VERY when I'm typing, especially in the fall and winter months.  I've tried the the carpal tunnel gloves an they just drive me nuts.  I really just need something soft and warm so my hands stay warm.  Any suggestions?  I've been looking at the Wristies website and I've about decided to buy a pair, but I wanted to get some opinions.  Anyone use Wristies?  How do like them?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  I have to take numerous breaks throughout the day to warm up my hands and it's really irritating.

My MIL has been doing quite a few robot cases at the hospital, and I have never transcribed a report like that, and to those of you who have, how different is a robot surgery than just regular surgery?

How does that grab ya? 

A computer is demanding and getting  more respect than we did for years, cleaning up their sentences, fixing their errors....and generally wiping their noses.

but now that a computer demands STANDARDIZATION....suddenly the docs can find the brain cells and patience to comply.

What a bunch of hooey. 

That just struck me today as I was trying to understand the new mandate that literally takes away my way I have made a living and at 60 years old I get to go try to get hired at this age.

(All I hear on the TV is the "unemployment figures came out today and they are...... yet this govt is continually using computers to do away with meaningful employment for its people)

Exon made a $40.6 billion dollar PROFIT last year.

............and my tax money went to them in the form of  SUBSIDIES........

Unfreakingbelievable.

My cost of living to stay alive food wise, gas wise, electricity wise has gone up because Exon wanted a profit...........and my taxes still went for subsidies. 

I understand some legislators tried to do something about it and BUSH THREATENED A VETO.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before.  It's just too weird and I have worked for doctors (mostly general practice) for 20 years.

My son is 20 and he has these really weird looking discolorations on his left arm. They are flat, pink, scattered and in many different dimensions from the size of a pencil eraser to an actual small squares. They are not raised, don't itch or hurt, but they've just been appearing slowly and are now covering more areas of the arm.

He works in a kitchen at a nursing home, but the spots appeared before he got this job. The nursing home said he needs to have this checked out before he comes back to work on Tuesday (he has tomorrow off).

Rundown on his health history is that he is asthmatic (not enough to be on meds)and coughs a lot. Unfortunately, he is a very heavy smoker and I've been trying to get him to stop. He has cut down, because he's living at our house now and smoking is outside. He doesn't cough as much, but still coughs a lot.

He is 6 foot 4 inches and weighs 135 lbs. He eats constantly and never gains weight, but he's been like this since he was in grade school. He has a confirmed diagnosis of thalassemia and also has symptoms of what may be Marfan's Syndrome.

One last thing is that he had months of unprotected sex with a girl he was in love with until he found out that he wasn't the only one she was sleeping with, so he left her and moved back home for the time being.

Any ideas would be helpful.

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?). 

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

I am currently getting paid per report on one acct and per line on another and hands down...per line always adds up to more money.

From years of experience, there is at least one MT that will tend to skip the longer reports when being paid by the report - if this weren't the case then it might be about the same but just from years of experience it seems there is always one bad apple in the bunch that spoils it for the rest.

When being paid per line, at least when they skip reports they don't want to do - it just means more lines for me and more $$$.

Does anyone else have problems with puffy, stiff hands during the hot weather.  Never bother me in the cold but this heat kills my speed and accuracy.  Anybody have any home remedies that helps.   I feel like the Pillsbury Dough boy with regards to my fingers and hands.   Please don't tell me it is old age setting in.

I swear, every account I've ever worked had one problem dictator.. always female !  One REFUSED to use macros, even on normals.. and she would always make sure she made every report unique, so that we couldn't sneak away with using a macro for her.  Another one spoke a hundred miles a minute.  I remember my first day with her.  She said something several times in her reports and I went crazy trying to figure it out.... lumbar spine ??  supine ??  Turns out she was saying "skip a line" !!  

Voc. Rehab. let me try one out when they were helping me get my ergonomics together, and I knew right away I could never get used to it.  I have rather "fat" fingers, though, and I think that was part of it.  If you have longer, thinner fingers, it might be right up your alley. 

You can rent one (which can then be applied to the purchase price, I think?) for awhile from this site to try it out, rather than outright buying it.

I love ASR (automated speech recognition) aka editing as it's easier on the hands for some (me!!).  It does pay 20% less per line but I'm very fast with editing.  I like it a lot but to each his/her own opinion on it.

I bought a duel-headed lamp with adjustable necks (kind of like the 50's space-age atomic style).  I have it on my desk in front of the keyboard with a lamp head bent over and trained on each hand as I type.  The warmth is wonderful, and it doesn't get in my way at all.  And you can move them up a little if your hands get too warm.  No cumbersome gloves that will slow your speed and accuracy down.
