NEW YORK (CNN) -- What a joke. Your Congress has voted to spend almost $790 billion of your money on a stimulus package that not a single member of either chamber has read.
The 1,073-page document wasn't posted on the government's Web site until after 10 p.m. the day before the vote to pass it was taken. I don't care if you're Evelyn Wood, you can't read almost 1,100 pages of the lawyer talk that makes up all legislation in eight or 10 hours.
The criminal part of this boondoggle is divided into two parts. The first is the Democrats promised to post the bill a full 48 hours before the vote was taken to allow members of the public to see what they were getting for their money. Both parties voted unanimously to do this ... and they lied.
It didn't happen. Why am I not surprised? Congress lying to the American people has become part of their job description. They can't be trusted on anything anymore.
I'm sure part of the reason there was no time for the public to read the bill was the 11th-hour internecine warfare between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
When Reid first announced the compromise had been reached, Nancy Pelosi was nowhere to be seen. And it would take an act of God for this egotistical, arrogant woman to miss a photo op where she could take credit for anything. But she wasn't there.
She summoned Reid to her office, where unnamed sources said she blew her top over some provision for schools that she wasn't happy with. Pelosi's snit delayed everything.

It's really too bad President Obama couldn't figure out a way to jettison these two who are poster children for everything that is wrong in Washington. The Associated Press called the birth of the stimulus bill "sausage making" in the best tradition of Washington politics as usual.
The second part of the crime is the contents of the bill itself. Far from being only about jobs, infrastructure and tax cuts as promised, the stimulus bill stimulates a bunch of other stuff as well. Eight billion dollars for high-speed rail lines, including a proposed line between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. This little bit of second story work wasn't even in the House version of the bill.
It started in the Senate as a $2 billion project, and came out of the conference committee costing a whopping $8 billion. Gee, now who would that benefit? Oh yeah, the Senate majority leader is from Nevada.
Filipino veterans, most of whom don't live in the U.S., will get $200 million in compensation for World War II injuries. And: $2 billion in grants and loans for battery companies, $100 million for small shipyards and a rollback of the alternative minimum tax at a cost of some $70 billion.
The AMT provision is much-needed legislation, but it doesn't belong in the stimulus bill. It forced other things out so Congress could keep to its self-imposed $800 billion cap.
And when it comes to the tax cuts contained in the stimulus bill, experts have determined they will amount to about $13 per week after taxes for the average American. I'm not sure how much stimulation $13 a week buys. It depends on the neighborhood.
The biggest problem of all is the stimulus bill may not be nearly enough. And if the president has to come back asking for more, the next time might not be so easy.
So far, we have an anemic stimulus bill and some sort of vague proposal from the secretary of the Treasury to deal with the banking crisis -- a proposal that landed with a thud last week -- as the two first steps toward solving a financial crisis that is threatening to take down the country.
Obama better step up his game, or it's going to be a short four years in office.

No one in the world thinks tax cuts can get the economy moving (although plenty of pundits get paid to say they do). Removing all taxes on everyone would *still* be too small. Tax cuts are a pointless, ineffective gesture. (And of course, he doesn't say what the little bullet point says he says!)

It's too early to say they blew it, but dear god, it looks like they blew it. The one time we really require the congress to blow some massive money...and they get all stingy. Where was all this fiscal responsibility back during the Bush era?

He does an opinion show - meaning HIS opinion. As such, he's entitled to stick pins in little Obama dolls for all I care.
I can hear Chris Wallace laughing at you folks from here because it's pretty obvious whoever wrote that knows zip about Beck, or Wallace for that matter. In fact, I can't think what Wallace has to do with Beck anyway. Everyone of INTELLIGENCE who watches Beck and Wallace is perfectly aware that one does one type of show and the other does another.
But what do you expect from one of George Soros' puppet sites like Media Matters and Move Bowels.org?

My overall concern is that it is the US
that are detaining these children, and there doesn't seem to be much transparency about what is really going on. I would like full disclosure. It seems that quite a few agencies that have inquired about it have been shunned, at least in the beginning. And in the beginning, a lot of these children were being detained in adult jails/camps and interrogated as adults. That I believe is a war crime and someone should be held accountable.
I would feel much more comfortable and positive about the overall situation if it were being handled soley by the Iraqi people. If not, it will look like coercion. I'm not saying we shouldn't help, but that perhaps it should be more of a long-arm approach (for the lack of a better way to say it). The average Iraqi citizen does not teach their children to kill. It is the extreme Islamists who are preying upon them. It is a very delicate situation that could very well backfire regardless that our intentions are good ones.

In a creepy way, I get this slimey feeling that the ACORN controversy is a set-up for exactly that. To make matters worse, I think Ohio will not be alone this year and that every state will face its challenges in this regard. Thing is, it's a little late in the game to be "fixing" that problem now. The progressives have been talking about this problem ever since the last election, but until now, those concerns have been falling on deaf ears.

of course it does not concern them unless one of their own family are blown up, shot, kidnapped or whatever happens the next time. And don't think there won't be a next time since our country is showing such weakness now. When it happens to one of their own they will be screaming to high heaven and forget that they backed this closing.

So, I have a question/concern.
Why are the presidential candidates not talking more about pulling us away from oil? or more strategies to get us off oil? I may be wrong, so please correct me, but I have not heard anything specific about this issue. John Kerry is the only one I have heard, but not sure how effectual he is.
Last night on Hardball, the money man said to expect that a gallon of gas to go as high as $20 a gallon in the next 10 to 20 years. Insane. What is that going to do to the world economy? I see a global recession coming, and at the rate the US is dragging their feet, we are going to be the hit very, very hard because we still rely too much on oil for just about everything, from cars to home heating to food.
What are we to do?

I don't know if concern is the word,
I would like any prospective President to have some first hand knowledge of the rest of the world AND have some kind of relationship with other world leaders. I think both of those are hard to achieve if you cocoon yourself in your own country.

Where is all the money coming from being donated to Obama's campaign. They are using fake names. Why? Now, most common sense folks will know why if we don't want to deceive ourselves. No doubt Muslim organizations, corrupt groups, terrorists related groups.....you name it. See how well that never gets reported on most of your news channels. FOX has tried and is bringing it up again but try to get others, with the exception of Lou Dobbs, who will call a spade a spade....and please don't get racial with me.....you know what I mean.

I don't know whether you are a Republican or Democrat (or neither), but I have found that many Republicans are against this bill. The ironic thing to me is that many Republicans are pro-life. Many care so much about saviing the babies in the womb, but where is the concern for little children who are suffering? I think it's hypocritical for one to say that they care so much about bringing this life into the world and giving it a chance to live, and yet if that same child gets leukemia it's on it's own because God forbid our taxes might get raised or something.
Sometimes you just have to DO THE RIGHT THING. I believe the right thing is health insurance for all American children. What would Jesus do?

It's not hate, is deep concern
I don't hate Obama. I think he's a fine person. Great with giving speeches and beautiful family. Personally I will enjoy hearing his voice give a speech over McCains voice and was really getting sick of hearing "my friends" in every other sentance of a speech McCain gave. So it's not that I or others hate Obama. Unlike the hate we have seen from the other side.
What it is is very deep concerns that everything we have worked for and everything we aspire for and live for and save for and teach our kids is going to change for the worse. I do not think Obama is qualified to be president. I don't and that is my opinion. Evidently other people do feel otherwise and therefore he became president (which I still have doubts that a president is really elected by the people - I think he was already picked a long time ago). But my gut feeling is the same exact feeling I had for Clinton. He promised us so much while he was campaigning and once he got in he screwed the country royally. This is the same feeling.
I hope I am wrong and honestly if I am wrong and if he does do good things I WILL be on this board and admit that I am wrong. But at the same time when I hear and read that he is doing somthing wrong, not fullfilling (sp?) his campaign promises I will also be on this board posting too.
I will admit that I am not always right, but when I feel strongly and when I feel I am right I speak my mind.
My main concern is his redistribution of weath. I'll tell you if my taxes go up so that people like that girl (forget her name) who said it was a historic moment and never in her whole life did she ever think she would not have to work to pay her mortgate and would not have to work to buy gas - if my taxes go up so that way she can pay her rent and gas and bills because I had to put in an extra 10 hours of work to pay the extra taxes for HER!!!!! You can bet your you know what I'm going to be on this board screaming and shouting.
But DH and I were talking and we said maybe it is someone like Obama who will finally be able to do something right and fight for Americans. One never knows. So if he does I will come on and admit I was wrong.

My concern lies more with the lying than the faith...
There are plenty of good people who are Muslim, just as there are plenty of bad people who claim to be Christian. I see it in my church. You cannot judge an entire religion on the actions of the few, but I am troubled that he would lie about his religion to get elected. However, I am really not sure what religion he is. I dislike his politics, nonetheless. I think we are in a world of hurt either way, to be honest.

95% of American workers WHO PAY TAXES. SHOW me where it says that. But, supposing that is what he means...there are still that 30-40%. Those people pay taxes. Then they get deductions and credits. They get back every dime they paid in and THEN some. They are part of that 95% who "pay taxes." Got it? And about 30-40% of the working public fall into that category. so it is back to square one. Yes, they "pay taxes." Taxes are deducted. Then they file. They get the deductions and the credits and whatever (I am talking about NOW). They get back every dime they paid in. These people technically "pay taxes." If you work one day a year and have deductions, you "pay taxes" and will be included.
I understand that you don't see it. I understand that you are filling in the blanks that he left open. I don't see it the way you see it. He is counting on people seeing it the way you see it. So be it.

I don't like Ann Coulter at all. I think she's obnoxious and arrogant. But then again I don't like the View. I think it's filled with old "has been" housewives and mothers who just sit and gab and give their opinion and put down anyone who doesn't agree with them (i.e. anyone who is not a liberal). I watched the View a couple times and there was nothing interesting or entertaining about it. If they don't like a guest they won't even look at them (Joy Bear (or however you spell her last name) is such a pig! - I can explain and prove that in another post if anyone is interested). Anyway...for anyone to come out and say there is no reason to have someone (no matter who it is) on their show is a bit Nazi-ism. Who are you to say who they should have on and who they shouldn't. Her opinion of Barbara Walters is just that, her opinion. I didn't see the show, but when she said that I'm sure she was jumped on by the others. None of them can stand any person who is not a liberal and they try (and I use the word loosely), try to ridicule them. Luckily it doesn't work. From my understanding of what I've read on this board and elsewhere is that Ann Coulter says things to inflame others. She says things for what they call "shock value". I'm sure Barbara Walters is a big girl (I like Barbara Walters - just can't stand the others on the show), but Barbara is a big girl and can stand up for herself. But as for Ann Coulter saying things, that's just the way she is and they all know that and knew well before hand that she would most likely do that. Her views have no value? According to you and other liberals they may not, but there are others who like her and would like to hear her interviewed. We get the same old show no matter what party is in office. It is a continual ball game with Republocrats versus the Democans. It keeps the American sheeple amused, cheering and fighting for its favorite team while the big boys play games with the global elite, keeping the spectators slaves to their greedy ideas. Been watching this show too long.......
But it would at least show that he
was attempting to keep his promise whether he was overrun by congress or not. If that is the case, then let congress take the fall for it and we can vote those fools out as soon as we can. But for him to just go along with it after he made promises to us. The only reason Obama turned his back and broke his promises to the American people is so that he kept the support of the dems in congress.
For once, I want a president who will stand up to his party and the other party and say....you know what....I promised the American people and they come first because WE work for them. Instead we continue to get liar after liar in office with a government system that is more interested in how much money they can spend with our tax dollars.

The show and Powell
I thought the show was wonderful and illustrated very clearly how bits and pieces of intelligence were selected and manipulated and turned into something they weren't. (They referred to it as a "Chinese menu" that the administration used to pick and choose from.)
I taped this show and watched it a couple times. As far as Powell is concerned, it did show how Powell's relationship with George Tenet began to disintegrate.
It further showed how Tenet was, at Bush's father's urging, kept as CIA director when Dubya took office, and all the events leading to his resignation. He was one of Dubya's sacrifical lambs. I guess Bush thought giving him the Medal of Freedom made up for that.
Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Powell's chief of staff, said that Powell told him, "I wonder how we'll all feel if we put half a million troops into Iraq and march from one corner of the country to the other and find nothing."
Powell said, "I will forever be known as the one who made the case. I have to live with that." (That made me feel really bad for Powell, who I have always trusted and considered to be an honest, ethical man. His association with Bush really dragged him down, and his statement about having to live with that just tells me that he's still an honest, ethical man, the kind of man who had a spectacular military career, actually had the guts to go fight in wars himself, someone who truly IS Presidential material, someone who doesn't belong in an underhanded, lying, foolish administration like Bush's.)
The show also pointed out how if you are someone who works for this president and you discover something not right or in alignment with his "plans," if you tell him, you'd better be prepared to resign or be fired.
This show clearly illustrated how Bush wanted to go to war with Iraq, and all he needed was a reason, even if he had to invent a fictional one.
Again, I thought it was an excellent show, and if you ever have the opportunity to watch it or obtain a transcript of it, I would highly recommend it.
