You know, what this bulletin *system* needs is a bashing board. I used to post at a relatively calm board and some wanted to pick fights no matter what..The owner in her wisdom created a bashing board where those who have anger, upset, whatever and wanted to bash could and could also leave those other boards alone which did not want turmoil. Maybe the owners here could do that. I dont know who owns this board. We have had a republican president for 8 years and a republican congress for 6 of those years, and 2 just barely on the dem side. When Bill Clinton's presidency was over, we had a multimillion dollar surplus and low unemployment; however, the republicans thought it was more important to impeach him for "sex crimes". Just think of all the good he could have done if time was not wasted in defending himself, not to mention all our tax dollars that were spent. Hello? Their marriage has obviously survived and it is no ones business but theirs.

You know if they want to create jobs
why aren't we drilling for oil? Why aren't we getting wind farms going? If our government would take more money to look into alternative fuels, not only would that stop our dependency on foreign oil but we will need workers to maintain those things, etc. Those will be jobs that will last. It won't be like construction work like Obama wants. Once the roads are repaired and bridges fixed, etc....then what? I just think we are going in the wrong direction and I just don't understand why. We need to tap our resources with offshore drilling. We need to drill Alaska. While we are doing that, we need to look for alternatives to oil. The sooner they do that, the sooner car companies can make environmentally safer cars and vehicles. I mean....come on.

I am amazed at the criticism directed at Obama regarding the current economic crisis.
1. Did he run up our huge debt with China?
2. Who blew billions on Wall Street without any oversight - Bush/Paulson - ring a bell?
3. Who gave us the stimulus checks last year that the government couldn't really afford to give?
4. Who got us into a $10 billion a month Iraq war when our allies and the UN Security Council could see that the "evidence" was total b.s.? Wasn't it McCain who said we would keep at it 100 years? How much has that and would that fiasco cost us?
I speak as a former Republican/turned independent. Both parties have sold us down the river to appeal to the interests of big multinationals interested in "free trade". How could we possibly hope to keep our economy healthy by allowing trade with people making pennies an hour? Our own profession is a microcosm of the maladies caused by the "global economy". We make far less and work much harder - finding it difficult to pay bills. It had to crash sometime.
I agree with you that this stimulus package will probably not do the trick, but to blame Obama for it is ridiculous. It would be the equivalent of having been sent in a barrel over the side of Niagara Falls, and halfway down Obama tries to figure out a way to soften the landing. He didn't put us in the situation - and maybe he can't get us out.
One thing is certain - McCain could not have done better. He would have kept us bleeding billions in Iraq that we simply do not have.
We are likely going to see runaway inflation. The government is committing itself to compounding the effects of the disaster - starting with Bush allowing Paulson to throw billions to his Wall Street buddies and the continuing effort to stave off the inevitable crash of our economy. The only way they can afford these megabillion plans is to print more money - and the money will become worth a lot less. Get ready for a $100 loaf of bread.

President Nixon's Secretary of State, the aging Henry Kissinger, recently told CNBC that he believes the current world economic crisis is a "great opportunity" for President-elect Obama to help create a "new world order."
"What do you think the most important thing is for Barack Obama?" Kissinger was asked. "... If you had to say, this is going to be the country, or the conflict, or the place that will define the Obama administration, what would it be?"
Kissinger replied: "The President-elect is coming into office at a moment when there are upheavals in many part of the world simultaneously. You have India-Pakistan. You have, ah, a jihadist movement."
"But," continued Kissinger, "he can give new imputus to American foreign policy, partly because the ascension of him is so extraordinary and admirable.
"I think that his task will be to develop an overall strategy for America in this period, when really a "New World Order" can be created. It's a great opportunity. It isn't such a crisis."
In response to a parting question, Kissinger added that Obama's cabinet is an "extraordinarily able group of people."
"The phrase 'new world order' traces back at least as far as 1940, when author H.G. Wells used it as the title of a book about a socialist, unified, one-world government," writes Drew Zahn. "The phrase has also been linked to American presidents, including Woodrow Wilson, whose work on establishing the League of Nations pioneered the concept of international government bodies, and to the first President Bush, who used the phrase in a 1989 speech."
In that 1989 speech, the elder Bush told Congress, "A new partnership of nations has begun, and we stand today at a unique and extraordinary moment. Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective –– a new world order –– can emerge: A new era …… in which the nations of the world, east and west, north and south, can prosper and live in harmony."
It is a quote echoed across the Internet by those who believe a non-elected governing body is forming at the very top of the world's elite, and spreading.
Kissinger previously spoke at some length about this "new world order" during an interview with Charlie Rose.
"I think that when the new administration assess the position in which it finds itself it will see a huge crisis and terrible problems, but I can see that it could see a glimmer in which it could construct an international system out of it," Kissinger told Rose in a Dec. 2008 conversation.
"The jihadist crisis is bringing it home to everybody, that international affairs cannot be conducted entirely by drawing borders and defining international politics by who crosses what borders with organized military force," he said. "This has now been reinforced by the financial crisis, which totally unexpectedly has spread around the world. It limits the resources that each country has for a foreign policy geared to an assertion of its own pure interests."
Kissinger publicly supported McCain for President in 2008.

Huge mistake
I have been banned from this board a long time, and finally they let me back in. There is a post from this Nan person, a cartoon justifying it as filbustering T. Kennedy; when in essence it makes a mockery out of thousands of Americans, and even more Iraq's lives lost. I did go on the wrong board, I did not intend to, honestly. I have not been on this board for more than 4 months until last night; and I can understand the moderator's decision to change it; but I really did not know. Who is this Nan person? She must be a moderator because if you challenge her with the truth one iota, your posts are deleted. Again, the moderators have allowed me to get away with a lot. I do understand their decision to split it into conservatives and liberals; and I have no excuse, I have had an extremly stressful week, went on there to express my opinion and my posts were deleted, I simply went on the wrong board and once again was called a troll. Anyone who disagrees with this Nan person is accused of being a troll.

Where is all the money coming from being donated to Obama's campaign. They are using fake names. Why? Now, most common sense folks will know why if we don't want to deceive ourselves. between an MT who might be fortunate enough to make $20 an hour, which could be considered a livable wage, and a UAW making about $40 an hour without benefits. And no, I'm not one of the fortunate ones, but if I were and that were in the offing, then I would likely start looking into retraining for another line of work. Be that as it may, MTs are paid less than slave wages now, or hadn't you noticed before you retired?
The UAW taking a cut in pay is not in order for money to "go to the coffers of the CEOs." The CEOs are supposed to take pay cuts as well and at least 2 of them are working for $1 a year, aren't they? This is about saving the industry, but I doubt this bailout will do that. Come March, I fully expect that nothing will have changed and they will want more money and/or time. Will be interesting to see what happens then.

And to set the record straight...not everyone who is against abortion is against it on religious grounds. They are against it on MORAL grounds. You don't have to be religious to have morality. There are several folks who identify themselves as "true" liberals and say that if you oppose war, oppose the death penality, on the basis of loss of life that it is inconsistent to be pro abortion. And I would agree, that based on everything I have read about the liberal philosophy, it is inconsistent with being pro abortion. But I guess some "liberals" pick and choose what life is worth saving. There's that choice thing again.
How can it be right to give one person (the mother) choice over the life of another (the child)? And why is that choice only good before the baby takes a breath, and afterward it becomes murder? That is about as inconsistent as it gets.
The challenges have failed because there have remained enough liberal judges in the court to keep from a majority. That is why it has failed. Why won't Congress just take it up and pass an abortion law (a REAL law)...why did they never do that in all the years abortion was illegal? Ask yourself THAT question.

Why is it okay for Bush to care so much about the Iraqi people he bombed that he included comprehensive and universal healthcare as part of his Iraq war budget, yet the mere mention of helping almost 50 million people acquire healthcare just terrible?
All that's just fine and dandy, but dare to mention one thing to help Americans get by in a bad economy is suddenly "big government"?
Bush only cared about corporate welfare and is supported. Obama cares about people and is trashed. For the life of me, I don't understand that way of thinking.

Crest toothpaste is made in Mexico. Hepatitis A outbreaks came from Mexico. Dollar store brands? Check the labels on vitamins, aspirin, EVERYTHING (China - they put ANYTHING in their products). Even Birdseye frozen vegetables are grown and packaged in Mexico. The only store I have found that the labels inevitably say: Grown and manufactured in the USA is SAVE-A-LOT!!! What happened to the FDA? Remember when Bush said we couldn't buy our medications from Canada? Guess who is making most of our meds now................

Hey, I am sorry that Bush wrecked the economy with his multi-trillion $$$ war, which is still looking a lot like Viet Nam, and his failed trickle-down economics and cronyism, but at least the President is trying, he is trying to listen, he has taken out a few of the big red flags that so many thought wrong and wasteful(and I agree, by the way), but now he is at least rolling up his sleeves and concentrating.

Everybody was playing on the fear factor. Panic sets in and everybody starts selling. According to what I have heard, there are now great stock buys and that is what they are seeing.
Everybody gets so wrapped up in this "sky is falling" mentality and that is what the government hopes.
All their little nay sayers trying to scare the sense out of everybody but what they are hearing from their constiuents say do NOT say yes to the bill. The people do not believe that everything is going to h@ll in a hand basket if they vote NO to the bill.
I'm sure a lot more votes would have been yes yesterday if it had not been for their constituents faxing, calling, and e-mailing telling them they oppose such bailout.

Who knows, funny how the market went
out of control when the race was within a few points, which only helps the dems out. The market can easily be manipulated by anyone with money (the Warren Buffets and George Soros' of the world) not to mention other countries.
My take on the whole election though is white guilt is going to push O into office. This is an historic election, people get caught up in the frenzy and emotion of it all, want to be a part of history in some small way, and voting for O seems not only politically correct (did you know you're a racist if you don't vote for him?) but eases a little of the white guilt some people have (another touchy-feely, PC thing to have). A man who has not had to answer tough questions, has little to no experience, has associations with radical tendencies, flip flops on most issues and is willing to wave the white flag is most likely going to be our next president. My only questoin is, what are Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and all the other lefties going to talk about for the next 4 years? I have a feeling the real truth about O is going to come out in the coming years.

The government is backing away from buying troubled mortgages and now are going to put it in an investment program taking capital. The facts changed. His approach is to give banks enough cash to keep homes on the books and keep cash in the banks.
They will not bail out those people who shouldn't have taken out the loans in the first place.

in September. Heard Jim Cramer at that time say the economy was going to tank soon; heeded the advice and pulled out that day. O is certainly bringing hope and change to the masses, isn't he? You better hope you have some money to retire on and change your retirement plan!

There are tons of homes on the market.
More homes for sale would bring the price down. The house would be appraised at a reasonable value. Only the sincere folks should be eligible.
Many were owned by private investors who bit off more than they can chew, trying to get rich fast.
My home went up in value by 120,000 from what I paid for it, to settle at $250,000. The guy across the street sold his for that and ours are identical. Now, it is back down to about 150,000. But that is cool cuz I got it for 80,000 (fixer upper). This is calif which means a lot.
I did try to refi twice - Central Valley Mtg offered me nothing but an ARM. He wanted me to take 20,000 of equity out (He said I needed a vacation). I turned it down. (I'm a Suze Ormon fan). He actually threw his pen across the desk when I told him.
Second time, the mtg broker offered me tiered payments, just principal first year, then a low interest rate the next and over 5 years, the interest rate sours. He wanted me to take 20 grand more out to invest in the stock market (lol). Then, refi before the huge interest rates kick in. I walked away on that. He did not even offer a fixed rate. When I requested it, he made it sound like it was out of the question.
Finally, went to WAMU (which is now JP Morgan...) and they refi'ed me with a fixed rate.
Predatory lending at its best.
