I think where you run into problems are that there are people who are christians and also gay.  In that respect, you have heterosexual christians doubting the validity of the gay's faith based on the simple fact that they are gay.  So long as there is freedom of religion in this country, what they believe is just as valid as what other christians believe.  In my view that is no different than catholic vs. baptist.  It's just a different interpretation as to what is acceptable.  So, with that in mind, I would say, yes, they should be allowed to get "married" with no compromise.
