Zeshan Ahmed from Pakistan. He posted it right here. I have zero comfort
this website. I can't believe you would be.
So then this board is now owned by Dr. Zeshan Ahmed from Pakistan? Do I understand you correctly?
So this is NOT AN AMERICAN BOARD ANYMORE?
IC is a rip off if you are an honest person.

Is anyone going to respond to this Dr. Ahmed? I am kind of afraid to. Do not know who to believe.

There is probably less chance of your ID being stolen in Pakistan than the United States, where I had my stolen.
I'm sure India, Pakistan, Philippines...
and perhaps a few others.  But the WORLD...no....not even most healthcare providers in the U.S.A.  If you really believe what you said, you've have been misled.

No, I'm not Sheri.......but........
You asked this on a public forum. Do you honestly not expect any kind of response from others? Are you so single-minded that you actually believe that? Gimme a break.

You may choose to celebrate or not celebrate Christmas Day as most living humans do. That is certainly your choice. No one told you NOT to. So, why in the world would you post something like this, in this period of goodwill toward our fellow man, here?

Why must there always be someone who wants to start a conflict? Can we at least call a truce for Christmas, for Pete's sake? (And, yes, I know Pete and he has given me permission to use his name involving "sake"!)

Sheeesh.......
Thank you, Sheri.
There is so much subterfuge and backstabbing with some of our jobs these days, that it is rare and refreshing to have someone come and explain their views in a professional and thoughtful manner.  You are right, I guess it is inevitable that offshoring is here to stay...it just makes me feel really sad when I see what has happened to our industry.  We never did really receive the recognition that we deserve for the complexity of our profession and now, any faint remainder of dignity is completely gone.  I am just downhearted about the whole state of affairs.  Where does one go after wasting 30 years of one's life in a dead-end job?  I'm tired of fighting for the respect that never did materialize after all....
Thank you Sheri for not catering in....sm

to the small percentage of people that have decided to try to take CHRIST out of Christmas.  Gimme a break.  I got an e-mail from a friend who recommends that everyone who believes it should be CHRISTMAS, not "happy holidays" or "holiday tree" etc. to send the ACLU a  CHRISTMAS card and tell them to leave our holidays alone.  Their address is: 125 Broad Street, 18th Floor New York, NY 10004

If people who want to celebrate CHRISTMAS flood them with cards then they'll have to open them - after all, they want to see if there are donations in them, correct?  Let them spend some employee time opening cards!  Also I wonder if the ACLU employees are required to work on Christmas?  How about New Year's?  After all - I'm sure that with every federally recognized holiday that someone out there is *offended" and therefore the ACLU should never be closed right???

For anyone who reads this and is offended by CHRISTMAS -  I supposed you're volunteering to work on December 25th so that those who do celebrate it can take off correct?  I get tired of people stating they don't think we should celebrate CHRISTMAS but yet they're often times the first people to request to be off on December 25th.  Double standard!

I'll get off my soapbox now and get the fingers moving again!

Thanks Sheri for your good
old-fashioned values.  We need more of the same.  Hooray.
Question for Sheri (only)

I am only interested in her response, since she is the moderator, and it is her response that will decide what I do next.

If I respect anyone who celebrates December 25th as a religious holiday, will I receive the same courtesy in return (to not celebrate it as a religious holiday)?

I haven't celebrated December 25th as a religious holiday since I was a kid. I don't see it that way. I've also used the "Xmas" spelling since my early 20s, along with the spelling of G*d, and "JC."

Will I be allowed to post my messages with these spellings, or can I expect them to be blasted (like last year) or deleted?

Like I said ... I'm not denying anyone the right to believe as they do. I'm only asking the same courtesy in return.

Sheri from MT stars

Sheri, I just wanted to let you know that I have not received an e-mail giving me a chance to draw from the gift bag.  I made a donation using paypal on December 2nd and have not heard anything.  I do have the reference number for verification.

I had an issue with an MTSO who had ads on this board. I contacted Sheri (board owner), who made haste in getting in touch with the MTSO. As a result, I was paid today.

Is there a reason you answered for Sheri

I think *that* shows a lack of respect for someone. I also said Sheri ONLY was to answer the question (because she is the administrator of the board).

And in terms of "when in Rome do like the Romans do ..." Just call Rosa Parks.

Hurrah for you, Sheri. I agree!!!!

Sheri, can you at least file a claim

VA IT security gaps extend to contractors
06/14/06 -- 04:15 PM
By Mary Mosquera,

Rep. Buyer: Department CIO needs IT security enforcement authority

The Veterans Affairs Department said today that it has been investigating allegations that an offshore medical transcription subcontractor last year threatened to expose 30,000 veterans’ electronic health records on the Internet in a payment dispute with a VA contractor.
The VA assistant inspector general referred to the investigation during questioning in a congressional hearing on VA’s data security environment in the wake of the theft of sensitive data of 26.5 million veterans, active duty military and reserves officers.

The medical transcription incident highlights how gaps in information security also extend to contractors, said Michael Staley, VA’s assistant inspector general for auditing. Some VA medical transcription contractors have used offshore subcontractors in India and Pakistan without VA’s approval and without adequate controls to ensure veterans’ health information was secure under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, according to an audit released today.

“Contracts do not specify criteria for how to protect information,” Staley told the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

Staley enumerated audits of information management security under the Federal Information Security Management Act, the Consolidated Financial Statement and Combined Assessment Program that revealed significant vulnerabilities. These include VA not controlling and monitoring employee access, not restricting users to only the data they need and not terminating accounts of departing employees in a timely manner.

In last year’s FISMA review, the IG provided 16 recommendations, including addressing security vulnerabilities of unauthorized access and misuse of sensitive information and data throughout VA demonstrated during its field testing. All 16 recommendations remain open, he said.

Audits also found instances where out-based employees send veterans’ medical information to the VA regional office through unencrypted e-mail; monitoring remote network access and usage does not routinely occur; and off-duty users’ access to VA computer systems and sensitive information is not restricted.

“VA has implemented some recommendations for specific locations identified but has not made corrections VA-wide,” he said.

From fiscal years 2000 to 2005, the IG identified IT and security deficiencies in 141, or 78 percent, of 181 Veterans Health Administration facilities reviewed, and 37, or 67 percent, of the 55 Veterans Benefits Administration facilities reviewed.

“We recommended that VA pursue a more centralized approach, apply appropriate resources and establish a clear chain of command and accountability structure to implement and enforce IT internal controls,” Staley said.

The underlying situation is the VA’s department CIO does not have authority to enforce compliance with data security and information management and recommendations from GAO, said Veterans Affairs Committee chairman Steve Buyer (R-Ind.).

Buyer traced problems in security enforcement to a memo dated April 2004 from the general counsel that said the department CIO did not have enforcement authority.

The CIO, undersecretaries who lead VA’s benefits, health and burial administrations, and the VA secretary share responsibility for enforcement, said Gregory Wilshusen, director of information security issues for the Government Accountability Office.

“Information security is a governmentwide problem, and we have talked with OMB about that,” said Linda Koontz, director of GAO’s information management issues.

Buyer expressed frustration that there are no consequences for “recalcitrant” agencies that do not correct problems that GAO has repeatedly highlighted. He cited the Privacy Act, which has been strengthened with consequences.

“If you have a bureaucracy so strong in the department that the secretary or political bodies are unable to act, don’t you think the president or vice president or OMB needs to know that because there are monetary consequences behind that inaction? I’m bothered that GAO doesn’t have the higher authority to which they can turn,” Buyer said after the hearing.

After several more hearings this month, Buyer and his committee will make recommendations or craft legislation. He suggested that Congress consider looking at strengthening FISMA.

“We can even come up with that in our language, but we’re not going to have jurisdiction over that. We’ll have to work with Mr. Davis [House Government Reform Committee chairman Tom Davis (R-Va.)] and his committee. I’d be more than happy to do that,” he said.

I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is

if that is all they WANT to type.   Is the person who wants to be a supervisor willing to make up for those people?

You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones.   Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.

I got the cool T-shirt! Thank you, Sheri. It was a pleasure to participate. SM

I commend you on making the world a better place!

I am assuming you are talking about Sheri. What answers of hers are not lining up?
What info do you have that I do not or others? Never heard of you either, American regular MTstarser??? Strange posted by if you ask me.
I disagree. I think the site was sold to Sheri and she was screwd
deleted because the new guy doesn't want people to think maybe she's right and he isn't. I still think if Sheri put her phone number on her site then maybe she's telling the truth.
I've read the statement; think sheri sat on this and lost it for both of them out of spite
matches her personality.
When you have a QA person that is picky and another QA person that is very lenient where does that
leave the MTs because some are getting a lenient reviewer and others are getting one that picks at everything. How do you reconcile that issue with the difference in QA mentality. Some people make out well and the other people could be just as good but dont. I wonder about that.
The person MTSO pays is the person who

I liked it all, to be honest!
I felt like their pay was comparable to other big companies, I liked their benefit package. I worked with very nice people and the platform I was on was good.  I didn't mind the clocking in and out.  The only reason I left was because I was offered another opportunity outside the world of MTs at home (working in-house) which I couldn't pass up.
To be quite honest, I really don't know. sm
I don't think it did but I used Roundup a week later to kill the bindweed which did kill the grass, but I don't think the bug spray killed it. Either way, I just used it about three inches around the perimeter of the house and most of what I have around my house is perennial plants, not all grass, and they are still alive. LOL--only the bindweek and creeping charlie are dead from the Roundup.
Just be honest!
I am sure when you explain your paid by production situation you will be excused, no more to it. Good luck!
to be honest...

Every QA I've ever come across has never admitted that they were wrong even with proof.  I've never seen it.  I do believe they believe they do no wrong.  Just my opinion of course from my own experience.

Being honest
I would love to say, but I am sure the message would just vanish again.
Still, they could at least be honest about it, and - sm
instead of just the rubber-stamp *you failed* reply to those they didn't hire, maybe they should at least let a qualified person know that:
a) The job was filled before their application was processed.
b) They lost the application.
c) They didn't want to pay this experienced applicant what she was worth.
d) And so on.....
To be honest

It might be worth your while to take a course with a reputable MT teaching course.  You are going to be more and more frustrated and it just won't get much better.

Be careful and try to find a good course, then attempt going out in the world again.
