Stop and think long and hard about
Take yourself out of the moment and give some consideration to what the history of our country has to tell you. If you are too young to remember, then listen to the ones who do remember and pay heed. It really is not too much to ask that you at least acknowledge that hate speech and bigotry are dangerous and, at times, fatal. Just take a look at the old woman at the McCain rally last night and ask yourself where she got such ideas from. Why do you suppose McCain pulled himself back from it when faced with the result of campaign strategies gone out of control. Use the brains God gave you in the way He would want you to use them. Take a cue from McCain and get back to the business of running a respectable campaign. You never know. It might just win him the election.
Can you stop parroting Faux Noise long enough
The freeze is pending review of the Gitmo operations. You are just plain STUPID to think that Obama is going to flood the streets with the detainees. They will be transerred to different facilities (last I heard, they were considering re-opening Alcatraz, for example!), their charges and cases reviewed and heard in a legitimate court proceedings, but don't look for ALL cases to stand, especially the ones where the only evidence against the accused was gained by means of torture. Some of them may well end up walking. You will have your beloved shrub and Cheney to thank for that.
And no matter how many there are Obama will keep his law firms busy blocking them...
and spending, spending, spending.
I support the plan to LOAN the money to the mortage firms in crisis.
At 2% interest.

Why should they be GIVEN a huge wad of cash to bail them out. If you or I were in desperate straits, our only option would be a loan, not a gimmee. Either way, Congress is going to have to give them the money. But I think we should expect a pay-back plan to be set forth BEFORE they get the dough, and not just give them a blank check for 700 billion.
and who will you hire?
Me - MT with 30 years of experience in the field of MT or

person X - just graduated from an MT program.

Sorry - education is not all there is to it. Much to be said for experience. Obama does not have it. McCain does.

New Bush rule makes it easier to hire foreign workers

Dec 10, 8:43 PM EST

Administration changes to farm worker hiring afoot

By SUZANNE GAMBOA
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- As it prepares to leave office, the Bush administration is moving to make it easier for U.S. farming companies to hire foreign field workers, which farmworker groups say will worsen wages and working conditions.

Farm groups said that changes to the H2A visa program, used by the agriculture industry to hire temporary farm workers, were posted on the Labor Department's Web site at midnight Tuesday but have since been taken down.

Labor Department spokesman Terry Shawn said whatever was posted wasn't the final version of the new rule, which Shawn said would be released Thursday and published in the Federal Register on Dec. 18.

The Bush administration published a proposed version of the new rule last Feb. 13 and received nearly 12,000 public comments, Shawn added. The next version will be a final rule and can take effect 30 days after publication. Some of its provisions would take effect in mid-January and others later in the year, the farmworker groups said.

Farm worker advocates and the United Farm Workers union said the version that appeared on the Web site would lead to a flood of cheaper workers.

"The government has decided to offer agriculture employers really low wages, low benefits, no government oversight to bring in foreign workers on restricted visas and thereby convince them they should do this instead of hiring undocumented workers," said Bruce Goldstein, executive director of Farmworker Justice, a group that advocates for farmworkers.

The changes in the posted version would drop a requirement that an employer get the Labor Department to certify it faces a worker shortage before it can get visas for foreign workers; instead, employers would be allowed to simply attest in writing to a shortage. That version of the new rule also would change the method for calculating wage minimums for workers and relieve employers of a requirement to recruit in states or communities where other employers already are hiring farm workers, Goldstein said.

But Assistant Labor Secretary Leon Sequeira said Wednesday evening the agency is not dropping the obligation to obtain certification, which is required by law.

Paul Schlegel, American Farm Bureau public policy director, said many of the changes will make the program a little less burdensome for employers. He said existing laws prevent employers from hiring foreign workers if the jobs can be filled by U.S. workers.

"My members want to make sure they have a legal supply of labor," said Schlegel, who added that he had not reviewed all the proposed changes.

The rule changes are a part of a pattern of last-minute regulatory changes being rushed into effect by the Bush administration before President-elect Barack Obama's Jan. 20 inauguration.

The effect is to make it harder for Obama to change course on some policies favored by Republicans and the business community.

"We are hopeful that the Obama administration would recognize the utter mistake and unfairness of this proposal," Goldstein said. Congress has a procedure for reversing the rules, he said.

Many of the last-minute changes by the Bush administration have come in the area of public lands and the environment, including easing regulations on mining waste and allowing handguns in national parks. Another pending rule would grant greater leeway to railroads to transport hazardous materials through densely populated areas.

Like women who are resistant to every form of BC
Before you start preaching to me about adoption, been there, done that. Easy for you to say from your ivory tower pulpit. Try it once of twice, like I did, and then come back and tell us all how right it is for "everyone concerned." Blinded to your own gender by right-wing dogma. Not exactly the perfect example to follow. Stay out of other people's business unless you know what you are talking about.

Man of principle, to be sure. Drives you crazy, doesn't it?
Then why does your opinion always form on the left?????? (sm)
I doubt you really truly watch Fox News and Fox programs as you much as say you do. You are seem far too liberal to do so with any regularity. They are definitely middle and more towards left, than right, in their attempt to be fair and balanced.

Same goes for a lot of O'Reilly. Two left views for one right view.....

Really wish there was a real and true conservative network out there. Fox ain't it, anymore, honey.

Now Rush....ever listen to Rush? He's a true, blue righie, that's for sure. Nice to have someone with the guts these days to be consistently on the right of everything.

It is definitely some form of prejudice! So if not racism...
To say someone's administration is a failure 3 months into a 48 month term is pre-judging. Prejudging is another word for prejudice.

No matter what kind of sanctimonious spin they want to put on their words, the bottom line is their are prejudiced.
"Flattery is the sincerest form of fla"
Were you trying to say "IMITATION is the sincerest form of flattery", perhaps?

If so, it's one of those stupid bits of "common wisdom" that doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Go stand in front of the gorilla cage at the zoo and you'll see what I mean...unless, of course, you consider that the gorillas are flattering you.

But I could see the government coming up with this a a tracking device for say, child molesters. I bet a lot of people would LIKE that.
Form email from John Kerry and my reply

...and my response.  (Warning:  It's lengthy.)

This is our moment of truth. You and I have to make it absolutely clear that we won't stand for Republican Swift Boat style attacks on Jack Murtha.

Yesterday, an extraordinary congressman, former Marine Drill Sergeant and decorated Vietnam veteran, spoke out on the war in Iraq. He didn't come to that moment lightly. He spoke his mind and spoke his heart out of love for his country and support for our troops. No sooner had the words left his lips than the vicious assault on his character and patriotism began.

Today, in a statement on the Senate floor, in interviews with the national media, and in this message to you, I am seeking out every opportunity to defend a brave American hero that the Republican attack machine has set their sights on.

I urge you to do the same. Whether you agree or disagree with Jack Murtha is irrelevant. These despicable attacks on Jack Murtha's patriotism and courage must be met with an enormous public outcry. Call your local talk radio show, write a letter to the editor, phone your members of Congress - join me in acting now to reject these Swift Boat style attacks on Jack Murtha.

It disgusts me that a bunch of guys who have never put on the uniform of their country have aimed their venom at a marine who served America heroically in Vietnam and has been serving heroically in Congress ever since. No matter what J.D. Hayworth says, there is no sterner stuff than the backbone and courage that defines Jack Murtha's character and conscience.
Dennis Hastert -- the Speaker of the House who never served -- accused Jack Murtha of being a coward. Well let me tell you, Jack Murtha wasn't a coward when he put himself in harm's way for his country in Vietnam and earned two purple hearts -- he was a patriot then, and he is a patriot today. Jack Murtha's courage in combat earned him a Bronze Star, and his voice should be heard, not silenced by those who still today cut and run from the truth.

Instead of letting his cronies run their mouths, the President for once should stop his allies from doing to Jack Murtha what he set them loose to do to John McCain in South Carolina and Max Cleland in Georgia.

The President should finally find the courage to debate the real issue instead of destroying anyone who speaks truth to power as they see it. It's time for Americans to stand up, fight back, and make it clear it's unacceptable to do this to any leader of any party anywhere in our country.

I urge you to join today in a massive public outcry that rejects the attempt to demonize and destroy anyone who dares to disagree with George W. Bush's aimless stay for as long as it takes policy on Iraq.

Please act now. Call and email your elected officials. Flood talk radio with calls rejecting these vicious smear tactics. Send a letter to the editor.

Express your outrage about the tired old Rovian Swift Boat style attacks on Jack Murtha.

Sincerely,
John Kerry

MY REPLY:

Dear Senator Kerry:

I absolutely agree with everything you wrote, and I have been posting my views on political message boards, as well as emailing Duncan Hunter, and I've written a four-page letter to Congressman Murtha himself.

Now I must address YOUR response to the attacks on Congressman Murtha.

I thank you for your defense of him; however, I felt it was very, VERY weak. (By the way, please pass this on to Senators Clinton and Reid so they might get a clue into what makes the majority of Americans tick).

For years now, Democrats, including yourself, have openly expressed their opposition to the Iraq war, but you haven't had one single idea to fix the problem, and when asked WHY you voted for it (before you voted against it), you all give some lame, limp, meaningless excuse.

NOW is the time to aggressively defend Congressman Murtha and his plan for leaving Iraq. Bush HAS NO PLAN. MURTHA DOES. It's really quite a simple concept.

Although I'm beginning to lose patience with you all, let's regroup and start over. Today is the first day of the rest of our lives.

I realize that most of you fell down on the job and didn't really scrutinize the Bush intelligence (this term is found in the dictionary under oxymoron and/or just plain old moron).

You were probably busy and didn't have time to read thousands of pages of documents. That's understandable. What's even more understandable is that as President of the United States, there's a preconceived notion that this person is, in fact, ethical and honorable. We now know that is not the case. We now know that he possibly took America to war on the blood of thousands of 9/11 victims simply to insure a successful Presidency. NOW is the time to admit that you, as well as every intelligent, thinking American and the entire WORLD, were FOOLED by this man because he was so blatant and aggressive in his pursuit of this war, it simply never occurred to any of you that you were dealing with a man who planned on attacking Iraq before he was even (s)elected President. (See
http://www.tompaine.com/articles/20...went_to_war.php,)

NOW is the time to expose the true character and motives of this prior alcoholic who never received professional help for his addiction. He comes across as a simple man because he IS a simple man, in every sense of the word. His simplicity extends to the largest deficit in American history, and his tactics remind me of a teenager who recklessly maxes out Daddy's credit card because he has no responsibility for the bill, given that Daddy will pay it.

NOW is the time to embrace Congressman Murtha's plan, since it DOES make sense, reflects an actual THOUGHT PROCESS taking place, and is the thing that most Americans want. This man is not some 5-deferment draft dodger or Air National Guard absentee. He's a decorated Purple Heart recipient, who has devoted his entire life to helping the military and veterans.

NOW is the time to reveal an administration who would place the lives of a CIA agent in jeopardy and with everyone who ever worked with her, simply because her husband exposed the TRUTH.

NOW is the time to reveal the administration's press secretary's Plamerizing of John Murtha. NOW is the time to acknowledge that you truly have connected the dots, and the picture of a lying, unethical administration has emerged. If you do this NOW, most forward-thinking Americans will probably forgive you for now just catching up with everything they've known for months.

NOW is the time to publicly condemn Friday's histrionics of the House of Representatives. I, as a taxpayer, resent having to pay for that crap.

Sadly, you've pretty much already proven that you don't have many original ideas. NOW is the time to attach yourselves to John Murtha's coattails and hang on for dear life.

In case you haven't figured this out yet, you're up against an administration who will stop at NOTHING to transform this country into a theoracy, who will brag about the impending freedom for all Iraqis, while simultaneously slowly removing the freedoms of Americans, as his narrow-minded base pursues control over every single American regarding when we're born, who we love, which God we're allowed to worship, and when and how we die.

NOW is the time to expose the evangelical recruitment taking place in the Air Force in Colorado and the accompanying ridicule and persecution of soldiers who have different religious beliefs.

NOW is the time (albeit it four years LATE) to prove you care about the safety of Americans and aggressively pursue the security of our borders so that al Qaeda members cannot come into America from Mexico and KILL US.

Above all else, NOW IS THE TIME to reveal this President as the one who is truly aiding and abetting the enemy by providing them free, complimentary OTJ training in Iraq where they can hone their craft while killing our American soldiers.

NOW is the time to STOP being quiet and milquetoasty and to aggressively pursue this Administration's lies (I know they're numerous, ongoing, and difficult to keep track of) and reveal them for what they truly are.

MOST OF ALL, NOW is the time to honestly express what Congressman Murtha REALLY said when he outlined his plan to leave Iraq. It was a very thoughtful, sensible plan, and the fact that administration henchmen are maliciously mischaracterizing it should be revealed and aggressively FOUGHT.

If you truly foresee a future for your party, NOW is the time to embrace and advertise something the Administration doesn't have: A PLAN for Iraq. Although you might be able to win some elections by simply being the least worst party, is that really the future you envision for the Democratic party?

The ball is in your court. Don't let this one get away.... again.

Americans are losing patience.

9/11 and conspiracy theories

For a very long time, there have been people who claimed that 9/11 didn't happen as reported.  It's been claimed the black boxes were found by NYC firefighters, yet this was denied by the FBI.  It was claimed that the remnants of a plant were never found at the Pentagon.  There have been even more *theories* than this.

Up until recently, my common sense told me these *theories* were just ridiculous, and I never EVER gave them a second thought.

Now that I realize that every single thing this president has done has been dishonest, I'm not so sure about 9/11 any longer because I don't think there is anything this man WOULDN'T do, regardless of how heinous, to force Americans to *agree* with his policies by using fear, coercion and intimidation.  Most things I used to consider to be simply *unthinkable* are quickly becoming not only thinkable but possible and maybe even likely under Bush.

Lately, when I wake up every morning, I hope I will find that the last 5 years have just been a horrifically bad dream, just like that other famous Texan:  Bobby Ewing.

Oh, do I smell conspiracy?
The plot thickens!
No, not a conspiracy....it is a game that...
the poster enjoys...though one of the standard lines is "I won't play your game" and then does exactly that. Frankly, I could not care less. The posts all say the same thing, in the flowery elitist condescending language...should be patently obvious to anyone who would like to go into the archives. But it does not really matter...the poster has made it personal, and the posts are in direct opposition to everything the posterior states are liberal qualities.

I came on this board a few weeks ago and just asked posters to define what they viewed as a "liberal." I got varying descriptions...and then I got a couple of posters who said there were no true liberals in the Democratic party. And based on the description of liberal ideals of other posters, and applying that to how those same posters post...I am left with the idea that that person...the one who said there were no true liberals in the Democratic party...is probably the closest to the truth. LINOs I guess. Liberals in name only.

Have a good day.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, but it is odd
that this was posted the same day that one of Dennis Kucinich's brothers was found dead.
Conspiracy Theory..........

Author:  Taylor Caldwell

In The Captains and the Kings (1976) Caldwell takes on the global power brokers. In this book we find, running through the story line, a description of the way the international financiers and industrialists (all private consortiums owned by an elite of the world's richest families and persons) hijack governments around the globe; instigating wars and gaining control over the warring countries through manipulation of the enormous debts incurred during a war. Mentioned too is the Council on Foreign Relations; and while a disclaimer states that all persons portrayed in the book are fictional, it is clear that the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as another major organization of the globalists are both very real organizations. Also described is the idea that political systems everywhere, and certainly in the US, are almost totally dominated by the ruling elite; and that no one even gets into the running for a major political office unless the elite believes the person is under their control. It is explained that this can be direct control; e.g., the candidate takes a solemn oath to be true to that organization above all others; or indirect control: the candidate is known to have done something illegal or scandalous. The threat of public exposure can then be used to bend the person to the will of the elite. Politicians can also be compromised through a "set-up". When necessary the elite will play that hand (conform or be ruined by the controlled media). It is further explained that there have been a few who were not under the control of the elite (back in the 40s and 50s) and who had some success on their own. These individuals were not corruptible and in such cases very dirty tricks were employed against them. There is a figure in the book obviously symbolising JFK, who went along with the elitists (his father's cronies), but who once in power went his own way - resulting in his assassination.

conspiracy theory

Economic crisis well controlled so far, maybe to give the republicans a chance at winning and to keep Bush from being blamed.  Will they let the flood gates loose in January?  Let us go into full blown economic depression?  So far, they have only rescued themselves, not ordinary people.  Maybe there won't be anything left to help ordinary people?

You take one conspiracy nutjob

who is obviously a disturbed man who owns guns and you blame Fox News for what he did.  Are you kidding me?

I've said this before and I will say it again.....Fox News has the highest ratings....higher than MSNBC and CNN combined.  A lot of people are not happy with the way are country is being run and they obviously like what they hear on Fox or they wouldn't be watching it.

Fox News is not the root of all evil.  Government corruption, however, is.  So why don't you try holding ALL politicians accountable for their actions instead of blaming Fox News and Bush for everything.

I call it a conspiracy theory because it is...
You mention scientists, demolition experts, police, eye witnesses...but someone had to be responsible for whatever you think might have happened, and therein lies the conspiracy theory. So who do the scienists, demolition experts, police, and eyewitnesses think is behind whatever they think they know or saw? And do you have any documentation for any of this? Especially since people actually SAW the planes fly into the buildings...unless you are saying the planes were flown into the buildings to cover up the "demolition" Or the "demolition" just happened to be planned at the same time the planes flew into the buildings? And if there were no planes and the eye witneses to that (including most of the world on television) were all victims of mass hallucination...what happened to the people on those non-existent planes? They never existed either?

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me. No offense intended...just calling it like it is.
