. True, it is a good idea in this business to start a job part-time to see if it will actually meet your expectations, but she in no way did anything to trick or misguide the recruiter into pulling such a shady deal.

Actually, I take that as a good sign.
If you haven't noticed, most posts on this board are bad. With the thousands of MTs out there, the ones that post here are mostly the naysayers. The ones that are happy are busy working and living their lives.

I have a great job, great company (and no I'm not telling you who they are), and am very satisfied with the $25/hr average I earn.
Oh, no, that's not a good sign. Tt is said
that one shouldn't take one's job home, but taking one's job into the bed is a misery! In bed one should think of something else!
Anyone know about Mediscript IL, on here a lot, not good sign nm
x
Okay, weird, I'm 32. This is not a good sign.
I think it may be from having kids too. Oh no! What will I be like when menopause hits??!? Is this early Alzheimers?!?! Great. That's all I need.
But really what is a contract good for anyway.....

It might give you some security for a little bit but the 30-day clause is always a gimmick.  If they chose to not use you any more, not much you cant do about it, like being fired.

I thought I was set up wth the best possible situaton with a contract and 30-day clause but that was eight years ago when I first took the account from the doctor, then I lost the darn contract, I mean misplaced the paper work,  and the doctor sold practice to a Hospital firm so then the doctor left and they "THOUGHT" they was going to do transcripton but then they THOUGHT they will just do forms to save money  So I guess they THOUGHT they would not need me anymore.  When I mentioned I had a 30-day clause, they promptly gave a 30-day notice that they would no longer be using my services but they were not even dictating at that point so what good was adhering to the clause!!!

Sure I could have went every day for 30 days to pick up work but there would not have been any .... so was just wasting my time.  SO I did not get any type of warning they were no longer using my services until I arrived there to get it one mornning

rude people? I would take good pay over polite people any day
Besides that they have never been rude to me and I have been here for almost 2 years. What do you consider a bad account?

I know my account is a little tough, but I am used to it. I am tough!
Can you use a plus sign for hyper and minus sign for hypo?
x
Google contract samples, basic contract examples, etc.
:+
not good with people either, so that really

The thought of working for the public just makes me cringe.  How do waitresses, cashiers, etc., put on that happy face all day long?  Props to them.

Some people (definitely NOT me) are good at SM

ESLs and know that companies will usually pay more per line for ESL accounts.

I personally would want to commit hari kari (sp?) if I had to do ESLs day in and day out.  JMHO.

Chickadee

That is true, when you sign up you sign up from the
day your former insurance terminated. Then it is on a month to month basis.
YEP, and some people have good taste and....sm
and some others have NO taste/class....*lol*
Yes there are people actually good enough to hit 98% accuracy. Happens every day!!!!! sm
QA has only become a real job in the last 10 years. Before that there was 1 QA person for every roughly 100 MTs!!!
Of course it was - too many people still believe we went there for a good reason. nm

what some people have to do to feel good about themselves

"What do you all do when you have to type an expletive?  I am working on an account where this comes up often.  I refuse to type the actual expletive so I usually just put (expletive) and go on.  No one has ever said anything, but I was curious as to what everyone else does."

That was my ORIGINAL POST.  I wanted to know what any other MT in the field did regarding expletives.  I didn't ask you to judge my character.  I didn't need anyone telling me to "put my big girl panties on."  All I was looking for was for you all to tell me what you did in that situation.  I guess it makes you feel good to pound on a person rather than address the inital question - if that's what you need to do, then so be it.  I am not new to the field.  Been an MT for over 10 years and have never typed an expletive, though it hasn't come up often.  Found this board and am mostly a lurker and thought I would finally run it by some others.  Should have just kept it to myself.  No wonder I like being an MT - you don't have to deal with other people very often.

Go ahead and feed the piranhas if that's what gets you through your day.

Bad. Good pay, but bad accounts and rude people
stay away IMO
I know people who have not had such good luck online
But good for you!!!
Good 4U! Fellow people-pleaser here LOL.nm

Thank you, sounds like you work for good people....
I think no matter where you go it has its little ups and downs. Have a good day and thank you for responding.
Of course, it is only as good as the people entering the data...
Also, when computers make mistakes, or are hit with malicious worms or viruses, etc., it could be devastating, could it not?

Also, more and more lately we are noticing actually a lot more mistakes with things that are automated, and once there is an error, it has been extremely difficult to get it corrected. Such as - errors at the DMV (?), errors in our car computer (? - again, it is always a mystery when trying to get things fixed), lets see, then there is the mixup with our phone number that belongs to about three other people (still not fixed because we are told it is all done on computer (?)...

Also, who takes responsiblity when there is an error, because with everything automated, there seems to be little or no accountability - you can hardly get through to real people in a lot of businesses today.

The idea of technology is awesome; however human error will always have an affect...

my humble opinion and just an observation. most information still has to be entered by humans. perhaps we will be obsolete.
Good advice but some people refuse to
split "amicably." I know for a fact in my case it would be a blame game and a huge mess. Been there many times and resorted to other ways of handling it. I wonder if what you suggested would still work for me?

Not the OP but helped by your advice.

Thanks,
me
Good advice. I wish more service IT people (sm)
that I have met were more helpful. They should realize that faster PCs = happier and more productive MTs = more $$$ for company and maybe an increase in his own pay! KWIM?
I have had the good, the bad and the ugly in QA people in the past sm
It shapes the way I do my job, on both sides of the equation.

Right now, I am teaching an MT to do acute care with my feedback. I must be doing something right (she is too and trying very hard) because she is progressing so nicely. She does rad too and she said that my help is making her a better rad MT as well.

I so rarely send anything to QA at my other FT job and I had to send one yesterday, the first in over a month! I was so p o 'd, but the doctor threw some obscure equipment at me and I had 7 blanks, but that was for only 3 words I could not document well enough to suit me. My favorite QA gal grabbed it and gave me some feedback on the words and she went on to tell me what a good job I did (not!) because she said that most MTs have 10 to 20 blanks for this same doctor. I almost never have a blank with him, but this one time...it was a complex lower extremity interventional vascular procedure and I am not up on the equipment for those just yet with the switch to cardiovascular from OP notes. I felt like a fool, but she was great.

I have some really awful ones and there is one in particular who comes to mind because of her extremely condescending and childish manner. I actually have the QA position for a gal who was fired because of a similar attitude problem.

As QA, we are around to be the MT's safety net. We here for an extra set of ears so that the document is as full and correct as possible. Providing feedback helps an MT so that the quantity of their work going to QA will diminish. If you really want a justification for your existence as a QA, it is in the number of blanks you fill in and low numbers of jobs you have to review. IT IS NOT a promotion! IT IS NOT job advancement! It is using the knowledge you have gained to help others.

I can sort of understand the attitude because MTs seem to be having more issues with quality than they used to, or so it seems to me. The quality most lacking is a sincere wish to do the job well.
Nice people, good price
Well, thank you for that. It's about time we get some decent service and good prices on equipment for the work we do. Maybe things are changing for the better. Do ya think????
Good grief people, what;s up with all this drizzle stuff??

You people are having a real good time condemning me....

Don't you know that you can DEACTIVATE your current OS when you upgrade to the next level?  Obviously not. But then, most people here don't seem to be all that computer literate. I asked a couple of computer questions below which got absolutely NO answer.

Don't go jumping to conclusions that someone is a "scammer" and "ruining it for everyone else" until you do your homework.

Contract/no contract -- same rights
You do not have to have a written contract to take them to court.  All you have to do is to prove you have been providing  work to him, past statements/invoice will do that,  you just fill out the small claims forms and go to court.   But first of all I would personally go in and talk with someone about it.   Could be the office manager/bookkeeper and not the doctor that is not paying you.   He may not know anything about it.   And please do not  make the "joke" as above mentioned, that is very LOW class, tacky and not professional at all.  Especially if you are in a small area -- you need to conduct like a professional.  But call and make an "appointment" to talk with the doctor either in person or through a phone call.  Some doctors do not know what is going on in their office and perhaps the office manager wants to be paid first.  If the doctor does know, then in person or over the telephone inform him that you have no other choice but to pursue the debt just as they would if someone did not pay their bill and if that involves going to small claims court, then that is the route you must take.   Good luck.  I did take one to court without a contract and won.
What I think is so sad is that people may give up good jobs to go there to find out these things all
to late. The newbies can learn and use MQ and move on which they do but of course the clients suffer then with all the people learning on them but this is what MQ causes and when they lose clients with poor quality or people that just throw out work then they caused their own problems. You cant keep good MTs with no work I dont care what incentives you offer because they mean nothing with no work ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I wish people would understand that when MQ hires them.
well oldtime, I'll bet that you have good work ethics. But, people like you are far and few in
6 to 8 MTs only a couple actually work out.  That is an absolute shame, but it's the truth.  How do I know this?  Because I surveyed several services asking the very same question to each and this is what the averages were.  Of course, someone here will whine about how many services I surveyed, were they friend, etc., but I can say with absolute certainty that I was completely fair in my end figures.
Never had this happen either. Email the SH people. They're very prompt with help. Good

Yeah, but good times or bad, people still get sick, hurt
I do mainly pediatric oncology, orthopedics and GI, and it seems to be increasing, not slowing down.
no I'm not first, he tells me so too
My fiance' has informed me many times that his kids will always be first: kids first, me second.  He's been raising them alone for 2 years now so they really take a toll on him (therefore US) emotionally, financially, even physically because his son is mentally handicapped and his daughter is extremely lazy and spoiled...so he is constantly cleaning up messes, doing unneccessary laundry, dishes, etc.  (Could start a whole topic on that alone.)  I have no kids, never been married.  I love his kids but I can't say I'd give my life for them or anything.  In fact, the more I explore our relationship I seriously doubt I will marry this man.  Already he speaks of providing for them with me providing for myself and marriage is a joint effort.  I resent the idea of furnishing a spoiled lifestyle for two kids who are not biologically mine.  He's already mentioned that he'd provide for the kids & money I make could be "our" money.  Well that amounts to me supporting the family, in my opinion....for what he buys the kids could also be used for paying bills, groceries, etc.  Sigh, I think I deserve better...a better life than this.
Exactly right. If no one tells you, you won't know.
nm
I don't think there is anything that tells you

how much RAM any particular process uses.  If you have less than 1056 you don't have enough to be leaving a lot of programs open.

You can run a defrag and that might free up some stuff if you haven't done it in a while.  Running a defrag doesn't allow you to do anything else on your computer though.  I run it when I'm through for the night.

You can do an Msconfig and see if you have hidden programs running in the background and you can disable them from loading on startup.

Something Tells Me That -
Who tells everyone how fantastic their employer is, yet refuses to divulge the name should anyone ask because you fear they'll take your job.

Am I right?

Thought so.

I don't worry about those types of things. I'm secure enough in my skill and knowledge that I'm willing to share info with and help any MT who needs it.

Life's too short for such paranoid delusions.
