Must also be hard for some people to give direct answers after making a statement like that.

You give me a direct answer. You dodge it like he does.
How can he give 95% of AMericans a tax cut if 30-40% of Americans pay no federal income taxes. Either he is lying about the 95%, or he is going to use refundable tax credits. How else can he do it? PLEASE, PLEASE, explain that to me. If I am wrong, all you have to do is explain to me HOW he is going to give tax cuts to 95% of people, 30-40% of whom DO NOT PAY federal income taxes, wITHOUT cutting them a check. Please, please explain that to me.

Sam understands the basic principles of socialism and Marxism just fine. Most of which Mr Obama taught me in his books and associations. Which you are willing to ignore.

So please...very simply. Explain to me how he is going to give tax breaks or cuts to 95% of Americans if 30-40% of that group don't pay taxes. You said yourself, he can't. So either he is lying about the 95%...or he is going to cut that 30-40% a check.

PLEASE explain his tax plan to me since you are such an expert on it. HOW is he going to do it without cutting checks? HOW?
I think it's more making a statement
I don't think they're necessarily making the interstate trip for the sake of getting married per se; I believe they're doing it because they can do that thing that they felt it has long been denied to them. Many have had their own private/personal commitment ceremonies. As an example, I started going out to clubs when I was 17 (back in the days, 18 was the drinking age). However, it was still an "occasion" when I turned 18 and went out. I went to the same club I had been going to for the last year, drank no more than I ever had, and danced the same way I had for the last year. But that didn't make it any less special. I'm guessing it's the same kind of thing.
Not ridiculous - Obama should be the one making this statement.
Rumors have a way of getting out of hand and no, it's not just the right-wing. I know Pelosi didn't introduce anything into the into legislation, but just making the comment is bad enough.
You mean we wont be hearing, "war is hard work...we're making progress," etc? sm
Out with the old BS and in with the new. This should be interesting.

I won't hide! It's kinda hard to give

I would say a big no on that one - why are people trying so hard to get her in
I haven't figured out yet why people are trying so hard to get her into office. She should go back to being a Senator from NY. She even said earlier in her campaign that being a Senator is a very good job. I have not figured out (and I really have tried to be objectionable) as to why people want her back in there. Doesn't anyone remember what it was like when the Clintons were in before. I know that speaker of the house doesn't get her "in" the white house, but you have to remember that if something happens to President and VP then speaker of the house is next in line. That would make me very nervous and I'd be constantly looking over my shoulder as to what she and Bill are up to. I think she should go back to being a senator or congress person and leave it at that.
It is hard to believe that so many people
can put so much hope, trust, adoration and committment, thus making a god of this man. It is plain sickening.

Here's a real nice conservative statement. How to make friends and influence people.

"Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on-air Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

Unfortunately, there are not enough people willing to give to the poor!
Greed is rampant in this country and as the greedy saying goes, "charity begins at home." Therefore, something must be done to help those who are unable to help themselves. If people need to be forced to give, so be it. Whether they are blessed for it or not is of no concern to me. Call it whatever you want, I call it human decency!
It is people like Phelps that give

Christians bad names.  You don't have to agree with the gay lifestyle but to carry signs that say "God hates fags" is just wrong. That isn't a mesage of love.  That is hate pure and simple.  It is really sad that people like Phelps has followers.  I know we were all ready in our area to protect families of fallen soldiers just in case those nut jobs showed up to protest at the funeral.  What jerks!  No consideration at all.  Just horrible horrible hateful people who would do that.

The really sad part is that you just know that the news media is going to run with this blaming conservatives and grouping us all together just to prove how wrong conservatives and Christians are.  That too is sad.  We aren't all like Phelps.

Uhh, no! Stealing from wealthy to give to people

So people are poor because they chose to give tax cuts to billionaires?
Just today Cheney cast the deciding vote to cut back Medicare, Medicaid, and student loans. I guess as long as you're not the one who has a bit of misfortune and need a safety net, you really don't give a hoot, do ya? What about the billions spent in Iraq to turn it into a theocracy like Iran?
My post was a direct answer to the direct post...
of Democrat. It was not a blank open-ended statement. And dial it back a notch...it is certainly your right to protest anything any time you want to. Just like it is my right to protest you protesting while men and women are still in harm's way, because you are in effect aiding the enemy. Apparently the Viet Nam experience taught you nothing. Americans protesting in the streets heartened the enemy and when they were about to surrender decided not to, based a lot upon what was happening in the American streets. I believe that the protesting in that war prolonged the war and cost more American lives. Hanoi Jane should have been tried for treason. That being said...lessons were not learned and the protestors are doing the exact same thing now. Exercising the very right bought for them by shedding of American military blood. And I still say common courtesy should keep people out of the streets and off the TV until the military are home safe. But it just proves the same thing to me over and over...the selfISHhness of the protestors vs. the selfLESSness of the military. They continue to put it all on the line for your right to protest anything you want to protest...it is up to YOU to decide where and when that is appropriate, and it is up to you to take the heat for same. It is up to me and others like me (in my opinion) to apply that heat. Go ahead and do whatever your conscience or lack thereof moves you to do. But do not expect those of a different mind not to protest the protest.
Immediate White House statement on Dr. Tiller - still no statement on

Having had at least three relevant opportunities to make a statement about the killing of an Army recruiter and wounding of another since this occurred on Monday, Obama has not said a single word about it - but a statement was forthcoming from him immediately concerning the killing of Dr. Tiller.

The media coverage of the two events has also been strikingly different.  Please note that the sympathies of the liberal cause provide a complete explanation of both of these phenomena.

More than passingly strange that they think we don't notice stuff like this, n'est-ce pas? Well, they'll discover their mistake soon enough.  The election cycle of 2010 is already starting up - and it isn't going to look anything like the cycle of 2008.

I do believe that there is a direct

response to the OP with the title of "You're Whack."  The inside message said, "Who cares? So what? Get a life."

Seriously...if you have nothing constructive to add, why waste your time responding with that?

I guess I just don't get why some of you hate Christians so much?  I admit that there are those who try and force their religion upon others.  I don't do that.  If someone doesn't want to believe in what I do, like my husband, I don't push my views on him.  However, he doesn't ridicule me for believing either.

It just seems like every time someone mentions something about religion the bashing and name calling, etc. starts.  I'm beginning to think that maybe Christians should be placed on the hate crime list because it sure sounds like a lot of people hate us.

Can someone direct me to a site (sm)

I'm in FL and vote on Tuesday.  Believe it or not, I am undecided.  I liked Dennis, but he pulled out today and probably wouldn't have voted for him... won't go into why, but I'm sure I don't have to :-)

Dennis says to go Obama.... not sure if I want to.  What I want is to have a Dem president.  I like Edwards...

My demographic falls into Hilary's (female 45 and over lol).

May I politely and respectfully direct you
back to God's word?  Obviously a little more study and maturing will do you no harm.
You know, I hate hypocrisy. You want to direct me
back to God's Word?

When you can show me in God's Word where He approves of what Osambo approves, then we can talk.

Let's talk abortion, gay marriage, taxes, lying, cheating, subversion of government, indoctrination of preschoolers, redefining marriage, etc., a whole litany of what Osambo stands for and compare it to God Almighty's Word.

I warn you in advance. You are up against an adversary you do not want to tackle with because you are ill prepared to defend your comments and beliefs in the light of Scripture.

Ready to go for it, old girl?

Please direct me to the bible verse where it is written
about the right to bear arms. I missed this.

"They are no more pro war than God is. They do believe in the right to bear arms..."

The point being, cutting unnecessary procedures to seniors who "would not get any better anyway." I was so fuming angry that I would like everyone to hear it, but I for one could not stand watching it again. We are bailing out all these losers and he's going to deny our seniors. If he touches their benefits, I will march on Washington. Most of them paid their way all their lives and now they're being "cut" because he thinks it's frivalous as they "wouldn't get any better anyway." Who the blazes is he to make that decision???? Everyone deserves a choice of care, even Gramma and Grampa. I don't care how old they are!
Yeah, direct me to some homosexual "scientific"

site.  Believe me, if that were the case, it would be well publicized, especially in the New York Times.

Don't you even know that the first "scientists" who "came out" with a gay gene were homosexuals?  You don't think they have an agenda, my dear?

Nan-ism post was in direct reply/rebuttal to the two posts above it.

Surely you would agree that when accused of something we should have a chance for rebuttal? And that our rebuttal would surely include proof/evidence of why we took a particular stand?  Would you deny the liberal board that right?  SOME of us may be tolerant (or as Nan put it, "sissies") but some of us are very capable of speaking up for ourselves.

I have read Nan on this board (and others as well) for almost two years so I think I have a pretty fair grasp of her opinion and style of posting.

Feel free to direct your concerns to the Administrator. sm
You can reach the adminstrator at Admin@MTStars.com.  As far as deleting, since the incident of several weeks ago, I have made a concerted effort on BOTH boards to keep the bashing to a minimum.
Hardly. Consorting with vs direct quote? Supports succession
The quote thing, whether SP or her husband is not the only example of the problems SP will be facing once the convention is over and the campaign goes into high gear. So far, this morning, you have managed to dodge every single effort to elicit a response to SP's OWN words. Dismiss the pastor, but not her own preaching on video. That just won't fade away no matter how much spin you are able to produce. These are land mines waiting for detonation.

With regard to the "got not use for America's damned institutions" and support of succession question, these issues will not play well for yer in terms of country first, in the context of ethics (can't practice what is preached) and when it comes to change versus same old stuff.

Before pronoucing this as a nonissue, suppose we give this a little time to play out in the political arena? Your guilt by association campaign has already run its course, and Obama managed to clench the nomination. In the light of the blaring negative publicity that will be issuing forth in the weeks to come with SP being the newest rock star on the block, how much political mileage do you really think that empty tank is going to give you?

Annan Urges U.S.-Iran Direct Talks in Atomic Dispute (Update3)...sm

Annan Urges U.S.-Iran Direct Talks in Atomic Dispute (Update3)

May 12 (Bloomberg) -- United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan today said the U.S. needs to follow up on Iranian offers of direct negotiations in order to resolve peacefully their dispute over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.

``I've asked all sides to lower their rhetoric and intensify their diplomatic efforts to find a solution,'' Annan said at a briefing in Vienna. ``I think it's important that the United States comes to the table.''

The U.S. has let French, German and U.K. diplomats lead talks with Iran over the atomic dispute. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, at a meeting of the Developing Eight group of Islamic countries in Indonesia, said Iran is ready for direct talks and will comply with any UN decision on its atomic program based on international rules. A U.S. State Department spokesman in Vienna declined to comment.

The U.K. and France, backed by the U.S., have proposed a resolution under Chapter 7 of the United Nations charter to compel Iran to stop its nuclear work. A Chapter 7 resolution can invoke economic sanctions or military force against ``any threat to the peace'' of other countries. Iran says it's developing nuclear technology to generate power, while the U.S. and European countries accuse Iran of trying to develop atomic weapons.

China and Russia, veto-wielding members of the Security Council, oppose a Chapter 7 resolution for Iran.

Iran's Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency said he didn't have any information about an Agence France-Presse report that inspectors found traces of highly enriched uranium in his country.

Uranium Particles

``I haven't been informed of any such findings,'' Aliasghar Soltanieh said in a telephone interview.

Particles of weapons-grade uranium came from sample swipes that International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors took at the Lavizan-Shian site in Tehran, where a physics research center was dismantled and topsoil removed in 2004 after suspicions were raised about activities there, AFP said.

The IAEA reported to the Security Council on April 28 that inspectors took environmental samples at suspected nuclear sites in their most recent visit to Iran. The samples were to undergo testing for uranium particles at IAEA laboratories. IAEA spokespeople declined to comment.

The Iranians won't ``put everything on the table'' until the U.S. joins the European-led negotiations, Annan said. Negotiations should be around a ``comprehensive package'' including economic and regional security concerns, he said.

`Engaged in Dialogue'

Annan's call for direct talks between Iran and the U.S. followed those of Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the IAEA. ``Once we get to security issues, the U.S. should be engaged in the dialogue,'' ElBaradei said March 8.

The Security Council's five permanent members plus Germany will meet in London May 19 to consider new incentives for Iran to renounce its atomic program, AFP reported, citing unidentified diplomats. The permanent five are the U.S., U.K., France, Russia and China.

The U.S. and Iran broke off diplomatic relations in 1979 after Islamic revolutionaries overthrew the government of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and kept 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.

I can't answer for the president, because I cannot read his mind.  I don't know what he would do if these two came to him.

BTW, Billy Graham's grandson (Franklin Graham's son) is serving in Iraq right now, and the ministry as a whole is doing a program called "Operation Bless Our Troops"

...and to answer your second question (which I think I did in the first post, but anyway) for personal reasons I'm not going to Iraq to rebuild.

What do you personally do to help in your community? - Volunteer in school, church.

What do faith do you have? - Christian

Do you have a mortage and what is the status? Been able to make payments on time, behind, lost your home? Yes, have been behind in the past, but am caught up now.

Do you have health insurance? If not, why? We don't but our children do, thanks to Child Health Plus. We just cannot afford it. We are small business owners. I am probably going back to teaching so I can get insurance for us.

Do you have young children?

Were you for the bailout? Heck no.

Do you have money invested in stocks? Have you/are you going to cash it in? 401K in Mutual funds, letting it ride for now.

Think we should bring our troops back? Heck yeah.

Now, who do you think you will vote for? Obama/Biden
My answers
What do you personally do to help in your community?

-I work with the youth group at our church and as a church we do community outreach such as having dinners for families, community cleanup day, etc. Our church is in one of the poorest parts of town and the kids there are socially and financially disadvantaged, which I think is why my heart goes out to them so much, I grew up the same way. Other than that I sit at my computer all day and work and stay out of the community like a hermit! :)

What do faith do you have?

-I believe Jesus is the only way to Heaven and he died for our sins and rose again. I believe that no amount of good works can get you in.

Do you have a mortage and what is the status? Been able to make payments on time, behind, lost your home?

-Yes, we have a fixed rate mortgage. So far we can make payments fine, although we have had to sacrifice things in order to make those payments before such as new tires, cable tv, etc., but for the most part we do okay now by being "frugal" lol.

Do you have health insurance? If not, why?

-No. We can't afford it. Neither of us is offered insurance through our company (well until recently, my company is considering offering it.) Our last estimated cost would be $350 a month for decent coverage.

Do you have young children?
- nope, we are waiting until we have a decent savings and health insurance.

Were you for the bailout?
- nope. I think they could have been a lot smarter about that. It really makes me sick that they were having spa treatments the other day. I sure wish I could go to a friggin spa on bailout money!

Do you have money invested in stocks? Have you/are you going to cash it in?
-nope. I had thought about it awhile back but now I'm glad we didn't!

Think we should bring our troops back?
- I would like for them to come back, but I think we need to be smart about it. If we pull out tomorrow we need to look at the repercussions of doing so. But I think it's time to start to tie up our loose ends and come home, focus on things here for awhile.

Now, who do you think you will vote for?
-If I knew that writing in someone would make a difference, but because it won't, I'll be voting for Mccain, because I don't agree with Obama. I don't necessarily think things will be better with Mccain, but Obama and I disagree on issues, therefore I won't vote for him. Simple as that.
my answers

What do you personally do to help in your community?  Lions Club, PTO, close-knit community so we personally help each other when something bad happens.

What do faith do you have? Christian

Do you have a mortage and what is the status?  Been able to make payments on time, behind, lost your home?  Building a new house, so just starting a mortgage.  Never had a problem with our mortgage before, but now who knows.  We were really hoping to lock into a good rate when our house was finished, but that may not happen now.

Do you have health insurance?  If not, why?  Yes, my husband works for the commonwealth and we are very fortunate to have excellent health insurance now.  However, prior to that job, we always carried health insurance, either an individual policy on our own or a group employee policy.  I even worked part-time in-office just to get benefits at one time.

Do you have young children?  Yes -- 11, 8, and 6.

Were you for the bailout? Absolutely not.  The suits should have paid it.

Do you have money invested in stocks?  Have you/are you going to cash it in?  We have some invested in stock -- McDonald's actually, it's not much so we're better off to ride it out.  I assume my husband's 401K with the state is also invested, but don't know much about that.  I'm more concerned about the 30K I just put in a money market with bank.

Think we should bring our troops back?  Absolutely.

Now, who do you think you will vote for? Obama/Biden -- McCain hasn't proven to me that he will run things differently than Bush.

my answers

What do you personally do to help in your community?   No clubs or organizations.  I work too many hours.  I put my extra time and energy into raising decent human beings.

What do faith do you have?  Christian - pentecostal to be more specific.  I understand Sarah Palin and her faith.

Do you have a mortage and what is the status?  Been able to make payments on time, behind, lost your home?  Yes.  We are current.  It's tough though.

Do you have health insurance?  If not, why?  Yes.  Husband works for hospital.  It is very expensive.  Any catastrophe would still do us in financially though, at 80/20.

Do you have young children?  Kids are 12-1/2, 15 and 17.

Were you for the bailout?  No.

Do you have money invested in stocks?  Have you/are you going to cash it in?  We have never had extra money to invest in the entire 20+ years of our marriage.  We have never had financial help from anybody, even our parents, and no one taught us as children the importance of saving.

Think we should bring our troops back?  Eventually.  I think they are a force for good in the region and they are doing important work.  War is sometimes necessary.

Now, who do you think you will vote for?  McCain/Palin.  If Obama is elected, I'll get to keep even less of my money and I don't have enough as it is.  Also, I could never and will never vote for a party that does not protect the rights of the unborn.

Volunteer with a pro life group who provide help and support system to women/girls referred to us who have chosen life vs abortion. We have a network of support who also help after the babies are born with child care so the mothers can work and get established on their own. We help with job placement and finding work. It is very rewarding work. More often than not, those mothers become our next volunteers. When we have our get-togethers, to see those children laughing and playing...happy and healthy...makes it all so worth it. If we can help just one...all worth it.

What do faith do you have?
Christian.

Do you have a mortage and what is the status? Been able to make payments on time, behind, lost your home?

Have a mortgage, payments not behind. Have not lost a home.

Do you have health insurance? If not, why?

Yes. With employer.

Do you have young children?

No.

Were you for the bailout?

I believe the economy needed help of some kind. I am not convinced what was passed was the way to go.

Do you have money invested in stocks? Have you/are you going to cash it in?

No money in stocks. After the market problem after 9-11, put in CDs.

Think we should bring our troops back?

From Iraq...as soon as the commanders on the ground believe it is the right time. Whether or not we should have ever have gone doesn't matter, we are there now. I don't want to see what happened in Viet Nam after a precipitous withdrawal happen in Iraq. Millions of innocent Vietnamese were slaughtered. We need to finish there. But leaving Iraq will not solve the "war" problem. Both candidates say we have to stay in Afghanistan, both calling for more troops in Afghanistan. I think Obama said 3 brigades to start. So there is going to be a war..just a matter of where.

Now, who do you think you will vote for?

I know I am voting for John McCain. Too many fundamental differences between Obama's vision for the country and mine. Also too many fundamental moral differences.

5. No - I refuse to bring kids in this world the way it is. Also, it seems I take care of all the kids of women who do not believe in abortion yet they are the first ones to turn their heads or complain when they are taxed to death to take care of these kids who will not doubt grow up unwanted, abused, etc.

6. No but something had to be done.

8. Yes.

9. Not voting this year.

Do you have a mortage and what is the status? Been able to make payments on time, behind, lost your home?

Have a mortgage, not missed a payment. Thank God we have jobs.

Yes - through my husband's employer.

Do you have young children?

Yes, two.

Were you for the bailout?

Absolutely NOT

Do you have money invested in stocks? Have you/are you going to cash it in?

Mutual funds and some other stocks. Think we will sell the mutual funds.

Think we should bring our troops back?

It would be nice but I'm not over there and can't make a judgment call on that one.

Now, who do you think you will vote for?

I'm not thrilled with McCain but I do think he would do a better job than Obama. As eloquently as he speaks, I don't believe much of what comes out of his mouth.

Who wants to abolish the Federal Reserve? Probably a good idea

Who wants smaller government? I do

No more taxes? Would be nice, but have to have some system in place to run schools, hospitals, keep infrastructure up to date, etc.

No government interference in our lives? Yes!!!

Who is for abolishing the IRS? I most definitely am!

Who believes that government should only be in place to run our military for OUR safety? I do

Who wants government out of our public schools? I do
