My guess is much higher.
I would say at least 100; 25 who can read, another 25 who can comprehend what they read; another 25 to articulate what the ones with reading comprehension can understand and try to express, and another 25 to type and proof, at least.
So much for no higher taxes of

any kind for 95% of the American people.  This is just going to kill the people who are already struggling to make ends meet.  Not to mention the high prices that will come if they get cap and trade passed.  Why don't people in Washington get this?  All they talk about are the sacrifices that we are all going to have to make and they do nothing but keep spending.  Where is the sacrifice on their end, huh?  We need to fix this economy and stop the constant spending by our government.

I'm so sick and tired of this.  I work to make money and they are just going to take more and more of what I earn.  I've always been responsible with my money and have excellent credit but how I am going to continue to make ends meet if this keeps up?  It is pretty sad when responsible people are scared this will bring them down as well.  I guess the rich will just have to pay for everything because there won't be a middle class left the rate things are going.

Sigh. They pay a higher percentage because they
thousands of times more wealth than each average Joe (and I DO NOT mean the plumber). We have a progressive tax system here, American as apple pie, and Obama only wants to adjust the rate back to where it was were 8 years ago....no socialist subversion in that. We all managed to survive the economic boom of the 90s, after all.

Furthermore, before pronoucing any judgements on this issue, check out the disparities in the (here comes that CAPITALIST phrase again) distibution of wealth in the US. If you do not want to research this yourself, just say so and I will post that information for the UMPTEENTH time.

Now, before you go off, Wikipedia is not the Communist Manifesto. Go to the link and scroll down a little better than halfway and read the section on the United States. If you are in the middle class, the information there will make your blood boil.

it's a lot higher percentage than McCain's - nm

too many people = higher premiums?!
Wow, not that I want to spend all week talking about insurance, but I'm really amazed by things I'm hearing. The whole point of insurance is to lower your individual cost by adding in lots and lots of people. If you and I are the only ones who have insurance, and you have a heart attack, I'm effectively paying half your bill, right? But if we could average that bill over millions and millions of people, it'd be much easier to bear.

The ideal situation, then, would be for everybody in the country to have insurance, so we could average the costs over 300 million people. (This would also lead to a better ability to negotiate drug prices, and encourage hospitals not to spend millions on useless equipment like surgical robots that drive the costs skyward.)

Read Obama's plan, or Baucus', or Kennedy's, or Wyden's, and you'll find that people who can't afford even those new low premiums, are helped out with subsidies, NOT FINED. It's far, far cheaper to help subsidize poor people's premiums, than it is to have them show up to the ER for every cold and flu symptom, you know? Not to mention that they'll then be able to get preventative care, and not so many of them will wind up with horribly costly illnesses down the road, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

Affordable health care isn't just an easy fix, it's a moral one. And it has been tried a million times--I think Truman was actually the first president to suggest it. But you and I don't have the kind of lobbying money that big pharma has, that the doctors have, that every other player has, and they have worked for *decades* to keep Americans from getting the healthcare system they deserve.
you think only 3 have been tortured, I think the number is much higher....sm
That might be the reason that the former administration wanted to keep them forever imprisoned, so that they cannot talk!
Higher taxes are not my interest, neither is giving.
@
So you think you're exempt from higher taxes?
nm
yeah, of higher taxes for all -kind of change we can

JTBB - If you find a higher-level forum where
intellect is respected and informed debate is possible, please post that info a time or 2. I'm looking for a spot like that myself and this sure ain't it.
Combined income or small business making 120,000 or higher
will be taxed big time instead of the 250,000.  It could down lower to where anyone making 42,000 or higher will be taxed big time.  He keeps changing his mind, but we will for sure see if he wins.
Posible new "boon" to the economy? Higher minimum wages??.....PSM
I was just thinking, we did a lot of discussion yesterday about welfare reform, the bloated welfare roles that we have now, and how to end it.  How about passing a DECENT, HONEST, REALISTIC minimum wage act that is based on the present economy, the proposed future economay, and will make it more profitable for an American to get a fair-paying job on which he can feed his family, pay his REASONABLE mortgage, pay his bills, etc., instead of having the minimum wage so low that it is actually more profitable for many families to say on welfare, medicaide, and food stamps, along with subsidised housing AND NOT have to juggle three low-paying jobs to do it?  Don't you think that if American workers felt they were more faily paid, were being compensated fairly for their efforts, and would bring home enough wages each week to live within comfortable means, that more and more folk would jump off the roles and into a job (of course, we first need the part of the stimulus package to address keeping our companies solvent and employing).  Just a thought!!!
No, actually I don't have a double standard...sm
But there is one, especially since Bush and Co. made such a big deal about flip flopping in '04. I remember the exact words from the debate about Kerry. *Kerry was for it [the war] before he was against it.*

I guess the same applies to Bush on the immigration bill that he was for. Again, just sayin'.
Won't be waiting around for your standard
nm
That should be our standard response to Sam! (nm)
No soup for you!
Double standard, indeed.
It all depends on whose ox is being gored.
No double standard
We're not forcing your children to pray or even attend church. Our children are being forced to have homosexual teachers teach them this crap and even have "Days of Silence" to "honor" a perverted practice. Our children can't even mutter the word "God" without getting expelled. Double standard--my asscream.
No double standard here. I am not a

religionist.  I practice no religion.  Christianity is not a religion.  It is a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Put down religion all you want.  I'll agree with you.

Want to tackle Catholicsm?  Islam?  Hindu?  Buddhism?  Scientology?  Global warming?  Emergent church?  Contemplative spirituality?  Any other of the myriad religions?

Okay...let's talk about the double standard...
on both sides of the aisle. Let's talk about Teddy Kennedy. Let's talk about several members of the Kennedy family where influence peddling got them out of more severe cases than you are describing here. He is still in the senate and will be until the day he dies, probably. It is funny to me how people can see the splinter in the other guy's eye but not the timber in their own.

What about the Clinton double standard? What about the Obama double standard of dealing with a slum lord (and knowing it) and at the same time castigating other slum lords in Chicago? That seems pretty hypocritical to me, but I avoided it until the tear up Cindy McCain stuff started. You guys act as if the McCains invented using wealth to get out of legal problems. I refer you again to the Kennedys...

Good grief, people.
I see the double standard is alive and well....
I see.
I was just illustrating the double standard....
which is glaring. Obama's pastor doesn't matter but hers does...and try to justify it by saying Republicans are in the spotlight this week. Good grief....do you hear yourself? lol
Labor not held to same standard as
other parties in the negotiations, i.e., double standard. During the debates on TARP funds, aside from the parachutes, when were white collar salaries ever examined?
GetSmart used to say....it's the old "double standard" sm
missed it by....that much....

Let's see if I can get this straight..... if anyone called your candidate, "young, black, shiny, blemish-free guy (or....aka nappy headed young black guy)...."

(and by the way, I'm black, so I can say it....another double standard, huh.....)

wait a minute, wait a minute...wait.....that means we're racist...but you're not?

You're so full of left wing *people eater sheater* it comes pouring out in all your posts, vile and nasty.....is your outhouse all full up, and out of the Sears catalogue....hmmmmmm????

danger, will robinson, danger.......

bwahahahahahahaha......

your mission, Jim, if your willing to accept it, is to hit the enter key on this post.....otherwise, this tape will self destruct in 5 seconds.....5,4,3,2,1

oh.......nevermind....please disregard.....you wouldn't know a joke if it hit you on the you know whats it...
There's that pesky double standard again.....nm
nm
You're right, it is a double standard.
They should ALL have term limits.
JTBB is all about the double standard
In JTBB's world, a conservative has no rights!

Doesn't the double standard bother you?
It's not her addiction that bothers me it's the stealing and the double standard by her husband. McCain puts other people in jail and rips apart families for drug crimes. I bet there are at least 100 infants in foster care in AZ right now because their mom tested +.

Standard beautiy queen boilerplate
Most Americans don't have maps.

She stumbled on, saying that our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us.

and such.

Must be not. Double standard applies. Crickets.

I don't think I understand the double standard here for Palin...

Palin says Obama is "just" a community organizer and unqualified for the job, but we aren't supposed to say anything about her unbelievable lack of knowledge.  She showed that all by herself w/o the help of the campaign.

She tried to tie Obama to terrorists and says he's a socialist, marxist, and I don't even know what all else.  And yet she should not have any scrutiny when she has video out there of her with the witch doctor.

Fox News can take a video of a fist bump between PRESIDENT-ELECT Obama and his wife and call it some kind of terroist signal, and MSNBC is not supposed to point out just how ridiculous this is?

Fox News, yet again strikes and plasters a bottom of the screen banner over video of Michelle Obama calling her a "baby mama," and we aren't supposed to question Palin's fifth child that was soooo questionable.

If you want to be mad at somebody about talking about Sarah Palin, try the republican party.  They are the ones who ruined her.  They are the ones talking about how much her clothes were.  They are the ones talking about the show up at the door in a towel incident.

I didn't hear any of you complaining when there was a joke about Obama....what's up with that?

Double standard is right... and loves to call other
nm
Nope, and I realize trying to point out the double standard...
to a Democrat is an exercise in futility but I thought I would give it a shot....
Yeah, the double standard is pretty amazing. nm

Double standard doesn't cover Obama

where im currently living is okay... but
Nevada is hit HARD. South Carolina is doing fine as far as i can tell, but ive only been here two months.

my problem is my mortgage is in Nevada... so in turn, im not doing so great either.

hope everyone is doing as good as they can!
WOW! Then you are definitely living

in the wrong place and at the wrong time.  Because from here on, you'll be told exactly what to do and when, and probably how you're supposed to feel about it.

Told what amount of money it is 'seemly' for you to earn, how much you MUST surrender to maintain the lifestyles of others, and how much you may be permitted to keep - if you promise to spend it properly.  Told how much energy it is politically correct for you to use (please drive an approved vehicle) and what modern conveniences it is more 'green' to do without.  Told not to think too much: 'The science is settled.  The debate is over.'  Told what medical tests and procedures it will be proper for you to receive and which (so very sorry) it would be better for society as a whole for you to forego, because there is only so much to go around.  Told for your own good what to eat and taxed extra on the improper items you choose.  (Unless, apparently, you receive food stamps, in which case limiting your choice would be unnecessarily judgmental.)

Perhaps some will see all this as gentle correction from a benevolent parent, but this micromanagement sneaking in incrementally cloaked in a smily face will not really make me feel better about being told what to do.

They ain't living unless they are being condescending

and down right vulgar (hence the expletives tonight).  You're right.. the only time they have anything going here is when we come over.  They have nothing constructive to talk about when they aren't looking down their noses at conservatives who question their statements or bashing Bush.  It's a big yawnfest

That's why I'm using the moniker leftist/lib basher.  The best way to rile them up is to call them by what they call themselves.  Oh, wait a minute.  They're progressives now.  They'll be progressives until we call them that then they'll say we're calling them names and change it again.  Yes, they have tender widdle feelings.

What I do for a living is immaterial...
although since I post on this forum it should be obvious I am in the transcription industry. What is to you if I reply to every post? Did I miss the meeting where that was outlawed or you were named moderator?

What makes you think I don't put my energy toward making a difference? Whether I do or not is also immaterial...and with all due respect...none of your business.

Do you not believe in freedom of speech? If you don't like my posts, don't read them.

Your living in your own little world
Anyone who doesn't believe this is happening are living in their own world. Am sure you probably believe what the government tells you also. We are living in end times, however, the religious fanatics need to cool it as a lot of people don't believe in the "left behind" garbage that is spewed. Another prime example of lies to keep the people preoccupied.
Some of us have to make a living.
Got kids. Need to cook and clean and transcribe, balance the checkbook, pay bills, clip coupons and grocery shop, feed the kitties, watch news and fact check to stay informed. Chat room cat fights are low priority for me, especially with posters like yourself and sam, unlike those who stay ready to pounch 24/7.
i saw that too. she is living proof
that a fetus is more than a glob of cells.
For those that feel that way, try living in another
A country that has been divided and divided again but still always one trying to overthrow the other. Remember Georgia? Russian leaders can't leave them alone. Georgia separated and became their own country but still their neighbors want to continually cause them trouble..... the U.S. can't go that way unless you don't mind that kind of war in your own back yard.

You need to do some history study of nations that have split and all they do is war, not because the majority of people don't want peace, but because they leaders of each individual country always seems to be greedy and want to rule EVERYONE, not just their own country.
What does living in the northeast have to do with anything...
it's expensive pretty much anywhere you live. Put your kids to work if they are old enough, especially if they go to school, to help pay for that expensive food bill.
And those of us who are conservative are living in fear that...
our courts will further erode our society to the point that everything goes.  Heck, one third of the country already has to live with the notion that their 12-year-old can consent to an abortion without our knowledge (thanks to the 6th circuit court in California, legalize gay marriage without letting "we the people" decide how we want our society (yes, 78% of Americans are against it), and I could go on and on.  Do you like the fact that another priviate citizen can now take your property just because HIS use of that property would generate more income for the government?  Sounds like socialism is rapidly becoming fascism to me.  You can thank the imminent domain decision to those wonderful progressives on the court.  Yes, let's hope we get another Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the court so our country can continue it's slide down the toilet.
Well, Mr. Clinton isn't living too shabbily himself
I think you better step back and rethink some of your claims before you say that Republicans are the only ones living in luxury etc. A funeral is a funeral not a political soapbox. Carter and Kennedy ought to be ashamed of themselves for making a memorial service into a political bash fest of the President who was sitting right there. How classless. You're absolute hatred of Bush is coming through to the fact that you can't see the mockery that was made of Mrs. King's funeral.

President Carter should be embarassed, but I don't think embarassment is a trait of liberals anymore.

Camera face time, and bashing Bush that's all that matters to them. They are blinded to decorum.
It must be nice living in ignorance. sm
You are certainly entitled to your opinion; however, you don't speak for any  majority anywhere.  None of us do.  You have obviousy not done any research at all into what adult or embryonic stem cell research can and cannot do, what they wish to do, and the dire consequence that have been predicted for stem cell research, including brain tumors.
looks like a bunch of sheep to me living in USA..sm

hmmmmm....?  Just because everyone is voting for Barack doesn't make any of it right - they all are bad candidates to some of us......
