One thing I like about Palin is that...
she is not a McCain "yes" person. They do disagree on some issues. And I myself would not classify an abortion clinic bomber as a domestic terrorist. I would classify them as criminals who should be punished according to state laws. Just like that guy who was shooting abortionists. Not a terrorist, a criminal. Just my opinion. And isn't she (Palin) entitled to hers?
The only thing Palin and Hillary have in common
We are not so stupid to vote for someone just because she is a woman. That is insulting. Palin is a nasty, evil, stupid person. The fact that old saggy man chose her for VP put our country at risk. He even lost the republicans on that one.
Palin believes teaching abstinence only is the thing to do - nm

These people would not give Palin credit for a thing.
nm
Then we would be as well off with Palin as with Obama...
in fact, better. He doesn't have any foreign policy experience either...nor any executive experience...has never run anything in his life. He is a rookie on all levels. She has made executive decisions. She ran a state with a big state budget. She made executive decisions every day. Obama has made zero. She is already ahead of him. So...what was your point again?
Palin won't be debating Obama....
vice-president.
I think Palin is being compared to Obama ... sm
More than Biden because McCain is 72 years old (and looking older and more confused and befuddled each day, IMO) and to be realistic, he could very well die not long after being elected, which would immediately make Palin our president. That would be a disaster.

Not even a month ago, few people outside of Alaska had even heard of her. The country is still in the process of getting to know her which isn't happening very quickly because she's not doing any hardhitting interviews - unheard of for a politician at that level (or at least unheard of for a politician who doesn't have anything to hide...)

Come on, she's a politician, she's tough. I'm certain she's up to the interviews, but I find it suspicious that the McCain campaign isn't letting her do those interviews. They are controlling that situation, for what? They don't want her to make a mistake and look bad? They all do that!

I think a lot of people were initially attracted to her with the excitement of a fresh new face, 1st woman VP the Repubs ever nominated, and she's pretty, perky, has a beautiful family, etc. It is exciting. But as more is learned about her past and her idealogy, people I know are going "Oh wait a second, she did what, wants to do what, believes WHAT?! Oh, I don't think so!" I think that's why her poll numbers went up so fast, and have now gone back down so fast. (Actually, I think that's why she isn't doing the interviews, they wanted to keep the excitement and novelty going as long as possible.)

Me personally, I don't hate her. Hate is strong word. I just don't want her anywhere near the White House, esp. as our president.

My biggest problem with her is her extreme religious views. I will freely admit that I am very biased towards people with extreme fundamental religious beliefs. I do not understand or relate to their thinking. I am much more comfortable with people who are "brainy" and scientific, who look at facts and evidence in making their decisions, and I am extremely uncomfortable with anyone who makes decisions based on magical thinking, because they think it's "God's will" or something of that nature. There is just no reasoning with someone like that. We've already had a pres. like that (Bush) and it's been a nightmare.

IMO, people with extreme fringe religious beliefs belong on the fringe, not ruling the free world in the highest office of our land.

Palin is just as qualified as Obama anyway.
nm
I'd rather seen Palin as President than Obama - sm
At least she has more experience than he does running anything. The only thing he ran is dealing out money he recieved from Ayers to radical schools (and this was NOT for history, english or math programs).
Anyone can look up info on Obama as I did yesterday on Palin.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama#State_legislator.2C_1997.E2.80.932004

Everybody keeps talking about little experience. Well they both do not have the experience to be President and neither does McCain. I do not think any candidate is REALLY READY to take on that position. They all make PROMISES and do things just to get our votes and then they do what they want anyway once they get into office, any office. I am a Democratic and just have no idea who to vote for. I hate nasty politics. Does this accomplish anything?? NO
Right!!! People are so nasty to Palin, yet Obama

Obama and the Palin Effect (by Deepak Chopra) sm

Obama and the Palin Effect

Deepak Chopra - September 04, 2008

Sometimes politics has the uncanny effect of mirroring the national psyche even when nobody intended to do that. This is perfectly illustrated by the rousing effect that Gov. Sarah Palin had on the Republican convention in Minneapolis this week. On the surface, she outdoes former Vice President Dan Quayle as an unlikely choice, given her negligent parochial expertise in the complex affairs of governing. Her state of Alaska has less than 700,000 residents, which reduces the job of governor to the scale of running one-tenth of New York City. By comparison, Rudy Giuliani is a towering international figure. Palin's pluck has been admired, and her forthrightness, but her real appeal goes deeper.

She is the reverse of Barack Obama, in essence his shadow, deriding his idealism and exhorting people to obey their worst impulses . In psychological terms the shadow is that part of the psyche that hides out of sight, countering our aspirations, virtue, and vision with qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence, selfishness, and suspicion of "the other." For millions of Americans, Obama triggers those feelings, but they don't want to express them. He is calling for us to reach for our higher selves, and frankly, that stirs up hidden reactions of an unsavory kind. (Just to be perfectly clear, I am not making a verbal play out of the fact that Sen. Obama is black. The shadow is a metaphor widely in use before his arrival on the scene.) I recognize that psychological analysis of politics is usually not welcome by the public, but I believe such a perspective can be helpful here to understand Palin’s message. In her acceptance speech Gov. Palin sent a rousing call to those who want to celebrate their resistance to change and a higher vision.

Look at what she stands for:
--Small town values -- a denial of America's global role, a return to petty, small-minded parochialism.
--Ignorance of world affairs -- a repudiation of the need to repair America's image abroad.
--Family values -- a code for walling out anybody who makes a claim for social justice. Such strangers, being outside the family, don't need to be heeded.
--Rigid stands on guns and abortion -- a scornful repudiation that these issues can be negotiated with those who disagree.
--Patriotism -- the usual fallback in a failed war.
--"Reform" -- an italicized term, since in addition to cleaning out corruption and excessive spending, one also throws out anyone who doesn't fit your ideology.

Palin reinforces the overall message of the reactionary right, which has been in play since 1980, that social justice is liberal-radical, that minorities and immigrants, being different from "us" pure American types, can be ignored, that progressivism takes too much effort and globalism is a foreign threat. The radical right marches under the banners of "I'm all right, Jack," and "Why change? Everything's OK as it is." The irony, of course, is that Gov. Palin is a woman and a reactionary at the same time. She can add mom to apple pie on her resume, while blithely reversing forty years of feminist progress. The irony is superficial; there are millions of women who stand on the side of conservatism, however obviously they are voting against their own good. The Republicans have won multiple national elections by raising shadow issues based on fear, rejection, hostility to change, and narrow-mindedness.

Obama's call for higher ideals in politics can't be seen in a vacuum. The shadow is real; it was bound to respond. Not just conservatives possess a shadow -- we all do. So what comes next is a contest between the two forces of progress and inertia. Will the shadow win again, or has its furtive appeal become exhausted? No one can predict. The best thing about Gov. Palin is that she brought this conflict to light, which makes the upcoming debate honest. It would be a shame to elect another Reagan, whose smiling persona was a stalking horse for the reactionary forces that have brought us to the demoralized state we are in. We deserve to see what we are getting, without disguise.

Who cares what Palin, McCain, Obama, or Biden
all the cheating and lying going on in the O camp and 'ole Biden stabbing his running mate in the back isn't a good sign at all. But, no surprise there. Biden had said very early on he didn't care for Obama and that he would like to be McCain's running mate. Can't twist that one no matter how you try.

I'll always know Biden isn't so easily fooled by Obama either but just looking for a foot in the door of the White House to run in four years.

Obama's response to Palin family baby stories

Here is Obama's response on all the Palin family stories swirling around.  He said he would fire any staffer found to be stoking the fires on these stories.  I agree with him 100%:

Politico's Carrie Budoff Brown reports: At a press avail in Monroe, Mich., Barack Obama on Palin: "Back off these kinds of stories."

"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor and/or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics."

Obama is going to save us.. .it will take time... NO MORE PALIN hahahahaha no more RABIDS nm

The only thing Obama did was
give an order.  I commend him for letting the Navy Seals do what they did but the true heroes are the Navy Seals.
The only thing I see out of Obama

is nothing but lie after lie.  I've listed on this forum many times the lies that Obama has told.  He also just told another recently with these investigations into harsh interrogations.  He said he wouldn't go after people and now he has totally flip flopped on the subject which I think is sad.  He says he wants to move forward but you can't move forward by constantly dragging up the past.  I'm very saddened that our current administration is going to go after people who kept us safe and also prevented a follow-up attack.  How many people in LA would have been killed if they had not done this?  They kept us safe and now we are attacking them.....that's nice.

Only God truly knows Obama's heart and what he stands for but I cannot handle the blatant lies coming out of that man's mouth.  I know politicians lie to get elected and all that jazz but he has just lied about so much and yet the biased news media and his kool-aid drinking followers look right past it and refuse to see what is right in front of them.

McCain has been saying the same thing Obama has been saying...
politics as usual in Washington needs to stop...Obama chose a 30-year plus washington insider and McCain could not havechosen someone much further from washington politics. He has bucked his party when he felt they were not representing their members as they should and so has she. She cleaned up a good ol'boy nest of corruption in Alaska, where, I might add, she enjoys an 80% favorability rating, and that is unheard of. I don't think 80% of Alaskans are Republican. That means to me she is a great governor and certainly knows what she is doing.

She is young..like Obama. She represents change from Washington poltiics...like Obama. She comes from meager beginnings...like Obama. She served in City council (Obama served as community organizer). She served as mayor. She has served as governor. She has a beautiful family. So does OBama.

What means the most to me is one part of her speech no one really made a big deal about, but it spoke volumes to me. She said you should serve with a servant's heart. She has demonstrated she will buck her party to clean it up, and if it comes to party or her constituents, her constituents trump the party. That means a LOT to me. That means she cares about the little people and it is not just words, it is actions. McCain has done the same. I have admired her greatly for a long time, and i think she is exactly what America needs in washington.
The thing about Obama wiggling, as you so....sm
eloquently put here....I have noticed also.

Others (especially his supporters), tend to say that he "thinks before he speaks."

Well...my take on that is....

Yes, he thinks before he speaks. He thinks far too much. Do you ever wonder why? I watched him during the campaign, and as I watch him now, he is the same way.

He thinks so hard before he speaks, whenever he doesn't have a speech prepared for him that is.....because he's trying to find the right thing to say to the people he's talking to, and you can see the wheels churning and spinning, as he tries not to say what he "really" is thinking. Kind of like not offending a certain group of people, and trying to say the political correct thing. You know he's thinking something different, and it comes out all stilted and somehow off.

That's why I see him as "lying" most of the time, so he says "the right thing" at the moment....if you know what I mean.

My DH and I were talking about it the other day. Do you ever notice how he talks about "socialism" and his socialist programs all the time, but uses other words to describe them...but you hear the pauses, and the whirs and clicks going on as he's thinking, to be sure to say it the right way.

Yeah, he thinks before he speaks....otherwise, he knows his words will come back to haunt him...which they will, of course.

Nah, you are misinformed. Obama is doing the right thing for all of us. nm
nm
Poor thing....... wonder where Obama's little tax
SS
Obama is saying the same thing and he has no grand plan...
either than he has shared. He said it in the O'Reilly interview. O'Reilly asked him if he would invade Pakistan to get him and he would not say yay or nay.

So, following your logic...thumbs down on you, O?
Same thing happenignat Obama's rallies.
why isn't our biased media showing it? There were independents there with records standing next to some that were spewing vulgar/hate language and they said Obama could easily hear them, but he never said a word. A news mic was even close by but he said they shut it off when all the nasty threats started and asked another to turn their mic on, whereever they were. So, hmmmm, sounds funny to me.
The only good thing about Obama being elected
would be that in four years, we can vote him back out. I'm with you, sm, less government, less government spending.
But focus on the real thing here...how your guy Obama...
answered the question. Socialism 101. No one forced him to do it. He could have walked away...he has dodged questions very artfully in the past. But he chose to answer this one.

And a state had a private citizen investigated because of a question he asked a presidential candidate. That does not alarm you???? The Patriot Act alarms liberals but this DOES NOT???
That is soooo telling.
and you agree with ever single thing Obama says
Knock yourself out--but I prefer to think for myself. I only pick the candidate I think is best--not perfect
One more thing about abortion for Obama supporters (sm)

While I can see the controversy about when life begins when we are talking about the very early stages of development, I have this question for anyone who has ever had a child....or been one.  Generally when a mother is about 20 weeks pregnant, give or take a couple of weeks, she starts to feel the baby moving around inside her body. The baby moves more and more as the weeks go by.  Toward 30 weeks or so, you can actually feel the baby changing positions to get more comfortable, moving around.  So you are saying that baby I felt moving in my body wasn't alive yet?

What is the one thing you want an Obama presidency to accomplish?

Mine is curbing illegal immigration.

Good thing Obama talked to them
all nice and friendly like.  So much for kissing their back sides Mr. President.  Maybe he should send them an iPod.
I saw the same thing with Obama, comparison to Hitler
So playing that ole race card again does no good.
It's a good thing Obama promised

not to sign any bills with pork in it....oh wait.....he lied about that and signed it anyway, didn't he?

Obama was SUPPOSED to do his own thing? Remember?!
--
Yeah...good thing she isn't debating Obama...
nm
The great thing about Obama talkin' so purdy...
It's so easy to catch him in a lie. He's so clear and straightforward, there's no way he can deny what he said. I think it's great when the news says what he does on any given day and then plays back his campaign speeches and they are completely opposite. It's great, keep it up. America can fall out of love with Obama as quickly as they fell in love with him.
A socialist country doesn't seem like such a bad thing?!? Then vote for Batista Obama.
xx
Sarah Palin fans are as whack as Palin.
Even John McCain's top adviser referred to Sarah Palin as a whack job.
Obama's education versus Palin's education
Barack Obama attended Occidental College, but received his undergraduate degree in political science from Columbia University, an Ivy League member currently ranked 9th in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Obama also graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Harvard Law School, where he also served as President of the Harvard Law Review.

Palin spent her first college semester at Hawaii Pacific College, transferring in 1983 to North Idaho College and then to the University of Idaho. She attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska for one term, returning to the University of Idaho to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism, graduating in 1987.
Obama bashing versus Palin bashing... sm
Obama will be in the forefront for the next 4 years, assuming the electoral college pans out the way the popular vote did and providing his BC holds up in court.

Palin, on the other hand, has gone back to the frozen tundra. Whether she resurfaces in 2012 remains to be seen, but can't we just wait until then to start in on her?
Vote McCain and Palin! -oh and why does Palin
nm
Palin over Biden any day. Make fun of Palin all you
nm
But valuing over the price of a dollar is a right thing wing thing, so you are on the wrong board. n

Sarah Palin makes Sarah Palin look stupid!
The Democrats did not make Sarah Palin look stupid. Sarah Palin does a fine job of looking stupid without help from anyone. All she has to do is open her mouth!
I never said it's a bad thing, it is a good thing....nm
nm
Palin might not have taken it anywhere
but it is not her job to seek taking books off shelves, period.  And you don't know if this is "political crap" or not because the media has not been permitted to ask her any questions.  Once voters get these answers, then they will have the necessary information with which to make a decision as to whether or not this is who we/they want in office.  I, for one, am not going to skew her with a pitchfork or defend her as I have no information with which to do so, either way.  I need answers to these questions that have been floating out there. Questions and answers are very important in our form of government called democracy which is for the people, of the people and by the people.  Freedom comes with a gigantic amount of responsibility, is not to be taken lightly, and is very fragile.
and Palin

accused Hillary of whining when she protested.  Talk about unity among women.

What Palin said is exactly right....
we haven't fought Iraqis since Baghdad fell. We have been fighting the insurgency "Al Qaeda In Iraq" since then. And if I am not mistaken, AL Qaeda was responsible for 9-11.

It appears there are others than Sarah Palin who are "clueless."

Sarah Palin is not running for President. Obama is. ANd he has been running for 18 months. If he had done an interview 3 weeks into it, he would have done no better than she did, and probably worse.

lol.
Why would Palin do this? sm

She banned reporters from her 1st meeting with world leaders.  Only allowed access to photographers and a television crew.  I'm just curious as to if anybody read as to why.

Now if only Palin would say....
for the love of Pete.....LOL!  I say that all the time and get teased horribly for it.
Palin

Palin has many shady contacts also:

She has backed the Alaska Independence Party.  Its platform calls for the defense of "states rights," to "seek the complete repatriation of the public lands, held by the federal government, to the state and people of Alaska in conformance with Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17, of the federal constitution." Basically, the AIP wants a vote on secession. The AIP says that Gov. Sarah Palin used to be a member of the party. Earlier this year, Palin recorded a welcoming address to the AIP's convention.

Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.

And while McCain's motto -- as seen in a new TV ad -- is "Country First," the AIP's motto is the exact opposite -- "Alaska First -- Alaska Always."

In an interview of extremists Mark Chryson and Steve Stoll helped launch Palin’s political career in Alaska, and in return had influence over policy. “Her door was open,” says Chryson — and still is.

So, this is group is just one of her past supporters.  They helped her get where she is today.  And dont even get me started on McCain.

Palin
Just dont try to marry into her family and then divorce because then she will come after you with all her power that the VP will give her.  Talk about abuse of power!  They they flat out refuse to testify?  I didnt know anyone had that right.
Palin
Because SHE wanted to be there.
