I adore her.

I got this in an e-mail awhile back.  I believe much of what is written here has been deliberately slanted. Also, I was pretty sickened by the 'Bush hates black people' rhetoric.

It's not easy to describe a woman of Condoleezza
Rice's quality in 800 words, or less.  But if she is what I think she is, the odds-on favorite to be the
Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States in 2008, it's time we all had a more complete grasp of the depth and breadth of this most unusual woman.

An individual of Condoleezza Rice's caliber may come along only once or twice in a lifetime and we'd better not allow her to pass our way without getting to know her fully and completely.  And if we allow her to pass by without taking full advantage of who and what she is, we will certainly live to regret it.

Dick Morris, the former Bill Clinton advisor and Hillary Rodham Clinton detractor, has written a book titled, Condi vs. Hillary: The Next Great Presidential Race.  His premise is that the only way Republicans can maintain control of the White House in 2008 is by nominating Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

In comparing Condoleezza Rice to Hillary Rodham
Clinton, Morris provides a long list of Clinton's
accomplishments, all of which have come about because she just happened to be the wife of the Governor of Arkansas, and later, the President of the United States - from her job as a partner in the Rose Law Firm, to heading up the Clinton Administration's massive healthcare fiasco, to being elected to the United States Senate from a state in which she had never lived..

Condoleezza Rice, on the other hand, has achieved far more than Senator Clinton and she's done it all on her own.  Throughout her teens, and before, she lived according to the precept that her father instilled in her.  He taught her that black people could never find fulfillment by waiting on others to do things for them.  He taught her that, in order to reach her highest potential, in order to overcome the racial injustice that was built into the system, she'd have to work harder; she'd simply have to be twice as good as her white counterparts.

Condoleezza Rice was born in Birmingham , Alabama on November 14, 1954 .  Her given name, Condoleezza, is derived from the Italian musical expression, Con Dolcezza, meaning with sweetness.  Her father was a minister, pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, and a guidance counselor at Ullman High School  Her mother, Angelena Ray Rice, taught science, music, and forensics at Ullman.

In 1967, her father became an assistant dean at the University of Denver .  Condi graduated in 1970 from St. Mary's Academy in Denver , an all-girls Catholic High School , and later attended the University of Denver .  She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1974, at age 19, earning a B.A. in political science, and received her M.A. degree in political science from Notre Dame in 1975.

After serving an internship at the State Department
during the Carter Administration, an experience which caused her to leave the Democratic Party to become a Republican, she returned to the University of Denver , earning her Ph.D. in Political Science in 1981, at age 26.

In addition to English, she speaks fluent Russian and French and has some fluency in German and Spanish, as well.

After earning her doctorate at the University of
Denver she moved to Palo Alto , California where she joined Stanford University as an Assistant Professor of Political Science.  She was tenured in 1987, promoted to University Provost (chief budget and academic officer) in 1991, and to full Professor in 1993.

As Provost, she was responsible for managing the
university's multi-billion dollar budget and a debt
that had grown to more than $20 million.  When she assumed the responsibilities of Provost she declared that the budget deficit would be eliminated within two years, a goal which faculty colleagues felt was laudable, but unreachable.  Two years later, Rice announced that not only had the budget been brought into balance, the university enjoyed a record surplus of more then $14.5 million.

In 2001 she was selected as White House National
Security Adviser for President George W. Bush, and in January 2005 she became the nation's 66th Secretary of State, succeeding Colin Powell.

Most agree that she would make an excellent candidate for President of the United States , but many feel that she is not yet prepared to make that decision.  That's fine.  She's still a very young woman.  But the people of America would be foolish to let this most talented and capable woman pass by without taking full advantage of her experience, her talents, and her abilities.  Condi is possessed of an iron will and a steely determination, but she also exudes warmth, humility, and decency.

Condi vs. Hillary?  There's no contest.  By
 comparison, Hillary is small potatoes.
