When George W. Bush and the Christian Reich took control of the most powerful country in the world, The United States of America, a very dangerous virus began spreading throughout the country.
The virus: Christian Fascism.
This lethal threat to democracy is now infecting the world, ie...the invasion and occupation of Iraq.
To understand the Right Wing Zealots, it is important to acquire an understanding of what it means to be a religious addict. The following identifies important signs of religious addiction:

Condensed 'Characteristics of a Religious Addictive System.' Dr. Thomas Edgington is the principle author and contributed 90% of the following:
God is seen as impersonal and vindictive: members tend to have a grace- deficit theology. (Their religion and experience are based totally on fear, not on relief.)
Emphasis on theological correctness to the neglect of relationships and of loving others.
Demonstrates a spiritual arrogance [considers those from outside as less spiritual].
You will hear comments like I pride myself on my humility.
Majors on minor theological issues and ignores or minimizes major ones.
Scripture is said to be of primary importance, but in reality it is the leader's interpretation of Scripture that has primary importance.
Traditions often overrule Biblical truth.
Scripture is often misquoted, used out of context, or is degraded to the level of trite, pat answers in order to prove a point or to exact obedience to a system.
Intellectual development is limited to what fits the system; we think the way we do because we are right; the thoughts and opinions of others are not considered.
Dogmatism is common: the point under discussion is often explained by the quotation of a Bible verse, again, usually out of context.
Members attempt to impose their personal opinions upon outsiders or upon those still within the system but under suspicion.

Leadership is viewed as infallible and beyond reproach.
Undue/over-emphasis upon submission to authority.
Expression of certain emotions, particularly anger, is seen as unspiritual.
Low self image, hyperactive conscience, undue guilt, and an inability to forgive, either others or oneself is very common.
Communication often centers around theological issues; personal issues are rarely discussed. When they are, two phenomena find expression: shredding people,setting up and knocking down straw men.
Interpersonal intimacy is often lacking.
Poor ability to relate to hurting people; offers pat answers instead of demonstrating loving care (2.)
Religious Addiction preys on the Weak and Vulnerable
After reading and processing the above characteristics of a religious addict, it is very to easy to find incidents of religious addictions since George W. Bush took power:
A while ago, I was watching the news stories about the Ten Commandments Monument being removed from a Government building in the United States. As I watched the protests, I thought how twisted right wing Christian zealots are; the way they whined and moaned lying on the ground reminded me of a religious addicted cult. There is so much hate and mental defects within the Christian Coalition. It is scary.
It is important for all countries to separate government from Organized Religion. Christian Right Wing Organized Religion is a very dangerous political institution. They have decided how people should live and those choosing a different way of life are viewed as deviant or enemies.
When looking at two men, George W. Bush and Mel Gibson, it is easy to see how dangerous Religious addiction can be to the rest of the population. Both these men are recovered drug addicts and drunks. What lead to their recovery was replacing their chemical addictions with Christian addiction. Like a cult, Christian Extremists target people when they are at their weakest; both men have weak minds which made them easy prey. They should not be respected, but looked at as very weak little creatures.
As President of the United States, the mentally feeble man, George W. Bush, has been given the power to flex his religious addicted muscles: supported challenging affirmative action, proposal to ban gay marriage, increase funding to religious groups that help alcoholics and drug addicts recover, invading and taking over Iraq, funding the promotion marriage (push women in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, eh Georgie?)
The Christian Right seeks to oppress those who don't conform to their way of life. In order for society to evolve, Right Wing Religion must be kept out of positions of political power.
Religious addicted Mel Gibson is now a right wing fundamentalist. He believes he knows God personally, and has a whole lot of money, giving him the power to push his beliefs on the rest of us. There is nothing more dangerous than a rich right wing fundamentalist. About Mel Gibson's movie, The Passion of the Christ, Movie Reviewers and News Commentators did not have the courage to give Mel Gibson's movie a real review. It is probably like during the invasion of Iraq; people who spoke against it were intimidated, and the media was very biased toward the bullies.
Religious addiction is a serious mental illness in our society. Religious addicts, when given power, have the ability to do some serious damage to the world and its species.

mags, watching AL Gore movies. You really are being disingenous here. There are 692 scientists who have declared that global warming is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on humanity. Now, we are talking scientists with pedigress a mile long after their names. You make that insidious claim that the ice caps are melting, and yes, they are, like they usually do, but you neglect to speak to the fact that as they melt, bigger ice caps form that are not melting.
If you have the intelligence to read the report on Fox News, you will see that this is a UN initiative that has been in the works for years. It goes right along with their plan to strip property rights, huddle the masses in "villages," and only those in power will be the land owner barons.

Sure it would be great for emissions if the world drove hydrogen vehicles - but have you checked the cost of maintaining the hydrogen vehicle? The cost of replacing a fuel cell battery?
Where does hydrogen come from? Water, natural gas, plants, coal, other fossil fuels are big sources - all expensive and coveted, and potentially in short supply. To produce no pollution it must be pure hydrogen - and you must have enough electricity to separate the hydrogen from say water, without using fossil fuels. The electrical generating capacity in the country will have to double in order to take on the demands of transportation, and then it will all have to convert from fossil fuels to renewable sources.
A lot of sacrifice of comfort and convenience will have to take place - I'm willing do it, how about the rest of the world?
The DOE is funding a billion to produce a hydrogen car - but it will be years away and the expense out of reach for most folks. Recently Obama's cut hydrogen fuel cell funding in the 2010 budget. Such vehicles for now anyway will remain the toys of celebrities and folks who can afford one to run around the neighborhood.
Also, factor in the cost of extracting and producing hydrogen, and the fact that the rest of the car from tires to dashboard, and almost everything we touch in the modern world, is produced from oil - a hydrogen car will do little to reduce pollution. The main problem with hydrogen-powered fuel cells involves the storage and distribution of hydrogen - which no one has answered yet, not on the scale of the masses. And who will build the refueling stations if there are no customers? Who will buy the vehicle if there is no where to refuel? Or if you can plug your care in your garage - is that coal firing the electric plant?
Have you seen the Mini Cooper? It is 5-1/2 feet wide and 4-1/2 feet in height. There's a reason it's called mini.
The best way to stop pollution is curb consumption - and that doesn't seem to be on the political agenda in any nation.

I'm sorry about your husband's illness but
sky high health care is something that affects all of us. My husband and I, retirees, for Medicare and medical supplement plus drug coverage pay right at $800 per month in premiums. We know other retirees who pay more than that. No one seems able to see that much of this health care cost is due to several things: Used to be that doctors had private practive and hospitals were not for profit. Is it any wonder that now that hospitals are for profit, they get greedier and greedier?
Everyone (and everyone doesn't necessasrily mean YOU) has their hand out for a handout. People waiting for those Obama free money checks they think will feather their nest. Well, I think they'd do well to keep their day job....or get one...because I don't think the free money is going to be forthcoming.
We need to go back to something called personal responsibility to start with.

we all get frustrated on here from time to time. As far as Obama picking pubs for positions, there's the sec of defense, Robert Gates, and Lahood for transportation, and I think a few others. Someone said something about the pubs being picked are just token pubs, but I think if he is just going for token picks, it wouldn't be for sec of defense. I think this pick said a lot about Obama and his intentions.
I really do hope that he does listen to pubs as well as dems. As a poster mentioned earlier, there are good ideas in both parties. I'm not trying to paint a rosy picture here, but we really need to find some kind of common ground, and I think (whether successful or not) Obama is trying to create that kind of environment.
BTW, I like Rachel Maddow much better too. She isn't as blatant as Olberman, but she is a little sarcastic. LOL. I picked Olberman's video because it showed Obama going to the dinner as I was counting on someone to say that it didn't happen because it wasn't in conservative news. While I do think Olberman is funny at times, I mostly just go with the quotes and video he presents and kind of tune the commentary out.

and I did not mean to be insulting. But...unless democratic platform principles have changed and now include redistribution of wealth, I do know the difference. Redistribution of wealth is socialist bordering on Marxist, and Obama has already said he was going to do it, in the form of the government taking the profits of a business and redistributing that money to people who did nothing to earn it. That is a dangerous precedent and starts headlong down the slippery slope of far left socialism. That has nothing to do with a kinder, gentler America taking care of each other.
Also...with all ue respect...social programs have run amok in this country and the main thing they have done is destroy ambition and the will to better oneself, ideals that made this country great. That hard work can move you up in the world...and it can.
And it has gotten to the point that the middle tax has been taxed into the "poor" class, trying to pay for all the social programs. I looked at the list of what Obama says he will do. If he does do those things, he will have to raise taxes, and not just on people who make $250,000 a year or more. And if you think about it logically...many of the small businesses in this country are at that income threshold. But just because you make $250,000 on paper does not mean you get home with that. The "rich" in this country already pay over 90% of all income taxes that go into the government. Seriously...don't you think that is enough? I am by no means rich, but I think that is enough. Obama is a Democrat, but he is also a socialist. Look at his history, who he has associated with throughout his adult life who share the same mode of thinking. Socialism never works. Invariably ends in dictatorship. Any time the government gets in the business of taking away something from the private sector saying it is going to redistribute to people who did not earn it...it leads to dictatorship. Cuba is a good example...Venezuela another one.
Believe me, I know all Democrats are not socialists. And I know advocating social programs is not the same thing as advocating socialism. However, what Obama says he is going to do IS socialism, far left socialism. The fact that he is a Democrat has nothing to do with his socialist tendencies. Sometimes you have to put pieces together to get a picture. That is why I suggested first, finding out what Marxist theory is. And then start looking at that thread throughout Obama's life. Until I started going to the internet and researching, I had no idea. I had seen the name Alinsky in some of the stuff about his community organizing, but it did not click with me. When I went to the internet and started looking...there is a lot of information there. Shying away from opinion and he said she said, and just looking at facts...and then looking at the way the marxist theory is woven into his whole hope and change thing, the redistribution of wealth...and then to have Alinsky's son say he learned well from his father...
All I can say is, I am an Independent too, and if this was John McCain or Hillary Clinton (come to find out she was one of his students too) or Sarah Palin or anyone else...it would give me pause.
We are not talking about a senate seat where there is not much power to implement change...we are talking about the President of the United States with a majority democratic congress.

But Nancy Pelosi is not going to remove the people from their posts. Dodd and Frank should both be removed. They have not learned a thing from this; they tried to put an earmark for ACORN in the first draft of the bill. They have learned nothing. And no one seems to care. I just don't get it. Absolutely do not get it. The democratic congress will not police themselves, and their party will not police them either. I don't understand it. I'm so tired of trying to make a living but betwen the state and federal government taking it all away when we get finally get near the top of things I really, really get nasty sometimes. My grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be paying for what we could not stop; i.e., stimuls, TARP, and everything else coming down the pike, and I don't think any of it is right. I feel our country is down the tubes and there is no getting out of it. I hope I am wrong, but between the state and federal government and what they are creating, they will take, or try to take, everything we all worked hard to achieve. Big Brother has come to the USA even if it did take more than 25 years. You all know this country is going down but what, really, is anyone doing to stop it? Not much, because we are not a unified body, and unless we do band together and try, we are doomed. JMHO

they were Christians and lived with those principles. They weren't fanatics, but they were faithful in their beliefs without forcing others. I guess my point is no leader of this country is going to try to convert anybody to do anything. But this country was based on Christian values. That's all I am saying.
But what you don't realize
is $250,000 is not rich. My father-in-law owns a construction business, and his business makes that much a year, but after paying insurance, employees, etc, it is not much of a profit. He has enough to own a nice home (one story, three bedrooms, two baths, nothing fancy) and a decent truck. He isn't rich by any means. He also goes out and works his butt off literally from dusk to dawn every day. At 61 years old he is still out there building houses keeping up with the young bucks he hires. Why is it fair that after 30 years of doing this he is now going to be taxed more to give to others? Mind you he already gives the shirt off his back to anyone who needs it and has done so much work for free for people in need it would make your head spin. There are many, many others out there like him that will be punished for working hard. It's not right.
I agree that companies like Exxon and Mobil should be looked into. It's not right for them to make record profits when we are struggling. It's not right for the corporations we just bailed out to be out on vacation on the money we just gave them. But those companies are making MILLIONS if not BILLIONS a year. Not a quarter of a million. Quarter of a million is small business owners. If we are so tired of the big corporations, the last thing we need to do is tax small business more. That will cause them to shut down and then all we will have to deal with is the huge corporations. If the local computer repair shops closes down, then eventually all you will have to deal with is Microsoft or Apple. And I don't know if you've dealt with them recently or at all, but they charge way more than any local shop I know and their customer service stinks. That's just one example though.
If O wants to tax someone, go after the big companies. Make the corporations we just bailed out pay back the money since they are obviously just out having a hay day with it. Don't punish small business. That's what (should) drive this country.

that Iraq/Iran/Afganistan are in the area that is referred to as "The Cradle of Civilization?" This is the area of the world that we need to watch as I believe there will be a lot of activity there over the ensuing years.
I realize that there are only so many
words that rhyme with white, but the thing I find disturbing are the double standards. For example, Reverend Wright (not to beat a dead horse so please forgive me) but if a white reverend said the kind of racist things he said about the black community, whoever white political figure attended that church for any amount of time would have had their career ruined. If a church had the same values that Wright's did but you exchanged black for the word white, that church would have been labeled as a racist church....KKK....etc. If a white reverend had given a benediction and said anything remotely like what Lowery did, not only would the race card have been thrown out, it would have been all over the news, the outrage from the black community would have been everywhere, and I'm sure a public apology would have had to have been made.
As a younger white female, I understand the history as far as the facts go. Did I experience it...no. However, I have experienced racism in my own personal life with having some things done to me from a black person for no reason other than the color of my skin. Do I judge all black people by the ones who were racist towards me....of course not. There are good and bad in all races. As a white person, I feel I have embraced what is right. I treat people like I would want to be treated no matter what they look like or the color of their skin. So to be lumped into the category Lowery lumped me into.....well...that is offensive to me.
The comments made by black rappers and celebs saying things like....no more white lies...my president is black and using the N- word. All very offensive to me especially to think that people use them as role models.
And not to burst their bubble.....President Obama is half white. So going by what they were spewing about not trusting white people and their lies....well I guess they can only trust Obama 50% of the time then since technically he is half white. Hmm....funny how no one ever mentions his mixed race and just merely focus on the color of his skin and give him the title of a black man.
I realize that....
I saw their summer homes in Ft. Lauderdale (the size of small cities), their yachts that cost millions and millions of dollars, spit shined, with names like "Never Enough." Since this country has made them so successful, why can't they forgo their tax break to help out their gardners and maids? They have more money than they could ever spend. No resentment here. They either earned it, stole it or was married/born into it. I am sure all of their stock investments either dived or they were forewarned and bailed before the crash hit. The whole country came together and worked as a team during world war II. EVERYONE sacrificed. Now it's every man for himself. I guess we can't expect that kind of heroism of anyone in this day and age.

the Palestinians have been used as shills by other Muslim and Arab nations to keep this 'conflict' stirred up, not much any of us can do to change your mind.
I didn't realize they were even doing that
until I saw her post, which nobody can help but see when they try to get to the political boards. Now she's denying doing it, so go figure, eh?
They must be getting desperate, and remembering how they got others banned on here, if you suddenly stop seeing posts from me, you'll know they got me banned, as well.
Just in case this is the last post I'm allowed to post here, I just want to point out that in my original post above, I never once singled out a single person or poster. I was speaking in general terms. It was then that they started copying and pasting my posts on theri board and posting their attacks, singling ME out and mentioning my moniker.
I'm also sorry for any trashing YOU might get from them simply because you're being nice to me. I've noticed you're also suddenly one of their targets now.
Like I said, if you suddenly don't see my posts any more, you can just assume that history has repeated itself and that I've been banned, as well.
