Are you able to rest your arms?

Posted By: Resting on 2009-04-01

Maybe arm rests? They helped me for a while until I started getting carpal tunnel symptoms from not having my hands properly positioned (due to resting my elbows on my arm rests). Needless to say, got rid of the arm rests and after a while, the pain just went away (both in wrists/hands and shoulders/back). However, I do have quite severe knots if you ever feel my shoulders :)

I wedge a small pillow between me and the armrest on each side for my arms to rest on.

Is this w/the built-in hand rest? Touch was nice, but the rest made my palms achey. Didn't

Need some help. Weird stuff on my son's arms. sm

I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before.  It's just too weird and I have worked for doctors (mostly general practice) for 20 years.

My son is 20 and he has these really weird looking discolorations on his left arm. They are flat, pink, scattered and in many different dimensions from the size of a pencil eraser to an actual small squares. They are not raised, don't itch or hurt, but they've just been appearing slowly and are now covering more areas of the arm.

He works in a kitchen at a nursing home, but the spots appeared before he got this job. The nursing home said he needs to have this checked out before he comes back to work on Tuesday (he has tomorrow off).

Rundown on his health history is that he is asthmatic (not enough to be on meds)and coughs a lot. Unfortunately, he is a very heavy smoker and I've been trying to get him to stop. He has cut down, because he's living at our house now and smoking is outside. He doesn't cough as much, but still coughs a lot.

He is 6 foot 4 inches and weighs 135 lbs. He eats constantly and never gains weight, but he's been like this since he was in grade school. He has a confirmed diagnosis of thalassemia and also has symptoms of what may be Marfan's Syndrome.

One last thing is that he had months of unprotected sex with a girl he was in love with until he found out that he wasn't the only one she was sleeping with, so he left her and moved back home for the time being.

Any ideas would be helpful.

weird stuff on son's arms
I think you need to go to the doctor with your son in the morning -- mostly because you will understand more about what the doctor is saying (because you've been typing this stuff for so long), you'll be able to ask the right questions and be sure it's not passed off as dermatitis which it most certainly is not.
Good luck - let us know.
pityriasis rosea would not be on arms
It only goes all over your trunk. I had it on front and back.

Visualize each hug...parentheses are arms:-)

I'm rooting for 1 top for 2 arms, singular/pleural.

"adductive" (lifting arms away from body)
Doctors are always making words up...sigh.
I've always been partial to a chair with arms
and I'm not sure why.  I don't know where people put their arms with no arm rests.  Would that cause shoulder tiredness?  I don't have an idea for a new one, but I sure need one!
Joint Pain in Arms/Hands/Shoulders
I am just going to relate this story for what it is worth to someone else.

In 2001 I began having problems with my left hand, arm and shoulder. Orthopedist thought it may be the beginnings of carpal tunnel but EMG was neg. It was bad enuf that at times I couldn't pick stuff up and it hurt to type. It waned and waxed. A few years later I began having problems with my hands and the joints in my fingers hurting, along with left shoulder pain. My hands were so bad I could not open a jar at times. Eventually I went to a rheumatologist who told me that I had no visible signs of severe arthritis. All MDs, incl. orthopedist and rheumatologist recommended trying Celebrex, aspirin, etc. The regular stuff. I was resigned to early arthritis like my mother.

Well, one day in late 2004/early 2005 I decide to see a chiropractor for my shoulder because I'd had electro therapy for an injury years ago and thought maybe this would help. I had some adjustments and electro therapy on my shoulder.

I want to tell you -- ALL and EVERY pain in my fingers left and never came back. ALL and EVERY pain running from shoulder to hand stopped. It had to have been some sort of pinched nerve.

Not a single MD had even suggested seeing a chiropractor. And had it not been for my shoulder and my past experience, I never would have thought of it and would still be suffering, possibly with even further damage to the nerve by now.
The few I've done use the robot arms as extra hands &

I like a chair with arms, deep seat and high back (sm)
so I bought a leather chair from Costco about a year ago and have never regretted it.  Think it is made by Lane.  It was a little expensive but since I'm in it for hours a day - sometimes 12 - I figure it was an important investment... plus it is so good looking we often wheel into other parts of house when we need extra seating :)
With short arms, I need chair with shallow seat, good back support and high back. Want arm rests

All I can say is rest when you need it and - sm
listen to the docs.  I, personally, have not had cancer but after dealing with my 5-y/o Wilm's tumor (kidney cancer) this year, our family has been but through the wringer.  Jen handled her chemo great, lost her hair with 2 treatments to go (had 14).  Kids are great about that though, got a little self-conscious but after a few minutes in a new place would forget she had no hair. I got her a couple hats for the sun and for her to feel better too. Painted her head one day, had fun with it.  She had good days and bad of course, but for the most part handled it all very well.  Just had a clean ultrasound and chest x-ray today, yeah!  She looks like a little boy now, with dirty blond hair (was an incredible shade of red before), with now the roots growing a new color, a strawberry blond/red, really pretty.  So if you do lose your hair it may grow in different (probably will).  Jen's was very fine before, now it is a lot thicker, still straight as a board though as it was.  You may lose some weight too, but after chemo is done you will regain it once you get your appetite back.  Best wishes to you and feel free to email !
Just take out 1/3 of the mix so far and add only 2/3 of rest
nm
If she's like the rest of us MTs out there...
She's doing an excellent job and just wishes the docs would WAKE UP and start doing the same. Docs ARE incompetent for the most part, and that's sad. But you go ahead and think they walk on water, honey. When they amputate the wrong leg during your operation, you'll be the first to scream, LAWSUIT!!!!
How is this different from the rest of us?
I haven't said this before, but I've been thinking it.  So the suits only think about the bottom line and the doctors don't care whose jobs go overseas as long as it isn't theirs.  How are we any different?  How many of us cared that textile/garment workers jobs went overseas?  Until the lead paint scare, how many of us cared that toy making jobs were going overseas?  Do we stop buying the latest electronic gadgets, not to mention computers, because they are virtually all made overseas now?  For the most part, we didn't worry about those jobs, so why would anyone care about ours?  Wal-Mart, K-Mart and the other low-price retailers push their suppliers for ever cheaper products, and plants overseas are the best suppliers.  Have we stopped shopping there, or is price all we care about, too?
about themselves? Help the rest of us
I think it is wonderful that you are making so much money. Why don't you help the rest of out and share your secretes? Please...I need all the help I can get at 7 cpl.
The rest of the world
Thinks Americans are suckers. We help everybody, give money away to everybody, and then they all turn on us. I'm beginning to think they are right-- we ARE suckers! Maybe it's time to tell the rest of the world to take care of their OWN people and problems for a change.
Why? Except for the rent all the rest is the same everywhere.

foot rest
So do you put both feet and the pedal on the foot rest?
Foot rest
I also would like to know if anyone has an idea for a foot rest.  I also have swollen feet at the end of the day.  I looked at my daughter-in-law's foot stool for breast feeding and thought it might work since it is slanted.  Off to Google this and see what I can find.
foot rest - sm
I found mine by Googling foot rest. You'll find lots of them, all shapes, sizes, and prices. I think mine came from Fellows, but cannot remember now. I love it. No more backache. Good luck with your search.
rest in peace!!!!

Don't know what it is. :( Can you rest them on a heating pad in your lap before and while

I agree with the rest
Run, do not walk, away from this account.  One day you won't be paid at all.  I would rather not get paid for not working than not get paid because somebody kept the money that I had worked for.
When typing, do you rest your --sm
wrists on the keyboard tray or hold them up in the air?  Am having arm pain and have tried both ways but do not notice any difference.
Get some well-deserved rest (sm)
you are NOT a machine!  Take some time and rest up, especially if you aren't feeling well.  No one should have to endure that in this profession.  Helping out is one thing, being taken advantage of is another.  Get Well Soon!
Would you give it a rest already?
The "compliment" (not complement) was meant for the person who correctly identified this as a pyramid scheme..

And would you give the "His hand was with me" hoo ha a rest? There are plenty who fall for this type of manipulation but I hope that none of them are on this board...

please go troll elsewhere.
OP could do like the rest of us----- research,

OH PLEASE give this a rest!!!
I VOTED FOR CLINTON TWICE so I'm not a hater per se. That said, AFTER the fact I started educating myself about the facts with regard to U.S. POLITICS. Its enough to m ake you RETCH.

BILL CLINTON had plenty of SUPPORT for NAFTA, and WE ALL GOT THE SHAFTA!

Before you start saying Democrats are better than Republicans about this or that issue - do some research: THEY ARE THE SAME party!

THE WEDGE ISSUES ARE THERE JUST TO KEEP YOU DISTRACTED!

BOTH PARTIES ARE CORRUPT TO THE GILLS - why are AMERICANS SO AWARE OF THIS yet also so willing to keep supporting only these 'two' parties!

I just don't get it. If you know you are being scammed, why do you keep buying their lies?

can't speak for the rest of them
I know one MTSO who was going to put on an ad and has backed off with what has been going on with the ownership of the board. I think it's just like the number of postings being down - people are on here but are hesitating because they're not sure if everything is okay. I think if you give it a little more time you'll see more and more ads come back on as people relax about the board again.

Size of foot rest - sm
I got a large one - 17 x 20 - because I have two foot pedals to use (different platforms) and they both fit on it side by side. I can adjust it to slope up from the floor in front to about 3-4 inches (or more if I want) upwards. The top of the foot rest has a rubberized mat to keep the foot pedals in place, and the base of the foot rest is heavy to it doesn't move. The brand is Fellows, and I paid about $49.00 for it...and I think well worth it so far. If you Google foot rests, and look on Shopzilla, you'll find lots of them - different sizes and prices and styles. Hope this helps.
fortunately for the rest of us who dO want to discuss this,

ROFLMAO - I rest my case LOL

I agree with the rest, not worth...sm

Thank you for speaking up. I could never understand why everyone wanted to condemn that poor woman. Seems to me that all the people who wanted to condemn her are the sickos.
Well, my thoughts are right in lines with the rest of you, and also,
something needs to be done about the way the local chapters are run. The same people are constantly voted in by a few select MTs to keep things the way they want them. New MTs coming into the chapter have no input at all. The AAMT needs to govern those locals a little more closely.
I'd count it too via 65-char just as you are doing the rest - sm
especially since you print it out, ink costs money, as does paper.
